>>65144785Using Z, V and O is more legible from afar and, what is even more important, is deliberately non-standard, compared to regular army markings (both ukie and ruslim), that's the main reason. They were trying to avoid confusing their own vehicles with AFU ones due to the usage of similar armor and such. Same reason why they had to drag white stripes on soviet armor during the 1968 operation in Czechoslovakia: needed something to differentiate your own forces against the enemy with the same tanks. AFAIK that was a lesson from the punitive army operation against Hungary in 1956, where the russians fucked up a ton of their own forces, thinking that they were hungarian.
