Recent News:
- CMP has >100,000 M14s, they will be <$2k and have a 2 rifles per year buying limit (fuck boomers)
- CMP also got 5,000 of the Army's surplus shotguns
- CETME L kits coming in, now with early handguards

What's your "Fuck you, I like it" surp?

My 91/24. Works well with good clips and is as accurate as any run of the mill Mauser, Enfield, or Mannlicher. Recoil is soft, too.

I see Lee Enfield, I post Lee Enfield. Always loved them. To thread topic, I have this one, my grandfather bought it for me in a pawn shop when I was real young. No import marks on it, excellent condition. Despite the naysayers saying i should convert a different one, I converted it to a T replica. I don't plan to ever in my life sell it, and I like the aesthetics of the T, so fuck you, I like it.

Thoughts on sporterized rifles? The prices are attractive and I would like a historical rifle I won't feel bad for scratching up.
>>
Is the Springfield 1903 rear ladder peep sight near impossible get a good sight picture? My dad was having issues seeing a large orange target through his, worried it might be the early signs of degenerative eye disease, I try and it's nothing like my 1917's or M1's rear peep. It's fucking tiny, the target is dimmed because I'm assuming because the peep is so small little light gets through, and trying to line up a sight picture with the blade and the hood was an exercise in tedium. I was getting better groups with the battlesight. Is this normal? Also I learned first hand that the M1917 has a better combat sight by a wide margin than the M1903.
>>
>>65445450
I don't care much for them, but that's because I'm a Eurofag and would rather put the loicense fees and paperwork towards something that's in historically appropriate condition

>>65445467
How good are your eyes? What size aperture do you have? 5 was standard, but 4-thru-10 (“10” being 0.1” diameter) were available from the armorer’s kit and were intended to be fitted to suit the eye of the soldier. The sight hood was meant to be removed before shooting, though with the M1905 “sight cover” you can leave it on. The 547yd zero for the fixed “battle” sight is absurd. Reading in some of the period literature and they talk about such significant hold-unders at 100-300 yards that in the time it would take you to work that out you could have flipped up the ladder and set the elevation.
>>
>>65445765
My eyes are fine I guess, was making reliable hits on a 2/3 sillouette at 200 yards easy with my M1 and M1917, and my dad had no issues with his M1 either. The rifle is at my dad's so it's not handy right now. Is there a marking on the rear peep that will say what the size is? I know he doesn't have a micrometer to measure. Might have to buy a repro rear sight peep and open it up for him.
>>
>>65445584
Indian Police used shotgun Enfields, probably still do.
>>
>>65445818
The sight aperture plate will be numbered on the back. You might get a reproduction USMC “No.10” sight set: the front sight blade is twice as wide as standard and taller, bringing the battle sight zero down to 200 yards. The rear has only the single 0.1” aperture; no “Christmas tree”.

>>
>>65445840

Thanks for the info, his sights is definitely the Army configuration (rear sight has the christmas tree and small front sight hood), which I guess is ironic since he bought it from an old Marine.

most pre ww2 sporters were almost always done quite well. up until say 1950
you post an unrealistic example
if some guy bought a cheap krag in the 1920s or 30s and had a gunsmith sporterize it, that becomes a part of its history. krags weren't historical at the time. they were simply "the previous service rifle"
To me, WELL done sporters are just as desirable as factory original rifles. the vehement anti-sporterism just feels like zoomers who got into guns post 2020 and dont have a good sense of historical context. its like machining a police surplus glock for a red dot now.

you'd be destroying MORE history that way
>life spent as a military krag (likely saw no conflict): 1900-1925 (25 years)
>life spent as a beloved hunting rifle passed down through generations: 1925-2026 (101 years)
why does only the former count as "history"?

Are the Zastava .32 ACP pistols fun? I've been thinking either getting one of these or a P83 Wanad for a little more money. I'm not really concerned about practicality besides maybe ammo availability but I wouldn't mind something my gf could use if she has to.
>>
>>65446478
turn down the sporter barrel into a sleeve and bore out the T53 barrel, and sleeve it. then you get to keep all your lovely chinese proof marks. you do have a lathe right
>>
>>65446489
That's the most logical choice. I feel kinda weird about Johnny cashing an m28 together, with no import markings, then when I die having it float about some LGS like it's worth something.
Also I'm buying a dead air wolverine and having a guilt free suppressed mosin since the tula has already been fucked would be fun.
I really just need another receiver

I've sunk money into un-sporterizing old surp for the love of history. Very costly endeavor now, but it was easier when I still had a shit ton of parts I bought as a kid trapped in NJ who couldn't buy guns yet. Boomers now have this gay pricing scale for sporters, a more recent phenomenon in my area. My last chopped up K98k was $275 in 2020 and I had one last stock set with hardware from my youth to fix it.

Some questions for the 03 C&R FFL holders in here, how was the process of applying for it? Ever had anything yoinked by some nigger en route to your house? How often does the GheyTF audit your bound book? Are some shops monumentally retarded and don't understand what a C&R is?
I'm considering taking the plunge and getting one. Moving to Florida soon and have heard decently priced surp can be hard to find there, unless I join a gun club and befriend the boomers with leftist kids in other states who'd sooner toss dad's collection in a furnace.

I love my "Little Bee". One of the best deals around post-covid. It came with two mags, leather holster, and brush for under $230. It's probably the best condition milsurp I own. They come coated in cosmoline and basically unissued condition. They're still cheap enough that I say just go for it.

When you do get one though, you're going to have to take it completely apart to effectively clean it. Now, I'm afraid that you read that and thought "field strip". No. I mean COMPLETELY apart. Even the hammer assembly with all the little pins and shit. Once you're done though, it's a great little shooter.

All I've heard about P64s is the crazy DA trigger pull, as for the CZ they all look strange to me in a way that I don't vibe with. Process was easy, I had no problems with the ATF or county Sheriff receiving my paperwork. Only thing was it took a couple of weeks after the ATF charged my card for the license to actually receive it in the mail.
>Ever had anything yoinked by some nigger en route to your house
So far thankfully not. Think part of it will depend on the area you live in and the shipping service used. Hear Fedex has more issues with that than say UPS
>Audit
Haven't had one yet but it's also my first, will need renewing next year in September. I imagine I might get an audit after the renewal.
>Are some shops monumentally retarded and don't understand what a C&R is?
From everywhere I've bought online so far, no issues there. Having a C&R for me has been great because buying eligible surp online is as easy as buying shit off Ebay and I can get shit I just never find locally otherwise, just always have to sign for the package. On the downside, it's as easy as buying shit off Ebay so I do it more than I really should

I had my C&R for 9 years. It seems the process must be more streamlined these days, because when I applied for my first in 2015 it took the ATF 6 months to send my license. I was never audited; never met anyone personally who was audited and I think those guys who have told stories online about being audited just had the bad luck to live in regions where the ATF branch management wanted to hit a quota. Reminder that all they can do without a warrant is ask to see your bound book -and just the book- you don't have to give them access to your collection or let them on the premises you can just bring the book itself to the field office. Yes lots of people are assholes/Fudds and won't ship to an 03FFL; I personally think a lot of it is 01s wanting to punish anyone who can get around their 4473 extortion.

I've never had anything stolen in transit but during COVID my local UPS affiliate became so lazy they would often try to skip deliveries of large items or would fake signatures and on multiple occcasions left firearms unattended leaning against my front door.

Lads, what's a good spotting scope for shooting Milsurp rifles?

I'm looking at upgrading my spotting scope from a cheap Vortex I bought off my mate 10 years ago. I want something to allow me to see bullet holes out to at least 100m and observe fall of shot beyond that distance for friends without breaking the bank.
>>
>>65447119
Thats true. The da is dogshit. The blueing, machining, and form of the 64 is nice tho.
I think the 82 is best in 9x18 class by virtue of not having a heel release.

If you're going on vibes, by all means. Midway has wanads for 370. I'd get it now, I don't usually see them on the market for non Fudd prices.

AIM has cz83 for 350, you're getting a better cartridge, better capacity, and button mag release.

I recently purchased a 1929 Swiss Luger on an impulse, and I am now unreasonably excited to pick it up. The intricate mechanical bits tickle my Autism in ways that polymer striker slop never could. I also scored some 7.65mm ammo to go along with it.

What’s more surprising is Luger collectors kind of neglect the Swiss Lugers, despite their quality. They seem underrated considering how folks revere the K31.

>>65448302
Speaking on my own views on Swiss Lugers, I don't wanna pay the 2+ importers want for them, for a pistol in a caliber that is almost entirely reliant on foreign imports for ammo supply. I also don't like the grip safety, think it fucks up the profile, but that's more of a tolerable gripe than them being in .30 Luger
>>65448308
Should probably ask in /hg/ as well but I would think that is too loose. I'd be worrying it's not supporting the cartridge properly if the barrel is too far forward when firing. I'd just hope that it's the barrel locking surfaces that are causing that and not the slide surfaces, 1911 barrels at least are pretty cheap
>>

To be honest I don’t plan on shooting it much. I want to fire a few mags just to say I did, and check the zero/function. Supposedly the Swiss used a long 50m zero. Then I will lovingly preserve it in Renwax.

I am a fan of 9mm, and have enough modern 9mm handguns anyways. The obscure 7.65mm is kind of appealing, just because it’s the parent of 9mm. Also the slim pencil barrel looks more elegant.

>>65448424
> Because any .30 DWM shoots the exact same?
Pretty sure the early Swiss models are literally DWM parts kits that were assembled in Switzerland by Santa’s elves.
>>
>>65448308
That does look a tad loose, so I would be cautious. Like 90% sure it will work, but I would consider getting a headspace gauge prior to firing.
>>
>>65448308
all that matters is how much the barrel moves when the gun is assembled with the slide in battery

>Pretty sure the early Swiss models are literally DWM parts kits that were assembled in Switzerland by Santa’s elves.
Yes and thus cheaper, if I wanted a Swiss gun I'd buy one of those. I'm not a Luger enthusiast so the later Swiss models do nothing for me

While the Swiss Lugers don’t have the storied history of German Lugers. The Swiss military was enough of a deterrent that the Germans never executed operation Tannenbaum. So as far as military arms are concerned they served their purpose, albeit small.
>>
>>65448302
>What’s more surprising is Luger collectors kind of neglect the Swiss Lugers, despite their quality. They seem underrated considering how folks revere the K31.
K31s are also underrated as are K11s, 1911s, 96/11s etc because they are still coming in to this day. Every German Luger has essentially been found. Swiss rifles are of higher manufacture than any other bolt action but are still low because of good old supply and demand. Simpson alone is bringing in at least dozens of Lugers every year. If not hundreds.
>>
>>65448670
Yeah it's fun living here in Europe since all the 9mm Lugers keep disappearing

>>
>>65448843
Yes. That was not a thing here. I think it's pretty easy to understand why. there’s no stockpile of European state surplus ammo nor new production because literally no domestically produced firearms ever made in that caliber here and not enough imports to generate an economy over it.

It’s completely niche here. Only bought to feed the old imported Euro surp you got. And then only probably once.

I think if you can get something used that was made in Japan or Europe then you should be good. My $5 thrift store Good China 20-60x Bushnell is fine for 100yds and 200yds as long as it's reasonably light out. It gets very dim at full mag tho so I usually don't use it past about 40x.

922r has nothing to do with importing. It is specifically for guns made from imported parts in the US that would not be importable under 925d.

It is very reasonable for anybody who will be entering a newly constructed firearm into records which are available for inspection at the whim of the ATF, to only construct 922r compliant firearms.

Tell that to the guys who got popped for some other crime with foreign guns in the house and had the ATF called in, "oh look this gun isn't 922R compliant" *extra charges intensify*.
Yes, I get it, you could just stamp or engrave "Made in U.S.A" on shit as a CYA and nobody would ever know the difference, but sadly 922r still applies to possession. Ironic that it also applies to imported kitchen appliances, cars etc but only ever seems to be enforced in the realm of firearms, supremely ghey.

TLDR: don't be a retard and commit other crimes if you also own non-922r compliant guns.

https://www.falfiles.com/threads/new-run-of-keep-shooting-fal-metal-metric-mags-in-stock-review.512069/page-2

>This does not include magazine production this has been a mess from the start. We went to professional stamping die makers with FN Steyr prints paid 300k+ for tooling and it was wrong. There was no way for us in house to QC this type of tooling. We then took that tooling ran it found out it was wrong. We then spent years making improvement after improvement and got it pretty good then the tooling suffered a huge problem. Followed by our stamping company not wanting to make gun mags anymore. Then we searched for a company that would repair and run our dies that took years. Meanwhile we went to all the big metal mag companies and got quotes for $50 or more for just the body in the white. We were told it's hard to make to the Steyr print due to secondary trimming filing and deburing. We developed processes in house to do that work and now we are getting new dies/repairing dies.

Please understand. We are a small indie studio.
>>
>>65467504

stamping is fucking expensive to start up, and there is a level of magic to get stamping dies adjusted to the point of profitable operation. dies are not cheap, toolmakers and engineers are not cheap, equipment is not cheap, and press time is not cheap.

I'd like to get a French pistol representative of their engagements in the early cold war (French Indochina, Suez Crisis, Algerian conflict). Prices of goods are subject to extreme manipulation by the private and public sector. Certainly chink SKS imports wouldn't be worth $500 if they could still be imported, so the suggestion that $80->$500 is a reasonable measure of inflation is nonsensical.
But muh basket of goods is equally subject to manipulation. If the government subsidized goods to make the inflation numbers better (e.g. hand out drilling permits to crush OPEC and sink the price of oil; importing Somalians to drive trucks for below minimum wage), or changed the goods (which happens all the time) to cheaper ones to make the inflation numbers better, does that mean your money is actually worth more? What if all the goods in the basket were subsidized to $0, would that represent infinite deflation? I suspect the true cost of printing all that money would be revealed in the closest thing we have to a marker of the "real" value of money, which is the price of gold.

My Berty. Tall, beautiful, a misfit in my WW2 collection which ironically makes it perfectly appropriate as a French rifle. I only wish I'd got one with the upgraded thicc sights, but I still love her anyway.

If the page legitimately had no shipping costs listed, the item is a regular firearm, you live in the lower 48, and you confirmed the seller will not work with you to find an alternative shipping method, I would file a complaint with Gunbroker support and not pay for anything until they process your dispute.
You can probably get your purchase cancelled.

If you were a retard and overlooked the shipping costs section of the listing, then you will have to eat the F rating and non-payment complaint

DSA is so fucking incompetent it boggles the mind. Their entire reputation was built on assembling brand new Steyr parts onto receivers made by LMT. That was their dirty little secret back in the 90s and early 2000s. Practically all of the internals in their earlier SA58 commercial rifles were STG58 parts they got by the boatload in the Steyr deal. Once those parts dried up and they switched to in house receiver production, everything went straight down the toilet.

Posted in handjob general a few days ago but the milsurp bug bit me hard again. Only ever dealt with hand selected Swiss stuff from Simpsons + auctions where it is 1 specific gun, felt bad for never playing milsurp roulette. Anyways I got the CZ more out of some level of FOMO, admittedly they do tend to fit my hand better than Berettas. But as far as the enamel paint on the CZs and a worst case where it looks like Dazzle Camo, what are my options for touching it up? Can I just strip the slide and throw it in the oven with a bake on enamel? Also out of morbid curiosity, I know they had .380 and other versions of this as the CZ83. Is it possible to get an 83 slide and mag and have it converted like that? Can I just rebarrel one to make it take .380? Would rather not have to get 9x18.
>>
>>65472857
I’ve only seen one or two in person. The frts now making me regret not buying it just a little heh
>>
>>65472910
>Can I just rebarrel one to make it take .380? Would rather not have to get 9x18.
you can but the cost in parts will cost more than just buying one in the correct caliber. also with how the barrel is its not an easy swap like oh imma just going to swap the whole top half of the gun and be done in 10 seconds like it would be if you had 2 slides for a glock.
its a fixed barrel thats something you do once and leave it like that.
>>
>>65472910
I've only ever seen CZ-82s for 300, where are you finding them for 200? At that price I want one now.
>>
>>65473052
PSA labor day weekend [which is next weekend but i digress] had them both for 50% off. Seeing forums in 2007 and 2013 saying "yeah I got my CZ82 for 250 which is a fair price" made me not wanna FOMO on cheap milsurp desu.
>>
>>65473033
Thanks for the advice, it's not a big deal either way, curious more than anything else. I saw on reddit some guys who got CZ82s for say 200-300 and then admitted to spending 400-600 to have them refinished w/ new grips which seems nuts. I guess I can larp as an alcoholic detective in Prague [alcoholic part is redundant] now and also investigate a Giallo murder spree of supermodels in Milan alike now. Hope I get lucky with the milsurp roulette with good barrel if nothing else. Worst case is I'd take a mint barrel but 0 finish left and literally just bake on an enamel paint on the slide or even just sand & polish the slide and frame for a stainless vibe. Assuming I do anything at all which is unlikely because my STGW parts kit needs to come first.

Once I had all the parts I could have basically had everything done in a day. I’d say it was like 10 hours of work all said and done. First I had to strip the polyurethane off the old stock and gave it a light sanding. I ordered the forend splice and front band from a guy in Canada. I lucked out and got a middle band on eBay, and the sling swivel is just a cheap screw in swivel. I’m hoping to get an original some day.

Once I had the forend I had to sand it. The middle band wouldn’t even go on 1/4 of the way. I spent an hour sanding it by hand and got almost nowhere, so I ended up buying a cheap palm sander at Menards and it still took about an hour to sand the splice to a point where the middle band would go on all the way and to a point where the front band slid on.

I asked a guy on Gunboards for measurements so I knew how long to cut my splice. So I made my cut on the splice and cut a little off the end of the stock so the splice point would be under the middle band.

I used 2 dowels that were 2 inches long and 3/16” in diameter. I drilled my holes and glued them in the stock, then I eyeballed the forend the best I could, put a dab of paint on the ends of the dowels so it would mark where I had to drill the holes in the forend. It isn’t perfectly straight but with the bands on you can’t tell.

Then I glued everything, put the bands on to hold it in place, and let dry for 2 days.

After that, I did a coat of boiled linseed oil every day for a week.

Alright gents, the CZ & Beretta arrived. The triggers on both are great. CZs actually has one of the nicest consistent 'pressures' I've ever handled, even my Cajun'd P01 feels weird in the 1st stage. It's a good spring tension and crisp fucking break even in DA mode. Single action on both is nice. I got super fucking lucky on online milsurp roulette I suppose, outside of a few spots the finish on both are almost perfect. Both barrels are good, some strips next to the rifling on the beretta that look dirty but the base of the chamber has insanely crisp rifling still.

I believe the PSA sale is still going since it is a 'labor day' sale, about 600 after fees for the both of them, extremely happy with what I got.

I’m debating on buying a surplus Mauser or commercial Mauser action; potentially the bolt as well; and building a competition rifle from the ground up on the platform. I would then want to keep the classic milsurp look and have the bayonet lug and what not.

What’s the opinion on such an endeavor? I would convert the rifle to .308. I personally don’t mind spending 100 hours polishing, so whatever this entails does not bother me. I want to take modern parts and put them on a historic receiver, and put them in a reproduction milsurp stock and what not so that I have the precision of modern parts dressed up as a WW1 or WW2 rifle

Got my new M39 today everyone!
Thing is real nice. Its on a 1933 receiver which is very surprising to me. I think it was used for competition because the trigger on this thing is the lightest out of any Mosin I've ever fired or dry fired. I cant even feel the wall of the first stage before it fires. Upper handguard was on pretty tight so hopefully I was able to seat it correctly (had to wiggle it on and off). Also another thing that is strange to me is the part of the receiver that the safety rests on when engaged is almost completely worn away to the point I can push the safety over with just my thumb to un-engage it
