why hasn't the rising chamber NGSW mechanism been applied to full auto shotguns? it gets rid of rim issues.
Put the ejection port in a less retarded place and then we can talk.
>>65166078I don't think it would really be worth it on a shotgun desu
>>65166080I think that problem was really overstated.
>>65166078>chamber is push through How do you handle the rim?
>>65166082explain. Anti drone shotguns are hot right now and a definitive way to solve reliability issues in a full auto shotgun would be much appreciated.
>>65166080done>>65166097there is no rim. The shells are perfectly cylindrical.
>>65166134Wasn't that already a solved issue? As I understand it, the problems with automatic shotguns are largely due to the difference in loads, not the rim
>>65166139>there is no rimSo we are just inventing a new shotgun round. Why not just make the new round work with standard chambers?
>>65166082>>65166097>>65166134NGSW bullpup shotgun. Mag fed rimless cartridges, bullpup solves the ejection port issue, allows for longer barrel and quick reloads for 'untrained' personnel. People who whinge about 'mushy trigger' because bullpup should be reminded its a shotgun, not a precision weapon. Move buffer spring assy to Y shape with two rods and springs either side of travel, straddling main action beneath rail assembly.
>>65166171>NGSW bullpuppatented but not built
>>65166170the issue is the rim. There is no fixing the rim. By definition, to fix the rim you must make a new type of round. if it means that you can get properly reliable full auto shotguns for drone interception without the need for expensive and complex airburst autocannon, it might be worth it
>>65166175fkn perfect.
>>65166178I agree the rim is the main issue. But OP says >it gets rid of rim issuesRising chamber does not get rid of rim issues in this case (heh). The new ammo does.If you designed an entirely new round why not stick it in an AR or Saiga style action? Why choose rising chamber specifically? To be clear I'm totally on board with updated shotgun ammo and absolutely needs to happen.
>>65166202i suppose you could use a rimless (well, the rim wouldn't protrude) shell that headspaces on the mouth
>>65166202>why not stick with an arOk, lets make an AR then. How do you propose we extract the case?
>>65166235textron patented a way to use cased telescoped ammo with "normal" ejection. Options include just using a normal extractor, or having the top of the chamber be an arm that pushes the case from the front
>>65166242Doesn't this still have a rim? They were trying to be rid of the need entirely. Unless I'm misinterpreting what I'm see here
>>65166202>you designed an entirely new round why not stick it in an AR or Saiga style action? Why choose rising chamber specifically?
>>65166175>not builtI'm not seeing how this chamber mechanism is different in principle from the Steyr ACR.
>>65166396Steyr had ring primer and therefore no need for metal base and primer cup insert. Entire round was from plastic.
>>65166094>>65166080why not make the ejection port a chute that pushes them forward like in the F2000?
>>65166078Because people who make and buy full auto shotguns are, in the grand scheme, poor. The NGSW had the US Army for a benefactor. Someone needs to want a full auto shotgun.
>>65166458Probably no reason not to from an engineering perspective, and I think that's how it originally was based on the profile of the earlier prototypes. They may have chopped it down to save weight and for ergonomics. Having a beefy slab as a handguard was probably just a pain to shoot with
>>65166324it doesn't protrude like in what we call a "rimmed" cartridge. Rimless bullets still have a rim for extraction, after all. Just not protruding.
>>65166396the patented design is aft feeding but otherwise they are fairly similar in principle, although Textron developed the chamber sealing mechanism more after Steyr's work.
>>65166460>Someone needs to want a full auto shotgun.armies
>>65166502What army wants a full auto, shoulder fired shotgun? Elbonia?
>>65166538it doesn't have to strictly be shoulder fired. Maybe it can be a way to increase the reliability of vehicle mounted defensive systems. idk.
>>65166538I guess they'd be useful for smacking drones or something.
>>65166497Well yes, but textrons most recent pct cartridge didn't even have that
>>65167123as explained in >>65166242, they've patented an implementation so they know how to do it
>>65166561>idk.Clearly.A mini-CIWS makes a lot more sense than a full auto shotty. Full auto shotty still has the terrible shortcomings of massive space-inefficient ammo and terrible short range due to the poor aerodynamics of round shot.
>>65166078because it's fucking stupid.Gas operated vetterli looking motherfucker
