Is stainless steel barrel even worth the additional price if I’m just a moose hunter who doesn’t shoot that much? The improved accuracy and rust resistance doesn’t seem that important to me, but then again it could be nice and the shorter barrel longevity may be less of an issue because of my infrequent firing. Right now, im debating on the tikka t3x hunter stainless steel or the tikka t3x hunter with the regular cold hammered steel barrel.
>>65154079How much extra is the stainless barrel? Pretty much no point if you aren't camping with your guns
>>65154084It would be around an extra 200, most stainless steel models are around 1650 while the regular is around 1450 (in Canadian dollars).
Stainless is superior aesthetically and that's really the only reason to choose it. But in the case of the T3x, which is turboslop, it doesn't matter and you can buy what you want.
>>65154079OP, how deep in are you already? If it's like 50-100 bucks fuck it go for it
>>65154116Well, what 308 or 30-06 would you personally recommend under the 2000 CAD range? I want a solid, reliable and effective rifle but can’t break the bank too much. I decided on the tikka t3x hunter after watching some direct performance comparison experiment between savage, tikka and bergara, and also reading reviews online. I guess another option would be howa but idk how much faith I have in modern Japanese rifles.
>>65154123It’s an extra 200, which seems somewhat reasonable I suppose. The only real downside is the shorter life on the barrel/rifling but it’s not like I’m gonna be shooting more than 50-100 rounds a year anyway.
>>65154133if you are worried about a 200 price difference you were never going to afford the ammo for it to actually matter. unless you live in the ocean, lake or swamp it doesn't matter
>>65154130He just means it's a basic rifle that doesn't tickle his faggot gun fetish>>65154138>durr if you care about getting value for your money that means you were always too poorA lot of retarded faggots in this thread
>>65154133Im frugal minded, not poor. I like to spend as little as possible while maximizing value. I don’t mind spending nearly 2k on a good hunting rifle if it lasts me a life time and I get good use out of it. If I don’t have to spend an additional 200 because im not getting any real additional value out of it, why would I not factor this into the decision? Im thinking I should just go with the regular model because right now, I don’t think the stainless steel is offering much of a benefit. Im actually buying this rifle because I just bought myself a new thermal scope, and right now all I have is a cheap savage axis 2 30-06
>>65154154Whoops this was meant for you>>65154138
>>65154152>>65154158ah you dont get it.the reason you want a stainless barrel is generally they are made to higher accuracy standards. then theres the rust resistance component. and the downside is you shoot out the rifling faster. though it isnt a gradual thing its more its there and now it isnt. like 1-4k fine 4+ now its 4 moa.(this is an estimate that changes based on caliber) though psa sorta ruined the concept of if its stainless its going to be more accurate by flooding the market with garbage.if this dudes poor hes never getting close to shooting out the rifling.which means it comes down to rust resistance.
OP, this is what I would do, as a poorfag. If what matters most to you is maximizing value at a good cost, I would suggest the stainless barrel since you're going to own it the rest of your life; the extra $200 won't matter. Stainless steel isn't truly rustproof, but it ain't a meme either. If the benefit of the stainless barrel or the additional cosmetic touch means nothing at all, then I suppose dumping that extra $200 into a solid scope...or even shit like a good sling, some ammo. There really isn't a bad choice, and anon, I think you already know what you're going to do
>>65154207Oh my bad anon I agree
