What's your most American surp?

Recent News: lol just Soviet AK kits and more Euro pistols

I don't have any American surplus and I really fuckin should. Are there any free CMP clubs I could join and order a Garand?
>>

All I’ve got is this M48A that I overpaid for :(
>>
>>65315573
Easiest way to get CMP stuff without joining a club is to get a C&R ($30) and get a Garand Collectors Association membership ($35).
>>
>>65315636
Why the C&R? I thought you just needed a CMP club and proof of some kind of live fire event? (Training, competition, etc)
>>
>>65315642
I fell for the in person event meme and it turns out you also have to be a donating member of the CMP associated organizations that run these events to qualify.

My M1911. Shipped to the Ordnance Officer at Bush Terminal, New York, New York, on November 11th 1918.

It fulfills the marksmanship requirement.

Oh gotcha, I have a live fire required CCL so that counts.

I'm living in Europe so American guns tend to be quite pricey.

I missed on a 1903 a couple years ago because of my dad lmao. When I was out of town, he went to our local gun store, and since he know I like them, he checked the milsurp aiailse.
Got a text "nothing interesting just a random Mauser rifle".
When I got back home and saw the picture he took it was too late ahaha
>>
Just bought my first "milsurp" ammo.
Is the whole corrosive primer a real concern or not ?

I've heard everything from "just wash your barrel with some water and your good to go" to "it's gonna eat your barrel in 10 minutes"
>>
>>65316161
Clean your gun no later than the following day after shooting with water and you'll have nothing to worry about. Just dont shoot fifty rounds and put it back in the safe for 6 months
>>
>>65316161
>it's gonna eat your barrel in 10 minutes
do you think any military wouldve ever used it if that were the case
>>
>>65316201
I'm sure russia would.
>>
>>65316201
It was just to get my point across, of course not
>>
>>65316161
There are a million ways to clean your gun after shooting surplus. Every boomer will have his own way of doing it and is convinced that it is the only way.
But as long as you neutralize the salts in some way and apply oil within 12 hours of shooting, you're gtg.

Personally, I just wet my cleaning pads in hot water and send them down the bore. Then come in afterwards with Corrosion X. Done. You can speed up the processes with a bore snake.
>>
>>65316140

Bummer.
>>

I would much rather get an US17 if I had to choose between the two tho

>>
Last thread ended a bit after I posted this so I'll just ask again for some opinion

I'm going to a 600yd rifle match on Saturday should I bring my M41b or my M39? I need help deciding
I have blue box PPU for the Swede and 2019 Surplus white box PPU for the Finn
>>
>>65316161
Corrosive is easy to deal with, and no, it's not going to instantly destroy stuff.
>shoot gun
>go back home
>just pour some water down the bore
>dry with patches
>clean and oil
>done
Hell I do this with my SVT to no ill effect. Granted it's a touch more complicated with a semi since you gotta water down more parts, but it's not rocket science.

How is cleaning out semi autos after shooting corrosive?
Is it just pour water on everything the gas touched?
>>
>>65317016
>$200 overpay
NTA but there isnt really a fixed price on any milsurp so that doesnt say much
If you payed $800 then yeah thats pretty high
if you payed $700 then thats still on the high end but whatever

The obvious answer is either my 1911 or M1 garand cause inarticulate murica yelling.
But from a more obscure perspective I guess my Lee Navy and 1816 Springfield
>>
>>65317025
It’s non matching and the stock is in pretty rough shape. Quite a few large scratches. Paid 600 when it in that condition it’d be like 400-450

At least the bore is good

New acquisitions today, Carbine is an Inland, one of the RTI imports that wound up in an LGS for a decent bit less than going M1 rates online and was in overall decent shape, same with the M1917. And God the M1917 is so fucking fat, I forget how big they are because pictures alone don't really do it justice

My LGS had this on the shelf when I went to pick up my Beretta. Yes it counts because the 556AC had military adoption. I feel like the price is really low but I don't usually know machine gun prices off the top of my head either.

I can't believe they're asking $1.8k for a $350 kit from Apex with a 3D-printed receiver.
I should really get another kit and use it to scam boomers.

They're so incredibly rare
My friend wanted one and I told him he'd better prepare to wait because I'd only ever seen one for sale in the entire country. I told him I'd check the websites of the gun stores most likely to trade in historical firearms daily just in the interest of getting him one, and I think after 3 weeks of scrolling one appeared and I immediately called him. Haven't seen one since
>>

Finland
M1917s in comparison are reasonably common

I suppose it would be a pretty obscure rifle from that perspective.
>>
>>65320876
Yeah but like I have seen more Thompsons and M1 Carbines and Garands in this country than 1903s. Something doesn't add up.

We made a lot more of each of those than we did M1903s.
>>
>>65320962
But I have also seen more M1917s, hell, I have seen more Rasheeds than 1903s
>>
>>65320974
Demand for them in Finland just isn’t going to compete with demand for them in America, so your dealers probably won’t import very many.
>>
>>65319611
not popular = not valuable
you're simply paying the "it's a machinegun" tax
ive seen 30-06 an-m2 aircraft guns go for about that much recently
>>
>>65321055
Largely what we have now is whatever was shipped in the 1990s, everything historical is leaving this country for America because the market is so much better
Very fitting for this historylet shithole

Does anyone know if you can buy Finnish D166 surplus or is it not on the market in the states?

You might find some WW2 surplus stuff imported by INTERARMS back in the day. I have some VPT-made Finnish light ball 15rd packs with 1930s headstamps that was repackaged in the late 1940s and then in turn packaged in 100rd boxes by INTERARMS. Lapua used to sell the ammo but IDK if they bother importing it any longer.
>>
>>65323138
Why would you? Shit's largely corrosive and the bullet is still in production, just roll your own
>>
>>65323262
So you can pull the bullet, pan the powder, punch the acid primer out, squeeze a new primer in, funnel the powder back in and reseat the boolit

Easy Weekend
>>
>>65323262
Tired of my bullets going way high and would just rather be able to point and aim without having to figure out Kentucky windage.
>Largely corrosive
I already use corrosive ammo so no big deal
>>
>>65320887
We dumped our stockpiles onto western Europe in order to shore up our new anti-commie allies as they were rebuilding their countries. America didn't care to have em back by the time Europe was adopting new stuff in the 50s-60s so they were sold off to civilians. The 1903 was already phased out by the time WW2 ended so not many were sent over.
>>
>>65315541
Not surplus guns, but I figure you guys would know a thing or two about this. Can you recommend me a pith helmet?
>>
>>65320887
>[more] M1 Carbines and Garands in this country than 1903s
Same here and I live in the USA
>>
>>65323564
>Can you recommend me a pith helmet?
original or repro? also which country?
>>
>>65323676
Oh shoot, I don't know. I guess the classic British style, German, or American. I assume repros are the most affordable, but I really don't know aside from a quick search. I want one for desert range trips.
>>
>>65323676
I don't think any of the original ones will fit my fat head.
>>
>>65323676
French colonial style piths are probably the least autistic and can be found relatively easily due to their legitimate use in outdoor work to this day
>>
>>65323699
Thanks, anon.
>>
>>65323508
>America didn't care to have em back by the time Europe was adopting new stuff in the 50s-60s so they were sold off to civilians.
Not true; US military aid program weapons were still US property so they were returned to the US once replaced. We were still getting returned M1s from Turkey and M1903s from Greece in the 1990s.
>The 1903 was already phased out by the time WW2 ended so not many were sent over.
It was still the standard rifle of the USN until the war ended. We had actually scaled back M1 rifle production in 1944 because it was felt that the rate of resupply for actual combat troops' needs was fulfilled.
>>
One day I will learn machining and make horrible parodies of all my favorite historical firearms from scratch.
>>
>>65323564
Vietnamese
The least larpy too considering they're still in service
>>
why aren't we getting M9 pistols from the CMP
they aren't machine guns
they're thoroughly obsolete now
there would obviously be demand even though they're worn out pieces of shit now
>>
>>65325763
Holy shit imagine $300 surp M9s. I'd buy 4
>>
>>65325763
>thoroughly obsolete
eh not quite. the m17 has only officially been in service for 9 years. and theyre junk. between that and some airman getting his head blown off by one of those pieces of shit I imagine the military still wants to hold on to the m9, even if only for rear echelon and natural guard peop;le and whatnot

I bought like 500 rounds of Polish WW2 8mm ammo. I feel like it’s worth something. Want to sell it. Wat do?
>>
>>65326360
eh. just shoot it. it has 0 collectible value and will sell for less than modern ammo
>>
>>65326377

>>

I’ll buy them for $50 for the brass and bullets. Location?
>>

its not. Better to just shoot it than go into this thinking youre some sort of ammo flipping entrepreneur
