Thoughts on the Savage Revel 22lr lever gun vs the competitors like Henry Mares leg or browning blr-22
Mares leg 22lr with a full stock (+200$) seems fun

Henry is far better in quality. Buttery smooth action and surprisingly damn accurate. Take the extra time and set aside the money for one.

got one in 22 mag, its nice, henrys nice too never used a browning rifle

>retail of 500 bucks
seems really expensive. might as well save up for a golden boy instead.

Aren't the revels turkshit? I own a henry and I'd either get a henry, made in the USA or a BLR-22 made in japan
also the revels look ugly as shit, not that the henrys aren't also ugly and most of the anti henry bitching is about their centerfires. even that one tripfag who bitches about henrys says he doesn't get the same issues with the .22s

I have one in the Magnum. It's smooth and accurate. However, the thing I do not like is that in order to disassemble you need to take off the receiver cover. The receiver cover is seemingly pot metal and the screws that hold it on are teeny tiny. If you take it apart a lot I have a feeling they'll be stripped.

If you get a Henry check over every inch of it before you actually pay for it. I've heard nothing good about their QC for the last couple years. Personally I had to return one of their youth rifles because the rifling looked like it had been chewed into the barrel by a meth addled beaver; and it slugged at .218. They sent me an entirely new gun. But the triggers on both of them were absolute garbage, even for a youth .22 rifle. Accuracy was inferior to a Cricket (and those are like half the price of the Henry).
Check the fit and finish, check for burrs, check the rifling and the crown, check the action and trigger; etc. Basically check it for everything you'd never think to check on a brand new gun but would take for granted you need to check on something used.

I’ve had 4 of their rifles, all shit (made after Covid). All sights were fucked beyond fixing and one had a canted barrel. Will never buy another.

the henry goldenboy .22lr has a similar issue. but you can clean it with an otis limited action .22 pull through. it's not the regular .22 otis, it's one that specifically fits in smaller actions.
idk if you need to clean the mags more often than normal .22s but it's not like you really need to clean a normal .22 very often

I have an h004 goldenboy .22 and the only thing wrong with it is the wood on the neck (idk where the buttstock meets the metal) is longer on one side, but it doesn't move or rattle so it's a visual thing. the only other issue I've had is I think I had a rust spot in the barrel, but idk if that was just a bore scope making things look worse. this was like 3 years after I bought the rifle. I tried grouping it and the groups were worse than before I noticed the spot, but I was using that CCI blazer 1,500 pack ammo whereas when I zeroed it before it was cci minimags so the group size change might have just been the ammo since nonmatch .22lr is so shitty

oh and I specifically wanted to say the trigger is fucking great. my mossberg 500 has an ass 9lb trigger, but my henry golden boy has a nice as fuck trigger

Also be aware that Henry lever actions tend to come with buck horn irons. If you've never shot buck horn irons : they're garbage. You WILL want to replace them with something, anything that's better than buck horns.
