Can somebody please tell me what I am paying for in a $100 scope vs a $300 scope vs a $1000 scope
>>
Image clairty and not losing zero

how many times will you make this thread? i've been seeing this shit for years, copy fucking paste at that

Higher quality glass will remain clearer at higher magnification, plus it transmits more light and therefore a brighter picture during sunrise/sunset when you have limited light to work with. You'll always lose some light looking through a scope, but having say 10% vs 5 is a massive difference. It's very situation dependent so there isn't a spec sheet stat for this effect, so crappy scopes can gloss over this downside in their advertising.

Past that, the crosshairs actually have to be able to move to your point of impact and stay there from shot to shot. This isn't trivial because the internal mechanism of a scope reticle has very fine gears and it's much cheaper to make them out of plastic or shitty soft metal with crappy tolerances. That means it'll shift when you shoot, or the gun has a lot of recoil or you handle it rough, or it's vibrating in the trunk of your car. There's no quantifiable value to how much a scope resists losing zero so just like glass clarity a crap one will get away not explaining this deficiency on its spec sheet.

Then there are the features. Things like illuminated reticles and different knobs to have pre-set bullet drop calibration, even adjustable magnification (as opposed to one fixed power) add cost. All this crap can be done cheaply if you don't care how badly.
A dead giveaway is bullet drop compensation on a scope that's second focal plane, because the BDC will only be accurate at one if the magnification powers. There's no way it'll remain accurate as you zoom in/out unless it's a first focal plane optic.

And finally scopes do take a bit of hands on time to properly fit/assemble. The color of those hands has the biggest impact of all. If a scope is made in Germany it's going to cost your entire monthly salary and up, if the same exact scope is made to the same exact standards by yellow or brown hands in a country with no labor/environmental regulations it'll cost 1/5 as much.

primary arms any good?

Yes, both are decent. Designed in the US, made in China but final QC also in the US rather than taking their word for it. That's what makes the difference.

If you can get a deal with a foreign manufacturer that they only get paid based on the number of their products passing your QC rather than theirs you have the best of both worlds. Their low production costs, but your standards. It's difficult to get a deal like that arranged because it's basically impossible to enforce a breach of contract and both sides have to trust each other (good luck with the Chinese on that), but it's a business superpower if you can pull it off.

Flips make vortex scopes now

Probably fine

a premium

A $100 optic will not tolerate the recoil of .308 or even .223, they're really only viable for .22s

Are you stuck in 2005 or something? Fucking retard
>>65118392
This guy >>65118408 answered your question pretty well but I would also like to point out that cheaper scopes tend to be much heavier. They're fundamentally needing to achieve similar levels of shock resistance and durability without the same quality of materials or craftsmanship, or at least I figure as much. But yeah compare a cheap Vortex scope with a comparable Leupold and you'll most likely find a huge weight difference.

Get this scope. 1-6x red or green reticle with black or brown scope body. Around $350 new. You will need a good mount. Don't get a cheap Amazon mount.

Or get a Primary Arms fixed 3x or 5x microprism which includes a mount.

Dropping more money on a scope gets you better glass, better glass coatings, more durability, more reticle choice, and higher magnification that you can actually use.

1-6x will be sufficient to 400 meters or beyond.

what about this one?

Paying extra so the chinesium importer selling the same stuff at different prices can afford a visit to your mom this month.
>>
>>65119764
That would be a Primary Arms fixed 3x microprism which includes a mount, so yeah I think it's safe to say that one is included
>>
>>65119846
it's their prism, not micro prism
