WHCA dinner shooter had a Rock Island 1911 clone in .38 Super and a Maverick 12 gauge. What does /k/ think of .38 Super as an assassination round? Should the shooter have gone with something more Hinkley sized?

For reference, in the glorious tech worker's paradise of California, 38 Super goes for .75 a round in hollow point and $2.25 a round in ball
>>
*$2.25 a round in hollow point and 75 cents a round in ball.
>>
>>65108360
i still call it .38 mexican
>>
>>65108624
paul harrell was particularly fond of .38 super so it's an honorary aryan cartridge
>>
>>65108360
It's a fine cartridge, but doesn't really do anything that a 9mm +P or 10mm can't.
>>65108624
38 Super is popular in South American countries where military calibers are restricted, hence why Mexicans love it so much. It's basically their 9mm.
>>
>>65108360
>WHCA dinner shooter
I mean, you are making a lot of assumptions here. It's possible he simply had an AD and was not trying to assassinate anyone.
>>
>>65108360
Would love a rimless .38 pooper or a modernized 9mm largo with high pressure. Will just have to cope and get a .38 pooper 2011 tho
>>
>>65108690
>modernized 9mm largo with high pressure
9x25mm Dillon is a thing.
>>
>>65108721
>10mm bottlenecked
Not the same, but it is awesome yes
>>
>>65108690
I was thinking more about 9mm Mauser Export, AKA the other 9x25 or 7.62 tok embiggened

It means it's a false flag operation. They'll try and say the shooter has cartel associations. LOL
>>
>>65108690
>Would love a rimless .38 pooper or a modernized 9mm largo with high pressure.
The closest thing to that is the 9mm Major and/or the .356 TSW. Unfortunately if you chamber your gun with those cartridges, then you better get into handloading.

Rimless 38 Super are avallable, it's called the .38 SC AKA .38 Super Comp, it's literally the 38 Super cartridge with the rim machined down to the case diameter. Runs fine in unmodified 38 Supers. Pressure isn't an issue with the cartridge, just run VV N105 powder with a 124gr Hornady for an easy 1500 fps (this is a load from the Vihtavuori manual, not some bubba's pissing red-hot load)
>>
>>65108360
>.38 Super
Extremely brown coded.
>>

>making assumptions
He also wasn't wearing a mask. Might have been vaxxed. Fauci strikes again
>>
>>65108360
.38 Super is a good performing cartridge which is held back by its semi-rim.

>>65108680
You'd really need to be looking at some +P+ loads of 9mm Luger to eclipse .38 Super

>>65108690
.38 Super Comp exists, but .38 Super should have been rimless from the beginning. Could you imagine something like an M1A1 Thompson or M3A1 Greasegun in a properly rimless .38 Super?
Or more modernly, guns like the 92FS, CZ75, Glock 17, Mini Uzi, MP5k

on my list of guns to eventually get is a guady high polish stainless 38 super 1911, i've always called them a taco special.
i don't think i have many options though in commiefornia

you are literally legally metaphysaically obligated to own at least one opulent and/or gaudy 1911 in 38 mexican
colts not even the only one who does it but theirs just are so blatantly mexican coded
>>
>>65109232
i know man i can feel it in my blood. i think i'm stuck finding one at a gunshow the only one of faggot pistol list that is anywhere near close is a stainless RIA 5"

which, with new lady of guadelupe hidalgo grips would be okay. FUCK.
>>
>>65108360
His plan wasn't to bum rush the event, he was hoping to casually walk in. And it might have worked because Americans are very vulnerable to a nigger in a suit. Judging from how fast secret service grabbed him, he would have been able to mag dump in Trump's general direction
>>
>>65109298
He could have probably gotten closer if he had ditched the shotgun and played it cool.
>>
>>65108759
If it really was a false flag, he would've had a AR from Daniel Defense.
>>
If you're going to get a 1911 in a weird expensive esoteric cartridge like .38 super, why on earth would you cheap out and buy an ria? At least spring for the colt.
>>
>>65109641
Yep. Everyone there would have been very happy to see a beta nigger in a suit
>>
>>65109650
he lived in commiefornia, that is one of the few 38 supers available.

https://www.oag.ca.gov/firearms/certified-handguns/search

there are only 4 results for 38 super.
>>
>>65109642
>If it really was a false flag, he would've had a AR from Daniel Defense.
Do you think companies with insider connections could sponsor the false-flag operations like sports events?

>>65108360
>Should the shooter have gone with something more Hinkley sized?
Given that he didn't make it into the same room as the target, he'd have needed a suitcase full of c4 to have a serious chance of taking him out.
>>
>>65110030
>into the same room as the target
he didn't even make it to the same floor, he'd need a ryder truck special
>>
>>65110088
>he didn't even make it to the same floor, he'd need a ryder truck special
It was close enough for people inside the room to hear the scuffle wasn't it?
I assumed he was at least outside but on a different floor?
I didn't think shots were actually fired?
>>
>>65110103
>It was close enough for people inside the room to hear the scuffle wasn't it?
>I assumed he was at least outside but on a different floor?
he was stopped in the lobby security checkpoint - he tried to blitz run past the metal detectors and security, one floor down is actual room is what i read.
>I didn't think shots were actually fired?
i read he shot one SS officer in the chest but their vest caught it, later read the SS officer was hit by friendly fire. that hasn't been confirmed.

what a hilarious way to throw away your life for reddit updoots.

>what a hilarious way to throw away your life for reddit updoots.
I don't think you can attribute assassination attempts on Trump to any particular part of the political spectrum.
There's been enough attempts from all sorts of angles now, seems like it's a bipartisan issue.
Extremist no doubt but only the centrists are holding back on this.
>>
>>65110183
>attribute assassination attempts on Trump to any particular part of the political spectrum.
which one came from the right? there's been the redditor in PA, the english guy that tried to grab gun at a rally, the hawaian that was obsessed with ukraine, and now a registered dem that donated to kamala from california. that's all reddit spectrum.
>>
>>65109165
same, i'd love to get a nickel plated one with virgin mary grips

If a handgun is C&R it is roster exempt. Easiest way to meet C&R status is to be 50+ years old. That means 1976 or older, which for a Colt Government Model in 38 isn't too difficult to find. Confirm the age by Colt's website and it's transferable into California.

I worked at a dealer in CA and we had people import C&R pistols all the time. Big wave of them every January and February for our collector customers.

Mind you an actual Colt in 38 Super that's been around for 50+ years is going to be eyewateringly expensive, but the heart wants what it wants.
>>
>>65110688
caguns.net has 5 38 supers for sale in the classified section but like you said they are all 4 to 7k and special editions from colt.
>>
I swear if I move to California, then I'll buy $10k worth of off roster pistols just to make sure I don't sit around wishing I had something notionally unavailable.
>>
>>65111596
>if I move to California,
Why would you do that to yourself, it's miserable here. Worse if you wait long enough California will move to you.
>>
>>65111709
I live in MN, which already kind of shitty, and the rest of my family lives in SoCal. Really the only thing holding me back is how I don't want to give up all my NFA stuff.
>>
>>65111822
yeah i wouldn't give up the nfa goodies. and you need to be peak opulent to enjoy socal so maybe you've got that going for you.
the gap between depressingly broke and so wealthy you dont know what to do with yourself is getting more and more ridiculous here. i've got older rich friends that fly around the state buying whatever silly handgun they want. a good friend of mine, i'm not joking, flew out to livermore (twice) to buy an FNX 45 in fde because he wanted another FNX 45 to go with the one he already had... so he could have one at his regular bay area house and one at his vacation house.
I mean, i get it but sheeeeeeeeeeeeesh

It's a shame what happened to Minnesota. I had family up there and once when I was visiting my grandmother I turned on the news and some family of Somalians or whatever had been gifted a house by a twin cities church and they were complaining that it wasn't enough. I was so disgusted that I changed the channel and it was another news story about immigrants who got a free house complaining that it wasn't enough.

Could I, as a non-Mexican national, walk into a gun store in Mexico City and buy this? Would it take bribary money? I would like to do that.

C&R status can include a wide variety of commemorative models listed by name on a list published by the ATF. Colt has an absolute fuckload of Government Models and SAAs on this list but it was last updated on 2018. It can be seen here:
https://www.atf.gov/media/19851/download

If a commemorative model is on that list you don't have to pay the off roster tax on it, but the 11% excise would still be pretty painful. You don't have to pay excise tax on a private party transfer.

Phoenix is pretty nice, I have family there too and the heat is dry instead of Texas' swampass heat. If I didn't have so much stuff tying me to shitass central Texas I'd probably be living there instead.

I went to my local pawn and bought a RIA 1911A1 for 280 out the door after background and taxes, plan on throwing everything but the frame and slide and use them to learn how to build one from the ground up before buying a nice frame and risk fucking it up

>6 rounds of pump shotgun
>7 rounds of jammomatic boomer pistol
what was the plan here?
>>
>>65112715
7+1 on the Maverick 88 and 9+1 on the 1911 (38 Super has more capacity). Apparently the plan was to walk up to the front entrance and zerg rush security once they tried to check him.

Like yeah we're totally going to let some guy walk right into a room with the president, tons of executive branch staff and journalists with a shotgun. No need to check people or have metal detectors or anything. I don't know what this idiot was smoking.

California here
Because of the retarded handgun roster there are very few 9mm 1911 pistols available and they are expensive
Lowest - Springfield Loaded 900
Highest - Kimber Rapide Dawn 2,200
That is also before the double tax and DROS are added on.

Cheapest way to get a 9mm 1911 is to buy a RIA .38 for 500 (or less), a 9mm barrel from RIA for 80 and some 9mm mags
Barrel should drop right in and work, if not RIA claims they will tune it for free but you have to pay shipping
I never had to do that though because mine worked right from the start, so did the conversion for two people that I told about it.
>>
>>65111885

The only gun stores in Mexico are run by SEDENA and located on army bases. No, literally. You need a permit just to get past the gate guards. It's like trying to get on post in the States.
>>
>>65112730

>I don't know what this idiot was smoking.
>he was from Torrance

Probably a lot of weird shit.

>>65113076

That's now harder because lol SB-704. Barrels have to be shipped to an FFL now for a background check, just like ammo. Fuck Newsom and his butt buddy Bonta.
>>
>>65113093
Did mine way before the law, but yeah, it's now harder to get stuff.
Fortunately I have a LGS that will accept online orders and they don't charge me
So when I find someone willing to ship parts to a LGS/FFL I just give them my places info
and because it's going to an FFL no seller has tried to charge me that gay ass $15-$25 adult signature fee
