Remember the OICW? Do you think it has any merit?
The idea isn't a bad one but its specific niche has been filled better by drones.
>>65164666No Satan.
>>65164685Both the idea and exection was retarded. The M203 still rules
I remember always wanting it when I played Tactical Ops on my cousin's huge desktop computer back in like 2002
>>65164666Not as a main infantry weaponBut having one per squad, or maybe even per fireteam would be pretty useful
>>65164666Since they weren't teaching high-arc defilade fire anymore, being able to laze it, click up two meters, and fire seems to have some merit as a concept. Just that 25-30mm is not a lot of explosive, and 90s consumer tech was still tv-camera-on-shoulder bulky.
It has all the merit in the world as it was a featured rifle in the Punisher vidya
>>65164666It's the best weapon in the Soldier of Fortune franchise (micro uzi is a close second).
>>65164666With modern miniaturization you can do it far more practically on the FCS but the real limitation is just payload on the actual grenade vs carrying capacity and recoil. Better to split the systems into rifle + launcher, and the PGS is doing that.>>65164723>Tactical OpsHoly fuck, someone other than me and like six dudes in Kazakhstan played that?
>>65165167That was literally always the intent.
>>65164666Not in the form it had, but it was pre-smartphone tech. Obviously the XM25 superseded it, but I think if the improvements of the XM25 (slightly larger calibre, carbon fiber barrel, slimmer reciever, etc) were retroactively applied to it and it was glued to a more modern carbine (idk, maybe an MCX or Bren, but make the receivers one piece to reduce weight) then it could be decent. Really I think the Rheinmetall thing is a much better execution of the smart grenade concept, but I dont see any reason why an OICW couldn't be made useful. Like looking at a stripped OICW, the LOP could have been reduced by a couple of inches just by having the carbine moved back, there's nothing in that space between the butt of the carbine and the grenade modules trunnion, there's no need for it as far as I can see.
>>65164666I remember it from the half life 2 BEYTAH
>>65164666The HK one was shit and rightfully shit on, the FN/AAI one was the same concept in a much less stupid form factor and frankly should have won. Give that shit an equivalent modern scope which would be like Acog sized and its no more bulky than an M4 w/M203.
>>65164666just from the pic it looks way too bulky and clumsy to have merit for infantry where every gram is on the line
>>65164666It was absolutely retarded idea.It came fron the SALVO/ACR studies >guns are accurate >main contributor of miss is human aiming error >so let's launch grenade which blast radius will compensate for aiming error Sounds kinda possible on paper but then you run into real world implementation.First to lay h accurate airburst grenade you need to accurately laze target. IE hit target with laser. But if you can aim and hit target why don indeed laser and grenades? Just shoot bullet. Over cycle of grenade aiming (lasing, then readjusting aim to ballistic solution and launching grenade) you shoot several bullets and hit target more.Entire promise was flawed. Then whey elthey realized this kinda stupid they started to shift to "counters defilade".
>>65166755It was always intended for targets in cover, enough of this headcanon and neofuddlore.
>>65164666It gaves more flavour to the best farcry. The kind of weapon you thought was a total invention from the devs who wanted to give you a more futuristic and overpowered weapon after the G36. But then you learn it was a real yet abandoned concept. This and the Jackhammer were top tier early 2000 guns fantasy for me.
>>65167813Peak early 2000's gun.
>>65164666I expect something like this to make a comeback, but instead of a grenade launcher you probably want an anti-drone shotgun on top. Design a large calibre net shot and you can likely stop drones before they make contact with your face.
>>65167833>digital ammo counters for both weaponsHoly sovl
