Whoever signed off on EA-18Gs instead of F/A-18s is going to get shitcanned.There is zero reason to fly EA-18Gs which are literally irreplaceable EW nodes for the navy that they NEED until F/A-XX is ready. As far as airshow observers are concerned, there is zero difference between an EA-18G and an F/A-18. But as far as the navy is concerned, they just lost 1.2% of their total EA-18G fleet in one afternoon. Meanwhile, had two F/A-18s crashed, it would've been ~0.25% of the F/A-18 fleet.
On the plus side they're still making Growlers so it's not like irreplacable historical artifacts slamming into each other.
