were these kind of "accidents" common?
>>
>>65142546
i know they had an interrupter for the front facing guns to not hit propellers idk about the back

>hollywood
i'm guessing no tho
>>
at the beginning, maybe yes
>>
>>65142581
its funny what they did before they figured out interrupters.
first they just let the bullets hit the propeller
then they put a metal guard on the propeller, but that created a lot of shrapnel and blinded piolets
then zee Germans figured out how to make some levers and hinges
>>
>>65142546
idk this looks fake look at the greenscreen
>>
>>65142712
It was still a bluescreen at the time.
>>
>>65142621
Then within like 3 months of inventing it they crashed their expensive piece of cutting edge tech over france, who immediately simplified and copied it

>branaddled swipeaddicted zoomers who cant tell the difference between chroma keying and rear projection despite the glaring obviousness of it argue with each other
Where does the hubris come from though? I'd be so God damn embarrassed I'd kill myself.
>>
The rotating turret also had a mechanism that would stop firing depending on the angle.
>>
>>65142546
I'm more interested why a german biplane would have a villar perosa as the tail gun.
>>
>>65142546
literally impossible for this to happen
>>
>>65142992
Not to mention that German airships did not carry any planes. especially not the ones of that time, since they were pure passenger ships.

False
It was possible during ww1 and early stages of ww2 planes

>very possible
The surround in pic is there to stop you shooting your own aircraft.

not every plane with a rear gun had tabo[sic] arms.

The impulsive thoughts always won back when I played IL-2

>"accidents"
Are you implying gunners would shoot their own aircraft on purpose?

Can you actually survive this with that shitty machine gun?
>>

Just a bit of cheeky banter

That's a bad angle but why not.
One and done.

>back to base and spend a few days getting laid instead of being out here getting shot at
they kept woman on base? who were they getting laid by? each other? were pilots and gunners practicing the greek way where one would gently lay pipe into the other's bussy in the night in their hot, non-air conditioned barracks?
>>
>>65142546
This part of the movie is funny.

No shit, retard. Read about the history of the tank or the bazooka/panzershreck.

I'd think overspray would be a problem.

.50 cal slugs would be good for at least a mile and you can't tell me guys were able to figure WTF arc their slugs were flying a mile or more away through a big stack of bombers miles long, and I'd bet even a falling "spent" .50cal slug would cut through alum-skin and do damage to man and machine.
>>
>>65145940
There are documented cases or at least testimony of gunners trying to kill German fighters and later realizing they had hit allied bombers.
They trained to avoid it, but there was no physical stop and when you are trying to stop a fighter from killing you, background probably disappears.

There was also Foster mounts. Which sucked. The upper wing was kinda flexible so the recoil would shake the gun and kill your accuracy. Accuracy that was questionable to begin with because you couldn't aim down the barrels and aircraft gunsights were pretty shit in this era. Of course, that was secondary to the reloading issue where the pilot had to Stand Up in the cockpit, Letting Go of the Controls so he could unlock and pull down the guns into a reloading position.

Needless to say, Foster Mounts basically disappeared once Interrupter Gears was available.

Honestly, I don't think many victims noticed since they were being hit by German 20mm at the time.
