How to deal with juniors? I don't expect full on derangement from them, but I've found that when I have a few people under my command, all they learn is the salt and not how to do the job. My process was:

The entire reason the VA disability system exists is because real jobs in the 1900s still gave workers comp and benefits to their employees meanwhile the US government gave nothing.
The VA disability system in practice is worker's compensation.
Disability money is not given out freely, you have to have proof and a paper trail of an actual condition or injury that persists after your service.
Thus, "disabled" veterans (in theory) only get what is owed to them rightfully.

Across the board, disabled vets don't want to get paid for conditions. They would rather not have their conditions. But they got hurt in their service so they deserve compensation at the least.

If VA didn't exist, the government would be getting sued millions of dollars for casualties by veterans and their families instead. $3k a month to a handful of servicemen who deserve it actually is a good economical compromise.

The social aspect is irrelevant in current year. All the old places on the “circuit” for free drinks/refills/etc for veterans got rid of those deals. The current socio-political climate is also turning against veterans. The only place I receive any sort of “social benefit” for my benefit status is on the second floor with the active-duty enlisted working bumfuck jobs for CIA/homeland security and only then because I left at a “cool” rank.
