My primary weapon for home defense if I couldn’t own a gun
Doesn't mean business enough.
>>65122187Boarding pike, trench spear, or spontoon?
>>65122187I got these things hidden away, attached with magnets all over the house. Put them there when my gf moved in. She said she's not comfortable/confident in using a firearm but having razor sharp pokers around gives me peace of mind.
>>65122237>She said she's not comfortable/confident in using a firearmlmao please be a joke
>>65122237So she can't shoot someone but has the training, athleticism, and capability to stab a home invader much larger and stronger than her?>pic rel, burglar when the shitty zinc pot metal knife chips off his leather jacket and a 5'0 90lb woman attempts to use tae kwon do on his 6'5 300lb ass.Get her a gun fool.
>>65122246>blathering about tae kwon do for some fucking reason
>>65122251because the knife broke man. What's she gonna do, fist the guy? key claws? pepper spray that the average dude can tank because it's so watered down? A stun gun that feels like a sunburn? She needs a heater.
>>65122276People too incompetent to arm themselves don't deserve them.
For me, it's a khyber knife.
>>65122187Iklwa + surplus riot shield Make sure to practice your shield drumming and Xhosa war chants while watching Zulu (1964)
>>65123508Funny that you mention that, I thought of the same thing. Cold Steel used to make one. They still make the head, so I suppose someone could mount it on an appropriate shaft if they wanted something like that. It's an interesting footnote in history that Shaka independently rediscovered a Roman fighting technique and got some mileage out of it when so many of Rome's contemporaries couldn't manage to do the same, even with Roman instruction.>hint: the short spear becomes a much more interesting weapon when you figure out that it can also be used as a sword with one hand, and you can do things that the romans never imagined if you grip it with both hands
>>65123589Kult of Athena sells em with shaft for $69 beans apparently. Kind of fucking want to buy one, damn you guys for mentioning this. I don't need my gf wondering why mail-order spears are showing up at the house.
>>65123589It's been something on my mind for a long time.I wonder if you could make something like a modernized hide shield that's some kind of high strength fabric composite thing on a lightweight metal frame.Dubious advantage over a riot shield on all fronts but with a zytel shaft on the iklwa you have the foundation of some kind of mall ninja impi
>>65122187Gladius. Good for close in fights. Can poke their guts out with quick thrusts from the confines of a hallway, kitchen, bathroom, whatever.
>>65123498Nice. Too pricy for me though.
>>65123589>It's an interesting footnote in history thathas been played up by the ancestors of BLM; before that the iklwa was never worshiped, people just took it as "oh great the Dark Continent finally produced a weapon of some effectiveness, two millennia after Europe did">>65123818>high strength fabric composite thing on a lightweight metal framewhat are you trying to do with it?bullets are obviously no gohome invaders with machetes? if you are strong enough to lift and parry quickly, maybe some thin mild steel would be usefulconsider sizing according to your terrain; for the tight confines of the typical home, bucklers may be more useful than a massive aspis you need to turn sideways to fit through doorways>>65122187home invaders without a gun typically use machetes. that's your threat reference.
>>65123874>what are you trying to do with it?Oh I'm just taking an idea to an absurd conclusion. If I was to actually use this setup I'd go with a smallish riot shield.Nevertheless I defend my home with a gun lol so this is all just goofing off.
I'm in europe, most burglars don't have guns.A combined wood/steel shield is probably best. Pure wood+leather too easy to split, pure steel too heavy.
>>65123899Gladius was already mentioned>>65123871but I will add the possibility of a hanger or messer.
>>65123900Matt easton suggested that small shield+sword can mean you will bang into your own sword hand with your shield, and basket hilt swords solve that problem. Makes me wonder whether a short, slightly curved basket hilt sword might be the best for home defense. Noone produces such a thing though.
>>65123904Is cold steel polyproplyene actually viable against edged weapons? Because if so, this large buckler (they call it targe but that's wrong) might be one of the best options.
>>65123899Other than style (in which it holds a considerable advantage), what does this offer over a quality polymer riot shield of about the same size?
>>65123910Does that polymer stand up to edged weapons though? Don't know much about it.>>65123906
>>65122187>>65122208Congratulations you found literally the worst weapon for fighting indoors lmao.Everyone in history who actually had to fight in those conditions and got to pick their own weapon used a one handed relatively short and heavy slashing and stabbing capable blade.
>>65123871The Cold Steel gladius Machete is nowhere near as good as a sword of it's size, it's not even up to par with other Machetes. Cold Steel literally sold it as a joke and poorfags keep trying to use it to fight.
>>65122187>My primary weapon for home defense if I couldn’t own a gunYou would be better off with a standard 900mm wrecking crowbar . It's also a useful tool to have anyway and its both a better weapon and more easy to use in a confined space, having one end you can thrust with with a starp and it's good for a swing as well..
>>65123938>wooden warships and trenches were spacious
>>65123938You don’t need to room clear, just hold the line in your hallway. They’re not getting around you.
>>65124556People on ships used cutlasses. People in trenches used clubs, daggers and shovels. Neither used spears.
>>65122187I SHOOT 10MM!
>>65122246>but has the training, athleticism, and capability to stab a home invader much larger and stronger than her?Ok, so don't underrate training, ok?
>>65123904Some guy made this out of a windlass Cutlass.Kind of close to what you're thinking about or too long?
>>65124994lol
>>65122187I would use one of those semi-semi-automatic crossbow with magazine feeding. A crossbow bolt through the chest will make anyone rethink the idea of breaking into your house, if you're unable to own guns.
>>65124986So then what is a trench spear or a boarding pike? We're going in circles.
