>Basedmade edition
That is the gayest looking lineup I've ever seen...
What knife are y'all eying? Me? Either a Benza S or Eklipse 3.0. I am leaning more towards the Benza though...
>>65290481Either Tom Cruise is tiny or that's a Large Benza.
>>65290481Custom/small production fixed blades for the most part. Maybe a Spyderco Bodacious if I can get the blue one for under $200. I have two Waxedwing fixed blades on their way.
>>65290490Tom Cruise is tinypretty sure he's like 5'7" so yes, Tom is a smol manlet... also did you know his upper teeth are off-center? you can't unsee it but he's not often filmed straight on smiling since it's most noticeable like that.. one of his two front teeth is perfectly in the middlethis has been my Tom Cruise fun fact (it's the only fun fact)
I will never understand the appeal of this brand, you need like 5 separate bits just to work on this fucking thing. And don't get me started on them skimping out and giving us only 1 titanium scale. The color doesn't even match...
Anyone getting that new fagnamax Manix?
>>65290748I'm not a steel autist so no...
>>65290555I've never even seen one in person. I'd like to.
>>65290788Me neither, the only semi-premium knives I've seen in person is probably a CRK. I've never seen a $1000+ knife either. Most of the knives are seen are cheapo Kershaw and Gerber.
>take a cheap Civivi overseas>TSA opened bag>knife missing>no notes(IIRC I got a note saying like they were checking for batteries once. I fly a lot)>another trip>take a cheap Kershaw>again TSA opened bag>knife missing>no notesI honestly want to start bringing my Spydercos but I really don't know what this track record.
>>65290824You see who works at TSA. Don't be surprised.
>>65290822I've always wanted to finger fuck a Southard knife, especially after he stopped making them. They look amazing, and I've never heard anything but praise about them.
>buy 2 customs>usps tracking>no update since label printI hope it’s just usps tracking being worthless.
>>65291729What customs?
>>65292047https://waxedwing.com/products/chitinOne for me and one for my pops.
>>65291729Depending on how long its been they are probably just saving up all their packages to bulk ship them at once. If its been more than a few days I'd contact the seller for a shipping update.
>>65292171Cool! That's a nice looking knife. I hope you and your pop cherish them. A little knife like that is pretty nice for EDC. I've had this Bradford for a while.
>>65292347Thanks! I want to like Bradford so much as they are local to me and make nice knives. Sadly they incorporate a design trait that I despise, and I WILL sperg about.
>>65292390They are local to me too! What design trait are you sperging about, WAbro?
>>65292442I am gods strongest finger choil hater. The handle should be covered by handle material, ricasso should be minimal, and then blade. The trend of making bare blade stock the front of the grip triggers me greatly.
I've owned a knife for a few years now but only recently have I added it to my EDC. Is there any upkeep or maintenance I should be doing like oiling it to prevent rust from sweat or anything?
>>65292842Depends on the steel. I'd wipe it down once in a while and blow out the dust. A good modern stainless steel knife would have to be severely neglected and abused for a long time to start rusting.
>>65292871Thanks man, I appreciate it
>>65292471I mean I guess you could slip and nick your finger but give me a good choil scenario
How crunchy are the Olive Tunsten knives? Because having a steel that makes REX121 a joke when it comes to edge retention is appealing to me.
>finally got a Spyderco >PM2>like it at first>use it to trim small branches in my rose garden>ergos suck compared to BM and chickshit knivesI don't get it, I feels like its trying to be a khukri, but its not so I have to bend a lot to cut.
It's over. Makes me want to sell all my GTs...
>>65293291Guardian Tactical more like Bank River Tactical.
>>65293298I have 9 of their knives.. what have I done.. I could have added 9 more microtechs instead.
>>65293316Bro how much do these pieces of shits cost?
>>65293322I spent anywhere from 275 to 390 on each one..
>>65293327lol you could have bought two of these pieces of shits.
>>65293335144 for the g10 version? that's really cheap. How much of a lemon are they?
>>65293347Spy is pretty good with their heat treatment so it should be decent. Their blades are just too thin for my taste and I can't get used to their ergos. It's one of those you either hate it or love it brand.
>>65293021Ok, I’m releasing my autism inhibitiors. The Casstrom Lars Falt is an example of a bushcraft knife. The handle is designed for extended use, it’s nice, no sharp edges, hand filling and comfortable. Like holding a nice boob.>uploads not uping
>>65293021Now for a smaller fixed blade for edc, even pocket carry, the same applies. This Architect AK3 has a nice full handle, just about as large as you can pocket carry.
>>65293021Now a bit smaller, Esee Xancudo and Boker AK1. The Esee has full handle scale coverage. It’s extremely comfortable in any grip. The AK1 has just slightly less than full scale coverage. Not a huge difference, but there is a bit of exposed finger guard.
>>65293021Now I’m going to use the White River backpacker as an example. This knife makes the bold design choice of providing an incomplete set of handle scales. Instead of using handle scales to provide traction and comfort, they boldly embrace thin, smooth metal on the primary gripping area of the knife handle. This trend has gained some popularity, but I find it repulsive.
And if you say pinch grip I’m going to start using slurs.
>>65293350Spyderco is really good with the heat treatment. Out of the box definitely the sharpest blades for a big manufacturer. It is a love or hate with the ergos. I love them for the most part, but I wish they would chamfer the spyder hole a bit like they first did on the Southard. Doesn't tear up your fingernail as much. >pic related
>>65290824It's not optimal for you to let them get away with stealing from you.
>>65292842What kind of steel is it? Is there a coating? If so, what kind of coating? Oiling it never hurts. Sweat is probably your main enemy, so if you sweat on it, wipe it off with something that removes the sweat like rubbing alcohol.
>>65293291oof
>>65293676even CRK does this
>>65294637The venn diagram of (blade) and (handle) should not overlap. This also applies to finger choils.
>>65293291Yikes, might as well just use AEB-L and save the cost of gucci steel.
>>65293676So i feel like your index finger doesn’t need that extra scale and your thumbs going to be gripping the top not the side. But as an aesthetic thing I can see it your way
>>65293676Pinch grip it bro
You’re all carrying American made knives for the month of July, right?
>>65293291thank god they are hard to get in EU. I wanted Recon 40 some time ago. Heretic based or not?
>>65295087i only ever carry american made knives
>>65295087NoI hate americans
Making another knife, just needs glue sharpening and weeks of tung oil and varnish
>>65294953You don’t need a good handle where the most control and grip is. I must be taking crazy pills.>>65294969Pinch your tiny dingus, homosexual scum.
Is we getting a Fagnamax Delica?>>65295223NiceI am appreciating big belly knives more and more
>>65295223This gentleman knows how to make a handle.
Any good fixed blade clone knives on aliexpress worth bothering with? Looking for something with a sheath that will take a teklok
>>65295929Knife
>>65293316>I could have added 9 more microtechs instead. You could have... but you shouldn't buy that many just for yourself. >>65293743The blade reminds me of the BM 940 a bit. >>65295263The average person doesn't really know how to hold a knife for anything beyond cutting tape. Slicing veggies, fugeddaboutit.
All knives should be hollow grind or full flat, by law.Stop fucking prying with knives.
>>65295929>clone>aliexpressWhy do you want to buy garbage?
>>65295942>The blade reminds me of the BM 940 a bit.Eh it's not even close. It's all bell and a very weird blade for Spyderco. It's super thick on top, mirrored stonewash finish and a chamfered spydie hole.I do have a 940 which is by far my favorite Benchmade.
>>65296131Nah just the profile, not the thickness or the stupid hole. My buddy has one and I've sharpened it a bunch. Fun knife, love the auto kick. If it wasn't as strong up-turn on the end I'd consider it myself.
Guys I need a decent AUS10/9CRV/VG10 chefs knife that isn't going to break the bank.
>>65296136Still not seeing it on the profile, but whatever. It's a fun unique knife from Spyderco for sure. It's what got me into knives and Spydercos in the first place. Now I have 106 knives, 46 are Spyderco.
>>65295942You’re not using an edc sized fixed blade in a pinch grip like a chef knife on a cutting board. Same with any bushcraft knife this side of a nice thin Kephart.
>>65295929Get a mora.
>>65296109because knives don't matter, I can file a garbage knife into a grind and shape that I like and refinish it. I will never pay some faggot wearing a flannel more than $60 to make a tiny little 3" fixed blade>>65296303I have two garbergs, I just don't like the sheaths, there's not really a good solution that's quick on/off. I actually made a couple custom sheaths for my garbergs but getting a nice flat spot for a teklok is too hard
>>65296376just buy a normal mora you retard
>>65296504Recommend me a Mora machete, I need to tear apart some bushes in a hurry. And these cheap Harbor Freight trimmers get stuck on larger branches.
It feels like nobody is doing any 4th of July sales this year. I see a free flag here or there but nothing big.
>>65296710Ripps Garage us doing 25% site wide on scales I might get something for my Bugout.
>>65295929Just buy a CS clone. Its probably from the same factory. I like the Kobuns
>>65297066Kobun is solid. I got one years ago for $30. Step up to around $100 and CS knives are really solid.
>>65295929Get a fugazi ka-bar bk2 if you need a beater. Tons of them floating around the chinesium shops, it's thick so you won't notice or can correct fucked up grinds or even if it's shitty steel although if they swapped 1095 crovan for 18650 spring steel I wouldn't give a shit
>>65295263i'm with you on that but my go to edc is a spyderco roadie which has a ribbed choil the grip is superior idk a smooth choil does seem retarded
What's the point of a super expensive folding knife if it's going to instantly look like shit once you use it a few times and sharpen it?At least high end kitchen knives have the geometry and the size to look good after frequent use and they're not in your pocket getting scratched up by keys and coins and stuff and even if they do get scratched up they're still better looking than an enameled damascus HSTS $1000 pocket sword because none of the finishing is dependent on maintaining a high polish at all times
>>65297982scratches dont look bad and your sharpening shouldnt be making it look bad. put a clean edge on, practice more.
>>65297995It's essentially impossible to sharpen* 99% of folders in a clean way because of how the blade edge sits relative to the handle. You either have to compromise on the edge geometry or just leave a significant area of the edge untouched*as in freehand sharpen with a stone, maybe the issue here is you guys all use gizmo rat tail rod systems
>>65297982I hand sharpen mine with a stone. No scratches. Same with using a ceramic honing rod. Just get good.
>>65298094That's a factory edge, post a real picture with timestamp.
>>65297982It's just a flex, like having a really nice watch. unpopular truth: smooth titanium is a terrible handle material
>>65298008i use a stone for my beater knives like my ontario rat but my expensive knives get the guided system yes
Why doesn't anyone talk about morakniv anymore? It seemed like 2-3 years ago they were all the rage?
>>65298165Are you okay, retard?
>>65298172Calm down Proonjar, humans are talking
>>65297982I don't keep other stuff in my knife pocket. Some people's knives look better after being shrapened.
>>65298175I don't know, one party seems to be a goldfish, or at least have the memory of one.
>>65298165Look a few posts up.
>>65290555If you got a chance to play with one and feel the smoothness and precision of the action you'd understand. I'd never experienced a folding knife with truly zero blade play or flex of any kind before this. Not like this is the only knife with perfect tolerances and satisfying action of course, or even the cheapest. This is also the only knife to my knowledge with 3 interchangeable pivots or such a huge variety of aftermarket parts. And you don't need 5 bits, for cleaning or changing the pivot you only need 2, 3 if you want to take the pocket clip off. The spanner bit is not required you can just hold the spanner side of the pivot still with your finger. Source: me.>The color doesn't even match...Autism. Why does it need to be one color?
>>65297982If the knife not looking perfect bothers you just buy a fixed angle sharpener, there's one for every price point and it's probably worth getting one anyway if you want to reprofile or have weirder blade shapes. Otherwise who cares, it's not like you aren't going to sharpen it again. Also scratches only really matter if you're looking to resell and stonewash finishes are popular.>>65290555The price hasn't increased cause they look to make better margins off of aftermarket parts, think that's a worthwhile trade. >>65298666Yeah I just use a penny for the pivot. The only thing about the hardware mix that annoys me is whether or not they feel like using torx or hex for the body screws, though you can tell at a glance which is being used by looking at the lockside.
>own a basic bitch bugout>s30v>plastic scales>buys a Kizer Dogfish with 154CM>aluminium scales>'premium materials'>action still feel cheap compared to the bugout even though it has bearings instead of just washers like on my US made knivesAnyone else feel this way? Or does the Kizer actually has the better action but my mind is telling me the Bugout has a better action.
I bought some magnacut steel, 3 ft.What should i make with it. Gonna make my mom a kitchen knife that she can abuse. But what about the other 2ft? Big ass tanto short sword and a side knife?
>>65299425Make knives. Magnacut was made for knives. If you make something like a tanto short sword, you're going to see the importance of size and blade geometry for a steel's given purpose really fucking quick. There's a reason things that size are made with 1095 Steel, something that would be considered budget or under par for a folding knife. 1095 is hard and works well on bigger shit. Magnacut is focused on edge retention and corrosion resistance, yes it has good hardness but good hardness for a folding knife and the types of things you'd use a knife for. If you try to make a sword out of it, it won't automatically be the best sword ever because Magnacut is a knife steel.
>>65299141I used to clean and re-lube my skateboard bearings to make it go fast. Even though they were covered, they still got dirty. I wouldn't think bearings would go well on a knife pivot.
>>65299592I live in a humid area so thats what got me thinkin about this steel
>>65299592Apparently, Larrin's initial graphs that showed 1095 at a very low toughness were wrong and he re-did the test proving that 1095 is tough like everyone always said. But then, the graphs never got updated afterwards.
>>652996061095 is decent enough but its definitely better on big things like short swords than it is on knives. The whole point of Magnacut is that it has great hardness for knife sized things so you can make the blades thinner, whereas if he's making a tanto short sword, that's going to be a big fucking hunk of steel that's larger than even a PMP Alpha Beast knife. Using Magnacut for that won't show Magnacut's qualities the same way a folding knife or even a kitchen knife does. Remember Larrin works primarily in automotive steel, they're never going to make cars out of Magnacut or even support beams out of it. >>65299604Assuming your shit is heat treated properly, you'll get the most out of it by making small thin things. Try making a fish hook out it, I don't know. Or fillet and gutting knives.
>>65298112Factory edges don't have that amateurish smile IMHO.
>>65299594Chink brands would cram popular features into their knives without fully understanding how they would actually perform(probably due to lack of experience or R&D). For instance, DHGate garbage watches like San Martin includes shit like sapphire crystals and micro-adjustments in their homage watches, but even with all of these 'premium features' they're still shit. That being said the action is kinda meh on this I think is due to the nature of the button lock. Still looks nice and feels somewhat solid in lock up. I'll probably use it for one of my throw aways for when I want to put a knife in my checked baggage.
>>65299782> Chink brands would cram popular features into their knives without fully understanding how they would actually performI’m convinced that’s why 80% of the Chinese knives have finger choils. I’ve dubbed the inexplicable double choil the “china choil” because more features is better, right?
>tfw you need something like a BK7 or BK9 because you need to trim the non-producing branches to your fruit plants but are too cheap to pay $150 for a knife that will get scratched to hell the first time you use itWhat are some cheap alternatives? The Glock knife doesn't look like it has the weight to cut through them. I had a tree trimmer but the Ryobi ones have uttter shit torque and anytime I buy a yardmaster it dies a day after warranty. I rather just do shit by hand at this point...

>>65300054How thick are these branches? If they are smaller than 25mm (1 inch) just get a set of Felco secateurs. Also fuck these new captchas.
>>65300470They're around 1-2cm and those things hurt my hands after a while. I've seen some assisted ones from Ryobi but I would rather have a large knife for the same price.

>>65300141i missed out on the $35 XL version for prime day
>>65301681Dang. Was it the clip point? For the XL I think the tanto or vaquero make the most sense, but that's a great deal either way.
>>65301726the kris XL was $38, the vaquero serrated was $36, i think the clip point was $38 but cant remember. check camelcamelcamel it will show them. im waiting for the next time they go on sale then im gonna pick up a few. i like my XL vaquero a lot. it fits a perfect niche. definitely not an EDC blade. i carry it but never use it because sharpening the serrations would be such a pain in the ass so i only think of it as a self defense tool
>>65301681How much is it now?
>>65300054cheapo Tramontina. just a slab of 1070 SAE carbon steel. I still use the same one I bought 20 years ago, steel is tough. if it rusts I just sand it and throw it in a pile.
>>65301956Thanks anon for the 12 inch, gonna try it out I have a few stainless pota andpans from them. They make pretty good stuff. And even if it breaks it's only $22.Also got a PM2 Maxamet for $150 from the Spyderco.com 4th sale.
>>65302112it says $250 for me
>>65302129Did you remember to enter the coupon code?
>>65302112I got a Hogue Mysto for $150, looking forward to it. Hogue really is shaming everyone else in the knife industry right now. 3.4 inch Magnacut blade, HRC 62-64, titanium studs and standoffs, steel liners with Richlite handle. Meanwhile the Benchmade Barrage, with Richlite handle and the same size blade in only S30 is FOUR HUNDRED FUCKING DOLLARS.
>>65302219I've been meaning to get a Hogue, I have their grips for my 1911 and P226. Their G10 is very nice.I got 3 knife in total.Tramontina 14" Machete Kizer DogfishPM2 MaxametI also bought a few sharpening stuff like the Worksharp strop and the DMT diamond plates that's on sale.
>>65302240I have their grips for my GP 500 but their knives have little to no marketing behind them. A lot of people don't even know they make knives. But from everything I hear they are making very solid knives with proper heat treat.
>>65301919its back to $66 on amazon but midway still has it on sale for like $40 if you want one. its not that bad of a price, even if the amazon one went back on sale you would only save like $5 over midways current price
>>65301919desu i think its a decent deal for around $40, kind of pricey at msrp of like $100, lots of shops carry it for like $80 normal price. i was pleasantly surprised with its construction. its almost comically large and kinda hard to open one handed without practice. looks like midway has only the clip point and drop point and kris on sale now the tanto and vaquero are back to normal price. the clip point is $39.99 the drop point is $42.99 and the kris is 44.99. these are for the XL versions with the 5.5" blade. looks like they sold out of the 4" large version, they had the clip point 4" large on sale a month ago for 29.99 i think. i didnt get one though because i wanted the XL.https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1023455237?pid=459822
>>65302211Oh, wow!
I’m thinking about getting a Bark River Mike Stewart Bowie from DLT. I want a traditional, or close, Bowie to go with a SAA and Sharps.
>>65302496>Bark RiverBe careful which model you buy... some are straight up using cheap chink steel.>>65302240I forgot to ask these should sharpen Maxamet right? I can always cancel the order, right now I only have a Sharpmaker and Work Sharp precision.
>>65299782Take a q-tip and wet the top of it. Find the cutouts on your knife for where the button holds the blade and apply a nice coating. Open and close it a few times, then re-apply. Enjoy. Did the same on my Benchmades, Boker, Hogue, and LUDTs and it's so much better.
>>65296153Global G16 Classic Chefs Knife 10”. Used it everyday for two years at a catering company. Very deft but big enough to cut a watermelon without trouble. You can go down to the 8 inch if you don’t need the size. Fucker was $100 several years ago and now it’s $220 Jesus Christ.
>>65296153Be a man among men and get a carbon steel chef knife.
>>65299782>>65302623Meant to say "wet the top with lubricant", not water.
>>65302623>>65303005I mean its closing without getting hung up, it's just that the action feels not as tight as my other knives which isn't a big deal. But just from holding it and manipulating it you can just tell its a cheaper knife, which it is. The finish is also the same cheap blued finish which will come off with a simple stropping.
Where are the rest of the girls?
>>65290555$500 for G10 grips is a tough call, even CRK has dual Titanium scales.
>>65302623Just take the knife apart and clean/lube it properly
>>65304150Yea I'll probably do that, I wonder if I should use pivot oil or thin bearing grease. The tolerance isn't as good as more expensive knives, soi am assuming bearing grease.
>>65304190If it's a crossbar lock with bearings, I would leave the bearings dry so there's no lube to attract dirt. Maybe put a little grease on the back of the blade where the crossbar rubs against it.
>>65304202Good point, never had a knife with bearings before. I think I would put some oil on the pivot only and leave the bearings alone.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hdsSFDn54fY
>>65304215That sounds reasonable.
https://countycomm.com/collections/4th-of-july-sale/products/ergo-r4a-pro-ready-4-action-fixed-blade-knife-od-green-labyrinth-g10-new-copyis this a good deal for $38?
>>65304286Took it apart, this thing is a pita to put back together. My suspicions are also right, the reason for the rough action is because the tolerances are utter shit. It's so bad that I can stick a piece of paper in between the contacts. I put some EWL in between the pivot and blade as well as the lock railings. It's smoother now, but who knows how long this will last. I think I'm done with these chinkshit brands, Spyderco makes chinkshit but I they should have better tolerances and QC.
>>65305212Forgot to add that the action feels really nice with the EWL. But again, once the dust starts getting in it should start feeling like shit again.
>>65305212There is a reason why customs are a thing. If you want that action consistent among knives, you need to pay $$$. I've found that ZT makes really nice actions for a good price.
Slimming down my pocket knife collection. Keeping the hogue mysto with awt aluminum scales, the crk small sebenza, microtecb ultratech, and axial shift v3. Selling everything else. I've boiled it down to what I love and trust and use most and 99% of the time it's one of those four. This is pretty much the end of my knife journey I think. I don't see a point anymore in hoarding dozens of other knives i never feel like carrying...Yall know this feel?
>>65305306I mean I have some knives that are smooth as silk out of the box that I don't have to make them function correctly. And those knives are far from custom, yes they might be US made but not custom.

>>65302211FUCK I knew it was too good to be true lol. I literally got a call from them, which is kinda nice to be able to talk to someone from Spyderco.
>>65307051lolI'd cancel it desu. Maxamet is a meme steel. It will chip if you use it to cut anything that isn't soft.
>>65307051I was going to point that out when I looked up what OpFocus was, but thought it might be different because it was a "flash sale" and wasn't on the "sale" page. The right thing for them to do would be to give you the discount, then fix the problem that let this through, lest they be accused of bait and switching.
>>65307068Yeah, I told her to just cancel it. I'm not a big fan of the ergos anyway. I'm more into the traditional ergos. I'll probably still try to get the Tantos just for the potential swap value on them. I've seen some going for $375 that sold within 30 seconds of being listed. >>65307080Who knows, I'm really not that big on the PM2, but for $150 it's a steal. The fags at Reddit are having a shitfit over this.

>>65307375IDK man this thing has aluminium scales, I didn't need liners. Also because of the aluminium scales they skimped out on the finish that literally rubs off if you wipe hard enough with a rag.

>>65308643>Name a good one that ain't CRK.That's your problem. You're the one that's whining about the complexity of a button lock.
>>65308652Because they basically invented a whole new way to do it that turned out to be more complicated than what's already been explored and done. It's like that one retarded running bicycle thing. Just because it's new and different doesn't make it better.
>>65308656Honestly the Microtech Ram-Lok is far superior to the framelock. Then the Spyderco compression lock is probably the second best in terms of modern knives.
>>65300251>green ultemI support this. We deserve the clear plastic aesthetic with the tensile strength of aluminum.
>>65307713It's difficult to explain why they need a nice knife when they've never owned a nice knife. idk what it is, they always complain that they don't want to use an expensive knife. >>65308663Isn't it just an axis lock with a coil spring? How different can it be?
>>65309552Omega springs break n sheeitAlso axis locks require a layer between the steel liner and the outer handle for the spring.
>>65309566coil springs can break too, but to be fair microtech's coil springs seem more long-lasting than most others i've seen. I think the real issue with omega springs is they are right there where your fingers are, they easily get exposed to water, gunk, and sweat, and this weakens them...
>>65309705Yeah could be. I think they get the shape wrong as well. It should be more parabolic.
It finally arrived. Blade pivots really smoothly. Handle pivot is really stiff sadly. Weird screw shape but I would like to polish it out if I can. Locking wedge a little crunchy as well. As a knife I can't lie, it is a bit disappointing. Very handle heavy. POB is basically right on the pivot between the blade/handle. Not what you'd want in a heavy knife. It isn't super sharp but that's not the worst. Comparing it open to closed and it really doesn't seem to justify being a folder vs a fixed blade. But I got it because it is weird as fuck and cool and Joergsprave is unfathomably based and I wanna support innovation. Mine was 0262/2000 so theres still tons left but at 350 burger bucks it is kinda hard to justify unless you need some sort of folding knife to stash between your seat and the center console in your car? I rate it Cold-Steel-but-German/10
>Benchmade has big announcement on knifecenter and bladehq>open it up>it’s the same models as always, except this time with green plastic handles and cerakoted blades>and a higher pricetagepik, shrimply epik!
Haven't heard of any of the coil springs on MT or the Manix breaking.Have heard plenty about omega springs breaking from Bitchmade. Finally got two of the slicey bois.
>>65308663>>65309552Apologies for the shitty photo and weird ass hand position, was trying to hold the Benchmade AXIS lock in a middle position for visibility but I got a comparison right here. Granted, the Bedlam is auto so it is not 100% the same. >Bedlam has a roller bar, with a pair of some sort of torsion springs that are very flat on either side riding in a channel between the grip and liner towards the blade/inside, with no spring pushing directly behind it>Amphibian which is the ram system, has a parallelogram shaped locking wedge with a coil spring pushing directly on itI could probably disassemble the Benchmade but I'm lazy ATM. I am not 100% on how the springs are set up on the Benchmade now that I look at it more.
>>65310240ive taken a few axis locks apart not benchmade specifically but it's all the same shit and you can expect the spring is basically like this.
>>65310288All the ones I've seen look like this
Just watched a video on instant coffee patina, makes a really nice dark finish. Sadly I think the only bare carbon blades I have are pinned handles.
>>65310738I've been meaning to build an etch tank. I've seen various shops who do actual wootz/decorative lamination have some with acids but I would like to get a wooden base & have a knife sized etch tank & a longer/wider one for any swords to account for sabre width/curve. The nice thing with coffee is it works so slowly and doesnt require very fast neutralization the way acids or corrosive salts like ferric chloride do. Hell you can just get some water & dark roast grounds and double bag it in ziploc and keep an eye on it. One nice thing about coffee is you can fully submerge it and consistency in etching is really hard to do without a certain level of logistical equipment for full dunks at a time. Some people do cotton pads and swirl a section of blade at a time but I never got the pattern down. >If you get really bored, just start putting any random blades or pieces of metal in. Better the older they are. Picrel is a polished bright steel tip of a Swiss spadroon made in the early 1800s but when you etch it, you can see how folded the steel was to remove impurities just as a common step. Shear steel is a very loosely grained steel usually used in its namesake that is also fun to etch.

>>65310936The wave feature was originally meant to block another blade in a knife fight.lol.
>>65311056The concept of a Steven Segalish knife fight is retarded, if you're down to only your shitty 154cm Emerson knife, you might as well give up now because you're fucked.
>>65310961Does everyone else not love wave openers? Having the knife just open on its way out of your pocket is fantastic. I'd love to see more of that.
>>65311103Not for $200+ no, and if I need to tactical draw my knife I probably wouldn't be fast enough to not get shot up. If I really really needed to draw something tactically, it would probably be my G19.
>>65311112I was talking about wave OPENERS, not necessarily the Emerson brand. Spyderco has one or two knives with waves, and there are attachments to bodge one onto Bugouts and the like. Even if you're just out to cut cardboard having your blade pop out when you want it is pleasant.
>>65311103If I lived in a cuck state or country I'd 100% go wave openers on my shit, even DIYing them when I can. >>65311090The amount of normies that don't understand that having a knife fight is about the same as pulling the pin on a grenade and tackling the other dude is too fucking high. I blame movies for brainwashing them, same as the whole "hurr just shoot the gun out of his hand" or "shoot him in the leg" bullshit. We ought to consider putting disclaimers on capeshit and heroslop intros "THE SHIT YOU'RE ABOUT TO SEE OF JASON BOURNE WINNING A 1V1 BAREFISTED AGAINST A DUDE WITH A KNIFE IS DUE TO HUNDREDS OF HOURS OF TRAINING, NOT BECAUSE HE 'BLACKED OUT' AND LET THE RAGE TAKE HIM OVER!" /rant

>>65311264Have no idea. Also it's not the sharpest out of the box, but it's one of the most. It has that toothy sharpness to it. Spyderco comes super sharp most of the time too, but the sharpest Spyderco out of the box is just as sharp as any Emerson I've ever seen out of the box.

I want the Para 3 Salt to go with my PM2 Salt but I need to save money for the Tantos...
>>65290348I think the Hogue knives that they first released are cool, but I have no idea if they're any good. I just checked their site for the first time in years, but it looks like all of the old ones are discontinued. Also, I'm going to buy a poleaxe or haldberd head. Also also, I bought a hilarious gil hibbon cleaver that I now carry daily. thank you for reading my blog
>>65310961-Yes it is me the autist who polished the locking surfaces of the amphibian so it would deploy smoother. -I havent carried the Bedlam in like a fucking decade desu. But as you can see I kinda have long slender fingers so what I remember is I just pressed the knife more against fingers, left the palm side hollow to avoid the pocket clip, and used my thumb to deploy. -Amphibian is quite literally my favorite carry knife I've ever had, it's massive, heavy, and looks on the cusp of cringe. But it is a solid fucking workhorse with 0 blade play or grittiness. It's the A1 Skyraider and I love it. -As far as handles go, I think I could get a pressure squeeze for lack of a better term on the bedlam because there's a softer texture on the G10. Amphibian has a slightly more slippery grip but it just fits into my hand so perfectly that it's never been an issue. Thumb on back pressed into the ridges w/ lower meat of the thumb down the back of the handle and pointer finger wrapped around the groove, with the rest of the grip just to keep it stable. I think the G10 probably is more comfortable but the shape of the Amphibian alone overrules it. Bedlam grip isnt awful but if anything it's a tad too narrow for me to get a solid grip on it.
>>65311052Normally when closed the locking bar sits more forward. All you gotta do is use a finger on either side to pull it down and the blade deploys. Yeah it is a bit more tedious than a 'switchblade' but its easy enough to do and a lot harder to deploy accidentally.
>>65311455neato
I risked it. I worried about carbide tear-out and proud carbides. I stropped S30V on a boomer flexcut carving knife strop. The gold stuff. It went from every-once-in-a-while-but not really-but-will-do-it-every-new-moon hair whittling sharp to every-other-time hair whittling sharp.
what is the point of a multi-hundred dollar knife?why should I buy a multi-hundred dollar knife? What multi-hundred dollar knife should I buy if I am now interested and want something that works for most general purposes? I really don't know anything about knives. Everyone says you should have a good knife but what does that even mean and why do the shitty $10 knives that work perfectly fine 99% of the time not suffice?
>>65311544liking some aspect of itbecause you want itany of them that appeals to youif a ten dollar knife works fine then stick with it at the end of the day people are individuals and what someone likes/values may not be the same as you so make your own judgements
>>65311295>2026>tantoare you 12?
>>65311544The biggest reasons you'd consider buying a more expensive knife over a $10 is better blade steel which means more usage before having to sharpen it, easier time cutting things, and better action. It's personal preference at the end of the day.
>>65311544If several hundred dollars is enough to you that you can't imagine spending it on a knife: don't. It won't be an order of magnitude better than a cheap knife. You'll also be afraid to use it for fear of it getting damaged, since a knife is a wear item. But if that's like a day or two's income for you, get an expensive knife. They are fun, satisfying objects to have and you will appreciate the craftsmanship. On the other hand, a $10 knife is likely to be a piece of shit. Cheap good knives are closer to $50.
>>65311544>multi-hundred dollarGenerally you shouldn't. Unless you want a made in USA knife then you don't have to spend that much to get something that's pretty good. >why spend more than $10You can have better steel for the blade, nicer handle materials, better build quality, a lock that feels smooth and is more ergonomic.
>>65311295spyderco's strongest soldier
>>65311459>https://files.catbox.moe/px2o3m.mp4Took a quick video. The switch in the back is the safety, when it is pushed forward it causes a locking lug of sorts to block the axis lock action, pulling it back like I did clears the channel. Hopefully the rest is clear enough. Hard to take the video since I use my pointer finger vs my thumb and my cat was ramming my legs so I had to take the video 3 times. Hope it helps!
>>65312718haha, I would keep the safety on most off the time
>>65312736Yeah when I carried it daily in college because the LGS lost my Infidel which is a whole story that ends with them buying me a 10th anniversary one instead, I believe I kept it safety on. Easy enough to almost reverse Handgun it where the pointer finger flicks off the safety and the thumb deploys it. I used my pointer for both thats irrelevant. IIRC I could never get the pocket clip off the wrong side for a lefty because I didnt have the tools as a poorfag metalhead type and it subsequently snapped off anyways. All in all not an awful knife but Benchmade is definitely in the Emerson camp of 'at one point innovative but never put in work iterating or improving anything' and Microtech whether you find them cringe or cool has actually continued to keep improving and working on shit. Wish Tony Marfione would do some Scimitar or Persian type blades for some of his knives. I know the recurve bowie/kukri/harpoon type blade is popular right now but it'd still be cool to have something more svelte.
>>65312792>Wish Tony Marfione would do some Scimitar or Persian type blades for some of his knivesI think the closest is the Amphib or the Brachial. Allegedly they were going to do some more runs of the Brachial before I left. For better or worse, Tony isn't the biggest fan of fixed blades, at least for selling for money. Unless he gets another John Wick hail mary...
>>65313260I wish he did more random shit at least. The scimitar on the Bedlam is really nice but Bitchmade only has the mini now. Hear me out: Jagdkommando but it's a venomtech + HALO combination. The blade actually spins out of the handle and to retract it you have to pull back single-action style while the tri blade rides on an internal track. That's all for weird ideas rn, I can kinda see how fixed blades are boring but I also don't know what else he could do right now. A gravity knife or flipper or balisong would be cool. But at a certain point it's easier to justify big fixed blades as impulse buys vs folders I have to find some sort of usage for.
>>65311544The point of diminishing returns I find is around 150ish. More than that and you're paying (overpaying IMO) for fancy handles.
>>65311190How i look at my knife when I consider using it for self defense is well at least someone else is gonna die with me and that's a better deal than I'll ever get otherwise.....
>>65314320Why not for the same price buy a Hipoint and make it so that only the nog would die?
>>65312220if everything comes down to personal preference then who's to say this or that steel or action is 'better'
I wish any other otf brand had even a quarter of the expertise that Microtech does with maximizing the lifespan and durability of both the chassis and internal components through many actuations. I've broken springs and the replacement springs sent to me on everything i've ever owned so far except my Microtechs. I just wish I knew what they were doing so differently from other companies to achieve this "graceful wear"
>>65314070>>65312493>>65312452>>65312220>>65311622Thank you for the feedback. Let me elaborate on why I am out of the blue thinking about getting a premium high end knife. My work has provided me a 60% off vendor coupon for pretty much any Benchmade or Kershaw knife on their respective websites. I figured this might be a good opportunity to get something nice without investing too much money into something I'm unfamiliar with. Any specific recommendations? Is it really so personal preference based that I should go to a sporting goods store and manhandle all their display models? Any retard traps with these brands that I should avoid?
>>65314577If you have a 60% coupon then you're fucking golden. Don't get Benchmade they have soft HRC and basically are the Glocks of the knife world: They were revolutionary decades ago but now coast on name recognition and keep jacking up their prices. Kershaw makes China knives and American made knives. Their American made knives are actually good and with your coupon, you can get one at the price of their China knives.Do you want/are switchblades legal where you live? If so, get a Kershaw Launch, choose whatever blade shape/handle shape appeals to you most. Try to get it in Magnacut, that's the best all around steel these days.Otherwise get a manual folder, the Kershaw Bel Air, or the Bel Air XL if you have larger hands. It's their version of the Benchmade Bugout which is a popular design as a nice lightweight EDC knife. Like I said Benchmade is Glock so a Bugout is basically a polymer striker fired pistol, everyone makes one nowadays. Again in Magnacut, it's a good all around stainless steel. All these knives will cost around 120-170ish usually but with your coupon you won't be spending that much anyways. And past that point you're paying for things like carbon fiber scales, titanium scales, zirconium inserts, things that add bling but not much else.
>>65314725The giga brain move is to buy the most expensive knife he can from Benchmade then resell it on knife swap bnib at 80% value then flip that into any brand of knife he wants preference one that does heat treats better than both Kai and Benchmade like Protech or CRK
>>65314577-I would actually say to go handle them in person. Manual of arms you can get used to. If you get a nicer model you can even disassemble and sand/polish bearing surfaces so it runs real smooth. But if the grip shape doesnt sit well in your hand you'll never like it. Check for tip up/down left/right pocket clip compatibility however you intend on carrying it.-If you DO get Bitchmade, the Seven, Crooked River, and Taggedout all look solid. I prefer 4" blades so you may want a smaller 2.5-3". Definitely check reddit unironically because they'll nitpick any concerns. Looking at Kershaw ones RN and a lot of them have very similar frames. If you fuck with the front finger groove, fantastic. If you don't you may be SOL. -One thing Benchmade DOES begrudgingly have is good aftermarket grip scale options but again do your research beforehand. >Does your work want you to have a knife to USE at work? What is the use case beyond general purpose? If you are actually needing it for boxes or whatever then just get a boxcutter. I don't know what your job is but if you actually need it as a tool check for how it would work in theoreticals like 1-handed opening/closing pivoting it against your pants or whatever. -At the end of the day if you care for and maintain your knife it's hard to say any modern knife is objectively BAD in that it will fail at what it needs to do. It is all levels of how sharp/durable/etc the blade is. Like handguns though, the one that feels the best in your hand is going to be the easiest to use as a tool so I would really recommend trying some out even just to see if your hand naturally likes more curved grips or straighter ones. >thread tax is a presentation sabre I won/am working on. hilt is nickel silver I lightly polished and cleaned up. it isnt as valuable as actual silver like some w/ hallmarks, but the level of detail and tightness of this all is fucking absurd. made by Mappin Bros who made really high end cutlery in the Victorian era
>>65314495How do you clean them out?My microtech otf usually just needed a teeny oil to be back in action but i think lint or something is up there now
>>65315420>Like handguns though, the one that feels the best in your hand is going to be the easiest to use as a tool This is terrible handgun advice that gets parroted all the time and I'm honestly tempted to call you a noguns for it.
>>65315500For the average person, yes, how it feels is important. Unless you are motivated internally to get good and overcome speedbumps or have external factors encouraging you, it is hard. >If the gun is unpleasant to hold or shoot, you won't want to shoot with it. If you dont want to shoot with it, you're less likely to go to the range. If you don't practice at the range, you're less able to use it to defend yourself. Therefore, a gun you enjoy shooting is objectively one of the most important parts in choosing one. Yes clearly we're all autistic fucks who either enjoy 500 rounds from a G3 in a tank top or muzzle brake'd dracos or .50bmg 1911s that dislocate our wrist. But you want a tool to be compatible with your body or at the very least have someone who shows you how to adjust yourself to utilize it properly. We're not talking about Lorcan or Jimenez or Phoenix types of guns or knives here where there are objectively bad answers. Given that the choices being discussed are Benchmade & kershaw, both of which pass the basic standards and are both solid mid-range options in fact, 'buy the midrange knife that feels the best in your hand' is not bad advice at all. FWIW even if the heat treat is shitty or parts break, Benchmade has a fairly solid warranty. If anon is looking for a knife he wants to be proud of/enjoy, why is it wrong to recommend one he likes to use?
>>65315476There are enough disassembly videos online. If you got a triwing body that'll be harder but otherwise, if you've ever done more than field strip a pistol or AR, you can probably disassemble it. PC mod mats & screw containers/magnetized holders are definitely recommended for parts though.
>>65311544There isn't one except that some people like to carry around expensive things for clout reasons. That's not an invalid reason but it's certainly not for practical purposes.
>>65315584Hello gun brother, I don't really have a comment... Nice gun I guess... It does feel comfy in the hands. Also my most carried knife because it's so light.
unless you've actually taken a human life with your gun, you're a noguns in my eyes.
Guys in order to save money on gas I got a Tesla. Now I need a knife that allows me to escape it in case it catches on fire. Something with serrations to cut the belt with a glass breaker. Recommend me something under a hundred bucks, thanks.
>>65317302>Buying a Tesla>In the year of our lord 2026I'm not even shitting on electric in general, but come on. Anyway, you don't even need a knife for that, a seat belt cutter with glass breaker (because good luck opening the doors either). Serrations aren't a requirement for that and they're easy enough to Google.
>>65317377if we are generous he bought one earlier
>>65317377Those aren't as fun...
>>65314487Everything's a tradeoff. Yes, M390 is better than 440C and yes, Axis is better than nail nick, but what I believe to be "better" may be a dealbreaker for the next guy. As you go up in quality, whether it be steel, action, scales, internals, or whatever, you will reach the point of diminishing returns for your buck. For some, it's about $50-$70 with an axis lock and CPM154. For others, it's $250 with an Ultratech in M390. And for others, it's a cheap box cutter. You have to decide what's worth it to you, what feels best in your hands, how much effort you want to put into cleaning and sharpening. >>65315476Willing to disassemble yourself?Clean with alcohol and a toothbrush, re-apply oil and white lithium grease, reassemble, actuate a few times. Not willing to disassemble?Blow out with compressed air, deploy OTF, put a drop or two on the top and bottom of the blade's body (the thick part that rides in the chassis), then actuate a few times.
Sebenza is still breddy good.
>>65317534Or you can just get a Magnamax Manix 2 for $135 with edge retention that’s slightly better than M390 with better toughness and rust resistance. Then just be done with it.
>>65317570Is that in stock anywhere?
>>65317591NTA but from the price it sounds like FKS's preorder, added by request as one of their Spyderco sale options:https://freedomknifeshop.com/products/spyderco-manix-2-folding-knife-3-375-magnamax-satin-plain-blade-black-g10-handles-ball-bearing-lock.html
>>65317954NTAWhat a deal.I just simply don't need it. If anyone is absolutely knifeless, though, I'd say that's the one to get.
>>65317969How does it compare to something like this?https://www.bladehq.com/item--Spyderco-Tenacious-Knife-Blue-Titanium-Black--202016$5 more and I like the color better. The black is kinda boring.
>>65318139A tenacious is a cheaper made in China model. The base model is only $73. That's a souped up titanium frame lock version but with the same 8cr13mov steel. The Manix is Eric's favorite Spyderco and has Magnamax. It's personal preference. That Manix 2 with Magnamax for only $135 is the best deal I've seen in a while though.
>>65318152Can you change the black color into something else later on?
>>65318180probably
>>65318180there are aftermarket scales. I've never changed scales on a knife.
>>65317954Great deal, but I am a hater of the structural lanyard tube. Why does spyderco hate screwing their knives together?>>65318139That one has a much less impressive steel for the blade, so it will dull easier. Also the handle will feel a bit slicker because it is smooth-ish metal. Though overall the tenacious is a good design imo, I like how there's no choil area, it's very space efficient.
>>65317570magnamax is just a straight improvement over m390 in every way, i hope microtech upgrades to it eventually. Prolly will take them 4-5 years to dial in the heat treat properly afterwards tho.
>>65317534As far as steel goes I do wonder at what point we are reaching the vertical asymptote of steel for lack of a better term. Like Magnamax is objectively better than 440c but what are the real world results of this? If your new steel is 40% improved from the last one, does it translate to significant practical benefits? Obviously generalizing here and also speaking more towards the general public as well. Edge retention seems to be the one that is easiest to objectively quantify beyond rust-resistance. I wouldn't ever tell anyone to go out of their way to get a 440c knife today but at the same time, if someone had a 440c knife they kept oiled, sharpened very well, and didn't go out of their way to stress test, would there really be anything they are missing out on from not having Super Saiyan 4 Boltero Magnavox M43k Dawn of War steel outside of not having to sharpen it as often? I would like to see comparative tests that try to formulate things into tangible measurements. If you took 440c say as the default, and had steel comparisons based around that, for example 440c needs sharpened X number of times and can last Y number of boxes at a Z averaged amount of force, would Elmax last Y*10 amount of boxes at the same Z ratio? Would it take X*5 amount of passes with a sharpener though? So much of it comes down to objective materials science numbers but impossible to quantify subjective use case numbers and I wish we had a better system for translating that to more tangible benefits. Or conversely, understanding how little of a real world impact the improvements have. Are my new knives better because I buy superior m390 and s45v steel? Or is it because I spent the past 15 years learning how to care for them and sharpen them more properly? At least with guns you can measure velocity and stability and ogive and the accuracy of the barrel.
>>65318812The invention of powder metallurgy and the steels it produces have generated some very significant real world leaps. That said for the most part we are talking about folding pocket knives here. That trusty old pocket knife your grandpappy had that never failed him and is a family heirloom? It's probably trash compared to D2 steel, which itself is considered a "budget" steel today, you can get D2 for under 50. But back when it was invented it was considered a super steel. And any powder metallurgy steel is even better. S30V is now on "budget" knives, you can get it for under 100 easy. Magnacut and Magnamax are basically magic compared to the steels your father had for pocket knives. But in the end we are talking pocket knives and it depends on use case and there are definitely people using pocket knives for things they shouldn't. Most of us will use them to open Amazon packages. For that, the benefit to super steels is how long it stays sharp and how easy it is to resharpen. Maybe also stainless if you use it to peel fruit or something. It's important to note that if you see people who actually use their knives for hard use on a daily basis, like a farmhand or something, it's people use Milwaukee Fastbacks or some shit beater knife they can easily replace for 10 dollars. New super steels might be "better' but you're also paying for the "newness". D2 isn't a budget steel because it got worse, it's because it became more widely available and people learned how to work it, and thus it was easier to make into knives. Same thing happened with S30V and same thing is happening to Magnacut right now, you can find Magnacut knives under 100 if you look. So yes any modern super steel you choose will be greater than what you need while also probably being overkill. But it's nice to have cool new things.
>>65318812Also there are plenty of people who do tests exactly the kind you are talking about on Youtube. Now they all have their flaws and of course edge geometry and heat treatment matters more than steel itself (direct quote from Dr. Thomas) but you can get a general idea of how much rope or cardboard you can cut before it needs sharpening and generally yes, the super steels will stay sharp longer than older steels if they were designed for that.
>>65317570> Or you can just I'm reminded of this twitter post: https://x.com/Devon_Eriksen_/status/1919369844173963736I'm not a fan of Spyderco for a number of reasons, so I wouldn't, but that was basically my point of the other post. >>65318191Generally not that difficult. Do it over a towel or something so things don't wander off, and it'll be easy. >>65318408Honestly can't say. I know Tony gets really nice deals on the M390 and Bohler's actually sent some guys to tour the shops before. I could see him switching to MagnaMax for the "semi-customs" like the Select and Shadows to give it a shot, but for everything? Dunno. >>65318894100% this.
>>65318894>>65319156Thanks for the replies. Yeah it was mostly rhetorical in a sense. No one wants a BAD knife the same way no one wants a BAD rifle but there is a large area of "for what you are 99% going to use this for, X is good enough." My AUG probably isnt sub MOA but I don't need it to be sub MOA. Reminds me of graphics to an extent as well. 144i to 240 was a huge increase. 720 to 1080p was a huge increase. 1080 to 1440? Less of an increase. 1440 to 4k? Yeah I guess it looks nicer but you want a big tv in 4k, if you have a 27" monitor you might as well just stay 1440 because of the scale. I think factors of 2 are the minimum to see any noticeable improvement IRL eg. you only have to sharpen half as often as the last upgrade, but as things get nicer and nicer, noticeable improvements are going to be less perceptible. Don't get me wrong, I want single molecule edge steel at 500 rockwell hardness as much as anyone else. But I also admit I get knives regardless of any sort of pragmatic utility IRL just because I like new steel and machining technology. I'm always excited to see what new developments have arisen but I don't want to fall into obsessing single-digit percentage increases as if they are fundamentally game changers. Kinda like AR15/18s, yeah HK416 or LMT are gonna be better than a Colt or BCM but the changes are more of a refinement. I do wonder about laminated blades with modern hyper steels almost like viking swords or katanas. Super sharp edge retention edge steel & more durable steel behind that type shit. If nothing else I would kill for someone to make true legitimate wootz out of some high end steels though im not sure what you'd want to pick.>Thread tax is a better photo of my 6dg hilt. One of the few legitimately unique hilts the British army allowed. Very very few surviving examples of the fanciest interpretation of the pattern left like you see here. Made by Wilkinson, would take a craftsman an entire day to make.
>>65290348>>65290348What kind of knife is the best for self defense against animals in the woods? Like deer, bear, wolf, etc? Do you have any recommendations? I can't carry guns to this forest
>>65319307long fixed blade, sharp edge and stabby with a handguard
>>65319293Look if you like new steel and machining technology that's great, and you should get them. But I will say this:>I don't want to fall into obsessing single-digit percentage increases as if they are fundamentally game change The generational leaps already happened long ago and we are and have been in the single digit percentage increases era for decades now. Like I said D2, mogs all the blades your forefathers had and I would say in my humble opinion, the last generational leap was when powder metallurgy became a thing, which started in the 70s. The difference between D2 and S30V is not as stark and everything past S30V is definitely in that single digit percentage increase zone, if not even lower. Even the hardcore user will not see a noticeable difference between S30V and Magnamax. To use your example, it's not muskets to autoloaders, we're just doing different flavors of AR 15 right now. That said I happily buy new steels as well, and yes 99% of my needs I could do with my 10 dollar boxcutter. It's also important to note that a lot of knife content creators are being unrealistic. For example: In my opinion, nobody should ever use a folding knife for batoning wood. Just fucking don't do that. Use an axe like a normal person. Or use a fixed blade knife at least. The only reason I could possibly think of is if you were in a survival situation and had literally nothing else. I've seen dozens of videos about folding knives that are 'good' for batoning wood because they're made of this super steel or they have this proprietary locking system that can withstand this much torture but I view those the same way I view tests that leave a gun in freezing water overnight or in an oven. As entertainment, and it should never influence a decision to purchase one way or another.
>>65319339I guess I am a 'wait and upgrade when it really matters' sorta person. I still use a 1080ti not because new gpus aren't better but because they aren't better /enough/. I want a legitimate significant upgrade. Suppose it depends on your outlook/personality but I like waiting until something has changed enough it actually goes up a 'level'. My S30V/Elmax/M390/whatever knives will probably be good enough for the rest of my life, but when I do get new ones, I want it to be worthwhile so I don't mind waiting.
>>65319443We'd need another leap in manufacturing like powder metallurgy.
>>65317377>serrations especially designed for seatbelts>carbide glass breaker>even comes with a rape whistles for women and men who drive Prius/Teslas
I just bought a gen 4 wicked edge.Im probably retarded but i need that sharp as fuck edge and im to autistic to have anything less than precisionBlade geometry>everything else
>>65319869Never understood serations on the base of the blade. Its like the onegood job serstions are good at and you ruin it.
I want a knife that's as slicey or even more than an Opinel but doesn't have any nail nicks, thumbstuds or impressions on the blade. I like Opinels but when I slice cheese with them, cheese gets stuck in the logo and stuff. Basically I want a knife to cut fruit, cheese, sausages and stuff with.
>>65320524It desperately needed an update, no one is going to use the whistle like that. And after a lot of use all of the old blood/vomit/sweat will make it useless. The glass breaker is also garbage and can sometimes retract as you’re hitting the glass. The Benchmade Triage is not much better. Most EMTs I see in the field uses a Leatherman Raptor.
>>65320526You mean like a regular kitchen knife? I’m sure you already have that somewhere in your house.
I don't like the compression lock. Awkward to use left handed, and it doesn't hold the knife closed well at all. Fidgitfags were a mistake.
any california cucks here? >want to put fixed blade mora in emergency kit in trunk of car>remember that concealed fixed blade knives are an automatic felony in cuckforniajust
>>65319339>single digitI mean magnamax has 20% better wear resistance and 100% higher toughness than m390. Corrosion resistance is a bit harder to put an exact number on but it's a little more resistant too.

>>65320738That's not how it works. For it to qualify as carrying concealed it has to be within easy access. Otherwise it would be a felony to move with your kitchen knives packed in boxes. Or to buy said knives in the first place, in the process of driving home from the store in the bag you bought them in. Not that you should care about violating this "law" in the first place.
