Continuing the discussion of cooking, rations, and food in general from last thread.
I guess it goes without saying that if you haven't watched / read Dungeon Meshi, you should do so.
>>65154055Canned beans, dried onions, garlic powder, and maybe a little salt/pepper makes a reasonably palatable, cheap, and filling if gassy slop for rice or noodles. I'd usually recommend buying the huge bags of rice from the Asian supermarket for maximum cheapness, but you said your back is fucked so you shouldn't lift those. You also need to wash that rice, Asian rice isn't given the usual wash/enrich American rice is.Also invest in a big bottle of complete multivitamins. If you can't eat a complete meal for a while, at least you won't get scurvy from it.
My furaido poteito + whatever will be ready soon. This time it's potato, onions, corn maize, a bit of brown beans, taco beef and cheddar cheese. I didn't have sweet peppers...If you're poverty maxxing or just stingy, remember to use your left over pickle juice. I often use vinegar so that my pan slop will soak in the vinegar steam. You can use pickle juice for this if you think that the flavors will blend will. Pickle juice is very tasty mixed into tomato sauce.
>>65154088degreasing the pan with an alcahol or vinegar is not only good for cleaning the pan, but it also yields an additional sauce to go with whatever slop you madeit's perfectI personally love deglazing with honey wine (mead)
I uh. I dont know how to cook
Damn, now I feel like some classic Eastern European style crepes. Stupid easy desert, literally just flour, milk, egg, maybe a few spices if you feel like it, then rub whatever you want in them (I like greek yogurt+jam, peanut butter+jam is also a good option). You know, I'm kinda curious what would happen if you used kefir instead of normal milk, it wouldn't really rise without baking soda obviously but would the taste or texture change significantly? Might try it.

Someone told me I'm not supposed to be cleaning my cast iron stuff with dish soap. Is this true?
for my sous vide steak brosI must wholeheartedly reccomend forward searing over reverse searing>buy steak>pat it dry to get any moisture you can with a paper towel>salt it >leave it in the fridge for a day>now it's very cold and very dry, making for an amazing sear>because it's cold you get a better sear without overcooking it>let it rest in the fridge or with a fan blowing at it to stop the cooking process as fast as possible>sous vide at like 128F for 2 hours>you can put whatever herbs and spices you want in the bag without having to worry about burning them during the sear like you would with a reverse sear>(personally Im fond of the classic fresh thyme, rosemary, garlic, and black pepper)>take out of bag and dig in*chef's kiss*this shit is literally perfect>>65154124I'm not fucking around here>>65154129ask the cowboyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5NbQwzwUTwI personally use a tiny bit of soap and hot water and a dedicated cast-iron cleaning scubber (which is basically a rubber pad covered in aluminum keychain rings)but the soap isn't really necessary unless stuff is burned onto the panAND ALWAYS REMEMBER TO REGREASE AFTER CLEANING dry it in the oven
>>65154129that is the oldschool wisdom, yes.

>>65154140>I personally use a tiny bit of soap and hot water and a dedicated cast-iron cleaning scubber (which is basically a rubber pad covered in aluminum keychain rings)ah ok. That's what I already do
>>65154157don't worry, I think that's all of them.
>>65154129I think that's an old carry over from when dish soap used to be super aggressive lye based, most modern detergents are way easier on dishes.
Quick tip: Cooking parchment paper lining air fryer baskets (with punched holes) or convection oven pans makes for insanely easy cleanup. Just throw away the lining and give the pan a quick scrub/rinse, since if you lined it right any grease is on the other side of the waterproof paper.Perfect for quick tendies and fries nights.
>>65154175You can also use silicon inserts and just chuck them in the dishwasher.

>My simple question on what you guys eat turned into an entire /c/k/ discussion I’ve been wanting one of these for a while I feel so glad
If you want a cheap breakfast dish but don’t want oatmeal I recommend risgrøt. Super easy porridge to make. Just needs rice, water, milk, and cinnamon/sugar/butter to top with
>>65154129Nope, it’s perfectly fine to use modern soap on modern cast iron pans. I only clean mine with soap when they are heavily used though. >>65154185Same, finding the time and energy to cook as an autist with a full time job is hard
>>65154067Somebody tried taking a bite out of that roast birb, and got a drubbin'
Sometimes I just mix a bit of flour and water together to make a dough then roll it thin. I then fry it in oil and cover it in butter and honey. Makes a good snackIf you want easy cobbler, use 4 cups of your preferred fruit (like blueberries) and place them in a greased baking dish. Mix lemon lime soda with 3/4 a bag of vanilla cake mix to make a batter and pour gobs of it on the fruit. Cover in slices of butter and sugar then in the oven for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

>>65154205>>65154212Can confirm, cooking (good) food is guaranteed pussy as long as you don't stuff her. My go to is a small 3-4oz ground wagyu burger patty with half a small to medium loaded baked potato. Put on some shitty true crime show for an hour to let it settle and then take her to plap town.

>>65154312Gib me ATF agent tiddy plz
>>65154100tried the kefir crepes, just a tiny hint of the tanginess of the kefir comes through if you're really looking for it, otherwise they're just like normal crepes.Basically, don't bother with kefir for anything that doesn't also include baking soda, it's a negligible difference.
