Meh I think the jihadists controlled the city back before 2021, or the Tuaregs were rebelling and then there was some talks that led to them calming down but then the coup happened so they told the gov to fuck off again and took till now to retake the city..... either way this is a return to how it had been rather than a major gain. Now if Gao falls to the Tuaregs/AQ or Menaka falls to ISIS that could be interesting.
I wanna see an up to date map in general this one is from november, the 'detailed map' is dog shit for detail.

Tuaregs vastly outnumber the Russians and local forces attached to them suck ass.

Motorcycle assaults work way better in the desert where you can virtually maneuver anywhere. In Ukraine you got woods, bombed out and mined fields that have turned into sludge along with swampy shitness that makes up a lot of Eastern Ukraines landscape. Tuaregs are also really good at hit and run raids having been doing them for centuries.

Then we just ignored all that and sent our boys to die. During a training exercise. The Apache crashed because of a flight control failure. Also during a training exercise.

>meanwhile IRL Mali begged for help and France accomplished one of the most successful operations of modern military history by successfully saving the capital city from being taken by the terrorist group and liberating a huge portion of the territory.
You know this type of operations two folded, first the chad frog will come and liberate the village and then the low IQ niggers in the village have to hold it against terrorists otherwise the army would spread too thin. Now take into account that the village nigger hate frogs because muuuuh colonialism 100 years ago and other delusional anti white propaganda + russian psyops + extremely poorly equipped Malian army (lmao look at the video, lol even). It's a miracle frogs could accomplish what they've done if you take into account Malians mindset. And then the new Mali government is so ungrateful that it shifts all the fault to the frogs lmao. I don't even understand why people bother saying the Frogs are incompetent. I used to attribute it to Anglos being butthurt back in the day, but the landscape of the internet has changed so much that anyone with a brain knows that the Frogs run military operations in Africa. They know their shit back and forth, a huge number of countries speak some derivation of French to a greater or lesser degree, they have good training, good equipment, they know not to get fooled by the locals, and they aren't afraid of committing warcrimes because proving it is next to impossible and the government (regardless of who is in charge) just accepts that's the cost of doing business. They were put in a bad spot in French Guiana last year with the locals wanting the French out but the French clearly weren't willing to allow Algeria 2.0 to happen yet it's a contentious conflict to get embroiled in due to all the eyes on the area as a consequence of the launch facility. I have to see the locals stopped being retarded, or the French are still trying to placate them without needing to get the knives out.

There's an old vice news thing, back from like 10 years ago of french battling with insurgents alongside the Afircan troops. It was such a clusterfuck but it was a staple on /k/ for ages.
The government troops roll into town in like company strength, get immediately ambushed and freak the fuck out. They burn through all their ammo in like an hour, then call for the French to rescue them.
The french come in and clear the town and kill the insurgents in like 20 minutes and it turns out there were like 6 insurgents or something. A wholly negligible number anyway.
And all through the video the fat commander of the africans is on his radio screamin random contradictory orders.

Believably retarded. Though I honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they are actually happy just because so many have that slave peasant mindset. It's hard to comprehend but I've slowly come to realize a lot of people see kindness or positive virtues as weaknesses or some sort of "oh so you think you're better" and it makes them mad to witness good. According to Suryak (yes, I know he's a lolcow), Tessalit has been taken over by the Tauregs and the Russians are planning on handing over Aguelhok and Anefif. You'd be surprised.

As prosperity in China has grown, a middle-class with middle-class sensibilities has emerged. Animal rights is a growing movement and I've seen police get cancelled because they beat a stray dog to death, that dog-meat festival is on thin ice and represents a kind of last hold-out of that sub-culture. The big exotic meat markets have all shut down or gone behind closed doors where only people in the know can find them.
Third world charity is growing too, though the party keeps a lid on it because it's probably directly contrary to their exploitation plans but the Confucius foundation directs those people to projects that assist geopolitical objectives and provides cover for spies.

There will come a time when China has become too westernised to avoid western problems.

That sounds pretty likely.

Though the Taureg are probably the ones building and operating the drones, it's not that hard and you can train a pilot in a week with a laptop and accessories.
Anybody who can handle a soldering iron can build a drone, so the building can be taught in a few hours and there was probably already a few who knew how.
I'm sure the tourists may have held some workshops for the locals, as a cultural exchange sort of thing.

At certain times in certain years, China has a problem with hoaxes spreading across their social media about african students in China being beaten/raped/robbed by Chinese police/students/teachers or whatever.
The source of these always turns out to be fake stories published in African papers, that get picked up by African students and translated and reposted to their chinese contacts, which then spread across Chinese social media.
The objective of these stories is to sway local elections somewhere in Africa using the anti-Chinese-imperialist vote.

What always amused me about this during my time in China, was that this was all just collateral damage from some election tampering on the other side of the world.
The expat groups I was in on wechat would all blow up with these and there'd be shock and outrage and incredulous reactions and it would take a while before someone, who'd been around long enough to see it before, would speak up and point out how often this has happened before.
Nobody believes the official story that it's fake of course, it takes someone finding the original footage to show that it's taken completely out of context before people will accept that it's disinfo.

They speak a Berber language, it's a pretty ancient language family that was potentially one of the languages in use in the Egyptian kingdoms, a related language is known to be used in the new kingdom (so about 1k-1.5kBCE) but is related to a language spoke in the Tunisia area about 9kBCE as well.

This reminds me of a classic joke. An African is complaining to an American that they can never get anything from America without being lectured whereas China just builds them a road for free. The American replies by saying theres no such thing as a free road. "There you go with your lectures!" Replies the African.

It's probably a seething homotroon vatnik trying his damndest to derail the thread. The sudden explosion of western culture war talk in the thread is a good indicator of vatnik presence, especially in a thread pointing out russian failures.

Apparently the Russians pulled out of Menaka and are currently huddled up in the nearby abandoned UN refugee camp. Knowing that IS-Sahel absolutely hates the Mali government and the Russians, I think that its going to be a Turkey shoot fairly soon unless the Russians can somehow convince IS to allow them to pull out of the Gao/Menaka region entirely

The funny thing about ISIS is that in Africa they are merely the mid-level extremists, JNIM is AQ who are the 'low level' extremists, then you've got ISSP which is ISIS, but then you get over to Nigeria where you've got Boko Haram who ISIS cut ties with because they were too much.
Honestly the situation in the wider Sahel will be interesting to watch in the next month or so. If Mali continues losing ground then I wouldn't be surprised to see Burkina Faso and Niger also lose even more ground against JNIM and ISIS (not that those 2 are working together but they seem to be focusing on different areas). Burkina Faso has already lost about half the rural areas of the country while Niger has it's capitol almost cut off from the borders by a lot of different groups. I don't know anything about how all the groups feel about each other though beyond JNIM and ISIS not liking eachother so idk what happens if the rest of Niger's desert areas fall and ISIS controls all the way to Chad. Chad seems fine i guess but then if they get taken out you've got the RSF in Sudan and the Central African Republic never got over it's civil war.... then you get to the Congo and South Sudan......

Suffice to say but if the situation doesn't stabilize or improve soon then Africa will likely enter a doom spiral instead of the holding pattern it's been in for the last few hundred years.

>losing Iran

They aren’t fucking helping Iran in any meaningful way. And Iran might be better off for it all things considered. They’ve done better at fighting the United States and Israel than Russia would have in the same situation. They’ve actually managed to force the US to essentially sue for terms that are largely in their favor, which would put them in a pretty exclusive club (Vietnam, Afghanistan, Red Cloud’s Lakota, the United Kingdom, Cuba arguably)

>>
>>65114657

If Trump had decided to bomb Russia instead of Iran, the Russians would have likely shit the bed almost immediately and sued for whatever terms the US demanded (ex. withdraw from Ukraine). Iran on the other hand has managed to not only force the US to give up on any notions of regime change (the regime is more entrenched than ever if anything), but gained the right to to extract tribute from any vessel going through the Strait of Hormuz, which is not only great for the Iranian treasury, but a massive blow to US naval preeminence in its own right (not being able to guarantee freedom of the seas in one of the world’s most important waterways).

Tuaregs are not jihadists, they have different end goals and methods but sometime partner to fuck Mali's junta up.
French forces did not fight Tuaregs, the agreement was: have your territory, you'll get no trouble if you don't help jihadists and back then Mali's government wasn't dumb enough to try and fight them while also fight jihadists.
First thing the junta did was to take back Kidal
>>
>>65114443
The tuaregs convinced the jihadists to let Russian leave as a gesture of goodwill to try and negotiate with them a future agreement or something.

It was hard and took a long time to do so as per a Tuareg leader.

They're actually just mentally retarded. The ones who are slightly less retarded know there's no point trying to save the sinking ship so they might as well just loot what they can and not worry about anything else, since there's no point. There is no fixing it.

It's probably a paid shill, but his script is outdated.
Very broadly generalizin, Africa never liked Europe's patronizing attitude that came with the gibs. So they welcomed China as an alternative. But they're already learning that China isn't trustworthy like daddy Europe.

>>65111054
Russia is a weaker patron. The advantages of this are that they can't exercise as much control over you and you can better negotiate with them. The disadvantage is that they can't really protect you which is the whole point of having a patron

Working in a hardware store in Europe I had a lot of double nationality Africans as customers, who purchased machines to send back home to their company or farm.

They complained to me about the Chinese stuff, they basically said that while it was cheap, it broke down quickly and parts were impossible to get. For comparaison some of them bought part for 20 or 30yo Stihl chainsaws, few Chinese companies even survive that long.

>>65116139
The thing is that in a "dog eat dog" type of society if you ever get to power it's easier and smarter to just steal everything you can while you're there, because everyone else expects you to and expect their share.

Creating a democratic system with the rule of law is actually really hard because you need to build up people's trust for decades first.
