Used to be the sticky picture for a long time. My question is, do we have any pictures of the impact of these bad boys? I'm wondering how big of a boom these made back in the day

The seacoast 13" mortar is some serious shit, I think they threw a weight of about 200lb about a mile and a half or so

The fact that a simple OP picture couldn't be restored after the site got hacked shows and proves that the board (and site) is run by petty tyrannical retards.

clash of clans aaah type weapon

i always thought the ammunition was filled with gun powder ... didn't realize they were just simply hauling metal balls

this shit does nothing

Oh they changed the sticky? Didn't notice lmao.

Oh they're full of blackpowder with some kind of fuse, the charge weight of the gun is also about 20-25lb of blackpowder alone
Some of them they also used to use on barges and ships for rolling up on rivers or coastlines and pounding the shit out of towns, cities and forts. They also managed a fairly crazy rate of fire out of them too. Hundreds of shots a day just from one

Can't comment on the 13 inch mortar, but here's a shell from a 10 inch mortar

Pavlov looks suspiciously Jewish, he's probably the one running all the Hasbara threads and deleting any criticism of Pissrael on /k/.

Solid shot was history at the time of the civil war, most artillery munition had explosive charges. These mortars fired massive shells, 200-220 Ibs, with 20Ibs of blackpowder, they had fuses to time the explosion. They also took around 10-20 seconds to land, and descended almost vertically, which meant two things; horrible accuracy and a severe psychological effect on the receiving end. You'd hear the report of the gun, and there would be an interval long enough for you to consider the consequences before the shell came down. Mortars probably did more to diminish the effectiveness of fortifications and earthworks than any other artillery weapon in the war, dirt-based earthworks quickly emerged as the best and most foolproof defensive solution in the war in the wake of heavy rifles diminishing the effectiveness of concrete fortifications, mortars rendered those obsolete by lobbing shells over earthworks, which meant a defensive network without a big tunnel system was largely useless, but even then heavy mortar shells could collapse an underground tunnel system, which meant constant maintenance and rebuilding was mandatory. The rocking explosions also had a severe psychological effect on defenders even when they are safe underground.

Not quite. Solid shot was the preferred ammunition for battering fortifications and penetrating ironclads. (Pictured: A 10 inch Confederate solid shot recovered from Spanish Fort, Alabama)
