its just so sexy , what are your thoughts on this?
Would be if the Automags weren't super picky about ammo and fed properly half the time. Looks sexy af tho
>>65113503/thread sadly true facts
>>65113503fpbp.what other guns fall under this curse of too cool to actually work consistently?
>>65113500The Desert Eagle is the only one of the 70’s/80’s “auto magnum” pistol to be commercially successful because it was the only one to feed reliably. That doesn’t change the fact that I would kill for a .44 Wildey.
>>65114078what about the Coonan? or is 357 not magnum enough?
>>65113503>super picky about ammo and fed properlyThis is what I always remember reading about them back in the day
>>65114326Oh no I also love the Coonan, the current production models are apparently quite reliable. The AMT Automag III’s are dope as well but the grip is not especially ergonomic what with having to fit the length of a .30 carbine cartridge. It’s just clear that for all of those models the Desert Eagle did the best partly because of use in media but largely because they work well across multiple cartridges.
>>65114579i had the chance to buy a coonan with original box and papers for 2k a decade ago but passed on it because i was making babies. not really a regret but something i remember. maybe one day i'll find a new one
>>65114704>Gun regretsBelieve me I’ve been there, in 2017 I saw a VEPR 7.62x54 rifle for sale in a Cabela’s gun library for $749. Seriously dumb call not buying it.
>>65114704Coonans aren't too hard to find, you can get them with box and papers for $2-3k. $2k 10 years ago was not a particularly good price. They are neat guns but they don't have much collector demand and they haven't really appreciated much.>>65114704My biggest regret was passing on a .454 Mateba Unica at Collector's Firearms in Houston many years ago. They were asking $1700, which was an awful lot of money for my broke student ass. In hindsight I should have maxed out my CC to buy it, but at the time they were still being imported so I had no clue they would soon become unobtanium.
>>65113500I actually think the 30 carbine auto 3 is a bit neater than the 44
>>65114050I do love 357 SIG i consider it to be a mag autoloader lol
>>65114786There was a Mateba I saw listed at Cabelas for $3k a little while back and I was non-stop calling them and they wouldn't answer, by the time I finally got through, the guy said it was already sold...
>>65113503>Would be if the Automags weren't super picky about ammo and fed properly half the time. Looks sexy af tho>>65114050>>65114078>>65114361The modern Automag fixed all those problems.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erbxUVpsrs8https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORUCly0nrbI
>>65114078A .475 Wildey Magnum is a shorter version of the African big game cartridge... it makes a real mess.
>>65113503BASICALLY if i remember, some guy took over the company in the late 70s/early 80s and cheaped out which is why they have the reputation.wish they could overcome it but they probably never will.one of them was something along the lines of taking several intricate parts and making them all one big part.one guy said he was able to smith his and make it work better in a simple way, so who knows.>>65114078Wildey Survivors and Hunters are nice too.I wish exposed barrel pistols were common again.
>Giant fucking aluminum framed hi power in proto .45 win magImagine.
>>65116227An SMG variant was proposed as well
>>65116209AnonBuyCameraKillTheGiggler
>>65114078I think what made the Deagle successful is a combination of marketing and the fact ot can be had two commonly available Magnum revolver cartridges. .50AE gets all the press, but it's great in .44 Magnum. It's also nice that you can go from .44 Mag to .50AE with a five second barrel swap and a magazine change.
>>65116746Honestly I’ve always wanted a .357 DEagle. I have a serious hard on for .357 auto loaders.
>>65116746It's also just more aesthetic than the others.
>>65116788I've got barrels for all four calibers now, both six and ten inch. Standard velocity (158 grain at about 1200 fps or so) is kind of weird. It cycles the gun just fine, but the momentum of the pound and a half slide actually pulls the gun forward and down. It's almost like reverse recoil. Especially with the ten inch barrel. Swapping to .357 Mag does require field stripping the slide and changing the bolt which takes a minute or so once you've practiced it. I got mine in .44 Mag first, Then got a .50AE, then .357 Mag. I got a .429DE barrel a couple of years ago and got ten inch barrels when they went back into production. Saturday I had a chance to handle an L6 full size lightweight. I kind of want one just because it almost felt like a normal gun in the hand, weight wise.
>>65116788People that have never shot one and drool over the .50AE version will tell you you’re retarded. But as someone who owns multiple barrel lengths in multiple calibers, .357 mag is the one everyone just has pure fun with, even kids and women can shoot it, it has 9mm like recoil, and 10+1 .357 mag is nothing to sneeze at. It is more costly for the initial bolt, barrel, and magazines for a .357 conversion, so if you want to only shoot .357, order the gun like that to save money, stay away from the L5s, any story you hear of Desert Eagles snapping gas pistons is because of those.
>>65116798compared to the others, it looks like a "normal" semiauto scaled up. My brother pointed out that since it's a gas piston system with a rotating bolt that the slide is both the op rod and bolt carrier.
>>65116825Good advice here.
>>65116788If you can find an early MkI or MkVII, they had a dedicated barrel and slide that were smaller than the current MkXIX which uses the same barrel and slide. Earlier .357 Mag Deagles will have the caliber on the slide instead of the barrel and a thin dovetail on the barrel instead of the rail. Pic is the 1994 MkVII lineup. The smaller barreled guns are .357 Mag, .41 Mag and .44 Mag. The .357 MkVII is actually a pound or so lighter than the .50AE version.
>>65116818>>65116825>>65116829>>65116831Thanks for the info and pics anons, I really appreciate the quality posts amidst the current torrent of shit the board is blasting out.>>65116851I got a chance to hold one of those original, smaller .357 DEagles at Collector’s in Houston a couple decades back and thought the scaled down size was really cool. If I ever do get around to buying one I will likely go with price and parts availability first and foremost but the idea of a “compact” Desert Eagle still strikes me as really cool.
I'm in the market for a Desert Eagle and I'm settling on the Mark XIX .357 Magnum one as the initial configuration because >I already stock it>the low recoil is appealing >ammo is cheaper than .44 Magnum and .50 AE >the .357 Magnum model is seemingly more tolerant of different loads than the .44 Magnum one is>.357 is easily found locally (I buy ammo online, but like to have offline sources in case of an emergency)I figure I'll get a .50 AE barrel and .44 Magnum/.50 AE bolt at some point to shoot once in a blue moon. Good idea?
>>65117875Sounds like a plan to me.
>>65116231Holy fucking schnikes reminds me how bad I want HI point to start making a carbine in 50AE and if successful then a pistol. And yes I know how this sounds
>>65116746>>65116818I envy you.
>>65118765I bought it all piecemeal over a decade starting with the base gun in .44 Magnum and then picking up additional barrels, mags and .357 bolt every couple of years.
