are red beams pointless? i want one i think they look cool
>>65146397Why would a robot with internal sensors need laser aim assistance or any sort of sight in the first place?
>>65146411because the metaphor of being in the literal sights of the enemy is too strong to resist
>>65146414But he has red eyes already.
>>65146411rule of cool + laser sights being futuristic at the time
>>65146397I have a green laser on my AR because I'm RG color blind and can barely see my green red dot on light surface due to my RG color deficiency. That, and my buddy who did some contract shit said it helps with quick target acquisition, and I'd have to say he's definitely on to something. >inb4 a laser let's the other guy know you're thereSo will the multiple shots going straight into his chest cavity. When SHTF, you're not going to be doing Delta tier operating. It'll be a mix between Ukrainian operating for the country bumpkins, and Gaza/Sarajevo with flying IEDs for those of us who live in the cities.
>>65146416and she had a bug red dot on her forehead…SUSPENSE!!
>>65146414If I were some sort movie literacy cocksucker, I would make the argument that a red laser sight is foreshadowing for the audience in seeing Terminators have red eyes later in the film.
>>65146397
>>65146397They are not pointless. You can use a red beam to employ your EoF protocol. If you want an area clear, and it's night time, so that you can't be readily seen, a red laser serves as an almost universal warning that they are about to be targeted. Thanks to Hollywood films, this is something you can use today. How useful this is in the civilian world is not for me to say, but I'm sure the visible laser could be employed in de-escalation in very limited circumstances.
>>65146411Redundancy.>aim twice, shoot once
>>65146397Not pointless but an obsolescent evolutionary dead end. Do they work? Yeah. But it turns out unless you are point shooting which really isn't done anymore, having that red dot on your optic is just as good and also doesn't let your target know they're about to get shot. I think they occupied a niche in the period when we knew we could improve from iron sights but hadn't figured out proper holos/red dots yet. They make more sense on handguns as well (see above). But looking at handgun shootings, I think either you'd be on target anyways due to close proximity, or the people who wildly miss would wildly miss anyways due to stress without checking for laser alignment. Outside of battery life not much you can improve on anyways, and the LAMs for infrared and military use are arguably important so the concept isnt useless, it's just that red dots and modern optics do everything a laser does but better.
>>65146397I dunno but it feels tactical as fuck to draw with the beam on and Mozambique some cardboard, so the morale boost is pretty worthwhile
>>65147777In my head, the laser is almost a comfort device for the terminators. When he asks the gun store clerk for the 40w laser rifle and gets told no, it implies some sort of familiarity with future tech. It may be that the skynet bots are used to coordinating fire based on laser designation since that feels more like how a robot would operate IE 'see laser on object, pull trigger and bullet go where laser point.' Obviously yeah its for dramatic effect but I feel like you could autism your way into a justification regarding the internal targeting protocols and why a laser sight is used when available.
Why did an advanced killing machine specialized in terminating human beings slowly take out its gun and slowly aim it at its target instead of just being super quick like and filling her full of lead or just running up to her and snapping her neck or something?
>>65146411Because he stole it from the store. It was irrelevant to him if it was on or off.
>>65147806>When he asks the gun store clerk for the 40w laser rifle and gets told no, it implies some sort of familiarity with future techIt was the only thing the tinskin knew could kill it. It was checking out to see how much of a threat a normal human could be.
Lasers are great. There’s a lot of subpar ones out there though. A lot of people will say they’re pointless, but they’re poor people who’ve never used them.
>>65146397they're nice to have, but shouldn't be the primary way you aim. decent at night, but you should have a light as well at that point.
>>65146397Even that big fuck-off tube was too small to house the electronics needed for a laser in those days, they had to run cables through his jacket and up his sleeve to make that thing work. Kinda crazy how laser sights went from sci-fi tech that couldn't exist outside movie magic to cheap as dirt affordable to anyone well within the span of arnolds lifetime
>>65146397They're actually pointfull
>>65147777Checked
>>65147809Because the film needs to happen. If Skynet wasn't fucking around it would have just fed up a spare human to current US standards and jammed a nuke up its arsehole before the time machine trip.
>>65147777quads
>>65146426Get a prism or the holosun gold reticle bro. It's a game changer for people like us.
>>65147799>But it turns out unless you are point shooting which really isn't done anymoreWhich is a mistake btw
>>65147799Having played a lot of VR, lasers make a lot of sense for unconventional shooting. You're not always looking down the sight of your gun perfectly on target and it helps a lot when something jumps around a corner and you can't locate your reticle or iron sights picture or when you can see your target and point a weapon but don't have the physical space to bring it up to aim. It's definitely faster than trying to find the dot in your glass.
>>65146397no they are badass you should buy one
>>65147870It went even further than that, into whole other spectrum of light so people in pitch darkness wouldn't even know if they got tagged or not with a sneaky guy using night vision This is before we even get to the flying exploding robot drones playing murder in the dark and hunting people with thermal cameras mounted on them the size of a packet of matches for a hundred bucks. Suddenly the horse cock sized laser seems almost as antiquated as a rowboat
