Tried out bro's duals for the first time this weekend. Damn having depth perception is nice but I run a PVS14 with a bridged thermal and it's so much more useful i just can't see myself switching over.

>>65131860This is the same little guy as >>65131835 It was an opossum that thought we couldn't see it and scampered away into the woods when it figured out that we weren't stopping
>>65130928dual + coti
>>65131879How far out can it actually pick up targets? I always see coti at about that distance but I am used to getting targets at an infinite distance with my Armasite 640
>>65131884farthest I've gotten with my cheap 256px chynese thermal core was spotting a group of deer at about 300m through dense fog in outline mode. when you crank up the screen brightness in normal mode the thermal image pretty much takes over, so I guess you could achieve the same when using a more expensive sensor

>>65131915It's so weird how it moves around as your pvs 14 shakes but it is a great cross between both systems. I should take my duals bro into getting one. What duals you got?
>>65131922>It's so weird how it moves around as your pvs 14 shakesthe image latency is better on the more expensive cotis, but for a 3d print with aliexpress hardware I think it's perfectly servicable>What duals you got?argus 1431 with omni 7 tubes, fuji glas and a bcoti

>>65131989https://github.com/Jacob-OTW/BCOTI/tree/V2_Betacomes with links to all the parts. only the periscope lens is kind of obnoxious to procure
>>65132003Dope as fuck thanks for sharing. I'd love to try it side by side with my thermal and wee which one I prefer after a full night of hiking and shooting
>>65132025>>65130928I have a PVS14 Nocturn bridged with a Iray mh25v2 and it's an insanely tits setup, the duals are NECESSARY if you are doing any driving or ATV/UTV activities as a driver, you will fuck your shit up.
I do love a good single PVS14 setup though, brings me back to simpler times. A good PVS14 user will fuck up a badly trained duals user
>>65131944>bcotiI already own a coti, but don't want to shell out for another one. How easy was it to build out?
>>65132054I'm autistic when it comes to soldering so I spend way too much time checking cable lengths and part alignment, and it took me like an hour tops to get everything ready to shove into the housing. then another half an hour shimming the core and periscope to perfectly align the overlay with the tube.just don't do the same mistake I did and use the wrong type of usb cable. it needs to be usb-a to usb-c because of how the protocol works. else you end up spending 2 hours troubleshooting solder joints that were fine out of the box
>>65132042I can drive my truck on paved road without an issue and did during a blizzard last year as I found it to be safer than using headlights, but I can see the problems with off road stuff. Vidrel is my 2nd PVS14 which my wife lost somewhere in the house which is why I use a green one now
>>65132136Yeah, that's just great when other cars can't see your fucking car in the dark.
>>65132136>>65132080Found the video, I was out there for about 3 hours >>65132142 I just turn them on when I see headlights coming my way. I live in the country where traffic is minimal even when there isn't a blizzard in the middle of the night keeping everyone home.
>>65132188I love me a good PVS14. I got an L3 UWP and love a good, solid, quality PVS14. It's just a good, solid unit. *hits pipe*
>>65132188That's amazing, thanks for posting
picked up a iris4 mostly due to 4mr ranch's videos. For a under 800 (if you know where to look) you get an extremely nice VCEL illuminator, nice lasers that do not cause bloom, and an extremely usable white light. Not only that but the laser has built in override with a multi-button tape switch. Only thing I wish i could do is get a unity axon with 2x crane switches instead as I like the form factor of that over the switch that comes with the IRIS.
>>65132412The only thing keeping me from the iris is it looks cheap as fuck, and the ugly Holosun logo. It seems to perform better than any laser sub 2k in cost.
>>65132429Totally agree, hate the black finish. Putting ranger wrap on mine.
>>65132296Cheers m8 here's another for you from the same original vid. I like testing out my equipment in the shittiest weather that I can to see what it can actually do.
>>65132429>>65132434You don't rattlecan everything you get your hands on?
>>65132489id rather Ranger wrap or FDE option, a black only option doesn't make much sense

I FINALLY got my Chimeras last week. Nocturn Industries and Custom Night Vision probably has a sign posted that says "do not talk to this guy" after as much as I had been bugging them. #106 of supposedly just 150 in this form for the commercial market.I ordered just the housing. I gutted my current binos for 2 tubes, and added 2 more new ones. All L3 filmless, 2376-2383 fom, 0.3-0.5ebi, no registered spots. 22UA, 20UA, 2x 18UM.I made my own spanners to assemble this thing from some plastic door shims. Came with no manual or instructions. Took me about 1.5 hours to gut my binos and put this together. About another hour to set infinity stops and collimate the unit. Really not at all difficult!
I just got my first night vision optic, an old school an pvs2. It works and it’s cool. It’s one of the Israeli surplus units. One question is the radiation shielded on this or am I nuking my eye ball every time I use it?

>>65131884There's no better or worse, just trade offs. I think for someone used to duals, it would be pretty hard to switch to a mono and a dual-banded thermal. Likewise, if you are used to a dual banded 640, it might be quite hard to give that up for a COTI and duals. The thing with the coti is basically like duals, except know you have thermal on top. Dual band is more of it's own thing. Never try, you never know I guess. FWIW my furthest verifiable heat sig has been at 400m (jerry c pro) btw but I haven't gone out to test it's max capabilities. I personally went with the coti because not only did I already have duals but I prioritized speed/agility over sheer detection capability. I may get a dedicated thermal down the line to use handheld.
>>65134229It is nice enough that I would consider getting duals just for driving around if nothing else. Is there anywhere worth going to get a used set at a discount?
>>65133311ok, so you gotta explain it a bit more. These are panos? I have a Tanto and some duals but not familiar with this Chimeras. What makes this diff from the normal panos you see SOCOM running around with? >>65134229never used a COTI, have a thermal + pvs setup, what's the battery life vs a normal 640 thermal? I can run usb c with my thermal and run 24+ hours probably...
>>65130884What's a decent nods would you recommend for someone trying to get into night vision?
>>65133332That one of the ones from Whatacountry? I was thinking of getting one of those but settled for a Zeiss Fero Z51 since it was easier to mount to a rail, runs on standard ass C batteries and I can read kraut documentation easier than hava nagila.
>>65134827Any pvs14 gen3 with clean cubes or gen 2+duals with white phos
>>65134799for my BCOTI with a 3300mAh powerbank I get around 16h of runtime
>>65134827depends on your budget, sub 5k I would say a PVS14 in whatever housing you like with gen 3 WP tube,Over 5k? save up and catch a set of duals on sale with Photonis tubes or save longer and Elbit. Independence day has the best NV sales.
>>65134978>catch a set of duals on sale with Photonis tubesjust make sure you get it with warranty for when the psu inevitably shits itself
>>65134978Budget of 3500 for now. Decent setup for first nods. Already have a bump
>>65134983he said beginner, assuming he doesn't want to pay 8k+ for L3 tubes then he can be in the 5.5-7k price range. Actually more like 10-12k with L3 tubes and a good housing. Cool.
>>65135016the last thing I would recommend to a beginner is pooptonis tubes that may or may not shit the bed hard after a couple dozen hours of use. I simply don't trust these euro fucks and their shitty psu architectureget american gen3, any kind, as cheap as you can get. and you'll be fine
>>65135021Appreciate. PVS14 gen 3 seems like the most viable choice for beginners
>>65135330Omni tube for as low as $2k plus a cheap thermal is a powerful setup.
>>65135353WHERE IS IT? WHERE IS THE OMNI TUBE FOR 2K?
>>65135364Tacswap
>>65134847Yeah, I bought one of the battery adapters off of eBay. He only has like 4 more and will not be making anymore. They work great and are 20 bucks a pop. His are made from turned nylon and has a sticker that replicates the original markings. There are 3d printed files you can download but to use that one you need to make a mod to the doing so the battery can make contact with the shorter terminals of the modern battery. It works pretty good, I mean it’s dated and I would assume the modern units are way better, they are lighter with less bulk for sure and better resolution but this one has the retro cool factor. When it’s powered on it has a high pitch buzzing noise that just makes it go even harder mTo mount it, the thing uses a proprietary rail and slides on the side like a Ak optic. What a country does have an ar mount that bolts to the space inside the carry handle. If you have a flattop removable handle you can’t mount it. This will only work on the a1 and a2 setups. Once secured in place it holds it very well and has no movement. When fitted to the rifle, it is obviously left side heavy and wants to roll all the time. Even with the usgi bipod it rolls easy and can potentially fall over. Even with all of that it’s awesome and for the price they are selling them for is a steal because I’ve seen other pvs 2 go for 1100 so it’s a bargain while they last
>>65132003Is there a similar build, but as a standalone thermal without preexisting nods?
>>65135993https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYTnjKxunEQ
I've never messed around with nvgs, mostly because of the price and I don't know if I'll end up having fun with it. But I found some old polish nightvision binoculars which, as far as I can tell, are related closest to '50s tanker helmet mounted gen 0 binoculars.I don't really know anything about nvg stuff and I mostly want something I can walk around in the woods with and see if I can look at some critters. Is spending a $100 bucks on old binoculars, buying an IR illuminator and messing around with powering it off of a modern battery a good entry point to nvg related stuff? The thing has a NW-71 designation which seems to be pretty similar to tanker helmet mounted PNW-57. It needs an external light source but I really just want to see if I'll have fun trying to spot a beaver that's been pissing me off and stuff like that.
>>65136186Cheap thermal will do exactly what you want better and easier. Give that artifact to a historian for restoration. Most people benefit more from thermal, it's just the things you can do with night vision you can't do with anything else.
>>65136186I'd take gen 0s over nothing but barely. At least it would be a fun project
Elbits g2g?
>>65136186I mean sounds cool and rare, but if you want to get into nv for cheap just get one of theseeven gen 1 is better than digital IMO unless its a really expensive unit
