With the nation's 250th birthday, I've decided now is as good a time as any to finally buy a 1911.

It's literally just going to be a cool range toy, and for that purpose is it really worth splurging on something like a Nighthawk versus spending a $1000+ less on a Dan Wesson?

You can find a Nighthawk for 2-3k depending on features used in good condition. They tend to get bought by people who don't shoot them very often. Their warranty passes on to the next owner and you get very good service through their custom shop for repairs and upgrades. If you aren't a 1911 guru then having Bob Reeves of the NHC custom shop on retainer to fix your gun is a plus. Also, if you get a Nighthawk you can use their RMA system for custom work, so for upgrades, optic cut, refinishing it's through RMA instead of having to go to an FFL, you just get a label and you box your gun and drop it off at Fed Ex. They ship it directly back to your door, since that's legal for guns being RMA'd.

I've not had a good time with my Dan Wessons
>DW CCO (officer frame, commander slide)
could not feed reliably from a 7 round magazine, especially from JHPs
>DW Specialist 10mm
premature slide stop engagement, something causes the slide stop to jostle to like 1% engaged with stops the gun and peens the slide stop notch. Not good. Not good because I bought the gun for carry. I think I fixed it but I didn't like how the gun shot (seemed to recoil more than necessary for 10mm, compared to my Nighthawk 10mm).

I've had very good times with Wilson Combats. Bill Wilson has never let me down. Wilson Combats can be had for cheaper than Nighthawks, I got one for 2.3k (my Elite Professional), could have gotten it for 1.9k if I sniped the auction.

That boils down to personal preference. Assuming they both function, you're not going to get a world of difference between $800 "service grade" 1911s and $2000+ gucci 1911s if you're just hucking .45AARP at the range every so often.

Gucci 1911s will feel smoother, look nicer and may have moderately better triggers. Even budget 1911 teiggers feel fantastic relative to most of the pistol market though.

Nothing wrong with a high dollar 1911 if that's what makes you feel good, but you're still able to have a fun and pretty accurate 1911 for below $1,000.

I've had 8 or so 1911s over the last 22 years, from a $400 budget blaster up to a few months of a pricey Dan Wesson. I'll always have one in my collection, but I have settled on an older Springfield Loaded to check all of the boxes I need checked. YMMV.

I'm a fucking idiot and lucky to have my hands. I got a reloading press, manuals, and GRT, and put way too much faith in the software. I thought this was enough buffer to create a safe zone, but it wasn't. The gun was uncontrollable. a case mouth got bent, and there's copper in my forcing cone. I have to get it looked at before I take it shooting again. I don't know how it took 10 rounds. Happy 4th

America was founded by the brave. There is a fine line between bravery and stupidity.

>The "Maryland 400" were a heroic detachment of the 1st Maryland Regiment who conducted repeated bayonet charges against a vastly superior British force at the Battle of Brooklyn (Long Island) on August 27, 1776. Their desperate last stand allowed Gen. George Washington to evacuate his army to Manhattan, effectively saving the American Revolution

>>65302307
They’re very good for the money here. They beat a pretty much other option in value to price. Common issues is extractor tension but literally all 1911/2011s in this price range have that issue, it’s an easy problem to solve.

Never happening again. The manual is coming out every single time and I will ladder a fifth of a grain at a time for custom loads starting from the book. 11 rounds without that thing fucking exploding is a gift from God and a testament to S&W despite their QC. >>
>>65302459
I bought it but won’t be able to shoot it for quite a while because I’m moving. Everything felt right. Cerakote finish was applied well, wish it was nitrided or something but I can get that done by someone else later. Everything fit well. Their Masterclass line is a TRP that’s collaborative with some master gunsmith, this case it’s 10-8 performance Hilton Yam, so it has his trigger, slide stop, and grips. He was one who created the super scoop (super deep mag button relief) on the grips.

I also just bought a Colt Limited Government and by god it’s the worst trigger I have ever felt in a 1911. Serrations poorly cut so there is a razor edge that’s liable to cut me

While I worked at the gun store a regular for the Colt Combat Unit in 9mm (Officer frame, commander slide) and he loves it. Runs very well, recoils super flat, dlc finish looks good.

Probably a retarded question but would this thing work with the newer ported P-10C?
I love the thing but the stock slide release is borderline unusable since I have extremely soft and sweaty woman hands (no I'm not actually a woman or even a fag, just my hands).
>inb4 just slingshot bro
That's not always cool. I wanna fling my thumb and drop the slide comfortably at times too.
>>
>>65302484
I don’t have a P-10 but I won’t see why it wouldn’t. One issue with larger slide releases is that your support hand can ride up and engage the slide stop which basically is a malfunction. It was a huge problem for me at speed with my PX4 with stock levers, the low profile ones in the stealth kit were so much better.

What do we think about the Bond Arms .357 derringer? I’m looking for something that is so trivially easy to carry that i can just throw it in my pocket regardless of what i’m wearing, same way i do my keys or wallet.
Pros:
>.357 magnum
>exceedingly small
Cons:
>2 shots, slow reload, like “reload when you get home” slow
>single action only
is there a better choice for a truly small gun?
Intended use case is to protect me from psycho crackheads when i walk around town. They do not hunt in packs but may attack without warning

I think an LCP is actually easier to carry (thin, lighter, less snaggy) while also being a semi that holds more rounds.

I've carried the NAA cumulatively probably like 900+ days though just because it's so easy to pocket, and it's kind of a bad choice otherwise.

NTA, but the Masterclass 10-8 has a few more features and touches to it that are Hilton Yam flavored
- Non full length guide rod for easy take down
- Square trigger guard. Not exclusive to him, but something he uses.
- Abreviated slide serrations so they don't rub your thumb while riding the safety
Shame about the Cerakote as you stated, but as long as it doesn't hinder function it can be remedied later.

What’s the point of ribeye or new york over a nice tri tip or flank steak?

Ribeyes and new yorks taste good but have a massive fat content. Tri tip, skirt, and flank are delicious tender and are all edible meat with no huge fat chunks

In relation to handguns obviously. Ground beef would be sig with its customization options.

>Redditors have been dumbed down by trigger safeties
Before trigger safeties we used thumb safeties, or 10 pound triggers, or literally just didn't keep a round under the hammer. People carrying pistols not wanting to shoot themselves in the leg is not a new phenomenon.

Even if we assume that that the P320 doesn't actually have a mechanical "flaw," an SAO pistol with a light trigger, pre-cocked striker, and no external safeties is imprudent at best.
>>
>>65304839
Yeah well fags begged for an amazing competition tier crisp and light trigger for a military combat or police handgun.

They got it and then cried and blamed sig when people acted irresponsibly and pulled the trigger on accident.

The fact that this is even an discussion to begin with is should be enough a red flag by itself. You don't see fucking anyone saying the ZIP 22 was just a "misunderstood and misused" pistol and that's why it has such a bad rep. And why don't you see that? Because it's, demonstrably, a fucking piece of barely functional dogshit which has no business propelling any projectiles out of it at any speed for any reason. Any modern firearm that has anything more than a one-in-a-million freak accident chance to discharge for no reason whatsoever, and has done so multiple times in just a few years, deserves all the ridicule it comes its way. Likewise, all the apologists passing it off as 'poor, unskilled handling' and nothing else are beyond contempt.

1 hour for 300 enough. Once you get fatigued or lose focus then you’re honestly wasting ammo and building bad habits.

Have a plan on how you’re going to shoot instead of just blasting a 100 rounds into the same target. If you buy online paper targets are 50 cents or less. 25 cents per. Saves a lot of money versus range targets which are 2-3 dollars each (mine are Jewish). Change targets often. If you can’t tell where the round you fired just went then you’re wasting ammo. I like to shoot 5 round groups in slowfire at 7 yards, it’s simple enough but to get rounds close together if not touching, ideally the same hole, it’s a good test of your fundamentals.

I need some advice
I recently got a CZ 75 Compact, and I am consistently shooting left/high-left with it
I tried a bunch of different things but it kept happening
It is also an issue I have with my HP clone, but I thought it had to do with not having much room for my support hand thumb to push things back right
I think there may be going on, but I am not sure how to fix it
-I am right handed and left eye dominant, and I shoot right handed/eyed with my left eye closed - I wonder if I am holding the gun centered in my chest, and looking across and angling to the left already
-I am not sure the best way to hold it, as in modern thumbs forwards or pinching one thumb under the other against the side, and proper way to do either
-I may be squeezing too hard or not enough, and also putting my trigger finger in the wrong spot and pushing the whole thing left
I am still relatively new to handguns, and have not have received any proper training on grips, just shooting with friends and trying to watch videos

1. Shoot both eyes open, yes I know you’ll have double vision but just work through it
2. Just hold the damn gun steady, don’t do any thumb pressure bullshit. Thumbs forward, have them hanging in the air. They don’t need to do anything
3. Trigger pulling really depends on your hands and so the “do this with you pad or knuckle” will not necessarily apply to you. Just pull the trigger in a way that does not move your sights.

Buy some snap caps and dry fire. You have to dry fire with snap caps with a CZ or you’ll break the firing pin retaining pin.

Definitely don't shoot with your dominant eye closed. Either shoot with both eyes open, or, if you must, close/squint your non-dominant eye. You can turn your head a bit to line your dominant eye up with the sights. It might be easier for you to learn how to shoot left-handed, rather than being cross-dominant.

Don't grip the gun too tightly, or you won't be able to work the trigger. Don't worry too much about your thumbs.

Thanks anon. I made a typo.

Also while were at it, should I get a GS R Cut done for my G43X???...It'll give me better accuracy, better performance, and better chances at surviving any threat that may come my way in the future.
Idk about getting an optic yet, so I'm just going to keep practicing for now.

Lost the impulse war after multiple years of wanting a Beretta. Ended up finding a moderate deal on the Performance Defensive before Gunbroker fucked me up the ass with about 160 in fees. Will probably switch the slide stop, takedown lever, and maybe the safeties for slimmer ones but the only frame safety replacements I can find are here: https://www.midwestgunworks.com/page/mgwi/prod/e02486
which are about 150 bucks. Other than that, the usual hammer & recoil springs but I really REALLY want to get a Jarvis 2-port comp/barrel and have the frame, slide, and comp all polished/blued at once to give it a really nice consistent look. Maybe some walnut grips as well. Like a poor man's attempt at the 3 Combat from here: https://www.berettaweb.com/Beretta-93-Combat/Beretta-93-Combat.htm

No guns poor here who got my first gun recently (CZ P-10C) and am trying to learn and improve as much as possible.

Eventually I plan on running a dot permanently but I'm holding off as I want to become skilled with irons as I see it as a more "pure" base level skill that's probably good to possess and in the case my optic failed I'd have to use them as backup. I also intend on eventually collecting some handguns that wont be able to mount dots.

Am I wasting time or potentially giving myself bad habits and should just jump into training with a dot?
Is it awkward to jump between shooting pistols with dots and others with irons or is it fine? (Sort of like swapping between keyboard and controller for a game; disorienting)

You're just delaying your own progress. A dot teaches you how much you're moving the gun around when breaking the trigger a hundred times better than irons do. You probably won't pick up any bad habits by shooting irons (other than maybe teaching yourself to shoot with one eye closed), but it's ultimately a much slower road. There is a reason why every good shooter in these threads uses optics.

Fwiw you have grt set for the cip standard for 44 mag.. if your in Europe then I believe your gun should have a cip proof stamp… which means it survived a proof load of at least 25% more pressure than the cip standard…. It probably felt spicy but the system likely was keeping you from being as tragically stupid as you think you might have been…. The trick btw is to shoot more till it doesn’t feel crazy, learn to love the kaboom…

Also you have your barrel length at 4.5 inch, are you including the cylinder length for that? Or just using the barrrel length s/w gives? Because GRT subtracts the cartridge length from that number so you need to include the cylinder length… your probably getting a little bit better of a burn than it’s telling you….

>Can't afford a 200-700$ upgrade that completely improves pistol shooting
>Somehow it isn't complete poorfag cope to hear "Muh irons just as good" for the 700th time
Let's say optics weren't better in every single way, in that case muh irons wouldn't always be poorfag cope. Unfortunately optics are better in every single way and inhibiting yourself through "choice" makes absolutely no sense for serious shooters when the barrier for entry is 200-300$ish for mid

a 15 round magazine is already like 2 pounds or something itself fully loaded, maybe more. 15 is a good amount before you start going into extended mag territory.
>>
>>65306373
I looked it up and apparently it's half a pound? but it feels way heavier if I have it loaded, maybe I'm just mistaken
>>
Curious anons. How safe is it sending a glock slide in the mail to get serviced? I already looked into it, and apparently its completely legal to do since its not classified as a firearm, so I was just wondering what is the safest way to do this so I don't fuck it up?

>I live in Texas btw, if that matters.

The way you actually use a red dot is the combat skill, target focus where you simply look at target and then shoot target. The skill you build with a red dot applies to shooting irons, I shoot irons target focus with okay accuracy.

>should I jump to the dot
The red dot makes dry firing way more effective so you get better faster

That means you should be feeling less recoil. There's anons who'll spend $300 just to add pure weight on the muzzle (pictured)

The only fear is someone stealing your mail, be it on your doorstep or some nig in UPS/USPS/FedEx

Do not indicate what it’s inside it. Declare it as tool bits, machine parts, do not say “firearm parts”.
>>
>>65306484
>>65306705
You don't have to write anything on the package, indeed it contains random parts, I think, only California cares about shipping them around.
Shipping a receiver is a pain though.

>>
>>65306484
The slide is not the firearm like you said. It's perfectly safe to ship, just don't disclose what you are shipping. If they ask just say
>machine parts
As for the safest way, go to UPS with your package already boxed up nice and tight, tell them where you want to ship it, and pay them. Get some insurance on there as well, usually it costs 5 dollars extra for a couple hundred of insurance.
>>
>>65306769
Oh and to add to my post, it also depends on the gun. My shitty 365 I can ship the slide, the grip, but I cannot ship the FCU. Whereas the glock, the whole grip is considered the firearm. Retarded and gay country we live in.
>>
>>65306771
You can ship firearms, it just needs to go through a FFL to a FFL
>>
>>65306776
Though anon is asking about not shipping to an FFL. Also, as long as you aren't transferring the firearm I think you're good to ship it without an FFL. I know that when you ship off an AK to be built you don't need to ship it to an FFL and they ship it directly back to your house. However, the initial purchasing of the receiver (the firearm part) does require shipment to an FFL initially.
>>
>>65306785
Legally you could ship TO a FFL, but pretty much every shipping company bans that and UPS literally will send your gun to a shredder (licensed to destroy firearms) if they find one. You can use shipmygun.com to created a label which satisfies FFL to FFL for UPS or FedEx which you just drop off at a FFL that is partnered with SMG.

ACRO mount. Shake awake. Claims 75k hours on a 2032 battery. Top mounted buttons so they don’t get pushed while IWB.

US designed and assembled (parts sourced from U.S. friendly countries, probably South Korea)
>>
>>65306812
Woah wait, 389? It's even cheaper than I thought.
>>
>>65306815
Probably robotically assembled like the Sig’s Romeo-X line except not price gouged to high hell.

The ACRO is hand assembled which is why it costs so much and has so many quality issues, debris inside the optic, fogging, etc. I think the COA is robotically assembled but they know people will pay 600 for an optic.
>>
>>65306828
All of them eventually will need some sort of human intervention, robots can't do everything. Though I have no issues if they do the majority of the work. Do the people who work on the acro not use clean rooms?
>>
>>65306836
They absolutely do. Usually the robot lines are in a big CE.
