>as you can see from this table, the IS2 122mm could easily destroy a M1A2 Abrams at a distance of 3000 meters
>>65160269>implying it could even get the round close to it.
>>65160269>ook ook write that down! Begin mass production! Berlin in two weeks xaxaxaxaxa!
>>65160269>"slavboo">claims the best tank the soviets fielded was the ShermanI dont think that word means what you think it means.
>>65160269Could it, though?
>>65161777absolutely if it got a shot on the side or rear or a 1/100000 shot into a frontal pixel weakspot. It would never hit a moving tank at that distance though.
>>65161777if all the stars aligned, sure
>>65161777A M8 Greyhound took out a Tiger II during BotB. A Churchill with a 2pdr took out a Tiger in Africa. Lucky shots happen.
>>65161777Ignoring the question of actually hitting anything at that range (not likely, but technically possible)... According to the Soviets, at 3000 meters using the best ammo available at the time and with a perfect 90 degree hit it had an approximate RHA pen of 105mm. The Abrams total armor is classified but at its weakest point the hull is 101mm thick, and made from modern steel not whatever the Soviets had to hand to test with in 1943. So while not quite utterly impossible it would be a one in a million shot, not 'easily'.
Did the IS2 ever get retrofitted with laser rangefinding? Lab conditions don't mean shit if we're talking about effectively WW2 tanks vs modern tanks that have cameras all over the place and computers that aim the guns for you. Its like saying a Mig-29 can kill an F-35 because the R series of missiles could damage an F-35 if it hits the right spot. Most duels are dependent on the skill set of the individuals involved and whoever has the most tools to get the first shot off more often will win.
>>65160269There's no way it could score a direct hit at that range but if it did a 122mm HE shell would at least mission kill any modern tank at minimum, and that's lowballing it.

>>65160269Blursed IS-2
>>65161777>Could it, though?Assume modern FCS and 122 mm HESH it would have a chance of disabling it by hitting the front turret and damage it enough that gun and gunsight points in different directions. OFC the M1A2 firing back would one shot the IS2 at 3000 meters.
this guy literally said that Russian tank gunsights were the best in the world and that Zeiss optics on German tanks were bad and a complete myth that they were good
>>65162930Did he really? Jesus christ that's some cope. Ehat were his justifications
>>65161869>an m8 took out a tiger 2Nah, never happened. They didn't even claim it was a tiger 2 in the original report, it's just been inflated over the years. More than likely it was a late model pz4 or maybe a panther
Even if a hit doesn't penetrate, the internal crew and equipment will be shaken by the impact, rendering them unable to retaliate—this must have happened with IS tanks during the war. This was especially true with the 122mm gun, which had a lower rate of fire. In fact, the Red Army's main anti-tank combat vehicles were equipped with the well-balanced 85mm gun.
