Like always, Gilliam has a new plate. Introducing the Gilliam 6002. It's $300 a pop, 5lb as of today, 1.15" thick as of today, multi-curve, and rated for NIJ RF2 + M855A1. It is $100 cheaper than an LTC 19513 and slightly lighter, but only rated for the easier .07 drop test and 3x 7.62x51mm M80 versus the harder .06 drop test and 6x 7.62x51mm M80. They both have the same A1 rating. This splits the difference price-wise almost exactly between the Militech RF2 SiC or a pair of old Protech 2120-5s and the 19513 / Hesco 3411.

Seems pretty mid, IMO.

It's 3.5lb, so 1.5lb lighter than the Tardigrade only rated for IIIA. It looks like it'll work with a gas mask, so I could see this actually being useful in very niche situations but at the same time what the fuck it's an ergonomic disaster.
Situational awareness so far in the shitter it came back out and fukkedyamudda.

Alright hang on I figured it out. Buy an XSBI 6x8 and zip tie it to the ballistic visor in >>65114873. This provides single hit M993 protection to the face. The XSBI is 2.5lb, so this means your face is now IV+ M993 rated for only one pound more than the all-steel IIIA Tardigrade.

It happened when I tried my brooks on for the first time. My heel was like an inch above the rest of my foot. I felt retarded and ashamed. I tried running down the street, but I got tired and my ankles hurt. Then A2's dad A1Grip offered me a $5,000 thermal drone in exchange for a handie and I turned him in to the cops. He shot my cock off with the Requiem and I passed out. I wear the larger 10x12 ones on top of a Jinwudun IIIA kilt held up by suspenders, so that's padded out automatically. I think bungee cord would be a disaster or at least making running a pain in the ass. Solution is probably just running some kind of pad between the peenor and the plate if you don't want to commit to a full 360-degree heavy ass setup.

Interesting steel plate I missed for the Ukraine armor infographic. DSTU Class 5, 7mm Armox Advance, rated for 3x 7.62x39mm BZ API or 3x 7.62x54R LPS. Built in trauma pad apparently.
It's rare to see a steel plate with BZ API protection, that's usually a sidegrade threat from M855A1. Only steel plates that go higher than this are the 12lb Level IVs you used to be able to get at shady gunshows, 1/2" MIL-46100 or shitty mystery meat alloy. Converted to USD it's $140/set, which is cheap as hell for steel that's actually better than 90% of what's on the domestic US market.

Steel armor still sucks in the same way digital NV sucks, don't be fooled. Ukrainians only use this shit out of sheer desperation. They also use digital NV for the same reason. Curious if that bites them in the ass since the Chinese units are all riddled to the gills with display-sharing apps, wifi, and bluetooth.

>Cloaks are based. End of story.
Or is it the beginning of the story?
>InLuke 22:36-38, Jesus says: "...if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one
Jesus himself would advise you to sell your cloak and buy a sword, if you don't have one. I have a sword, therefore it only stands to the reason of The Gospel that I buy a cloak. Now, if I buy one in Arctic MC and add a nice silver fox collar, black chain mail fringe on the hem, a quilted red satin liner, water proofing treatment, and a hidden inside pocket for my new double edged dagger, surely Jesus would approve. You can't do much better that that.

Got a fun one. I went cruising through the archives and found this ridiculous alleged super plate in 2024. 2x 7.62x51mm M1158 ADVAP protection, standalone, at 4.4lb. M1158 outperforms M993 and therefore this 4.4lb plate magically outperforms 6.5lb XSAPIs and is comparable to, if not outright superior to the Adept Colossus while weighing more than two pounds less.
Interestingly enough, it seems to be that Counter Croak vaporware plate called the Bushveld. Evidence is in pic related. Same exact weight, they look very similar, similar language in the website, the website pre-order was just about exactly when the poster said it would be (in the coming months). They both use overseas partners allegedly (Taiwan for Croak).
So why isn't the actual plate rated for M1158? Just M2AP and M80A1. Is this some kind of secret turbo model? If so, why the fuck did they post it on /k/?

I'll cut the theorizing. The Bushveld has been in pre-order hell since August 2024. A 4.4lb triple-M2AP IV+ is technically impossible with current material science. They claim a proprietary PE composite. A double-hit 4.4lb M1158 plate is outright ridiculous and means pic rel would literally be the best plate of all time by a mile.

Counter Croak anon, if you're still around, can we see the test report?

I’ve been running a qore performance vest with the ice plate, I like it. I don’t have any other point of reference, but it’s easy to put on and take off, and it’s breathable in my configuration. The only thing I dislike is the Velcro on the front plate, I’d rather it be laser cut. It’s not a huge issue, I just need to buy a placard. I may not notice issues as fast however, as ultimately I lean more into a battle belt setup over using my plate carrier

I also didn’t realize that 10x12 Kevlar (in my case at least) is harder to move in then the full size BALCS stuff or whatever it’s called used by LE. Not really a complaint, just something I didn’t realize. I get why ppl like shooters cut however

If you take a Hesco 4800, cut the drop protection, and make it a 9.5x11.5 you're at the 4.4lb mark. I think that's their play. The M1158 protection is straight up bullshit and I think they just shot it with M80A1.
If the very lightest quasi-Level IV from Ceradyne is 4lb Swimmer / 4.2lb SAPI M, an M1158 rated XSAPI+ for 4.4lb is an absurd mog.
>are there any plates which use a crack arrestor setup similar to Ceradyne imp/act?
Plenty. Many pre-2017 ESAPIs use an aluminum crack arrestor. Ceradyne's older SOCOM plates used steel like IMP/ACT. MH3 CQB and SOF ESAPIs also used steel. Hyperion's plates use titanium.

They are printed out of TPU and are indeed squishy. They are more comfortable if you are too stupid/dont want to configure your pads correctly. In terms of heat, they feel about the same as 4D pads ime but its a helmet its gonna be hot. I dont believe any of the head injury related shit they spin because thats super poorly studied/understood and I dont expect chinks or HHV to grasp it.

There are some programs to 3d scan peoples heads and then make custom printed latice pads so they can actually integrate air channels and improve upon the design.
>>
>>65117355
>I dont believe any of the head injury related shit they spin because thats super poorly studied/understood and I dont expect chinks or HHV to grasp it.
Agreed. Behind armor blunt trauma is only just beginning to be well-understood for the torso. The head is still the wild west, especially since the NIJ standard hasn't been updated since the 80s and there's no compliance testing for this stuff.

>>65115700
So I did some math for the plate here and in theory the 4.4lb 2x M1158 defeat is doable, but it needs to use a B4C-TiB2 strike face and a zylon backer while also being 9.5x11.5. China has all the ingredients but I haven't seen them actually put B4C-TiB2 to plates or use their knockoff Zylon in armor. I also don't think counter croak used those materials because that's far and away beyond a $900 plate. Also Zylon is banned for use in armor products in the US.

Based.

Also FYI, dude on Tacswap has 2007-era MSAPs for sale, $300/set. Contrary to the listing, these look to be the older BZ API rated version paired with the MSAPI and are not roughly Level IV.

Would make for good cheap sides if you're rolling L211s, M210s, heck even PBZSAs.
