I have the 638 and a model 36. Both are great guns when you finally learn how to shoot them. That being said better options are out there.

I have a 442 which is basically the same only in black. It is a very challenging gun to shoot and I highly recommend swapping for a Model 60 grip so you aren't dangling your pinky off the bottom, it helps immensely.
Once you know how to shoot a DAO trigger, use the minimal gutter sights and manage recoil it'll deliver results.

The real issue is that you can get a wide variety of carry guns that aren't as nasty and difficult to shoot while being just as small or smaller with more firepower and a lower price tag. They are mostly going to be automatic pistols though, so you lose the advantage of having a gun that's more likely to fire all 5 shots while in a hand to hand tussle. An automatic will malfunction if pushed out of battery or have an obstructed ejection port, so you'll probably only get 1 shot in a situation like that.

It's basically the perfected snub .38, but these days there are better options out there. The 632 in .32 H&R gives you 6 shots instead of 5 at a comparable level of power but much higher cost. Or you could also get a Bodyguard 2.0 for a similar size gun that holds 10+1. But if you just want a snub revolver at a decent price, the 642 is a classic for a reason.

My wife carries a 642 in her purse.

On that note .327 Fed. Mag. makes a lot of sense in a snubbie. I don't know if S&W offers one but a Ruger LCR snub in that caliber does exist.

Thank you I do currently own the bodyguard 2.0 and a tarus revolver but I wanted to try my hands on a snub noses revolver

Stick to the BG 2.0, it's a genuinely excellent carry gun.

And that's how she >>65133256 was conned into buying it. Not even joking.

It's kind of spicy for an airweight, I'd go with an SP101 for .327

>>65133331
It is downwards compatible to 32 H&R Mag along with 32 S&W Long and 32 S&W.

Good pocket pistol as far as drawing from a pocket goes. I think the lack of beavertail compared to the semi autos helps a lot here. Quite painful to shoot though.

it's cool. Bought one to carry in my pocket in Cuckerado on a trip.

Hillary hole. Get the performance center version for an extra hundie

Its alright. Good cc for when you want to really get up close and personal. Good for small hands

Protips: get the crimson trace laser grip or paint the front sight post orange. Wad cutters only
>>
You guys think it is worth it to get the nicer sights?

I think this grip looks better.

No.
That grip looks somehow worse.
