People egregiously overspend on optics. Every shooter who goes to the range twice a month and tries to shoot a deer once a year thinks he needs $1500+ worth of glass to "make the most of his rifle". This is bullshit, unless you are in the field for days at a time, high humidity or sub zero, banging your firearm up, firing hundreds of rounds in between good opportunities to re-zero, making critical shots in early dawn or deep twilight, the $200 bushnell is perfect. Better than anything most soldiers in 20th century history had access to. Do not fall for the hype, spend your money on ammo.
>>65134234>I am poor see me copelol
>>65134234Scope cope as a crutch for poor marksmanship has existed for ever.>>65134256He's right in many ways. A $120 Monstrum is as good as any venerated '50s Lyman Alaskan.
>>65134234You are right but I also shoot precision an bench and have 1/8 MOA adjustments scopes for that reason.>>65134256NTA stop projectingMost hunting rifles are fine eith a 4x32
Yes, China won in the global lens manufacturing market in terms of price to performance. We already knew this.I say this as someone who buys exclusively Japanese-made camera lenses. Even I am not so prideful I will say conclusively that China is shit.
The problem with this cope is that for a little more than the bare minimum you can get really good optics that you can pass down to your children. A Sai6 for $750 is a fuckin steal, swfa makes some good robust budget shit, ect. Id rather spend a little more for something far better than the bare minimum. I also just like nice and cool scopes. They are fun to shoot with. I shot with ironsights and budget hunting optics almost excursively from age 8-25, I’m good on doing that ever again.
My $350 Element Helix is as good I'll ever need. Also I only buy one "good" scope and switch it around from gun to gun.
>>65134234I don't own any optics at all
>>65134315>Yes, China won in the global lens manufacturing market in terms of price to performance. We already knew this. They one for more than 2 reasons, but the top 2 are:They didn't have to invest in NRE, non recurring engineering. They paid thier labor "pennies on the dollar" to establish a foothold in the market.Literally, slave labor and no technical expertise. Frankly, the west also gave them the manufacturing and process experience they were decades behind in, to begin with.
>>65134371Based irons man or point shooter.
It's one of those things where if you have a lot of money, buying a nightforce or some shit isn't that painful. I do think people put too much weight into fancy scopes. I also think the modern minmaxxing shit is also a HUGE cause, that's made the gun world even shittier than it already was
>>65134256>I am a gear queer with >50% of my net worth held in guns and nevertheless mediocre target performance
>>65134403You have to have a lot of money and do a LOT of shooting to really make buying a $2000 optic instead of buying a $250 optic and dumping $1750 into your portfolio the less retarded decision, for 95% of people they are sacrificing security of their children/family's futures to LARP at being an epic precision shooter. Hardly manly
>>65134628$1,750 is not a lot of money, anon. And a scope or firearm will last the rest of your life while retaining value, unlike I car for example.
>>65134315>Yes, China won in the global lens manufacturing market in terms of price to performance. We already knew this.INPLESSIVE
>>65134628The retards here who live with their moms just tell you to stop being poor.
>>65134636>$1750 is not a lot of money>scopes are a good investment because I can sell them for roughly what I bought them forThese beliefs are why I have a lot (even by your own standards) more money than you.
>>65134636It's not a lot of money, but it's a hell of a lot of money for a scope. Some people's priorities don't necessarily revolve around buying expensive shit. That's like saying everyone that's not driving a Lamborghini is just a broke retard without good priorities. It's stupid. Blow the money if you want though. I'm still rocking my father's old Tasco from 1990 and no deer has ever got away because of the scope.
>>65134647It's true though. American made is simply just Mexican made anyway: Mexican quality, retarded American price
>>65134655I probably have an extra 10 years on you and have been maxing out my yearly Roth IRA while putting spare money in mutual funds since my 20s, so probably not actually. It's not like shooting lead at targets gives you a return on money, so this argument is just kind of stupid.
>>65134662Not him, but yeah you're locked into a retarded dick measuring contest. Anon buys his scopes then wonders why he has to eat Hamburger Helper every night
>>65134628Hey faggot you should try having a hobby and being a cool dad so your kids love you for more than the money you leave behind and maybe will be motivated to have kids of their own instead of trooning out or incelNEETmaxxing
>>65134687>being a cool dad so your kids love you>We're poor because daddy spends his money on scopes and that's a good thing
>>65134703Well obviously that isn't a good situation you fucking retard. Anon makes it sound like you need $10m liquid before you can buy anything nice for yourself.
Ask anyone on this board who inherited a cool family gun if they would rather have inherited an equivalent amount of railroad stocks bought at the same time.
>>65134703It could be worse, daddy could be spending his money on crack or angry juice.
>>65134752They can't imagine loving their dads, or having their children love them (or having children period), so kids thinking dad's guns are cool is laughable to them
>>65134752I think I could've understood more if my dad was using the money on drugs, booze, gambling, or women. Instead he was just a bad spender, like a male shopoholic. Fuck, get some drugs and at least feel good for more than the initial dopamine boost ffs.
The povertytard tendency to never even consider that one can get a nice optic *and* plenty of ammo will never not be funny
>>65134820Every single one of those recent ".22 Chads rise up" threads made me think the same thing. I already have a bunch of .22LR and .22WMR ammo complete with firearms, this in no way prevents me from building an AR.
>>65134845Well I've very much still going all in on .22s lately and understand where they're coming from but I'm still getting nice things for that.
>>65134845If you can afford to shoot x rounds of 5.56 you can afford to shoot 8x rounds of 22lr
>>65134920Even if the terminal ballistics aren't even comprable, .22 is about as fun to shoot as a BB or airgun. It just doesn't feel like a real firearm in my book. --unless it's a pistol. Actually, I should shoot my Uberti more.
>>65134907Recently I've considered getting one of those 10/22s that come with a Viridian scope for some fun paper blasting. I've also considered making one tacticool as all hell and stockpiling those doubled up stendo mags.>>65134920OK but what's the crossroads of range & power where .22LR defeats blue helmets?
>>65134907not sure what to call this setup anything except "safe"....
>>65134738Why are you unable to accept that it's okay for you two to have different financial priorities?
>>65134234What's bullshit is acting like the $1300+ difference in price between a cheap optic and a good one is worth worrying about. Yeah, if you're a student scraping by on a part-time job or you've got three kids you can barely afford to feed as is or you're dome idiot after to your eyes in credit card debt, then save your money but for most people in this country, the cost of a couple of nice optics will not materially impact their life in any way.
>>65135343Even if you're poor, you can get a chink optic with jap glass for like $500. If you're too poor to afford that, you're too poor to afford guns as a hobby.
You're all sick people. I hope you all get cancer. Fuck youse all. I put a curse upon you all. Fuck ya mudda
>>65135347A lot of this is millennials developing boomerbrain due to all the rapid inflation in their lifetimes. It's "these kids don't understand the value of a dollar, back in my day you could buy a burger with a quarter" kind of dissonance. $100 is the new $20 and they will always be 5 years behind the curve mentally. For example a lot of people are just catching up to covid prices now if they are estimating how much a rifle or some glass costs to buy new, meanwhile real prices are higher still.
>>6513493322s and airguns are like archery in which the shooting itself isn't that fun, what is fun is hitting things and being accurate.
>>65135772You don't like just drawing arrows and letting them fly? I always thought it would have been fun to be in an archery division just blasting walls of arrows at the enemy without really aiming too much
>>65135781No, just shooting arrows gets boring quick. But hitting the target is addicting :^)
>>65134234What people criticize in glass quality is irrelevant until doing actual long range PRC shit. And even then it's marginal.>>65135343>$1300+ difference in price between a cheap optic and a good onACOG maxxing time.
