I have actually been considering getting an MR 11” to make basically that, as the marines have started rolling out. I lose the SPR capability the M27 has though, as well as good ballistics out of cheap ball ammo. I know 16.5” is long and 70+gr ammo makes short barrels very competitive, but being able to perform well with ball is a nice benefit

>>
>>65292313
I mean idk was just speaking about ballistics, ideally shot placement would be the same across the board. Though I guess with M27gery it would be a little easier, longer barrel and bipods and all

>>
>>65291906
>broader issue
Sorry I don't understand what you're getting at. That developing a good large envelope reliable instantiation of a 300blk is difficult because of the lack of standardization in both platform characteristics (barrel lengths, ports, actions etc) and ammunition?

>>65291909
Sorta jelly, sorta not. Where there be water, there be people. Only so much ammo to go around.
>300blk sbrs are ridiculously dirty
I haven't really noticed that? Probably near 1800 rounds or so through the LR300blk project and while I've been cleaning it easily every 300-400 rounds, even then it isn't terrible. You're not talking about the filler shit are you?
>move it whenever I'm bored
IMO if the adjustment, whether gas block, carrier, riflesneed etc, can avoid seizing through a typical cleaning interval, say 300-700rnds suppressed, then it is good to go.

>>65291944
Alternatives for what? For a 300blk complete pistol? Why not build?

I think that they aligned both valve apertures in the same plane, but the valve itself sits slightly port/starboard depending on setting due to the machined retention groove for the roll pin on the right hand side of the receiver, and so the result is that the valve aperture is not centered on the gas tube orifice depending on setting position. Honestly when I took the thing apart to measure it I wasn't very impressed with the execution. The idea I think is decent.

>>
>>65293723
My nigga. Uh because it’s not quite as heavy as the HK heavy profile, closer to a medium profile, but enough bigger to still be good at both sustained fire and accuracy! Not only that, with 16.5” inches of length, you really do get great ballistics out of virtually all 5.56 ammo available. Ok guys, i need your help to choose the right barrel for my brownells 14,5 build.

This ist the build.
https://www.brownells-deutschland.de/AR-15-ABR-15-145-223-Rem

But i want it with a criterion Barrel:
https://www.brownells-deutschland.de/CORE-SERIES-223-WYLDE-CHROME-LINED-BARRELS-FOR-AR-15-CRITERION-BARRELS-INC-CORE-223-WYLDE-145-1-8-TAPERD-MID-LENGTH-CHROME-LINE-THRD-Black-165-lbs-1-2-28-145-Tapered-430108525

The question is, which profile to choose?
Standard m4, tapered, pencil?

What do you guys think?

I want to buy a geisele urgi rail to build a poormansversion of it. As close as you can get in germany.

Barring a chad M27 build, taper profile is the best of the options. If the M4 profile means govt, then don’t do that one. It’s essentially a reverse taper, where the front is an HBAR but behind the gas block it’s a pencil profile. Originally created to solve a problem that was misdiagnosed, it serves no purpose really

Why are so many optics rated to like 50+ feet of submersion? Who out there besides the Marines is taking their rifles into the ocean
>>
>>65293506
>Have you tried this buffer?
No but in the winter when I inevitably get into some cycle of consuming when I'm bored and got nothing else to do but work on my PCC I'll check it out, I just have the cheaper short stroke buffer and its what I got to 700 rounds suppressed before the action started getting so sluggish it somehow threw a 9mm round into the action and I had to pop the stock off to clear it, like sticking my fingers into the engine block of a 1998 Toyota Corolla that last had an oil change in 1999.
>>
>>65294245
It’s just the nitrogen in the optic housing creating pressure to keep moisture out rated to submersion, like a bottle of soda can handle up to X meters but not like you’re going to drink it under water.
>>

Unfortunately I don't own any tools. I might in the future but I don't really have the space for tons of guns so I don't see any point in doing so any time soon. >URGI
If you can get a super duty, please get that. The URGI lockup works, but it's definitely inferior to the center tab. Unless you're really set on building a URGI clone, because it would be difficult to get a super duty receiver that is black and handguard that is DDC/FDE.
>>
>>65294525
I really regret buying my urgi upper over a super duty.
>>
>>65294533
The nice thing about the URGI rail is you aren't locked into Geissele's center tab so you can throw it on whatever receiver you want. However, the side screws are a bit of a pain in the ass (they do work though). SD just feels all around more solid.
>>
>>65294547
how often are you changing your rail guy?
but the protruding tab is on the handguard anyway it's not like you couldn't use a super duty receiver with other rails, there'd just be a little empty notch for no reason
>>
>>65294654
I mean, I've taken this one off 4 times. Having a rail that comes off easy means you don't damage or stress the screws or locking mechanism, less marring, and makes actually working on you gas system less of a chore.

Its a worthwhile feature to factor into your buying decision.

I would be suprised SLR rails aren't more popluar here, but their website basically screams at you that at least one person who works there has guages and tattoos so not all that shocking really.

>>

>Changing
It's the lockup I'm talking about.
>>
>>65294681
yes I know. The lockup system the super duty uses does not preclude you from installing a completely different style of rail with a different lockup system (unless that system requires its own proprietary upper receiver).
>>
>>65294687
The super duty handguard does, which you already acknowledged.
>>
>>65294689
Follow me big guy: You CAN install ANY type of rail that works with a milspec upper, onto a geissele super duty upper. You CANNOT install a super duty handguard onto a mispec upper.
The SD upper has an innie not an outie, so it does not prevent you from installing other rails
>>
>>65294678
Sure, I guess I was just throwing my loose change about how easy install features are nice being loosely related to topic on hand.
>>
>>65294693
Chief, I don't know if you just misread or what, but I specifically said that the URGI handguard works with any upper while the super duty handguard does not.
>The nice thing about the URGI rail is you aren't locked into Geissele's center tab so you can throw it on whatever receiver you want.
>>
>>65294711
oooh. Yeah I read that backwards. Was confused because it's a decent rail but the big draw is the center tab. There's not really a reason to use the MK16 actual urgi rail other than cloning

Hey that could be me soon! After 3 days of researching this in my spare time at work... (1.5hrs)

Every compact platform sucks and we should all just agree that fighting should take place outside.

Suggesting an MP5 to normies like me is like telling your friend to buy a Cayenne.

You can skip over every PDW that has come out in the last 10 years.

You get to pick between Temu Colt SMGs that suck, CMMG options that the German government would allow to be exported for lack of military grade anything, and .300blk AR.

.300blk stubby AR is basically it if you are trying to have something remotely interesting and at least conjecturally useful.

I've heard of and seen this malfunction with bogs before. Do you have a Lingle lower using CZ Scorpion mags? I'm pretty sure that eliminates it.

>>65294375
If your LGS will charge a reasonable assembly cost, or if you can find a friend to help, building a 300blk is definitely better than buying one, especially because that means you can install something like a Riflespeed or Superlative Arms adjustable gas block, your own choice of buffer and spring etc etc. A lot of the tuning will depend on the gassing characteristics of your suppressor and barrel.

Literally just false. Supers to supers 9" 300blk beats or is comparable to 9" 7.62x39, specifics of load depending. As soon as you get into dedicated defensive supers in 300blk you absolutely BTFO any available 7.62x39 terminal effect for the same barrel lengths (in comparable barrel lengths, Krink and SBR etc so 8"-12")

Rhodie 6 I think would be a solid choice. Sorta looks like a KAC can so it can be clone iNsPiReD on a Mk18. Backpressure is considered decent. Not extremely low, but better than most trad cans by a solid margin, and the at muzzle auditory signature reduction is decent. Flash seems good enough that when paired with quality ammunition it should be acceptable.

>>65294855
A2 hates 300blk for various reasons but has SEVERAL platforms that overlap partially with the POU. He has a suppressed TP9 and a suppressed fulls size MP5. I went the route of suppressed MP5k and suppressed 300blk SBR.
See the fork in the road?
Did you see those Phantom Defense 238gr and 242gr dedicated defensive/hunting subs I linked? What about the Centurion barrel I linked also?
Bonus points if you build your subs only gun with an FRT. I would be super curious what a well tuned subs only 300blk FRT AR could feel like in terms of recoil impulse and control.

Inb4 another milled AKM moment but I thought ~8" 7.62x39 guns were still Krinks no? Whether Yugo or standard AKM pattern?
Draco be running the streets regardless so...
Point is the idea that 300blk proponents are objectively incorrect or intellectually dishonest when talking about terminal effect of 300blk and somehow conflating 16" 300blk performance with 8" 300blk performance and simultaneously sandbagging the compared 7.62x39 by only considering ~8" 7.62x39....
Well that just isn't true. You can compare apples to apples, 300blk defensive/hunting supers out of a reasonable 8"-10" barrel and the round beats out 7.62x39" solidly in comparable barrel lengths... not to mention the AND of subs and platform ergos vs an AK yada yada
That being said once the Buktek Fatty Jaguar arrives I do intend to mess around a bit more with 7.62x39 Subs at least in the SKS and the Type56.

>Suppressor performance of the 9"
>Suppressor length of the 5"
>Reliability of the supersonic
>Gassing to cycle subsonics
>You simply come across people ceding utility in these platforms to make them actually work.

Most subs are still going to be optimized for 7"-9", both in terms of powder burn for sound signature reduction AND maximum velocity while staying subsonic for terminal effect, not to mention gassing as well. A 5.5" barrel is WELL on the far edge of the envelope. Sure we're accepting subsonic terminal effect, but we still are trying to kill shit. Energy goes with velocity squared... and even a 242gr projectile gets beat out by a 147gr if the 147gr is going 1050fps but the 242gr is going ~800fps which guess what kinda subsonic velocity the 5.5" barrel is going to yield.

This video does a decent job introducing some of the intricacies involved in the balance of at muzzle signature and cycling reliability with different barrel lengths and powder types for 300blk subs:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnOYdun0InU&t=1015s

The extra 3" of barrel IMO is a good call for ALL of the reasons discussion. Reliability, signature both auditory and visual, terminal energy etc etc, AND if you do decide to make it a subs/supers gun (the Scythe STM honestly can probably handle supers just fine so long as you're not putting a YUGE emphasis on FRT/auto) now the 8" barrel REALLY is making a big difference vs the 5.5" with respect to all of that.
The place to shave the length IMO will be in the buffer/stock area, and in the suppressor and muzzle device and mount selection. I would GLADLY take 3" extra barrel and opt for a 1"-2" shorter can and a 1" shorter stock/buffer tube setup.

>>65294921
ELW is a fine profile IMO. Yes in the age of FRTs it is a bit on the slimmer side, but if you get it CHF CL and don't abuse anything it will be fine.
>issues on the lighter profile
I can't quantify this or even cite anything, this is first principles hypothesizing, but it has been observed in other platforms and cases, but lighter less rigid barrels will have more static flex on them for a given suppressor weight so you do get a larger can on/off POI shift vs a more rigid barrel. This is why I like fluting. Rigidity without the weight. I wouldn't worry too much about it. ELW is good. Government profile is straight retarded and unacceptable in 2026.

>>65294925
Ehh... Have you seen the gel tests for Phantom? My bigger issue with discreet is their insistence on using relatively light subs, 188-190gr...
238-242gr from Phantom is legitimately more energy.

Stainless barrel.

If I'm reading this correctly the shorter barrel I go the more velocity/energy maxing I want to do in my amm selection? I have been looking at minimum fps expansion threshold in my browsing.
>>65294957
But with an FRT I believe it changes the equation a bit, carving a hole in a torso faster = better. Plus, I'm kitted for AR mags and parts already.

The handgun package sucks when compared to a rifle/stocked weapon though. A handgun is a bit of a coping weapon in comparison thanks to recoil, accuracy, how it's handled, magazine capacity, how far it can reach. Excels in certain aspects but the drawbacks are huge compared to a rifle. Their concealability is what makes them a staple however.

>238-242gr from Phantom is legitimately more energy
If energy was all that mattered we wouldn't be hunting with 300 blackout subsonics.

I have posted several examples of their subsonic ammunition behaving consistently and functioning as intended. If you can provide the same breadth of data for phantom defense and not a single gel test then I will take your arguments more seriously.

Might as well go to 8.6 blk subs it all you care about is mass and thus energy since the velocity won't be changing. In which case discreet ballistics is still the better choice

>Loaded to same capacity, same bullet weight, 7.62x39 will be faster.
Sick strawman because why the fuck would anyone do that?
No boomer handloads, boutique ammo fine, show 7.62x supers BTFOing 300blk supers in comparable barrel lengths of interest 8"-10" or so.
Take those Phantom supers for example and the data I posted in thread (1366ft lbs from 10.5" with a barnes hunting projectile)
Post the 7.62x39 setup that is besting that in comparable barrel length.
Does 7.62x39 in the abstract have more case capacity? Like yeah wow a bigger volume is bigger holy shit. But if it isn't actually being utilized and combined with powder and projectile in a way that beats 300blk, then the point doesn't matter.

>>65294959

Bottom also has like 28% more mass, and totally solid expansion. Phantom likely fine.

>>65294993
>minimum fps expansion threshold in my browsing.
Smart. I didn't even think of that. Dude 5.5" is too short. At that point go MP5k or TP9 or similar 9mm based and net the even better sound suppression.
Like I said, save the length elsewhere. In the can, in the buffer tube and stock. I'm not saying buy a Tisha... But a Tisha is 4" long... An Omega300 is 6" long. Think full package.

>>65295003
>if you can provide
With all sincerity I've watched like 5-10 shill gel vids of phantom subs on youtube. They expand. They work. It ain't rocket science. They have more mass also.
I'm not saying discreet is bad. They've been in the game way longer. Way more data I'll admit. I'm saying Phantom is likely fine and might be better thanks to additional mass

Strawman of comparing cartridges with equal conditions to actually compare them? You really want me to show you at the same bullet weight and barrel length 7.62x39 being faster than 300 blackout? Is this really new information to you or are you just reiterating that you can find nas3 300 blk ammo and not 7.62x39 but also something about boutique ammo (how nas3 ammo isn't boutique I will never know)?

Here is a direct comparison using same bullet weight and manufacturer. I eagerly await your moving goalpost

7.62x39 is lacking in projectile development. There are 2 good projectiles, and unless you do franken loads with 110 TAC-TX (with associated possible accuracy and COAL issues) they under-perform with barrel lengths shorter than 12"
The subsonic situation isn't very good either. Hornady could have make an excellent x39 sub bullet with the 255gr, but instead they chose to make another subx turd that just tumbles
Blackout has a lot of bullets that perform well at subsonic and supersonic barrel lengths of 8-9"
>>65294942
Well I absolutely agree with wuggy that anything less than 7 is too short, and most of your commercial stuff is going to be metered with 8-10" barrels in mind. It's about a 50fps fall off per inch below that (so your 9" 1000fps load is 850-900 at 7"]
>>65294945
XCR gas system cycles almost every x39 sub on the market in blackout/mini length, even with flow through. Standard length system needs hybrid or traditional baffle stack to cycle properly
Blackout still has better bullets in almost every case with barrels in the 8-10" range. x39 really needs 12"
>>65294951
Mp5k with subs is certainly a vibe, a lot of fun for birb and rabbit hunting
>>65295083
>case capacity doesn't matter if your expanding projectile can't expand reliably at a given barrel length
x39 problem is lack of bullets. If we had a fat 120gr TAC-TX for the x39 COAL this would be a different discussion
