Need help identifying this revolver only writings on it are .38 long colt and made in Spain
Smith and Wesson something. Open the cylinder and check for a set up numbers where the crane sets. That will be your model.
>>65124598And it is loaded. Unload it before you fuck with it.
>>65124596392 is all I can find, from what I researched Smith always left a stamp under or on the handle I can’t find anything even faded.
>>65124602Load 5 not 6 I ride horseback with this constantly I’m aware of how to handle it checking for markings doesn’t require you to cock it, pull the trigger, or stare down the barrel.
>>65124602We sure they aren't snapcaps? The primer looks awful dark in OP's pic but his color settings could be fucked I guess.
>>65124611OP here 1000% loaded. However I emptied it when anon told me to check for the number near the cylinder.
>>65124588that's an Eibar revolver, some liscenced local made colt revolvers, spain also did some french 1882 revolvers for the french army during WW1
>>65124611oh and those aren't 38 long colt, it's 38 special, check your chambering and make sure it's the correct rounds for it, if not discard of them
>>65124623I’m aware they shoot fine out of it, almost like shooting .38 out of a .357 who knew!
>>65124618That was the conclusion I came up with from what I researched, since I know smith stamped all theirs even the early models. But I also know people made copies like you mentioned. Appreciate it, if it was a smith I wasn’t gonna blue it because it’s just a throwaway
>>65124638colt also stamp their models, you should the horse on the side of the receiver somewhere, if it's not there then it's an Eibar, it's still fine tho, the spanish did made some good firearms, maybe you should change the grips and work on the rust so it doesn't turn into scraps.
>>65124648It came to me completely in pieces, you wouldn’t believe it but this was after me working on the rust for days, I probably won’t blue it seems disrespectful to the history. I did ask some people I know for better rust removing tips and will be trying them. I did want new grips but wasn’t sure if I could find any to fit it but the smith model 1 grips would probably fit.
>>65124588It's an unlicensed copy of a Pre Model-10 K frame. They were manufactured by a wide variety of small informal workshops and larger factories in Spain in the early 1900s. Gun making there was a cottage industry just like how Turkish shotguns are made today, with WIDELY varying quality.I would not recommend shooting that revolver because the metal they used was pretty bad, it was a very long time ago and some of the .38s were only made for .38 Long Colt pressures rather than modern .38 Special.>>65124604It's a copy so they didn't follow the same markings. Are there any stampings on the gun?Particularly look for a shield with a knight's helmet inside. That would mean it's at least proof tested. There should be one in the frame, barrel and cylinder. If there are none, DO NOT shoot it.>>65124618Lolno, they weren't licensed at all. Spanish law only allowed patents for locals, they would let anyone rip off any foreign design. Granted, this revolver could have been made after all the S&W patents had expired in any case, since production ran into the 1930s.
>>65124631>shooting .38 Special anything out of a .38 Long Colt>shooting .38 Special anything out of a fucking unlicensed Eibar .38 Long Colt copyDo you also sledgehammer your hands into mush before cutting your fingers off with kitchen knives?

I have one of those in 32-20. It has black powder proof marks even though it was made well past 1900. I shoot it with cowboy loads. The end shake is horrendous but the forcing cone is jewmongous, its never spit lead but I think it would explode with hot rounds.
