My grandfather had this. Is it a weapon or is it a fishing spear? Where from? The bottom has space for a shaft making it a spear.
>>65162616looks like a wailing harpoon
>>65162621Looks like a shepherds hook. All the healing spears I'm seeing are way longer which makes sense considering how thick whales are. You'd be into the shaft of the spear very quickly with minimal flexibility so I don't think it's a whale spear tbqhwy.
>>65162616>>65162621>>65162644Far too short for a harpoon (though the head is the right shape) and I can't imagine a shepherd using a crook made that sharply. I suspect it's probably the head of a polespear for large game fish (swordfish, tuna, and the like). Possibly homemade or locally made? It doesn't really match anything used historically but in function it'd probably be close enough to the head of modern spears used for that purpose.
>>65162616looks like some local crafts curio, did he ever travel around africa or asia (or is he from there)?
Wait a minute...
>>651627432nding this. I don't think it's a real harpoon because there's no reason for the barb to be sharp. In fact, a sharp barb is counterproductive. Might be some kind of tourist trinket. If it is some kind of harpoon it's something made by an amateur who didn't really know what they were doing.
>>65162846Now that I think about it, maybe it's some kind of gaff hook rather than a harpoon. That would explain the barb and the short length.
>>65163000That's ok, we all make a gaff now and then.

>>65162616Could be a flensing tool for whaling. The back hook is used to hold back / lift sheets of blubber. There's not really a terribly good reason to make it of bronze, though, aside from saltwater corrosion resistance.
>>65162616>fishing spear?Yes, but not a real one. It looks like a tourist item, I'm guessing Hawaiian.
>>65162616That's the shape of a Polynesian fishing spear, but those are almost always made out of wood or bone. Bronze isn't really a thing they used for tools, it's probably tourist kitsch.
it's probably a vintage buoy hook, chain grabber, or some other maritime gubbin
