One of one edition, I am quite sure there is no other gun like this in the world (wafered bull barrel .45 2011)

So I built another “dream gun”, converted my favorite .45 1911 into a 2011.

Now I’m already thinking of my next build and it has only been a week. I saw some parts kits where people cut down GI 1911s to commander size, with the 1897 patent date roll marks, so I want to build something very classic inspired like that.
>>
>>65263548
It’s NZ style and it was very good. Very fresh fish, it was great. If I’m making it myself I use panko breading instead of beer battered style

I would recommend sticking with their Troy Alabama guns. The “next gen” line with an external extractor is very promising and they’re expanding it with more 5 inch options.
>>
>>65263586
They're chips, not fries. They look like they might have the skins on still, and depending how they were cooked can come out looking darker but they aren't burnt. You don't know if the fish is overcooked until you eat it and tartar sauce is for faggots and vinegar is personal preference.

I had a bad experience since it never fed 100% reliably, the slide serrations were literally razor sharp and sliced me on two occasions, and the slide stop engaged prematurely (which is a fixable issue, I just never fixed it).

It does not have a ramped barrel so it lacks full chamber support which honestly isn’t a super big deal, just don’t shoot nuclear 10mm loads.

I had a 2020 production one so covid and shit. The newer ones are different, they have a better grip where they undercut the trigger guard.
>>
>>65262582
They don't block in cars with their cruisers because they generally don't want to actually stop the perp from driving off, they just want to justify a shooting, because they know they'll get a few weeks of paid vacation.

Simply a relic due to technological advancements happening faster than age would render it quaint. Imagine if Double Stack 9mms that were dead reliable happened only 20-30 years after the 1911, it would be a similar thing with revolvers going from the top choice to second place or lower.

More of a thought; is there much of a purpose to having rear iron sights when you have an optic? I used to do a lot of point shooting with irons; and I found the most useful part of the handgun sights in general is the front sight post. So much so I found when I took the time to aim and line up my shots I became less accurate. Obviously this is not a reasonable basis for my question as the reason my accuracy got worse is from doing something to throw my shot off when given extra time. I know irons become extremely useful at the 15+ yard range. I’m curious how much of a difference the front sight irons versus just the rear irons makes when shooting at that distance. In my dry fire practice I’ve noticed for me not using the rear irons only makes a difference for elevation, and it seems the real enemy to accuracy is equal light not equal height. More of a concept; I was curious what other ppl thought. It seems with human sized targets equal light is more important then equal height
>>
>>65264706

I plan on getting one of the Beretta Lunar Overlanding ones too lol.
>>
>>65264714
I feel at this point, Irons are a redundancy in case the optic stops working or breaks or flies off the gun
Pistol optics are reliable but also it's easy to find a ton of posts online of them breaking, for every brand
Some Comp shooters say that with a high enough round count, all pistol optics will break at some point, so the irons give piece of mind

The 1911 is not a finicky firearm, it either works or it doesn't. If it doesn't work then there is something wrong with it, the magazine, or the ammo. The original model of 1911, tested by the Army, went 6000 rounds without a single malfunction or stoppage. My Wilson Elite Professional has been chugging along for maybe 4k rounds in the past 1.5 years with only one stoppage due to a super short JHP and a bad magazine. It feeds empty cases perfectly.

>3k
that's alot of money. I hate to break it to you but I've spent more than that and the gun didn't work out of the box and had to be sent back to Nighthawk. Once fixed, they run beautifully.

What's your features/specs you want? There's quite a few Wilson Combats below 3k used. The IOS cut on the Nighthawks is great, maybe one of the best optic cuts ever. I've seen Nighthawks below 3k, I've bought 2. The Wilson Combat ACP model can be had below 3k new.

What about 2011s? I'm leaning towards 2011 everything from now on, OP is a single stack I converted to double stack.
>>
>>65265208
>What's your features/specs you want?
I'm definitely going with .45. A factory optic cut would be nice, but I'm fine with sending the slide out to someone. Magwell is a must. I think I'd prefer the long trigger. Other than that, I really have no idea. I was leaning toward Les Baer than I read a forum thread about their barrels that spooked me.
>>
>>65265208
>it either works or it doesn't
Patently false. There are tons of 1911s that feed hollowpoints but suck ass with round nose, or the opposite problem.
>>
>>65265178
Last year when I was choosing a new carry gun, the PX4 BARELY beat out the p2000 and largely that is due to the fact thatyour red and blue p2000 frames look SO sick. I still want to get one

same, seeing those barrel legs. like what the fuck this is supposed to be a custom shop. Some people also complaining about higher perceived recoil through les baers -> weaker barrel lock up.

Used Wilson Combats are a great value and you can always send it to Nighthawk or someone else for the IOS cut (Dual Hammer, no iron sight cover plate though)

>sending it to someone
you can always send it back to the maker through an RMA system so it doesn't have to go through FFL to FFL, you just drop the box off at fedex/UPS which is contracted by the gun manufacturer for RMAs. I did that for my Nighthawk optic cuts.

https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1185709630

>>65265247
I didn't elaborate enough, there is something wrong with the gun that causes that issue. Feed ramp angle, barrel throat, extractor tension/claw, magazine, made on a indian burial ground, etc. There is no "it just stopped working for no reason" = finicky, there is always a reason why it malfunctioned that can be fixed hopefully.

There are something wrong with those guns that make them not feed.
>>
>>65265284
there's a bit more to fitting a barrel than shoving it in. sometimes you get lucky and it drops in, otherwise the hood might need to be shortened, the barrel lugs need fitting, barrel bushing OD doesn't fit, the barrel bushing notch doesn't fit the slot in the slide, etc
>>
>>65265284
when posting online always say you had some calipers, a set of gunsmith sharpening stones and carbide powder grinding tips on a rotary tool.

in reality just hit that shit with a sharpie, find out where its scratching, and then scrape it with some sandpaper wrapped around a screwdriver until it drops into place.

What tinkering with a Tisas 1911 has taught me is it's actually a really transparent gun. There's a ton of info out there about every possible spring weight, loads, mags etc. And infinite options for components. You can really tweak a 1911 in like every way imaginable. If it doesn't work out of the box, you're really just a little forum research and a Midway order away from the solution.

10mm 1911s are very troublesome guns. One of my feeding issues was the recoil of the round would shake the top 2 rounds forward in the mag, one of them would engage the slide stop occasionally prematurely, they would also slam into the feedramp and get jammed.

That said a 10mm 1911 is my favorite gun, while troublesome, it has had periods where it shot flawlessly for 1000 rounds. I hope nighthawk fixes it for good this time.

Vortex CompDot, a stripped down version of their defender XL, it appears on S&W guns. It was not intended for sale, it's a cheap dot for gun manufacturers to stick on their "premounted optic deals".

Scheel's sold them for about 200 bucks each. Judge Burt posted a link a year or two ago.

Custom made. “Bobbed” beaver tail. Whoever that gun is made for has mutant hands hence the low lever safety.

Colt’s Limited Government with the original patent date I think is one of prettiest 1911s made at that price point. I see them for 1250 or even less.

The rear sight sucks is ugly, a ledge style sight would be way better looking and tactical. also I’d stick some heinie straight 8 nightsights instead of the gold bead front.
>>
>>65268952
Have you ever handled or shot one? If so, how was it? I'm seriously considering one. Seems like it provides a lot of features at only around 1200. Heinie ledge rear sights fit in a Novak dovetail right? I'd probably also want to swap the trigger out for a long one. Is that a hard job?

>>65268980
I don’t have one. I’m thinking about buying one though. I have a classic Colt 1978 that fills the same role. Gunbroker can have some steals on older 1911s.

As long as you don’t bend the trigger bow accidentally, a trigger install is very easy. You just need to make sure to do safety checks, since the bow length between manufacturers “may” be different. If the trigger moves without any spring tension, theoretically it can get enough inertia under recoil or dropped to pull itself. A reputable manufacturer trigger should drop in almost.

Heinie has their own rear sight cut but they make “low mount” versions of their sight that fits Novak sights.

Wilson or Ed Brown. Kimber parts are cheaply made.

Harrison Design’s triggers are my favorite since he red locktites the overtravel screw and then you file it down to fit it to the gun. I don’t believe anyone has ever had an over travel screw back out on them on a 1911 but it has happened to other guns. Little piece of mind. They also lack the front hole on the trigger since you don’t need it.

Tier 1 centurion. I think whoever makes the hood has new ones now because I saw some different release mechanisms from a different holster company. I wouldn't get this one again. The hood doesn't release until you let go of the button which pisses me off to no end. It also doesn't have a lot of umph so if you carry it half cocked, which I never do except for this one time where I didn't think it would be a problem, it will prevent the hood from moving forward. I guess when they designed it they only tried it fully cocked and hammer down. I basically bricked it and locked my gun in the holster 15 miles innawoods. I wasn't in any danger but it's alarming to realize that if at any point during that hike something happened I would not have been able to draw my gun.

Yeah, sorry, I don't actually have any light bearing holsters that I 100% recommend. I have a light bearing jmck for that gun which is fantastic but it's not owb and doesn't have active retention. I have a safariland for my usp and it's okay but it could be better. It's clunky but serviceable which I guess is the best I'm going to get right now.
>>
>>65269410
I like to train the way I carry, so for me, the first shot will be DA. But unlike these strikerslop zoomers, I'm used to a DAO revolver. >>65269416
Failing to disengage your safety is a non-zero possibility, and it has happened to you even during training. You're lying if you claim it's never happened. It literally can't happen with a DA/SA or DAO without a a safety, and you have the added benefit of actually having a good gun that isn't a cheap piece of tupperware. It's okay if you like the Kia Soul and Glocks, I'm sure they work, but they just aren't good enough for me.
>>
>>65269444
Anon, you’re creating a strawman argument against. I haven’t advocated for a manual safety a single time. At least you’ve quit pretending you think that DA/SA is better on merit and admitted that you have an emotional attachment to it. That’s progress.
>>
>>65269434
The vast majority of people who use strikerslop (cops) are absolute garbage and can't go one mag without limpwristing
>but pros!
Literally paid to use slop. I used to shoot a PSE recurve that I fucking hated, but I was paid to use it, so I pretended like it was good. It was not.
>>
>>65269434
The vast majority of people who use pistols professionally and competitively use the cheapest possible option or the one they were given by their sponsors. Strikerslops are cheap and give manufacturers better margins so they are heavily pushed. Glad you fell for the marketing though, keep shilling.
>>
Can we please make a strikerslop general so that we don't have to share a general with these poors? Could you imagine if these threads were just identical pistols? Why even go on the internet and discuss the lamest, most boring weapon in all of history? At least DA/SA chads have yellowfeveranon and his 27 Berettas.

>>65269452
>>65269454

pistols prefer striker guns, don’t you? How much is Glock paying Ben Stoeger again?

HK really lost all the magic that made them cool in the 90s/00s
>>
>>65269489
It would all come back if they just made a USP 2.0 with an optics cut, non proprietary rail, and updated capacity.
>>
>>65269489
HK revealed in the 10's that they litterally inly care for mil contracts when they decided to become a full time HK416 company. Our best hope is that HKUsa keeps its promise to be more civillian focused and GET US A DAMN P30A1/USP WITH RAIL AND OPTIC CUT. YOU DON'T NEED TO DO MUCH SINCE ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS JUST FIX THE TRIGGER AND CUT THE SLIDE.
>>
>>65269499
>Do the absolute bare minimum and get rid of the stupid proprietary rail instead of resting on their laurels
Wouldn't be HK if they did that.

Speaking of HK, the po7 is everything I wanted in the p30 without having to immediately spend money to fix the trigger. Also the button decocker is a pointless party trick compared to the traditional saftey-position decocker only

What is the real reason that some HK guns have poor capacity compared to their competitors?

I really like my kraken. It's only lvl1, but she be tight. I do recommend legacy.

Ime, someone sees an owb with a button strap, they know it's easy to grab. That's why I love my imi with the button. Some random nog tries running up and grabbing it, they don't know there's a button.
tl;dr it all comes down to training and situational awareness
>>
>>65269519
That's bullshit and you know it. Negative fake news towards glock because our competitors are babies that don't know how to make a product. Any gun that exploded was tampered with by competitors
>>
>>65269238
Haha.
>>
>>65269520
>Immediately spend money to fix a trigger
Come to glock brother
>>
>>65269521
I'm not actually sure why but magazine capacity continually gets better. Could be spring metallurgy, design of the follower to hold more rounds without binding, thinner walls of the mag body. But the new capacity standard is 17 rounds of 9mm, in the 90s when the USP came out it was 15. The P30 and VP9 got updated mags so now they're at the 17 round standard, USP didn't.
>>
>>65269530
I got the po7 to avoid that. At best I just need to get a 24 dollar spring kit, but otherwise the trigger is completly trainable. The p30 somehow has a trigger with a unique feel everytime you pull it. The Lem is good but finding one sucks and I don't feel like doing the Lem conversion/getting it done.

That's what gets me. It's a comped 2011 that's not only like two grand or more cheaper than most of its competitors, but also by all counts a legitimately solid pistol.

But then I remember it's a Sig and I half expect it to blow up in my hand 500 rounds in or something while some Jeet with the corporate instagram account tells me it didn't happen.

That was the delta elite’s issues, but the nighthawk had the same issues. The fixed the first one but occasionally the slide stop gets engaged prematurely under recoil.

They’re fitting a new slide stop now. I didn’t even buy it from them, I bought it used and they’ve been fixing it for free

*monoblock
It should be plug and play with your holster.
>>
>>65269437
I tried one while I was getting my Shadow 2.
It's about the same as a VP9.
Not to say that they're terrible, but comparing a SA break to a striker fire with the plunger creep is crazy.
>>
>>65269525
My only problem with it is that it releases late. I have to push the button and then release the button before I can draw. If it released when I pushed the button and I could draw while releasing the button then it would be perfect. It's 95% of the way there. It's so close to being perfect and these kinds of designs piss me off the most because they could have made a good one but they chose not to.

Personally I'm not concerned with people grabbing it, it's just none of these holsters have retention beyond the hood, it's all tension holding the gun in once the hood is released. If they altered the molding to offer some retention with the hood open then I wouldn't complain. I just don't want the gun bouncing out when I have the hood open.

I regularly have to bend over to pick up heavy boxes at my work, so I got a vertical draw shoulder holster. This one was on sale and I've been practicing my draw under snap button jackets in winter or a button-up collared tees and a work uniform fleece vest overtop. Takes a little more than a second to safely draw and fire. The old CT laser pointer grip helps a little, too.
