Teenage Queen EditionPost your controversial surp opinions.Recent News: CMP will be selling surplus M14s at the end of the year.Previous Thread: >>65315541
>>65396114First for FTR
Any parts kits I should get while the getting is good?
>>65396114I hope AWBs are abolished by the time these come on the market or I am going to be depressed about missing out on a legit M14.
I have nowhere else to post this but:I love the Savage 99, bros
>>65396114I want one
Any news on the CMP M-14s?
>>65397112I saw a semi credible rumor that they would be $4k
>>65397155>$4k>for a clapped out M14>when a brand new M1A is half that Bruh.
>>65397155That would be very silly since you can get a good clone for the same price and the whole point of the CMP is subsidizing marksmanship. I don't beleive it.
>>65397197Muh provenance
Someone explain the throat/muzzle gauge thing boomers use. Is it actually a useful way of checking a barrel?
>>65397233Are you talking about headspace gauges?
>>65397235No. The CMP boomer measurements they do with "the throat scores a 1.5 and the muzzle has a 1.0".
>>65397155You can get a kit M14 with a new barrel and reciever for less than half that so I doubt it. I'm thinking $1500 for a Rack grade and $2000 for a Service.>>65396352They have the entire remaining US inventory of M14s to chew through so they should hopefully last a while. I wonder if they'll sell a version with no mag and flash hider for us cuck state residents.
>>65396157Anything with a barrel pretty much. Stack the kits and get the receivers or repair sections when you can. Get a welder whenever can and learn that. Get a 3d printer and learn making some files using auto fusion. By the time somebody has receivers or making blanks for some of the stuff, you'll be able to weld or 3d print repair pieces or jigs.
>>65397329And get the repair sections as soon as can for odd ball pieces. They're usually limited runs or they're made by old farts that might suddenly die on you and take the knowledge and skill to the grave.
>>65397297That senator said there's at least 100k of them
>>65397338Boomers are going to be stacking these deep to rust in their garages to resale at 3x, die, then have their kids take them to buy backs to be destroyed
>>65397355Stop being needlessly doomeristic, retard. Liking money is vastly more common than anti fun virtue signaling.
>>65397587Ths CMP's stated mission goal is to improve and promote marksmanship for the general public. It is not a retirement scheme for wealthy boomers. It is public utility and boomers taking advantage of it for a quick buck is fucking disgusting and calling it out is not "anti-gun", you fag.
>>65397235Its a bore rating. Like how the Swedes did on their guns. It’s something that helps them justify their gunshow prices. It may be valid it may not.
>>65397155The 4k number that keeps getting thrown around is absolutely false>idiots on forums say $4k>source?>a.i. told me>a.i. gets its info from said forum>cycle repeats
>>65397612As above so below
>>65397233Yes. The us military armorers would use throat/muzzle erosion gauges to measure how worn out a barrel was to see if it needed to be replaced or not. A brand new barrel would read 0-2, a super worn out piece of shitty sewer pipe from ethiopia would measure 10. Armorers would replace barrels around 5-6 iirc
>>65397612The original forum poster that said that is a CMP armorer. That's why I said semi credible.
>>65397646And I think he's bullshitting. "Dad works at nintendo"-tierThe CMP is maybe paying $600 for these Margins are super thin, and theyre technically a "non profit", and they want these rifles to actually sell. They sell the garands a touch over "at-cost", what makes you think they'll suddenly decide that they need to septuple their money
I need one of these so bad
>>65397197I wouldn't think they'd necessarily be clapped out. I think they're probably all late 60s-mid 70s arsenal reworks the government held on to for WW3. think of the letterkenney garands the cmp sold in the 1990s
>>65397663>Remington Model 400 Industrial Kiln GunOh yeah, I forgot they use large bore shotguns to help remove slag and build up on those.
>>65397713Imagine putting it on a 1919 tripod or something and absolutely btfoing bowling pins with 4" shell 3 oz slugs. practically an artillery piece
>>65397197>when a brand new M1A is half thatAnd ARMS refuses to make a new run of scope mounts for them even though they would print money because SA can't get their receivers to actually be in spec across the production run.At least the surplus ones were manufactured correctly.
>>65397764ARMS refuses to make mounts for them because they're practically out of business. They have no manufacturing facility anymore. Everything on their site is old stock.
>>65397772How? Every reddtor and their mother wants to make a mw2 m4 clone, or some gwot dmr clone, or a colt scar clone, or a mk12They'd make a killing selling literally anything they've ever offered, and cloners would pay big bucks for that. A fucking #40 flip sight is $600 now. I dont even want tho think about their quad rails. They could sell them new for double the old msrp and people would still buy the shit out of them. Why?
>>65397816>fucking #40 flip sight is $600 now.No fucking way. I've got two surplus ones I purchased at a show for $20 each. Where are you seeing this
>>65397830Sorry, I misremembered, only 399, a great deal
>>65397329FAL kits are likely something we won't see come back soon. All you need is a receiver and you don't have to cut or weld anything.
>>65397835I'm probably going to legit sell the ones I have now and spend the money on a 6mm arc upper.I had no idea they were worth this much, that's ridiculous.
>>65397845I'll give you a CRISP benjamin for one
>>65397816Probably age old tale of oldfart owner/machinists retiring and not being able to find/train a replacement to continue the company.
>>65397603Agreed but don’t take it to the exceptional extreme just to meme
>>65397856All that shits been CNC for decades. load stock. push button. bzzzzźz. quadrail. How hard can it be to train some trade school graduate for that?
>>65397863not every cnc is the samea espresso machine is insert coffee add water press buttona microwave isnt going to give the same results even if its still insert coffee and water push button.
>>65397845Ehh they're not really worth THAT much. Ebay is as bad or worse than gunbroker when it comes to overpriced shit. There's one on tacswap for $185. But its the "klone korreckt w/ wingless swan" so a later one might be worth $140-150 or so IMHO
>>65397859>don’t take it to the exceptional extreme just to memeHate to tell ya, but average boomers are hoarders. It's not extreme enough portrayal in my opinion. Anon left out the boomer dad was cat fished by a 40 year old Asian man posing as a 19 year old Asian girl and he just wired "her" the rest of his net worth and took out a quadruple reverse underwater mortgage to make sure his new love has enough to live on.
What did the Russians call 7.62x54mmR before they went metric after ww1
Finished lower. Working out final dimensions for a 3d printed lever to push up on the cut up ar15 trigger. After that, spruce up the 3d print file for lower with final tweaks and drop on odysee. Once I heat treat my lugs, I'm done with the semi Hotchkiss build.
Suppressors and SBR's are about to get removed from the NFA in about 7 days if the government doesn't contest it
>>65398901>>65398901CMP grease guns when?
>>65398903That will be $8,000 please
>>65398945Not him, but>implying I wouldn't pay $10,000 for a tin tube that goes bang bang bang
>>65398415Probably something like "Three Line Gun ammo". Not as if they had a bunch of different service rifles shooting 54R back then.
>>65398901>Suppressors and SBRSmall fryWake me up when >.50s are struck offThe machinegun registry will never be reopened

>>65398901>suppressorseh>SBRstell me more...
>>65398415Originally, the round was designated "Tpeхлинeйный пaтpoн oбpaзцa 1891 гoдa" – (three-line cartridge model of 1891). It then became widely known under the designation "7,62мм винтoвoчный пaтpoн" (7.62 mm rifle cartridge). >>65398988Good call
>>65396114I can't wait for the CMP M14s to come out. I'm gonna order two. >>65397297Dang I didn't realize JRAs were sub 2k. I always thought of them as being 2.5+ guns.
>>65399153>suppressors>ehNTA but have you shot with one/owned one?
>>65399226Ive shot a few never really did anything for me. Im thinking more in the greater theme of milsurp there are fewer (albeit rarer and cooler) suppressed or can easily be suppressed surps vs SBRs so thats kinda what I want to know how it effects the surp pile
>>65399276Its basically a nothingburger for surp. Suppressors have never been a bottleneck for because they can be acquired separately from the firearm and anything SBR surp is likely going to be an automatic weapon or already destroyed ages ago.what this will actually mean is that Timmy and Tyrone are now going to saw off unattended surp shotguns whenever they want
>>65399293>Timmy and Tyrone are now going to saw off unattended surp shotguns whenever they wantYou do realize they already do that with stolen firearms right? They don't care what it is. It makes no difference to them if it's registered or not.
>>65399276Yeah for surp your main thing is going to be, like, Mosin silencer repros (using front sight to attach). Maybe also some silly clamp on muzzle thread mounts, like Maxim repros. Maybe you find an FR-8 and hope for concentric threads (those are threaded and not pinned or something silly, right?). Can't really think what else would be historically correct to silence unless you build a 656 clone. On a 22, though, holy shit. I'd say down to like 10" barrels you can build a semi 22 that's pretty close to hearing safe if not hearing safe with most ammo and still have pretty complete powder burn. With subs (~1000FPS), it's silly as shit and actually hearing safe. Shot some supers (safely) past a groundhog at the range last time. Maybe he's just a deaf and jaded range groundhog but he gave me a look at the first shot and went back to muching grass while I lobbed 22s a couple feet above and maybe like 25ft to the side past him hitting the target 50yd past him (he was ~50yd downrange, target at 100). Supers still sound like gun shots with a 22, just as if they were, I don't know, 25-50yds further away. IDK how loud it is downrange but I figure it has to be the loudest spot given the sound echoing back.
>>65399276Adding: I just wish Maxim repros would start popping up. Seems we have three fucking Bramits! (may have a duplicate?)https://atakaindustries.com/mosin-nagant-bramit-silencer/https://usarmamentmfg.com/mosin-nagant-suppressor/https://mgarms.com/product/new-russian-bramit-suppressor-mosin-nagant-91-30-wwii-nfa-in-stock-ready-to-ship/
>>65397355Getting pretty stale by now.
>>65399451>I just wish Maxim repros would start popping up. Seems Me too.
Did they ever bring in the boxes of Italian 30-06 Bren magazines like they intended?
>>65398495Printing out hopefully the final iteration of it before dropping on odysee. Trigger pack and trigger release lever. Will get photo of hotchkiss mostly assembled this evening.
>>65400059Even if I just end up using them on old 22s, I really want some to keep some old guns period correct. I mean, look at this thing!https://www.rockislandauction.com/detail/72/3709/maxim-silencer-equipped-remington-model-12-rifle-class-iiinfa
>>65400937No Anon, look at this thing:
>>65401096Oh fuck yeah. I like that scope too.
One of my dream guns has always been a 1903 with the overly long Unertl scope.
>>65401500I just like super long vintage scopes in general. My longest is ~14" with a 3/4" tube, straight tube with minimal flare out for the eyepiece. Looks sweet. I want longer though, and I've yet to get bases made to mount it properly. I have a rifle that scope would BARELY be able to be used on due to the insane gap between drilled and tapped holes for the mounts. Luckily it has internal adjustments though I'm in need of one without adjustments too.
>>65401500Unless you want a legitimate one, that isn't that unobtainable. Lots of 1903s have been drilled for repro scopes and you can get an Unertl repro with modern glass for not too much either.
>>65400858Carbon fiber print later. Will drop on odysee in like a week or so. I'm just being lazy on writing the how to.
>>65401616Next step make it out of metal
>>65401616Fuck yea bro
>>65400937>Scope longer than the barrel>Silencer>For a 22Is this a 1900s version of tricking out a $400 Glock with $2k worth of accessories or something?
>>65403257Sound suppressors are primarily illegal because people were using sound suppressed 22s to poach game animals during the depression. If you're poaching a sound suppressed 22 is the go to.
https://youtu.be/cM4Lqo82WkEInterview with CMP CEO, they got over 100k rifles and are targeting <$2k. Also getting shotguns. Somehow the US Army still has 300 1897 Winchesters they're giving to the CMP.Also fuck boomers limit of 2 rifles per buyer per year. Early 2027.
>>65404617ImagineOne of 300 CMP Trench gun $86,000, I know what I got on the boomer tables next year.
>>65404617>targeting <$2kRip shitfield lmao
>tfw my 90s Chinese AR carry handle mount scope doesn't hold zero. Bummer. That was a $20 auction gamble. I was hoping it was unused since it was in the box, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the previous owner knew it was shit then just put it back in the box. Then when he died it ended up at his estate auction. Guess I’ll have to buy something more expensive now.
>>65403257Given around the 20s-30s, that rifle cost about $9-12 (~$100-200 today, somehow around the same cost as a fucking Iver Johnson revolver), maybe. Fun rifle, though. And far from the only Mod 12 to be tapped for a long ass scope. If I had to get a rifle for hunting squirrel and similar game back then, that would be my choice. Maybe a smaller scope. But a similar setup, maybe a gill gun set up like that instead with a Mossberg side mount if I could get one that early. The Savage ones even had the option to lock the bolt shut!
>>65405065At that price I'm buying a cmp for being surplus. I'm not even going to look at Springfield's unless they're $1200 range
hows your surp summer going bros?
that's none of your fucking business how my summer is going, faggot
>>65406862>want m1 carbine>all the boomers want silly prices for them in my areaLike I'd get it if it were an early setup or a Rock Ola, but it's just generic mix master Inlands for $2000 here.
Recent opportunities>Winchester 1911SL>Savage 99, Takedown>1969 Finn Nugget>1887 repro>Tula SKSI, once again, wish this thread were more of “c&r general” but I’ll be daft if I try to talk an anon out of an M65 Jacket
>>65398495>>65400858>>65401616
>>65406862eh kind of taking a back seat to other projects. Fall and winter are peak comfy range day season here anyway.
>>65406862Haven’t bought anything since this Mk.III in May.
>>65407955That's a nice looking SMLE, how much do you end up paying for it if you don't mind me asking? Looking to get a Mk.III or Mk.III* for my first Lee-Enfield.
>>65408610I’d recommend going with a No.4 instead. If you’re dead set on the No.1, I’d give the Ishapore 2A1 a look. Chambered in .308, so ammo is a lot easier to come by than .303.
>>65408610$655.78 after fees and theft, then perhaps $20-worth of gas for the drive to pick it up. It came with a 1942 Lithgow Pattern 1907 bayonet. >>65408675SMLE has SOUL.
Not really "milsurp" but does anybody have any experience with these older Chinese air rifles? pawn shop has 2, im considering buying them
>>65409510Literally have near identical rifles like the top and bottom sitting a few feet from me. Expect little power. Old air rifles sometimes have leather piston seals and I wouldn't be surprised if these did too, so expect them to take more oil if they do to keep that seal wet. The sights on the bottom one on mine, at least, are further back and a stamped "box" design that looking closer, I'm missing a C clip on. That one is marked "MADE (IN?) SHANGHAI, CHINA". I think the "in" is supposed to be below made but it's faint. The end of my underlever has a textured plastic sleeve which the clip has pierced, lol. Chinese underlevers ALSO may not have anti-beartrap mechanisms. That means if they slip off the sear, the silver cover is able to snap shut HARD which has given cheap underlevers the "finger chopper" nickname. Use a pellet loading pen on them; even Walmart carries them. The top, I have a similar model with a painted stock and no sling loops. Super loose in the stock. The slider is a staple shaped piece of metal folded over the rear sight. I've handled another like that which was similarly cheap. Don't expect them to be super accurate IMO. Tom (?) on the Pyramyd Air blog may have some articles with reviews on them. Huge backlog of reviews there. Also, WAC may still have the "Pioner" Romanian bakelite stock kid's air rifles. $45. They're tiny. My barrel literally sits cocked to the left, but it's sealed well. If you're over 5'0" I think using the sights with the stock comb is impossible. On all the air rifles, I'd grab them if cheap. $25 max maybe unless you had a lot of interest in them. I think I paid that for the pair if that.
>>65403816People say this but it's not realistic. 1920s game wardens weren't wandering around listening for gunshots in the woods & prairies hoping to home in on the alleged poacher before they fuck back off to their house.
based cosco table enjoyer
>>65398901Not entirely wrong, not entirely true either
>>65406862Actual surp pickings have been very dry, but I did pick up an FAL kit so now I need to figure out how to put it together and maybe engrave the receiver.
How did I do?
>>65410812very cool, tell us about the thompson
>>654108721941 Savage Arms M1928A1, semi-auto conversion unfortunately
>>65410812That 1911 nearest the Wz.35 looks immaculate.
>>65410901Still open bolt? Can't imagine it would be tough to reconvert. Funny how some countries gun laws are less restrictive in some respects than we who are supposed to have rights to own them
>>65410901Would a Thompson FRT work on a rebuilt Thompson?
>>65409934I love .22lrI love nugget But if those mini nugs either>were cheaper>had a magazineI would buy one.
>>65409934>don't talk to me or my son ever again>>65411819My Romanian M69 is the closest thing I have to a 22lr nugget. It's commie surplus, ugly, and the bolt sticks (worse than my nugget actually), and it was only $100.
>>65397835Holy shit, I bought two of those a couple years ago, max, for like $85. >>65397845I sold one a year later and they were already fewer around.

>>65412784>>65411636went to fire it for the first time today and it's still an open bolt, to my huge surprise. funny thing is I could by a full auto lower receiver, because owning it is not illegal, only using it to convert a semi-auto to full auto is.
>>65412784>>65414370Awesome.
>>65414370You could probably just remove whatever semi auto disconnector is in the existing lower assy, not that you should break the law of courseHow much was it?
>>65412579Turns out humans are shitty at art too. The image is from at least 2018 by a guy named "molyb."
>>65414449I actually had this pictured saved before buying mine. what year is yours? mine 1917 is in the 163k series number. bottom one is 1915 commerciall, still works flawlessly, sadly someone changed the grips at some point and glued them to the frame
>>65414852someone thought about that and the lower is impossible to disassembly after conversion. 3,5k in $
>>65414927>what year is yours? That >>65414449 (You) one is 2004 LOL. My actual M1911 shipped from Colt on November 18th 1918.
>>653971554k is what the boomers buying a dozen of them a year will flip them for. This will be like the M1 situation but probably worse since boomers hold a more vested interest in the M14

I do not care for heel releases. That is all.
>>65411848>bolt sticksI have smoothed out a multitude of rough guns using pic related. I'd polish the bolt body, then find a bore mop that fits the inside of the receiver and put that on a rod on a drill and polish the shit out of in there as well.

Here's your competition to buy one. Just saw this on normiebook, a page posted about the CMP M-14s. I knew boomers are fucked, but I didn't know they are THAT fucked. Coming from someone that's collected milsurp for 20 years
>>65417131>>65417145I'd say AR-15's are more the Mauser action of today rather than the Mosin.Whatever is clearly shittier than an Ar-15 but still an alright gun would be better off as "The mosin of today"
>>65417484The Mosin of today is $200 polymer stocked hunting rifles.

>>65417266>Us boomers deserve $200 CMP M14>You zoomers can buy a CMP M14 for minimum $2000>WHY ARE KIDS TODAY NOT WANTING TO WORK? Holy fuck, can boomers be any more tone deaf?
>>65418201That's a really good price, damn. ESPECIALLY for Cabela's, usually their used gun guys smoke crack or something before they price guns.I hate that I'm flat broke and at my lowest point in 35 years on earth, shit timing.
>>65418227No, they really can't. There were other boomers saying pretty much the same things: that they should get the lowest price, that they should get first pick, that they are entitled to the nicest ones, ect. A few already mentioned flipping them.So yeah, this'll be totally fucked and not fun like how it could be.
>>65418160Unfortuanantly America dumps its old surplus M16s onto poorer countries as free military aide so we probably won't be seeing any surplus M16s that aren't parts kits for a long time.
>>65418298If we got rifles back from those countries it'd all be shit with completely trashed stocks and worn out metal with no finish remaining. Uppers and lowers with massive slop and wobble. Shit no sane individual would want.
>>65418237Luckily the CMP is in full "fuck boomers" mode with the M14s and have a 2 rifles per person per year rule for em.
>>65418363>2 rifles per person per year ruleI never thought I'd be pleased to see rationing, but that's a massive relief. My broke ass might actually be able to get one eventually. Thanks, that lifted my spirits
>>65418237Which is funny, because isn't the CMP all about passing on marksmenship to the next generation. Boomers are the meme of pulling up the ladder only for them to sell it their grand kids for 3x the price. Everything from cars to houses to guns, boomers have ruined in the name of short term profit. >>65418363>Luckily the CMP is in full "fuck boomers" mode with the M14s and have a 2 rifles per person per year rule for em.If I was in charge of the CMP, I would prohibit people +60 from purchasing, and watch the amount of boomer seething happen.
The japs were on to something...

I'm of the opinion that CMP orders should be spaced out by a year and that every year, they look through ALL submitted orders, and give each unique SSN/person one, and once everyone has ONE, then they can loop back to the top and give 2nd/3rd rifles to the people who wanted them.

The M1As have been around for decades and more faithful kit built M14s have also been around for decades. Sure an actual surplus M14 is obviously more desirable, but the CMP tard filters and the 2 rifles per year limit should ensure a ready supply for years. The primary limiter will probably be converting the things since they make it seem more involved than just tack welding the selector. As a point of comparison, they got nearly 100,000 Garands back in 2018 and it took them years before they started running into shortages. Hey guys, I got an offer to purchase a Spanish M43 mauser (not an FR 7/8 to be clear) “chambered in 308” so the guy says. I’ve read conflicting reports from a decade ago on the half dead shooting boards saying that they are or are not 308 rated, hell some even said they’re all 7.62 CETME so even NATO ammo is pushing it pressure wise. Best I can tell there may have been some commercial guns rebarreled to actual 308 by some importer but again, nothing concrete. Any idea what the truth of the matter is?

I haven’t seen the stamp on the barrel but what I’m unsure of is that if the barrel is stamped just 7.62 that either A) it’s a 7.62 NATO barrel and may not handle 308 well long term or B) is a 7.62 CETME barrel and won’t handle either well
