I'm not sure where else to ask this, as no other board mentions drones in any way except for /k/. However, drone discussion here seems limited to ukrainian drone warfare. I live in a small town (inb4 larp for not living in a big shity) and we have had a multitude of pets go missing within the last year. We do have things like mountain lions and coyotes out here, but there's been a call for pet search and rescue within the town. So my brilliant boss asked me, the guy with a cheap amazon drone, to send him the "best possible option" for a thermal fpv/live image drone. Of course, the "best possible option" probably sits in the 6 figure mark. Realistically I doubt he wants to spend more than a few grand on a drone. But I'd like to know what the best drone, if not a run of the mill dji, is capable of live thermal feeds. It also must have a long flight time and range from the controller, as I know for a fact my boss will disregard all VLOS rules in favor of doing whatever the fuck he wants.

>>65167009See who in the community has the closest experience to military intelligence/operation to analyse and plan. I reckon you guys needs more than just finding dead dog pieces faster with this much money spent. Are you going to set up surveillance and barriers? Are you going to track down the trouble maker and deal with the predator directly? What are the traces left by the prey and predator in your area? Maybe you guys just need handler and a dog that sniff well.
DJI thermal drone>>65167100Man wtf are you talking about
DJI has industrial drones with thermal cameras meant for all kinds of things. That's one place to look, and probably on the cheaper side as far as industrial drones go. It cones with the risk that it may be difficult or impossible to get support for it later on given the US governments stance on DJI hardware, though. There are plenty of domestic producers of such drones as well, but they generally aren't known outside of the industry because few of them market to consumers. They will be spendier, though
I mostly do fpv stuff, you want a commercial drone like a DJI that is auto levelling and is an all in one package. Id get a kit from DJI and just use that, less hassle than doing a hobbyist build.
>>65167009DJI. Anything else will have a huge learning curve(ardupilot based) and will have to be custom built, or will be over the top expensive.
>>65167009You can't. Trump banned Chinese drones. You have to buy overpriced and 5 years behind gold plated drones made (sold) by his cronies. Thanks, Drumpf!
>>65167009Just google cheap drone with IR, there are plenty out there ranging from ~$1,500 to ~$10,000 depending on capability. If you are a clap dealing with the DJI ban there are plenty of other options they are just a little harder to find.
>>65168266They banned DJI by name becuase they are stupid, all other chink drones are still allowed.
>>65167932Yeah thanks, he decided on a DJI Matrice 4td. Which I think is retarded, but who am I?
>>65168830I don't think the ban will hold, or the massive owner base will find workarounds. DJI will continue to make the best ready to fly drones. I was on a fence about investing in DJI or open source ardupilot. I went ardupilot, because cost, and I wanted to 'get the under the hood' and learn a lot. But if you want to get in the air and working fast, DJI is it.
>>65167009>and we have had a multitude of pets go missing within the last year. How cold is during the winter in your town and do you have any large pond in or nearby your town? Perhaps you would be better served by a bunch of trailcams overlooking strategic places.
>>65167009I've worked for a unit calibrated with this programming and what the fuck. It's shockingly dangerous. "Whatever the fuck he wants" got a dude in an excavator lodged sideways mostly underground in a ditch.
Can you talk him into arming it somehow?
