>>65298865Black Diamond IMO are overpriced and under deliver. I've seen my friend's Storm Spot or w.e just randomly start acting up and giving firmware looking issues. I recently picked up this 16340 powere Flextail. IP67 water proof. Cheap as shit, light and small. My biggest complaint is the red can't be set as dim as I would like. Retard chink companies. The fact that it is 16340 powered is sick IMO. These days headlamps ought to be judged primarily not by their output as all seem to do well, but by things like size, weight, waterproofing, reliability, battery life, user interface and controls, charging/battery configuration etc. A nice truly low intensity red is hard to find IME except on dedicated tactical lights. I REALLY like my Streamlight Sidewinder Stalk on my helmet. I had a princetontec for YEARS. Glad to be rid of that shit. Great example of a bloated company that got lazy after getting government contracts. Ironically enough even now Princetontec headlamps are quite far behind in terms of output.
help me out please guys.i am looking for a pair of lightweight, quiet, stretchy black pants ideally with cargo pockets. any recs appreciated. thanks
>>65298907>overpriced and under deliverThe LED tech evolves so quickly, of course there are better units than one from 2014. What I found with the Revolt is the color temp isn't great, but having it is better than a handheld. Honestly, a kids light is great because they are simple to operate without thinking press numbers/modes. Rechargable is required feature for me, but a fully charged 16340 in your pocket would be even better for weekend+ run time.
>>65298924>any recs appreciated. thanksWhat you really want (and don't know it) is an LED lantern.
>>65298907>I REALLY like my Streamlight Sidewinder StalkNice, had this in my cart for a long time now and balked at the price.
In case anyone is wondering the Steripen Adventurer opti which is only specified as working with a pair of CR123s does indeed work on rechargeable higher voltage (3.6-4.2V vs 3.0-3.2V) 16340 batteries. I treated 14L of water in 1L batches using a sort of SOCOM SURGE cycle without issue. Bump for curious what other devices work on dual fuel 16340 and CR123>>65298939That is form 2014? Yeesh that needs replacing IMO. There are some solid modern headlamp options. I like my Nightcore NU25 a lot. Very small, very minimal, good UI, solid output. I wish it were fully IP67 or comparable waterproof, like most non-tactical lights the red mode doesn't get dim enough, and it would be sweet if it were 16340 or similar quick swapable battery. >>65298948Yeah it is a bit pricey admittedly but it can't be beat IMO and offers the best combination of features and capabilities. I do NVG 2 gun shoots sometimes plus just general NVG training and larping and I find that it works excellent. The flexible stalk allows for aiming for umbrella lighting, direct FOV, or downward depending. Has IR mode, white, and color (mine is set to red mode) with good brightness controls on ALL modes in addition to a strobe and a lockout. It is advertised as dual fuel AA or CR123 which means it likely has some voltage regulation flexibility so it might work with 16340s as well, I need to try that. and I'll report back. I bought mine for close to $140 on Amazone prime, bit less here:https://brightguy.com/product/streamlight-sidewinder-stalk-helmet-light/Well worth the price IMO, slides right into the ARC rail on my helmet.

Well, update on the weird pricing situation from Gilliam. They are discontinuing most of the lineup and will be optimizing towards 1-2 models for each protection category. It appears $150/plate IS the new price for the 1635 going forward, which is hilariously cheap for an Alumina-PE multi-hit Level IV / RF3 but that's what the power of China gets you. Actually has Militech on the ropes with that one.Test reports are good but the BFD is high at 39mm, so not a lot of safety margin. For reference the Hesco 4403 does about 30mm per Buff's recently-released test, and that's after getting penetrated twice by out-of-spec M2AP and post-drop.The 8002 is also going to be discontinued. If anyone wants above-XSAPI protection and doesn't mind the weight, I would shoot them an offer now. It's 8.3lb and 1.2" but stops tungsten-core .300 Winmag Swiss P AP and other very serious business. M995 / M993 as well. $628/set but they are entertaining offers. I'd reckon $450-500 is in the ballpark. I'm surprised that one didn't sell, honestly. Makes me wonder how many Colossi Adept is actually moving if the market can't even support a poorfag turbo-XSAPI.
>>65299913>They are discontinuing most of the lineup and will be optimizing towards 1-2 models for each protection category.Like that he's consolidating his lineup and getting rid of that cheat ringed plate.>I'm surprised the 8002 didn't sell moreIt weighs 8lbs and is single curve. Not exactly ideal, even if it does stop extremely rare threats like .300wm swiss p. Also gill isn't the best at advertising.
>>65301041>Like that he's consolidating his lineupInteresting that the monkey model Archon (9969) is discontinued. Did Ganor cut him off on the SiC-TiB2 once he realized the 9969 was going to steal Archon sales?>getting rid of that cheat ringed plate.Trying to compete with especially cheapo chinesium is like trying to argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. Gilliam cannot beat 996 sweatshop labor.>It weighs 8lbs and is single curveNot to mention it's a weird 10.3x12.3 SAPI cut and it's 1.2" thick, so I would have concerns about fitting platebags.>gill isn't the best at advertisingNot sending everything he has to Buffman will go down as his greatest blunder. I guarantee the 1635 would sell like hotcakes at $300/set if he did that and it did well.
What’s the closest thing to a lc2/m1956 pistol belt? I’m looking for something that just goes over clothes/jacket. Not needing a padding war belt. Not needing suspenders. Don’t want to deal with inner belt. I’m almost to the point of attempting a buckle change on an lc2.

>>65302603>rated for plates up to 5lb and 3/4" thick.Basically locks you into running SRTs unless you got that PBZSA money.
>>65302643If you got that, you ain't wearing Condor
>>65302660Or maybe it's a psychological trick saar. Wearing a cheap condor carrier will make people think you're a dalit so they ignore you but in reality your plates are brahmin.
Gonna give my dude Jake at Adept a ring ring and ask for a low-vis version of the Adept Emperor that still stops M2AP but loses the drop protection so it weighs 4.4lb.It'll be $3,500 for a pair of plates. Then I'm gonna put em in a fifty dollar carrier, trip on the sidewalk, and ruin my front plate instantly./gq/ lyfe.
>>65299913>>65301060What's the closest to the 1635 within +$50 per plate out of other manufacturers?I was looking into the 1635s and the newer pricing is quite appealing. Also I wish more companies made Finnish M05 pattern carriers. Love that scheme.
>>653027531. Militech RF3 Alumina, but Militech still reams you on shipping.2. LAPG L4CA is a little over your budget but tests really well with Buffman. Single curve however.3. Hesco 4403 on sale can sometimes get into the mid-300s per set but is much heavier and has a safety margin issue.4. Policesurp Protech 2230s can be had for same price as the 1635s, are a pound heavier each, but have a huge safety margin advantage. The fundamental issue with the 1635 is that it runs high on BFD at about 39mm and it's very light for an Alumina-PE Level IV. I don't think it has solid safety margin and the multi-hit is maybe not the best. No free lunch rule applies.
>>65302776That BFD is quite high but doesn't soft armor and the carrier material supposed to absorb some of that?Quite a tight margin within that price range, seems one would have to go up to +$100 per plate to get better BFD performance and multicurve. How bad are Militech's shipping costs? I am in CONUS.
>>65302872>but doesn't soft armor and the carrier material supposed to absorb some of that? The plate is intended to be worn standalone. You can run soft behind it and that'll beef it up, but at a major weight / thickness / bulk penalty. The carrier won't do a huge amount there unless it's padded and/or has CAPs.>Quite a tight margin within that price rangeYeah, the problem is that you traditionally need $400/set for basic IVs and these options are all trying to lowball that. The Hesco 4601 is in most respects, aside from being thicker, an upgrade from the 1635 but runs $900/set from guys like Sierra. It's NIJ cert however so it has been extensively and impartially tested.Militech's RF3 Black undercuts that and by all accounts is still solid. I would take 4601s over it purely because I don't trust Militech not to send ringers to youtubers.>How bad are Militech's shipping costs?Last I checked they're still throwing on $50 for prepaid import fees, not counting regular shipping so ballpark $75-80 since it's coming in from China. Gilliam makes the plates in North Carolina using two boomers and a zoomer labor and a mix of mostly Chinese / Italian materials, so he can undercut Militech since he has basically no staffing costs. He did just move into a warehouse from the garage so I dunno what his future plan is gonna be. If he keeps working with Adept he may have a 4.5lb turbo-$$$ IV in the pipeline.
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY FUCKERS, THE NIJ 0101.07 COMPLIANT PRODUCT LIST IS LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!!!!https://nij.ojp.gov/topics/equipment-and-technology/body-armor/ballistic-resistant-armor#0-0

>>65302672>/gq/ lyfe.Legit.
>>65303226Pretty sure on purpose, because the CPL is barebones (40 listed models) and they were going to wait until it had more options. The time has come. Adept, Gilliam, RMA, Combat Systems, Turtle, Stealth. Every armor company that has dodged NIJ certification now has no excuse. Tick tock! >>65303233You need to buy boron carbide plates from Turkish outfit KIM, which somehow certified a B4C Level IV before Hesco did? Now we need a Turkish armor infographic. First shotguns... now plates.
Behold, the ENTIRE NIJ 0101.07 CPL. I see a considerable portion of this is from MIGUEL CABALLERO S.A.S, doing business as MC INTERNATIONAL and C.I.A. MIGUEL CABALLERO S.A.S.Most of it is the same five models repeated with different companies. I've never even heard of SAFE BACK HOME LLC and Readynow Tactical. This is UNEQUAL.
>>65304230How much do I have to PAY to get on this list and to WHOM?I am a LOBBYIST, if that matters.
>>65304238It's EASY.1. Start an armor company selling $50 pieces of shit metal, like AR500!2. Tell the NIJ you're selling all these models from Hesco, RMA, and Tencate which you're not even selling!3. You're on the CPL with a fat stack and people think your steel shitplates are NIJ certified because they don't know model numbers! Muahahahaha! You don't even have to LOBBY.
MIGUEL CABALLERO S.A.S, doing business as MC INTERNATIONAL and C.I.A MIGUEL CABALLERO S.A.S also has flexible MIGUEL CABALLERO S.A.S rifle plates. Columbian Dragonskin? Seems so!
>tfw AR500's best plate was $800/set, 4.7lb, steel+PE, and only rated for M193 + M855 + M80, was nominally sized at 9.5x12, and had bottom corner cutouts.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ituUMgiU2L0Five bucks say the Chinese could replicate this for $150/plate and it would actually have a purpose.
>>65304695They discontinued that thing a long time ago
>>65304695Hell, I can take some target steel and paint in truck bed liner for $80.
>>65302672If you haven't had to rebuy various pieces of gear because you broke it you aren't using your gear often or hard enough. One must imagine Diogenes happy.
>>65304709>They discontinued that thing a long time ago>long time>three years>tfw AMI TAC3S from 2009 is ancient lore nowBecause it sucked man. A pair of Hesco 3611Cs at the time was a hundred bucks more and over a pound lighter if you equalized sizing. 3611Cs are still dirt cheap if you get some of the remaining surplus so it's no comparison at the moment. The AR500 A3 sold very poorly despite Buff running cover for it. Nobody with $800 to blow on plates is gunning for AR500. I think the new steel-titanium "A4" is a similar miscalculation. Rumor has it AR500's owner sold to their CEO and they're now way over-leveraged, had to downsize their facility, and are pissing money, not to mention being run by a church group to save on staffing. It's possible they might go tits up in a few years. If this thing were $300/set then you could easily make the case for it since it's immune to drops and has much better shot spacing tolerance than a ceramic, but you're not getting there without making it Chinese. There was speculation the A3 actually DID use Chinese steel, but the proof seems weak.>>65304712The benefit of this plate is that it used a HDPE layer to stop M193 going too fast for the steel, and the steel layer was thin enough to let stuff penetrate to get caught in the PE, so it saved weight and also mostly dealt with the spall issue akin to the AMI TAC3S which it tried to copycat. There's no free lunch with this design. Buff was able to get M80 to pen somewhat over NIJ velocity, so it's down big time on safety margin.
>>65304721Joke's on you, I bought a pair of AR500 brand trauma pads and will roll them in front of the $3,500 plates, thereby making them DROP-PROTECTED.
>>65304759Yeah I'm just shitposting I'd be fucking livid if I ruined 3500 bucks at once. Cored my skis a couple years ago that was 700 bucks.
>>65304770>Cored my skis a couple years ago that was 700 bucksDamn that fucking sucks. I've recently had a bad string of the post office fucking up speakers I bought online. Somehow completely wrecked a subwoofer through a very well padded box. Getting my money back but damn that was $350 tied up.>Yeah I'm just shitposting I'd be fucking livid if I ruined 3500 bucks at onceI'll do you one better. A couple months ago, a dude on ebay bought a pair of Ceradyne SAEC plates from another dude on ebay for $5,000. Based on the specs, they're complete do-not-drop. Would be terrible if the postal service had a bad day with these, especially since there's no way in hell you're getting replacements. They sorta meet basic early ESAPI requirements (1x M2AP @ 2,850ft/s +-30) but are standalone, definitely not drop-proofed, only about four pounds, and are thin enough to be concealable hence their name. Stand Alone Enhanced Concealable.
>>65304256Just checked, this is RF2, 18lb for the whole vest + front and back panels, and like $3,700. Da fuck?Great coverage but this is basically just less sucky Safelife FRAS which runs more than Hesco 4800s.Da cartels in Columbia must not be fuckin around homes.

Guess what people. RMA is pulling shit AGAIN. They stealth-edited the weights on the new 1165 and 1155, verified using our secret weapon - the wayback machine! The 1165 GEN2 was advertised as 5.5lb not-10x12 and 6.3lb SAPI M as of April 2026. The test reports still reflect this. It is now advertised at 5.3lb not-10x12 and 6.1lb SAPI M.COMPARE:https://rmadefense.com/store/body-armor/level-iv-body-armor/lightweight-level-4-plates-model-1165https://web.archive.org/web/20260417155341/https://rmadefense.com/store/body-armor/level-iv-body-armor/lightweight-level-4-plates-model-1165/And for the 1155, 6.6lb for the not-10x12 and 7.4lb for the SAPI M. The test reports still reflect the old weights, which are 6.8lb for the not-10x12 and 7.7lb for the SAPI M as of February 2026. Test report shows a 7.78lb plate, SAPI M.COMPARE:https://rmadefense.com/store/body-armor/level-iv-body-armor/level-iv-body-armor-plate-model-1155/https://web.archive.org/web/20260226203030/https://rmadefense.com/store/body-armor/level-iv-body-armor/level-iv-body-armor-plate-model-1155/>okay anon but why does this matter? They are now advertising and selling plates that are substantially lighter than those shown in the test reports, which raises major safety concerns because they're either now even more nominally sized (and therefore undersized) or are now even more underbuilt.
>>65305129Why do they keep doing this? They can't help themselves? Griftmaxxing in the real world with lifesaving equipment?
>>65305135Something something they might lose the farm over the Buffalo shooting lawsuit and need a war chest for their lawyers?>They can't help themselves? They do lie their asses off and are, IMO, incredibly two faced as a company, and this predates the Buffalo thing as seen with "the polyethylene is actually fiberglass!" for the 1155s, and the undisclosed cheat rings on the 1189 / 1199 that they later tried to gaslight. Needing to pay for lawyers isn't helping nowadays and they used to be more honorable around 2021-2022, but the 1192s sent to Buff being 10oz heavier than advertised thing was ridiculous.I mean look at the pic rel in >>65305129. They criticize nominal sizing and bottom corner cuts one year because Botach and Highcom are using those tricks to cheat on weight, and then the next year they do the same thing!>Griftmaxxing in the real world with lifesaving equipment? It is statistically unlikely an 1155 or 1165 will ever be shot in a defensive situation by M2AP at NIJ spec, so the grift will probably never result in a suit. Adapted to .300winmag using DM151 / DM131 as a reference point you get 270gr.Hypothetically, future 85k PSI .300 winmag rifles would be capable of cracking XSAPIs out to maybe ~350 yards with that kind of sectional density and penetrator.

If Gilliam sticks to his word and the 1635 actually gets 0101.07 certified now that the CPL is active, it'll absolutely dominate the budget Level IV market as long as it stays around $300/pair shipped.I almost want to buy a pair of 8002s but I'm leery because I suspect he'll whip out a new, better version once the company moves out of the garage into the warehouse. Exciting times.
>>65307844>long as it stays around $300/pair shipped.Wouldn't you realistically raise the price upon certification? I would.
>>65307864It could go either way. On one hand certification costs money and you'd want to recoup that (ballpark ~$20-30k). On the other hand, the $400-500/set bracket is extremely saturated. You're guaranteed sales out the ass if you can undercut the 1155, 4403, and 4S17M with a lighter certified plate, because Gilliam has Chinese UHMWPE on his side and those three fuckers are using fiberglass like it's 1979.

Hey people, Adept has a NEW helmet! They took the Novasteel steel helmet and made it... titanium!https://www.ade.pt/product/nova-titanium-combat-helmet/>It is a 920 g all-in, size L/XL high-cut titanium combat helmet: shell, pads, retention, and standard hardware included. It is rated to stop 9mm FMJ at 400 m/s (1,312 ft/s) with low backface deformation, yet it sits at or below the published complete-system weights of the lightest premium PE helmets — and within an ounce of a premium bump helmet.>$390The lack of special threats (even versus the Novasteel) is annoying and I'd want to know why it isn't rated for .44 magnum at all.>The best composite helmets are genuinely light — and they are also expensive, thick, soft-shelled, deformation-prone. Their shells also carry a five-year clockOh boyyy, here we go with the "ALL NON-METALLIC ARMOR EXPIRES AFTER THE WARRANTY PERIOD" shtick. Adept, c'mon, that's AR500's sales pitch, kinda like how the novasteel was AR500's helmet too. lol.Not getting a good first impression.
>>65309621I like it, need a titanium mandible and shield tooonly question is if I should get it painted or leave it raw for the knight in shining armor look
>>65309672It does have that samurai appeal, but you'll need better pads homes. Also what kinda knight gets punked by 12 gauge slug? Maybe look at that chinesium steel Warmag NP550. Heavier, but much stronger. Also, people are already concerned about the titanium helmet backspalling, which isn't pretty.>leave it raw for the knight in shining armor lookThis
>>65301937Do you have the gimp suit to go with it
>it exhibits low BFD!>test report doesn't give a BFD number>ONE 9x19mm>sales FAQ flakes like a motherfucker on whether this can handle anything other than basic 9x19mm without either backspalling or breaking.I don't know what it is. Adept's titanium shit is extremely mediocre. Their nearly $1k/set titanium-PE plate, the Mantis, exhibits over 40mm BFD against basic M855, has no M855A1 rating, and weighs substantially more than CHEAPER LTC or Militech plates which stop M855A1 several times with significantly less BFD. It's directly comparable in weight to the Hesco 3411 which has several additional threats in its roster like BZ API. This helmet reflects the same trend. It's light, sure, but there's a reason why other companies are not doing this except for high-threat-level IIIA+ or basic rifle applications, which is precisely the opposite of where this helmet stands. If you really want a tank of a cheap helmet ($260.00) and need metallic in case you're engaged by crossbows from Cabela's then Warmag's NP550 (warning - chinesium) seems very appealing, but is 3.8lb PASGT style. https://warmag.llc/home/ws-/np550-ballistic-steel-helmets/products/coreshield-np550-steel-helmet?It's good for 7.62x25 steel core, so you're good if you ever bounce a check at the Chinese takeout and have to face 14K or Sun Yee On, and also handles 12 gauge 3" magnum slugs with 3/4" BFD, which isn't half bad for if you're stuck in Kentucky. No rifles!

>>65309621Yo it's literally lighter than a FAST SF which is only rated for 9mm FMJ at 1200 fps. I also like the white knight look. They need a raw mandible, though
>>65310203No different than putting a mirror on your gun so you can check your six on the move or a steel five-pound face mask so you can eat 12 gauge slugs to the jaw, or buying III+ steel forearm and leg protectors from VESTGUY on ebay.https://armoredoptics.com/products/maxilla-maxillofacial-protectionhttps://www.ebay.com/str/zasclectors?I genuinely don't know anyone who has bought this shit, so maybe there are some omega fudds somewhere building juggernaut suits with mobility exoskeletons paid for by their HSAs.
>>65310206Yeah but the FAST SF doesn't risk back-spalling off the interior of the helmet. I second the take that this needs an interior aramid layer.
PENIS HELMET
>>65310224> Yeah but the FAST SF doesn't risk back-spalling off the interior of the helmet. I don't think this happens at handgun velocities and at the thicknesses involved.
>>65310216What's with the circle in the pic? Is it because he's running a $15 Temu airsoft optic? Or is something else going on there?
>>65310229Armor is proportional to the threat. Most steel plates have spall liners on the back of the plate to address this issue against rifle threats. This helmet is thinner, weaker, and only built for one 9x19mm at 1,350ft/s.Very, very weak test report.>>65310238Yeah I circled that because I thought it was hilarious they're pimping a $700 steel face mask but they're running THE temu red dot.
>>65310250Right, and it's competing with ultra-light Team Wendy and Ops-Core helmets on weight/performance, and beating them overall. It's within an ounce of the Ops-Core bump. I wouldn't compare it to a rifle plate, lol.
>>65310267>and beating them overall>One 9x19mm at 1,350ft/s with unspecified "low" BFDJury is still out on that chief. Burden is on Adept to show this thing holds up, doesn't back spall, and is produced consistently with name brand level QC and they have one crummy test report. The problem is that none of those helmets really apply to CONUS. Who is just shooting 9x19mm ball one time at 1,350 and left all the other stuff at home? I will concede this helmet will have a much easier time with crossbow and other "super stab" threats than an ACH or whatever. However, the NP550 helmet for about half this price (and twice the weight) provides far more comprehensive protection against a wider variety of CONUS threats and actually gives BFD numbers.IMO, this helmet is like those Gilliam UARM 1 M193 plates. Light as fuck, cheap as fuck relative to other options, but barely stops nuffin.>I wouldn't compare it to a rifle plate, lol.The point is proportionality. This is to 9x19mm as a Level III steel or titanium plate is to 7.62x51mm M80.
>>65310302> However, the NP550 helmet for about half this price (and twice the weight) Yeah, that one weighs almost 4 pounds. > Who is just shooting 9x19mm ball one time at 1,350 and left all the other stuff at home? 9x19mm Ball at 1360 fps literally covers like 99% of handgun threats in the US, thoughbeit. From a handgun, 9mm muzzle velocity is something like 1100 fps on average. .44 Magnum and 5.7mm AP loads are very very uncommon. So I dig it.
>>65310228to match my penis gun and penis knife
>>65310334The penis knife is trad
>>65310321>Yeah, that one weighs almost 4 pounds.Indeed, no free lunch. It's the IIA versus IIIA debate all over again, except now it's...>*checks notes*IIA+ versus a helmet that seems to be literally built to 2005 Pinnacle Armor's IIIB spec. Blast from the past!>9x19mm Ball at 1360 fps literally covers like 99% of handgun threats in the US, thoughbeitNot according to the NIJ's statistics. With NIJ 0101.07, which doesn't directly apply to helmets but does reflect latest practices, they dropped IIA completely and this spec is outmatched by .357 Magnum @ 1,430ft/s in Level II, now HG1.NIJ for whatever reason now considers the minimum protection floor to be 9x19mm and .357 Magnum, likely for safety margin purposes. You always want safety margin. This helmet seems light on that especially given that the test report indicates no multi-hit.>.44 Magnum and 5.7mm AP loads are very very uncommon. So I dig it.I'm concerned more about 50gr Liberty Civil and other fast "IIIA+" threats. The NP550 is good for steel-core 7.62x25 Tok so those shouldn't be an issue. Everyone and their dog also has a 12 gauge or two, some of them drum-fed and especially... Turkish, so slugs are a common CONUS threat.I'm thinking a better CONUS mix is $75 used BA3A from Botach and then $250 on an NP550 for use as an emergency "contingency" helmet if you are unable to afford a rifle rated one (and boy do those get funky on BFD sometimes...).I will concede a way to bolster this titanium helmet would be a good applique.

Also, what's an ordinary everyday drop? You just never know bros…
>>65314093Yikes. Read the article, skipped off the top of the plate and shattered his sternum. Good hard lesson in plate coverage. Also daily reminder that a Highcom 10x12 covers less than a size small SAPI or ESAPI, and an RMA 10x12 nowadays is only a few percent more coverage than the Highcoms.
>>65313878>These plates ship directly from the factory.
>>65314250>noThey were discontinued years ago, all the ones that were SOCOM issue had a DOM in 2020 at the latest. Apex has the same issue as Hoplite and Midwest where they think 10 year old LTC plates are the second coming of random-ass Ceradyne model no. 42069 and think they can charge five grand for plates that can't even make Level III.
ceradyne ba3a from botach arrivedwearing it it just looks more like an ach with a brim than an actual pasgtalso has this weird nape adjuster knob that is somewhat uncomfortablei may swap out all the retention stuff tbqhhonestly i feel stupid for buying this, ill never fucking wear it. thanks gq
>>65314411Good, you only spent $75 on a helmet you'll never wear versus $1,200.>also has this weird nape adjuster knob that is somewhat uncomfortableAh so they've got the funky fucker retention.>honestly i feel stupid for buying thisDon't worry there are people that pay thousands for digital nv
>>65314423I just shit in the ceradyne ba3a and my steamy cream fudge is better padding than the padding it came with tbqh

>>65315064Admittedly, mine has no steamy, creamy fudge.
>>65314437Saaaar>>65315064The BA3A is, ballistics-wise, a solid helm. The pads and suspension at least on mine are a solid C+ but it's a $75 "IIIA" helm.>>65315066Other guy is a... shithead!
>>65315339>shithead"Crap hat" is _more_ correct. Jez sayin'.
>>65315339>ballistics-wise, a solid helmThe Sept2 has shown it's tissue strength against 9mm, so pretty shit. I have litte to no frag threats and a lumberjack hard hat would offer more practical protection. In spite of the stylin' superiority of a spectacle viking helm.
>>65315468Damn, it's weaker than Adept Nova Titanium IIA+?Big oof, even if swanky style. Gotta be honest, Jake is blundering with this one unless it shows better performance later on. If you want low BFD just go balls out and buy an NP550.People can crap on or in the BA3A as much as they like, it's a "IIIA" helmet for $75 because copsurp and made by a reliable mfg.
>>65315477Kind of cringe and weird take. The titanium helmet is in the same weight class as the OpsCore FAST SF and even bump helmet, and legit outperforms them. The NP550 is 4 pounds and there's no way to mount anything to it, lol. The BA3A is apparently pretty lame too.
>>65314437Most old helmets have really shitty padding. The Team Wendy ACH pads are the fucking worst. In all seriousness even the PASGT leather webbing is more comfy
>>65314437FYI the best aftermarket padding set is the PGD one. I think it runs about $60
>>65315339>>65314411How much does the BA3A actually weigh? Botach says 3 pounds, but they're always wrong. The 3M specsheet says 2.6 pound shell weight, but they always massively undersell "shell weight" and lie about it. I'm guessing 3.5 pounds for a complete Size L?
>>65315620>The titanium helmet is in the same weight class as the OpsCore FAST SF and even bump helmet, and legit outperforms them>test report with one 9x19mm and no BFD number or back spall yes/no.You're falling for Adept's cherry-picking and a singular test report. Jury is out until the helmet is actually released, and they haven't even given a real BFD number (low isn't a number) and proof it doesn't backspall as discussed upthread. Everyone agrees it should have an aramid liner but it's just bare titanium. Also the pads suck but that's correctable same as with the BA3A.>The NP550 is 4 poundsAnd massively higher rating. Steel core 7.62x25, some 5.7, IIIA, and 12 gauge 3" slug with actually pretty reasonable BFD. Far more applicable to CONUS given the 12 gauge rating. Everyone has a shotgun.>and there's no way to mount anything to itBoltless rail kit from Ebay should do. Better than Adept locking you into their hardware, so you aren't fucked if Jake has to up and skip town again like he did with Diamond Age (seriously, why did he get his entire old site purged from the wayback machine?).>The BA3A is apparently pretty lame too. It's $75 and IIIA. Protech 2014G of helmets, proven manufacturer but definitely not their best work.>>653156693.5lb is about right, one size fits most.
>>65315726> And massively higher rating. Steel core 7.62x25, some 5.7, IIIA, and 12 gauge 3" slug with actually pretty reasonable BFD. Far more applicable to CONUS given the 12 gauge rating. Everyone has a shotgun.Does this NP550 helmet even have a test report at all? Also you dodged the other point, which is that the OpsCore FAST SF is heavier, costs $2000, and is legit only rated for 9mm at 1195 fps. The OpsCore bump is practically the same weight and is rated for nothing at all. There is an "ultra-light" helmet category around the 2-pound to 2.5-pound mark. The ballistic yarmulke Mtek Flux is also here. (And reports online are that they refuse to disclose test reports.)> Boltless rail kit from Ebay should doThose are shit, tho
>>65315726>massively higher ratingIDK man, I don't really wanna have 4lbs on my noggin compressing my spine.I would rather slap on a slaap plate and add in 7.62x39 MSC.
>>65315760But you need a base helmet with steel core 7.62x25 +P+ protection or you are totally ngmi.
>>65315746>Does this NP550 helmet even have a test report at all?I'd have to ask, but it does have fairly good youtube testing and it's been around for years. 3/4" BFD versus 12 gauge slugs.I want to know why the Adept helmet can't do .357 or .44 mag. Again, what about backspall? Talk about dodging.>Also you dodged the other point, which is that the OpsCore FAST SF is heavier, costs $2000, and is legit only rated for 9mm at 1195 fps. That's the cherry picking I was talking about. Adept is comparing their titanium helmet to an overpriced piece of shit and going "hey guys, it's better!"Neither helmet provides adequate CONUS protection (NIJ's statistics prove this) and is therefore as irrelevant as Adept's Mantis plate, which also uses titanium by the way and flops. How come the plate sucks dick but the helmet is supposedly awesome?>Those are shit, thoWorks great on my BA3A and was sixty bucks.>>65315760It's 1.8lb heavier than the Adept helmet which stops almost nuffin and is a low cut so it has a major coverage advantage. You can also buy a BA3A and an NP550 for less than the Adept helmet, giving you multiple options.Anon above also dodged the issue that Adept is fundamentally still a fly by night, especially versus industry legend Ceradyne. 0101.07 certification opened months ago. Where are the Colossus and Archon?>I would rather slap on a slaap plate and add in 7.62x39 MSC.Only to the front chief.
>>6531581412 gauge, cpt strawman, and actually being able to eat pistol rounds without major BFD.This is safety margin, nobody is expecting 7.62x25 steel core outright.
Alright, so enough of Adept half-assing a product release again with an AI description and a crummy test report that could have been best-of-five like that time Buff shot seven plates from TAS and only showed one of them.Reddit Makes Armor (RMA) has made a statement buried on their own subreddit as to why the 1165 and 1155 are suddenly lighter. This is on their own subreddit and not on their site last I checked. They are, as predicted, EVEN SMALLER.>As many people noted during our first run of 1165 and 1155 Generation 2 plates last year, the finished plate ended up being a little bit larger than actual medium because we were using true-to-size ceramics and then wrapping them. That meant they ended up being a bit wider and longer than they should have been for a proper medium plate.>To rectify this, we shrunk the plate down by a fraction of an inch so that the finished and wrapped plates will be properly sized Medium to properly fit everyone's carriers, even if they don't have stretch material or a gusset in the plate bags. This does not explain why the 10x12s are lighter because the SAPI Ms had trouble fitting into platebags, but it seems the prediction was right.
Have 2000 model of German army boot. What the two numbers(285 110) on the tongue mean? 285 is foot length, 110 is foot width?
>>65307742He left because people called him out for being a poser lol.
>>65315975Didn't Molon get bullied out of Arfcom the same way, way back when?We took a hit when BBG left.
>>65315860What the fuck, weren't they already super undersized?
>>65316008Ehh, he was just a 68w in the US army. Not like he did anything special.
>>65316016The SAPIs were actual honest size, same as Highcom, which is why I tell people in >>65298893 to only buy SAPI-sized Highcoms. However, the 10x12s for both companies are way undersized, with bottom corners cut out as well. Highcom's is about 9.5x11.5 nominal - more like a 9x11 actual, RMA same deal but closer to 9.5x11.5. RMA is clearly using this as a smokescreen to make their 10x12 closer to Highcom's.
>>65316080> more like a 9x11 actual, RMA same deal but closer to 9.5x11.5. RMA is clearly using this as a smokescreen to make their 10x12 closer to Highcom's.Big ooof. > Our 10x12" plates were actually 9.5x11.5" but that's too big, we need to shave 0.2 pounds and move closer to 9x11"Imagine doing this after calling out Highcom for doing it.
>>65316113Yeah, well, RMA panders to the civilian side of the market with basically no long-term memory.RMA railing against nominal sizing was about a year before the new nominally sized GEN2 plates. People forget.Funny thing is, they could have had the 1155 G2 certified by now! Hesco recertified the fuckin' FIRST SHOT FAILURES contestant 4403 as the RF3-400 and that was done well before the 0101.07 CPL opened. What about you, RMA? I think the 1155 has a safety margin issue.

>>65316421Miami Vice don't fuck around. See below:>>65316431>Unlike anything you'll find at a hardware store, this ladder unfolds and is ready for use in under 5 seconds, then collapses back down to a compact, briefcase-sized footprint for storage in a trunk or behind a vehicle seat. New units in this line retail well into four figures given their specialized law enforcement market, making a used example a rare find for collectors and operators alike.
Check it, Stealth Armor, the inventors of DragonSkin, redid their website and now... sells Hesco plates! Looks to be the 4K10 and 3K10 going off weights and specs, the "Mexican Hescos."Both plates have NIJ compliance issues, the 4K10 was suspended then reinstated back in April, 3K10 was permanently removed and is INACTIVE. The 4K10 isn't bad, III + IV at 6.9lb and is the only Hesco plate rated for 2x M2AP with 2" spacing, which is actually pretty hard for a monolithic. I dunno what the fuck they're doing with the 3K10 if that's the case, get that shit outta here.https://stealtharmorsystems.com/productsAlso looks like performance claims on Dragonskin were significantly reduced (again) and everything is strict RF2. This is from the company that tried to pass off a 9.3lb IV++ SiC ICW IIIA Dragonskin panel sent to Buff as comparable to a completely different, much lighter, actually sold B4C Level IV panel. Worst ringer Buff was ever sent.AI written articles and pictures too, seemingly.NOT A FAN.
Wait, nevermind, the DragonSkin 2.5 using the SiC-TiB2 ceramic supplied by Adept, same shit as used in the Archon and Colossus except thinner... can't even stop M855? It's strict Level III. 7.62x51mm M80 only.https://stealtharmorsystems.com/products/dragon-skin-v5I... uh... huh. This sucks.
>>65316668Nah that makes zero sense, it's more likely that GPT-5.5 interpreted Level III to mean M80 only, and neglected to mention the rest.
>>65316682It sure got M855 and the rest right for the B4C 3.0 DragonSkin. Now the 2.5 SiC-TIB2 SHOULD be able to stop M855, I agree, unless the ceramic scales are so thin it can't handle any basic steel penetrator. If you ask AI what RF2 stops, it will reply M855 so I dunno if Bain, who is probably pushing 70 at this point, fucked up the prompt and didn't notice. Definitely possible. It would have to be some JUNK SiC-TiB2 to perform that badly.
>>65316691It's a skill issue, prompt or proofreading issue, surely. I wouldn't read too much into it.
>>65316701I'd check the test reports and spec sheets, but you have to email them to get copies. Also, the 3.0 B4C version no longer stops M855A1 at least per THAT model's prompt. It did get lighter, at 3.4psf, which is damn light for scalar M855 rated ceramic, so there's definitely something going on and it's not just the AI smoking that gas station fent.It now rivals the old 3.09lb for a 10x12 B4C Hesco 3811 from 2023.
Alright, I think I see the play. Bain realized the plate-shape Dragonskin was ass, and is now trying to sell Dragonskin purely based on full-torso coverage. In other words, he's trying to make a better Safelife FRAS. Then he's seemingly conceded, after thirty years, Dragonskin doesn't work in Level IV. Now he's selling Mexican, NIJ-iffy Hescos? Do you wear the Hescos in front of the Dragonskin if you run into AP threats? The 4K10 is like 1.2" thick, you're gonna be a phonebook with both of those.
>>65315975>called him out for being a poserAll that time he was faking. Huh. I guess giving away free bandaids covers alot of ground.

My first plate carrier setup, AWS Inc "Operators Choice Plate Carrier" copy of the 6094 with XL 11x14" plates in it kek. You can see the single ESSTAC KYWI on the left hand side. Didn't even have a belt setup yet. KYWIs were sick, and IMO are still solid if you don't need multi platform flexibility. If you're building around a single platform or magazine pattern, they're a great route to go because they have excellent draw, retention, and reinsertion characteristics. If you have money to blow and build out complete gear setups for all your different weapons platforms and magazine patterns, they're great too. I like my kit to be flexible across a wider variety of platforms and so I have been using a TACO on my gun belt for the emergency reload, but platform dedicated placards on the front. My web style belt rig has flap general pouches for mags and these are very flexible across the board. Yes they're not very fast draw nor reindex, but a web belt rig is not a CQB setup.

>>65322989It presses the polyethylene better than a normal press, which doesn't matter if the PE is lower grade. In the past ten years, better grades of Spectra / Dyneema (same thing different companies) have emerged which a lot of products haven't taken advantage of.You can see this with the incremental but major weight reductions in the LTC 28550 to 28590 to 28595 to 28570 to whatever the GEN-6 plate is. >>65323005> The RCH is donezo chief.Hahahaha, oh nooooooooo
>>65323037Yeah it sucked. I'm willing to give the Adept Nova Titanium some grace if they add a rifle rated applique for it to the lineup.Their new SiC-TiB2 or upcoming B4C-Al+AlN ceramics could add M995 capability, which is weird but allows them to flaunt their helmet can do stuff a REV. A ESAPI can't.
>>65323072Do you think Highcom will update their helmet lineup? What they need to do is actually get all of their information straight, and tell Apex to STFU.And if they use good materials and XTClave, maybe they can come up with a cheap UHMWPE ACH-style helmet that might be okay.I'd say they ought to hire me, but their stock is at $0.05 or something and I don't think they could afford it.

>>65323887>how do we know that jinwudun is any better than the rest of chinese armorThey're not. I would strictly classify them as B-grade below the A-grades such as LiTai, Militech, and Longfri. Their plates are pretty bad. North of 5lb on the ceramics and no ability to stop A1 threats. The BFD numbers on their normal helmets are rather high (up to 44mm, which for a helmet is bad) and behind armor blunt trauma for the head is still not very well understood. What's known is that backface deformation velocity, energy, and width also matter, not just the final BFD number, and 7.62x51mm M80 has a lot more punch than .357 SIG and .44 Magnum there. The helmet is however 5.8lb by itself, so it is beefed up but nobody knows if that's proportional to the round. I think however Highcom could beat that number given their access to better grades of PE and the XTClave. Chinese "white meat" PE is not that comparable to high end Dyneema. It is however much cheaper.>>65323909Could just apply the same increased pressure to 7.62x51mm and enjoy backwards-compatibility as argued in that thread, or 5.56 as said by >>65324128 and exploit the advantages of a lighter, smaller caliber.>>65323904Then there doesn't seem to be much in dispute.>>65324377>but the 8x10s make me more high speed and provide essential vitals protection! 10x12s too heavy!
>>65319559Couple questions in this.1-2 hit and 3-5 hit are same price, same thickness, only difference is weight? How does that work? Sounds like an entirely different plate instead of a different version. Also the bullet points list a 10 year warranty but in the tech specs it lists a 5 year warranty on the ballistic material. What will that extra five years even cover?
>>65324522>1-2 hit and 3-5 hit are same price, same thickness, only difference is weight? How does that work? Sounds like an entirely different plate instead of a different version. There are two ways that could be done.1. The 3-5 hit version is more strike face / crack arrestor, less backer, so you end up same thickness but more weight because of areal density reasons.2. The weight given is just for the 1-2 hit version and the 3-5 hit is beefed up probably to 1.2" thick with additional crack arrestor / backer / strike face. I think #2 is more likely. Running a stronger crack arrestor actually INCREASES BFD, and those are Gilliam's words, not mine, so if theory #1 were correct then the 3-5 hit would probably piss over 44mm BFD, which is a fail.I'm personally not a huge fan of the 0425, the test report given is weak - single strike for a 7lb plate, no thickness given, no drop test. The big thing with multi-hit claims is shot spacing. It's a lot more impressive to stop two M2AP an inch apart on the crown (center) than seven M2AP all riding the edge of the plate. Where this model is viable is as a new, not used multi-curve alternative to the copsurp Protech 2014G. In other words, last ditch desperado Level IV in the $250/set bracket.>Also the bullet points list a 10 year warranty but in the tech specs it lists a 5 year warranty on the ballistic material. What will that extra five years even cover?Five year warranty on the ballistic material, so the plate is expected to last five years under "normal use" and actually work against intended threats. The ten year warranty would be for workmanship.
>>65324704>>65324522>2. The weight given is just for the 1-2 hit versionWhoops, meant to say "the thickness given", my bad.Semi related, pic related is the test report for Gilliam's $400/set 1023 plate. Much better performance overall, with six .30-06 M2AP all under 44mm BFD and with NIJ 0101.07 spacing, so minimum 51mm / 2". Single curve and somewhat undersized, however. It's also a heavier plate. This plate is, IMO, the spiritual successor to RMA's old 1189 since they're both Alumina tile arrays and meet the same six-hit M2AP requirement. However, unlike the RMA, this is not cheat ringed and actually provides more than 8x10 coverage on a 10x12. The RMA 1189 did that to save weight because it was using a shitty fiberglass backer. This plate uses UHMWPE from CHINA, which is superior and at current prices actually results in cheaper plates. All of Gilliam's plates do use Chinese components if that's a deal breaker for you.

Shopping list for full lvl 4 suit? Assuming Jinduwan.
>>65324873Okay, this looks much better than the Pixar Mom getup they had last year. Actually looks like something I'd need to save the GEP Gun for in Deus Ex.>All components can be upgraded to VPAM PM-9!>They're rolling API in the AKs but forgot the same kinda ammo in the SVDs and PKMs!I'm assuming that's for weight purposes since running PM-10 everything would be horrible even if they moneybagged it and ran boron carbide + Dyneema HB212 on everything. My concern is that western companies gave up on exotic ceramic research years ago and the Chinese haven't. They are exploring AlMgB14 just as was being done here in 2014, but are now enhancing it with AlMgB14-TiB2 - basically concocting a strike face ceramic far and away superior to B4C and which could enable this same super deus ex suit but at drastically reduced weight OR drastically increased protection, your choice.>>65324883Okay this is gonna be ass but you asked.Head: Tencate's Level IV helmets are impossible to acquire. NP550 helmet for low BFD and then custom commission a Level IV SLAAP from Gilliam. Then upgrade pads to PGD.Neck: IIIA Militech neck and then strap a 6x8 on. Run a 6x8 off the back of the helmet as a helmet tail. Zip ties, bitch!Torso: Pull an Armorus Maximus and custom commission a Hexar flexible full torso set of panels from Stealth. Will be $$$. Dragonskin doesn't do IV well. Shoulders: Level IV shoulder plates and pouches from UARM.Belt: IIIA frag belt and then run 3x 6x8s.Skirt: Jinwudun IIIA skirt and four DMGear XLs each with a Level IV of your choice. Use TacScorp molle-velcro panels to attach.Arms and shins: 4x total 6x8s ghetto rigged to Chinese molle arm bracers and gaiters off Aliexpress. Jinwudun's plates are shit but are roughly 30-40% cheaper than Militech. I would use Militech or go all-in with Gilliam for this job other than the Hexar and the UARM stuff.Fuck I gotta make a UARM infographic.
>>65324883>>65324932Also, for the face, the best you're getting is a single hit 7.62x51mm M80 visor unless you custom commission that shit from Gilliam too. Will be a Level IV plate with a viewport, basically.Overall we're looking at well over 60lb of armor and in the paraphrased words of Ross Scott, anybody who has been to prison can still spot like twenty gaps in that shit. Not practical in the slightest.
>>653244876.8 is a better projectile than .308
>>65325003>betterDefine better.
>>65325003In terms of external ballistics, yes, but the juice IMO isn't worth the squeeze versus HICARizing other calibers unless you're really trying to push that extra 10%.The M7 would do a lot better as a DMR to complement HICARs. M1186 out of a long barrel would still handle most plates south of Level IV. A 6.8 version of SIG's 97gr Hydracore 5.56 AP would be 203gr, providing 7N37-esque AP performance in a lighter package.IMO, they should shitcan XM1184 and go that route. If it's a rare time when you really need tungsten AP, go all out.
>>65325026>10%That's generous and you know it.
>>65325036Yeah I'm assuming the final version of M1186 is quite a bit better than what Buffman is rolling in his armor tests.I think the M7's armor focus is going to age poorly once the Chinese master B4C as they have SiC and they can shit out 5lb Level IVs for $400 a plate. They're almost there, actually. Then you've got M1186 covered with room to spare and XM1184 can be handled by SiC-TiB2 plates in the 7.5lb range, and while high that number will go down. These advancements also apply to vehicle armor, too. Improvements to PE all around can provide better frag protection too. Sword vs shield. Right now the sword is ahead but it's about to fall behind.
>>65325061>Sword vs shield. Right now the sword is ahead but it's about to fall behind. This I can agree with. Military secrets are the most fleeting of all.
>>65325077The strange "stop" in AlMgB14 and B6O (boron suboxide) research around 2014, coinciding with the ECSAPI program going dark around 15-16, should be a clear sign western companies like LTC, Integris, BAE, and Avon Protection (formerly Ceradyne) are playing secret ceramics close to the chest and there are secret plates out there. We know around 2011 DEVGRU was dicking around with a 4lb quasi-Level IV and CAG had a 5.3lb M993 / Swiss P AP plate as early as 09. I'd like to see those numbers with AlMgB14-TiB2 subbing in for Ceradyne's enriched boron carbide, coupled with modern UHMWPE advancements. In other news, Adept has a B4C-SiC-TiB2 mix ceramic now (I think for a next gen Colossus 2.0) and they may have cracked Ceradyne's code with B4C-Al+AlN.
