How fucked are you if you live in Australia, in terms of self-defence, ownership, and collecting?
>>
'''Self-defence''' isn't a real reason for having a firearm, ownership is okay as long as you present a real reason (hunting, farm pest culling, gun club member, etc.), get properly licenced, and store your shit properly.
>>
Rhetorical question, we all know Australia is absolutely fucked

Double fucked
This is what happens when you combine a weak spirited populace with a government that actively hates them. They’re a bunch of tools who just want the nanny state to feed them, burp them, and change their diapers. They don’t even know what fucking freedom is at this point. I literally cannot hate Australians more than I already do.

What do you think?

Felons shouldn’t be allowed firearms. It’s an island of felons. I applaud Australia for keeping their inmates under control

I used to work in a supermarket. We can't sell knives to anyone under 16. Need photo ID to sell a packet of plastic butter knives.

Machetes are banned in Queensland; that's sugar cane country. I figure they're trying to put small farmers out of business again.

Martial arts weapons are illegal, the only time that was enforced was when Walt Missingham and his Martial Arts Industry Association were sending spies to dojos and reporting anyone who wouldn't join their group.

I have a friend who served in Vietnam; he carried the M60 in his squad, and now because of a historical drug bust for weed, the police raided his house, took his guns and his license, and one yelled at him, "We're the only ones allowed to have guns, you cunt!". It took years of litigation and a personal reference from me (!) to get his license back.

The zombie knife law is real. I could write "zombie" on a knife in Texta and it's now illegal.

My old neighbour was a competitive shooter, he had to keep his guns and ammo in separate locked fireproof safes in different rooms, with trigger locks, and the police could make surprise inspections of his home.
And yes, he had timed how long it would take to get the gun unlocked and load it, and it was too long for even a professional to be useful in a home invasion.

Mind you, the muggers and rapists and hitmen and one-percenters in this country never seem to have a fucking shortage of firearms, has anyone told them it's illegal?

No pepper gas, no tasers, no batons, no walking sticks or umbrellas designed for self-defence. Rape alarms and karate. That's about it. We're as bad as the fucking UK.

A store owner getting robbed every day was told by police he'd have to catch them himself. He did and tied them up with bag ties, the first thing the cops did was ask the robbers if they wanted to press charges against the storekeeper.

Seems like you'd need a different solution rather than calling the cops.

I’m bit iffy on using Karate, using any sort of MA seems like it would piss off the cops

This entire fucking thread reads like retarded bait.

Yeah, 'self defence' isn't a valid reason for firearm ownership. But the flipside is that 99.9% of the populace isn't going to need to worry about it either. So its a moot point. Flip side of this: I believe personal defence devices (pepper spray, tasers, batons etc should be unrestricted.

Ownership? Prove you're not a complete fucking retard by obtaining loicence and have an actual reason for wanting gats. Which can be as simple as 'join gun club to put holes in paper' among a variety of other entirely valid reasons. The only people who complain about licenses shouldn't have fucking guns anyway and after 20 odd years of dealing with the general public I'm fucking glad they don't. I'm not a cop, or any sort of Govt employee either and never have been.

Collecting
Depends. My old boss has his gat collection and also collects ammo. Dude has *thousands* of rounds of ammo, collectors items. Most are deloused (but still considered ammo) and he's never had a problem. In twenty years of collecting he's had the coppers ring up and ask to double check his stuff twice that I recall, usually after 'gun violence' gets in the news. Never had an issue. The collector organization has similar stories. On the other hand There was one dude in the next town over to me now that got in shit for owning 350 firearms. All perfectly legal and licenced and apparently that made the NSW pollies shit bricks and now they're changing the law... which brings me to my next point.

The problem:
The state governments love changing the laws to punish law abiding owners and it fucking shits me. They do it as a reactionary thing to be seen to be 'doing something' which doesn't actually fix the issue of what little gun violence we do have here.... which is typically illegal anyway. The best example of this was Albo getting pressured to do something about gun laws on the anniversary of Port Arthur and he basically responded with 'why?'
