Is the Gripen a viable option in 2026? can Sweden even make enough Gripen for all those countries that want to thumb their nose at the USA?
>>
>>65111598
depends
>>
>>65111598
Just buy the fucking rafale if you don't want to deal with us or the eurofighter if you want to be a hipster
>>
>>65111598
No, KF-21 is better
>>
>>65111598
Yeah.
That said, it's made for environments and uses like the ones sweden face and it is on the older side now, so if your needs are not aligned with the mission profile it's built for it won't do much good compared to other jets.
Personally i think other countries should ask the swedes to make a new jet. I have no ulterior motive.

>Gripen for all those countries that want to thumb their nose at the USA?
Gripen uses F414 engine made by GE in USA
>>
Only the C/D were viable since it was cheap for turdies, the E/F nuked all of that and it costs the same as a Block 70/72 F-16

Unless you truly hate America (even though the Gripen has 50% American parts including the engine) there's no point not going for the Viper
>>

Brazil is making Gripens now too in order to fulfill their own orders as well as Columbia's. I'm sure the inevitable Ukrainian Gripen order that both Brazil and Sweden would produce the numbers fast enough to get however many Ukraine needs

I like how SAAB just lies about everything.
>>
>>65111598 LOL I doubt canada will ever get new fighter jets.

>can Sweden even make enough Gripen for all those countries that want to thumb their nose at the USA?
Well, the Gripen would have to win export contracts first.

>Is the Gripen a viable option in 2026?
That implies it ever was lmao. You want western quality without having to adhere to western morals, there's always only been one place to turn, baby. Otherwise you might as well just choke down the Washington ties and get massively superior aircraft to the Gripen.

>Is the Gripen a viable option in 2026?
Not really.
>can Sweden even make enough Gripen for all those countries that want to thumb their nose at the USA?
They don't have to, the only reason anyone buys it is for local production and/or tech transfer.
>>
>>65111598
It's fine, but in 2026, it's not a 40-50 year platform, maybe a 20 year platform. It's probably okay as part of a mixed fleet paired with F35s to bridge the gap until GCAP/FCAS/NGAD.
>>
>>65111598
For Canada?

Yeah, if you insist on being absolute faggots who contribute nothing and extract as much as possible from the US.

No, if you want to be taken seriously.
>>
>>65112636
This, supposedly Brazil is upgrading the Gripen installations so it can quickly increase the production. My guess is Sweden will rely on Brazil to increase the production output
>>
>>65112626
canadian boomers truly hate america
>>
>>65111748
>it is on the older side now
So's the F-16. Sure, it's been continuously updated, but underneath it's the same late-60s design as the earlier blocks.
There are two major hurdles to updating the Gripen: lack of a truly powerful engine option (F404/F414 weren't originally intended for single-engine planes), and lack of funding from Saab. It really needs a 75 kN dry thrust engine, and more money for new electronic toys.
>>
As a fellow canuck. I want to say Grippen faggots are insufferable and honestly I hope we get F35s just to spite the Swedes. Fuck the gay Swedes. Dont you have a grenade attack to attend?
>>
>>65111598
Amerilards will fight you online to defend their MiC and their shareholders.
>>
>>65113748
And Saabniggers will tell you they're all european after fitting another American engine onto their jets
>>
>>65111735
>no stealth
>no A/G capabilities
>not even in LRIP
The KF-21 can't do anything the Gripen can.
