I'm at a loss, so I come to you /k/. For the life of me I cannot determine what kind of low profile armor carrier this guy is wearing. I've had this image for an eternity and it's become a mystery I need to solve.

Apparently there exists some kind of experimental DARPA carrier with the external plate pouch, but it's not exact. I also feel like it's becoming harder and harder to research gear because AI suggestions for airsoft vests and eBay listings make up 80% of my search results.

Ikwym. Not just AI, another factor is that a lot of references to gear only existed in print catalogs and on early websites that nobody cared to save, so unless somebody scans in said catalogs or the companies (if they even still exist) maintain listings for products they no longer produce, that info is gone. Like gear from the 80s and 90s is pretty well documented, and modern gear is obsessively documented and nitpicked, but there's this dead zone of the early to late 2000s that's just gone. For example Blackwater and Diamondback plate carriers were both extremely popular in the mid 2000s, but now the only evidence they existed is old ebay listings.

I miss the days of when the coolest kit you could have was a tan chest rig and some Oakley gloves.
