What's the point of a semi auto belt fed 249s? Is it worth 10K?
funthat depends on how much 10k is worth to you
Dremel it out and go wild. Also pretty sure someone's making/already made a FRT for it.
>>65112436It's purely a novelty for wealthy collectors who want a very impressive gun to show off at a range. They are expensive partially because FN overprices everything, belt feed mechanisms are complicated, being semi auto closed bolt adds even more complexity so not all parts interchange with actual M249s and the semi auto examples are manufactured on such a small scale that they need a substantial profit margin for the entire thing to be worthwhile in the first place.>>65112440It's still closed bolt so you don't fully get the same results as a genuine M249, but I reckon you'd get closer to having something worthwhile. Of course this also introduces the possibility of cook-offs from chambered ammunition sitting in an overheated barrel after shooting a belt or two.
I used to shit money and 10k was not that much in my past life.
>>65112436Don't underestimate sustained semiautomatic fire.
>>65112436Cheapest I've see one for was $15k a few years ago. It was brown with a brown acog though.
>>65112436> What's the point of a semi auto belt fed 249s?Because a transferable one last sold for 500k
>>65112460>waah it might cook off a cartridge if you shoot 600 rounds through it and then leave it sitting loaded for an hour! There is no reason other than autism for a civilian to want an open bolt gun. Just clear the gun when you're done shooting multiple belts through it, you don't have to worry about follow up attacks.
>>65112506>There is no reason other than autism for a civilian to want an open bolt gunHoly cope niggerThere's no reason for the government to keep them from civilians
>>65112509>There's no reason for the government to keep them from civiliansThis is true. However, "the gun I want is only available in closed bolt" is not a legitimate reason to not buy that gun.
>>65112436They were just for LARPing until the FRT was ruled legal.
>What's the pointThere is nonetotal waste of time money resources for all involvedEither have the actual real gun, or don't.
>>65112472Sure must be worthwhile hand-loading those belts to shoot each round one at a time.
>>65112676Unknown technology
>>65112789worthwhile (I said)
>>65112436>What's the point of a semi auto belt fed 249s?you want to LARP>Is it worth 10K?Like the saying goes, "the two happiest moments a semi auto belt fed owner has with it is when he buys one and when he sells it"
>>65112436I'd imagine owning any gun you were issued feels like tits
>>65112472Is it any way more worthwhile than a AR with two mags taped together for sustained semiautomatic fire?>>65113378Why so they all feel like bags of sandy milk?
Mostly they are smuggled out of the US and converted to full auto again, because the domestic cost of many of these systems is a fraction of the international market value
>>65112472Truthnuke. I remember watching Syrian war footage back in like 2014 of Hezbollah and they raped ISIS fighters with single PKM shots from their hilltop.
>>65114144Lol.Lmao
>>65112676It really isn't all that more time consuming than loading a single feed mag.In fact compared to a double stack single feed like the Sten or PPSh it's downright fun.
