I have been thinking about getting a turkish cheapo gun such as SAR, or Canik. What is the consensus on them? Are they reliable or are they a POS. They cost about $500USD where I live (Glock 19 gen 5 costs 1000$).
>>
>>65159630
I have a Canik TP9 that I got to check them out and it turned into a bedside gun. Shoots great, handles great, cheap enough to not worry about. Even with the cheaper plastic trigger it's a good shooter.

I've sniffed around SAR but never got one. They seem mediocre by comparison. The SAR-9 feels remarkably cheap. It's a massive upgrade over a Hi-Point of course, but isn't giving you anything other than a low price when compared to the Canik and it's not much cheaper than that.
Their B6P has been particularly interesting since it's a very affordable polymer framed CZ/Tanfoglio clone, but I'm glad I handled one before buying. The plastic frame feels downright terrible which I gradually discovered isn't their fault. This type of pistol is widely cloned from the Philippines all the way to Israel and all of them feel awful compared to a metal framed CZ.

Palmetto State Armory Dagger 9mm pistol
Pro - They took a G19 and shaved off $250, made it fit a human hand
Con - Your ego in a pissing contest
>>
>>65159626
Palmetto State Armory AR-15/ M4-ish
Pro - It works well and doesn't break, costs about $400 new
Con - You're not an operator, so there are none

They also make lots of good ammunition.

Why would anyone buy a hipoint when there are options such as the dagger
>>
>>65159738
Availability and video games, I'd imagine. Never had that problem myself.
>>
>>65159738
They are cheaper and have earned a reputation for being decent despite their price. Really it's the absolute worst/cheapest handgun that I could recommend with a clean conscience.

Now that there are so many budget options out there the difference between a C9 and a Taurus G3 or a decent Turk 9mm is less than $50. For somebody who is TRULY destitute 50 bucks can make a difference, but most people aren't actually that poor. They are cheap and hoping/coping that the $50 cheaper Hi-Point isn't that far behind, which it absolutely is.

If it was ~2016 then sure, get a Hi-Point but before that you had tons of great surplus pistols for comparable money and today you have Turkish/Brazilian imports mogging it.
>>
>>65159732
Addendum - Looks like the price has gone up since I got mine, so here's what you do:
> Go here: https://palmettostatearmory.com/ar-15/rifles.html
> Search "BLEM" (Blemish - a visual defect), Closeouts, and Daily Deals
> Save up and get an upper (receiver group) with bolt carrier group and charging handle included
> Save up and get a lower (receiver group). If you have any questions about if they'll work together, ask the Help Center
> Put the Upper and Lower together with 2 captive pins
> Profit

Also look and see if they have any combo deals going - guns and ammo, guns and magazines, pistol and carbine combos, guns and slings, lights, sights, etc

Now you have a good gun with all the stuff you need and you can still get gas and groceries. Only way these are going to break is if you fuck around with "upgrading" parts that don't need fixing anyway.
>>
>>65159757
Probably the only reason today to get a Hi-Point is that you want the cheapest 10mm gun you can get since most of them are around 650usd msrp.

The Sar 9 usually on gun deals goes for 200$ish and the Canik Tp9 goes for 300$sh also sarsmilaz makes higher end versions of the Sar 9 also does Canik as well also I should state that the Sar 9 is the official handgun of the Turkish military

I have a late-model Sar CM9. I like it.
The plastic of the frame is too thin at the front, at the accessory rail. I can flex it too easily by squeezing it.
The sights it came with can't be adjusted for elevation, only windage, and the elevation seems zeroed in that aim-one-dot-above-the-top-of-the-sights way. Not a big fan of that.
The trigger return spring broke and I had to replace it. To be fair, I was dry firing the fuck out of it, it's the first double-action hammer-fired pistol I got and it was a lot of fun not having to rack the slide to shoot again like with most strikers.
Other than that, it's been an excellent gun. Trigger feels good, nice and light in single action, very accurate once I mentally adjust for the elevation. Hundreds of rounds through it without a single issue at the range. Relevant to being poor: I slapped a cheap amazon laser on it, not even caring if it held zero because I just wanted it to let me see how my aim jittered as I pulled the heavy double action. My precision with my striker-fired guns at the range has tightened up a lot since I started doing this.

>Palmetto State Armory AR-15/ M4-ish
A question about cheap AR's: Do aftermarket, upgraded AR accessories, like rails, BCGs, triggers, grips, handguards, etc. fit on even cheap ARs? Could you buy the cheapest AR you can find, and if you ever need to, you can pop on a new stock, new BCG and whatnot and you'd have a high(er) end AR?
>>
>>65162684
If they are to-spec ARs, generally, yeah, it's all interchangeable. If you're getting something cheap enough it's not to spec, or from a company with some faggot "original" modifications you may have difficulty.
>>
>>65162684
Depends on the AR, most if not damn near all AR15s have interchangeable parts as long as it's not some proprietary shit.
AR10s are a different story
>>
>>65162684
>>65162877
>>65162884
Then why not start with the least-expensive decent-quality AR you can afford, and upgrade it if you find you need to?
>>
>>65162684
Yes. There are weird proprietary pieces, but that is largely a thing of the past. PSA was basically the final nail in the coffin for that bullshit, as they killed off all the shit factories still pumping it out. Things to look out for:
>commercial spec buffer tube
This will only fit commercial spec stocks. It basically doesn't exist anymore.
>semi-auto BCG
barely even a problem, basically only a Colt and other boomer brands thing
>sear blocks
basically only a thing on Colt yet again
>non-standard trigger pins
Once again a Colt thing, also basically doesn't exist anymore

Nearly anything you buy from any brand nowadays is going to be standard milspec parts, unless you go out of your way to find something else.
>>
>>65163445
I'm not a poorfag, I'll give my take:
>quality control
I'm not interested in dealing with warranty or customer support. My time is worth more than that. Cheap guns often have problems.
>features
Higher end brands often have things sold as a complete package you can't get elsewhere. (KAC)

In addition not everything sold by the same brand is the exact same thing. PSA FN barrels in the past had unfinished chambers, which causes major issues with steel case (lol who even has that anymore), and suppressors (still a problem). FN barrels in FN guns don't have this problem. This is likely because PSA was making the chambers.
>tools
Changing parts requires you to not be retarded, and own tools. Also a lot of the cheap brands (PSA) employ actual retards who ignore torque specs and install parts incorrectly. Just search 'PSA barrel nut seized' and you will find hundreds of people who thought "I'll just change my PSA barrel!" and discovered it was not going to be nearly as easy as it should have been.

I would say you're probably better off buying a cheap PSA to learn what you want to change (if anything) and then build your own complete gun from scratch using parts you research and buy on sale.

RE: handguns don't get a cheapo tier brand new.
Seek the pre-owned market for an actual good handgun at a bargain price. Beretta Px4, SIG Pro / SP2022, HK USP, P2000 can be found at bargain prices if you are patient and look around online or at local firearm retailer.
Do a budget mid-length AR build, or get an SKS
Again when looking for rifles seek the pre-owned market or build your own from parts. It's possible to find good deals on pre-owned budget brand (or build) ARs that people have pawned off as never fired or barely used.
>>
Reminder that if you do a bit of searching you can find Police trade-in G22s for sub-300, and they can be converted to .357 SIG and 9x19 with barrels/recoil spring and mag for 9mm
>>
>>65163838
If buying new/used doesn't make a difference to you then you can get a used LCP max for like $200
>>
>>65163838
that's nifty

As long as the materials are good and everything is in-spec, "good enough" actually is plenty good enough. So basically yes

>eating instant noodles to afford ammo
I have such a wealth of knowledge in this area.
I have consumed SO MANY different kinds of noods.
If I have one recommendation for anyone similarly culinarily inclined and fiscally challenged, it would be to grab a few cases of Indomie Mi Goreng noodles on Amazon, you can get a case of 30 for $23.
It's the best cheap "base" for variety, because they include three different kinds of sauces in the packet, as well as the base seasoning pack.
You can of course just use all the ingredients at once, which is the preferred and intended method, but I've found that it's better to use two or three of the same type of sauce per noodle brick if you're going to be consuming them regularly and also long term, because it gives you a variety instead of it being the same every day.
Additionally you can get 12 pack cans of spam for around $40 if you look for them, each can is six servings of ~150-160 calories, is EXCELLENT to store long term, and you can get spam in like ten different flavors.
You can chop spam up into little cubes, slice and fry it with an egg, cut it into hotdog-like sizes, all kinds of stuff.

You eat two things of indomie, two eggs, and a can of spam and it will keep you alive for between $5 and $6 a day. Drop the eggs or swap them out for bulk unflavored protein powder and you don't even need a fridge to store anything.
Also keep in mind your blood pressure will probably suffer from this diet.

How dangerous actually is turkshit? Which weapon brands are "might occasionally jam more often than american stuff" bad and which brands are "made of pot metal and will eventually explode in your hand" bad? Canik seems interesting
