Carpets are fine. They are, in effect, no different than rugs, which are also fine. There is nothing wrong with carpets or rugs when properly cared for. This includes not wearing outdoor shoes indoors, and not letting pets from outdoors onto carpet.

You have no argument. You probably can't help but wear shoes indoors, or let pets indoors, which is why you shift the blame onto the carpet.

Rugs are fine because you can take them outside and hit them with a tennis racket every month to get all the shit out, then clean them in a vat or whatever.

Personally I saw LVP (the people who don't know about homes complain about when they buy a rennovation, who also use the term mcmansion as if it means anything towards material quality) hold up better than wood floors. No real swell of natural material, scratches instead of gouges material off, and you can clean with a steam mop.
It costs about the same to just tear out and replace wood-look vinyl plank as actually restoring hardwoodwood if its been neglected.

But it doesn't have

That is the correct place for a pet, should you want to own one. It is not right to share living quarters (or, God forbid a bed, which is equally as common) with an animal that also goes outside and cannot wash itself after defecation; the last time in history this was done would have been medieval peasants who basically had to live in the same barn their livestock did.

Or at least I try to do this yearly. I have failed for the last 5 years.

>>65122568
Do you defend sharing a bed with an animal that can't bathe itself, instead licking its anus and genitals in order to clean itself? And because your skin has little to no melanin (which has nothing to do with the animal in question), this is somehow okay?

Make it make sense. Defend this behavior without grasping at straws. Give me your very best defense.

>>65122402
LVP is fake chinky bullshit that isn't particularly strong in any sense of the word. It's made out of some weird granular plastic material that likes to crumble for whatever reason. Also when you scratch it, there's no getting the scratch out. Since it's just an image of wood printed on plastic, attempting to buff it out will just turbo fuck it. Also it will tear itself apart at the joints from thermal cycling in a few years.
>>
>>65122786
No one is talking about hatred of dogs, you schizophrenic. If my wife stopped using a toilet and instead shit in the yard and stopped showering and instead took to licking herself clean, I wouldn't share a bed with her, nor would most people, because that behavior is something you could only excuse out of a feral child or an actual retard. Even the "high quality" 40 mil or whatever LVP scratches just like the cheapest home depot garbage.
>What exactly are you doing on top of your indoor flooring that needs to be strong?
I'd consider a material that can be damaged to the point of needing replacement by a rock in someone's shoe to be a subpar flooring material.
>And if you truly fucked up the LVP, you're in luck , they snap in and out like LEGOs. Easily replaceable.
You can't fool me Mr. salesman. If the damage appears anywhere in the middle of the floor, you're ripping out half the planks to get to the damaged piece. Not to mention you're also likely gonna have to rip out baseboard to get it back in.
>>
>>65122900
>durka durka mohammed allahu akbar or something
Do you want to explain what your brown worship of Walmart clothes has to do with dogs?
>>
>>65122905
The only time you're scratching your floor, it's when you're moving furniture. And guess what, it'll damage all floor except maybe carpet or tile. Every, "point," you're making against LVP applies to hardwood.
Don't even know why I'm talking to you, you've never done anything but rented apartments your whole life. If you ever buy a house, buy whatever the fuck you want. I'll take the LVP every room that might see moisture (front entry, garage entry, porch entry, kitchen, bathroom) unless I'm doing tile.
>>
>>65121519
>carpet
yuck
>>
>>65122923
I literally install and repair floors as a job you absolute gorilla retard. Floors get scratched from all sorts of dumb bullshit. But the scratching isn't even all you've got to worry about with LVP. If your contractor fucks you and leaves you with an uneven subfloor, this will create stress points that will crack apart the joints in LVP in like a year. Doing LVP repair will weaken the joints of any planks you re-use, and you will be re-using planks because homeowners usually don't keep a pallet's worth of extra flooring material in their garage. Also, going out and just buying more is an iffy prospect because manufacturers discontinue their shit all the time. Even if you can get the same brand of the same LVP, if it's from a different production lot the tolerances will be slightly different and clicking it into the old floor doesn't work so smooth no more.
tl;dr just do tile, your chinky plastic floors are shit
>>
>>65122951
Oh yeah this doesn't even get into the LVP needing thermal expansion room, so you're always going to have an annoying gap right next to your tub that will let water underneath and you can't do shit about it. Caulking the gap means you ruin the thermal expansion joint btw.

I'm a general contractor homebuilder who actually comes back to the houses 10 years down the line. If your subfloor is fucked, then you have much larger problems. There's always a leftover open box of LVP/tile/trim that gets tossed under the stairs by the half-full paint buckets and other jobsite repair material. And you don't throw away the entire floor to get to the one scratched plank, you relay it after replacing the one blemish.

I've seen some fucked hardwood floors and truly beautiful ones. I'd still take the LVP in all of those moisture areas, because the wood will swell and even buckle. And its better than sheet vinyl, which was the old standard. Or tile.

Yeah there's always the one or two boxes of spare flooring, but all the pieces you have to rip up to get to the damage will have to be reset. Those pieces are now irreparably weakened, and the one or two spare boxes aren't enough to cover that. In this area, all the houses are built on concrete pads and uneven subfloors are always due to the concrete guy fucking you with shitty work from his Mexican crew. The pad can be, and often is, structurally sound while being uneven bullshit.
The only place I'd ever consider putting LVP is in an entryway where you don't have the tub problem, and even then just do tile nigga.

Fair enough, we have a frostline at five feet so everyone extends the foundation a few more to make a basement. LVP is laid on the aboveground floors which better be plum because it's built lumber framing, and hopefully the inspector or CSM have double checked the rough carpenter's work before even thinking of flooring. I'd rather do tile on concrete --or decorative epoxy resin.

Whenever the decision to use something other than hardwood is made, it's for financial reasons, not functional or aesthetic ones. Ask a contractor if you don't believe me. If your house was made in the last 50 years and doesn't have hardwood, it's because the builder thought that you couldn't afford it.

If you've got this problem the best solution is to just rip your floor up and put down some of the self-leveling compound shit. There are options that are good for up to like two inches thickness difference (God forbid it's actually that fucking out) although I don't think I've ever seen anyone need to relevel anything that bad.
>>
>>65122046
It's coming from american TV shows an movies, especially widely dubbed and circulated ones. >There are options that are good for up to like two inches thickness difference (God forbid it's actually that fucking out)
I once saw some guys working on a hotel remodel desperately try to fill a roughly 5'x10' pit that was ~2 inches thick with an entire pallet of self leveler. It got too cold or something and it cracked out overnight. They then proceeded to do the same exact thing. By the time we were done with the job those guys were still trying to fix the pit. Thank God that wasn't our problem lol.

Hardwood floor is superior simply because someone paying 4x the cost of vinyl flooring is more likely to pay a competent contractor to do it properly rather than having Pablo throw ik on the floor and wall away.

Simple as.

Anywhere hardwood flooring was actually the standard is going to be at minimum 50+ years old now and is undoubtedly made from better materials than you could realistically procure outside of getting wood planks like you'd find on a basketball court. Some of the old homes I've been in just have the wood floor there's no intermediate layer between it and the floor joist it's just giant boards making up the subfloor and finished floor. Not even rich people could afford that nowadays.

>>65123345 here. This is what's beneath the floor that I showed you in that pic. Once upon a time, American homes were built by craftsmen that built homes for a living. They used high quality materials, took their time, and built for long term durability, not to (barely) pass inspection and last to the end of a ten year warranty. They built the sort of houses that they themselves wanted to live in.

Picrel is how a modest middle class home was constructed in 1931. Note the boards that make up the subfloor. (Disregard the concrete discoloration. It was not uncommon back then to recycle the forms used for pouring the foundation into the subfloor.) Those boards are straighter and better grained than what you'll find at a DIY store today...and they used them for the fucking subfloor and to pour concrete, because that was low grade wood to them. Obviously this would be prohibitively expensive today but back then, it wasn't...and what did they use for flooring, when cost was not a huge concern? Wood for dry areas and linoleum (real linoleum, not today's fake ass shit) for the kitchen and bathroom. Why? Because they last.

Carpet is cope. Particle board is cope. This is what they took from you.

My 1890s-ish house is 1 inch thick softwood tongue-and-groove boards nailed direct to the joists. I wish it was hardwood and it'll be the devil's job to sand it to a presentable finish but I don't think I can bring myself to paint it. I would never carpet it or do any kind of overlay, first thing I did upon moving it was rip up the disgusting old carpets and the even older century+ aged oil-cloth flooring they used like Lino. And the rental of a floor sander for a couple of days will probably be less than the cost of fucking paint these days. I'd probably treat it with Danish Oil or something after that.

Took me two 12hr days cutting along each edge of each board to take the floor up when I sprayed for woodworm.
>>
>>65121526
I grew up with wooden floors but when I moved to the American west I realized how nice carpet is. It keeps your feet insulated without unnecessarily heating the house too much. In dry climates it doesn’t attract mold or bugs. It’s great for babies to fall on. It insulates noise. I still prefer the high gloss wood floor aesthetic but carpet is awesome if you’re even moderately clean. It’s not for people who walk around the house with their boots on bringing in the shit, pesticides, glyphosate, and other crap and spreading it all over the house.
>>
>>65126794
It's unfortunate really how we have already used up most of the high quality old trees in North America (at least the ones the government is willing to give up, and I'm personally not mad at the decision to avoid squandering this resource further) Now all we're left with is bum ass 2x4s harvested from tree farms that turn into curly fries in about 6 months.

Construction people know we're experiencing a civilization collapse event in slow motion like the Romans did. Reclaimed wood from barns made for animals is a perfect example of it.

>tfw inherited 1959s house my parents bought back in the 80s
>tfw people that rented it before they bought it wrecked the floors before they got kicked out by just smearing their baby's shit on the wood floor

Frank Reynolds was right, people will act like animals if they know they have to vacate the premises. On the plus side that and knowing the owner meant my parents got the house for 11,000 dollars, that and they knew what the previous tenants did and told the seller it's fine, we'll just put carpet in.

Nah it’s bs, it’s fun and works sometimes but I definitely wouldn’t trust my lift with it, better than carrying loose rounds though. It probably would be better with .38 than .357 because of the weight but it’s still finicky. This is one I plan to get next, hopefully not another sham, and if my 3d printer didn’t burn in a fire I could make it myself.

white people have for the most part always slept with their animals indoors. for most of history having a separate barn for your animals was financially way out of reach.

That doesn't make it right, that doesn't mean it's hygienic, and that doesn't mean we should do the same today.

you can get real full auto on tec-9 type guns if you flip the little piece that holds the firing pin the other way. its that simple. the firing pin will catch on the sear but will not interact with the disconnector so its kind of a weird hybrid of striker fired and open bolt.

this is what the kids today call 'elite ball knowledge'

The "living room" looks like it's annoying to move through. It'd be cool if there was furniture that could collapse into itself, like if you could push that couch forward and the coffee table went under the cushions and then the whole couch nested into the entertainment center somehow.

My great grandfather had a house like this on a lake in Louisiana. Dead animals all over the walls. Record setting bucks. Ceramic whiskey bottles disguised as wildlife figurines above the fireplace. A gigantic snapping turtle shell in the corner of the enclosed patio the size of a fucking coffee table. A basement full of God knows how much homemade wine. I never knew him as well as I wanted to, but he gave me a Weatherby 240 magnum and at least $800 worth of ammo once he heard I'd started hunting. That kind of man is virtually extinct now. People don't even have houses like that anymore.
