Why is all that's left of 8mm Mauser just Turkshit or Gypsy surplus? This sucks bros
>>65487922because everybody switched to 7.62 nato 70 years agoall the surplus 8mm in the world has been shot up or bought up by now

How do I check a barrel's condition without using a borescope or using molten sulphur like an absolute autist? Is this ok? I just want to shoot and have fun.
>>65488000Even Smarch?
>>65488038take it apart and have a look down the bore is a good place to start
>>65488038I mean if you take the bolt out and look down the barrel you should be able to tell if its good or notAs long as the rifling is there and it doesnt look like the surface of the moon you should be goodAlso that pic you have just shows the rifling is still present at the muzzle which is good
>>65488038i literally dont think about bore condition at all
>>65488038>Is this okis fine. Shoot mosin
>>65488038FOR YOU SEE COMRADE, IF YOU DO NOT BE CHECKINGS OF BORE CONDITION, BOOLET WILL NOT BE KNOWINGS OF CONDITION EITHER, AND WILL ASSUME TO SHOOT OF STRAIGHT VERY GOOD
>>65487895>Thread question: What's the most obscure surp you have an autistic fixation on?Right now, I have a fixation on Imperial rifles of the various great powers of WWI though I'm also interested in a certain US naval rifle. Also, what's everyone's favorite bore cleaner? I've put about 50 patches of Hoppes No.9 through this M91 I've picked up and am still pulling out crap after scrubbing with a bore brush.

>>65488038This isn’t even a way of telling bore condition. Just look down it, even the nicest most expensive match grade barrels are going to look like shit in a bore scope much less a 70 year old mass produced military rifle barrel. Nominally it should be shiny, but if it’s been shot and not cleaned it may look dull. Ditto for minor pitting. More major pitting will appear black but 99% of the time is zero cause for concern
>>65491342>>65491343Thanks! Haven't bought his book yet and I've been wondering what it said about these.
>>65492634It's only 6 pages total for the CR39 I can post the other 3 if you want, it just mostly info about the stock and production numbers, can't find it but someone here has the link to MEGA that has a collection of firearms book, that includes Chesspot to famas book. There is a book I would recommend that goes into more detailed info on the MAS platform which is called "Proud Promise" by Jean Houn, I used that one when I was looking for info on my MAS.
>>65492700I'd appreciate that when you've got a sec, thanks. This the Houn book, or is there a separate book for the bolt actions?
>>65492813Damn it, forgot picn

>>65495968Clunkier than shitty mixmaster mosin refurbs, with ammo that is triple the cost of 7.62x54r. I would not buy one unless youre the kind of autist with mannequins in uniforms in your house and you need to complete an italy impression.
>>65495968theyre neat, easy to find, shoot like dogshit and 90% of the clips dont work right. get one
>>65495968I bought one (1) box of 7.35 to shoot through mine and I didnt even finish the first clip. I dont think I've even looked at it in 5 years. And it was one of those pre-68 finn marked ones which were supposed to be "better" than the ooga booga royal tiger ones. I would not buy one unless it was literally $70 or something to use as a wall hanger, unironically. Folding bayonet is neat though

How "interchangeable" are ammo pouches from the two world wars? Will Springfield strippers with ammo fit in German pouches? Will Lee-Enfield strippers fit in Russian/Soviet nagant pouches? What about German ammunition in US pouches?
>>65497958They are for the most part interchangeable. maybe possibly you will fit 1 fewer russian/british clip just cause the clips are slightly wider due to the rimmed cartridges but its probably negligible.
>>65497958The only pouch I have are the Russian ones that came with everyone's mosins. It does appear to fit 303 clips easily. I assume german/american pouches are interchangeable as Mauser and .30 Springfield clips are pretty much identical
We're only ever gonna get Euro pistols imported, huh.https://mokasraifus.com/product/polish-radom-p-83-pistol-9mm-makarov/
>>65498879Fuck that kike reddit bastard.
>>65498879>only ever gonna get EuroWhat else are you expecting man? If it's US they're not imported, Euro includes former USSR, leaving the third world and if they have surplus anything they got it from the above as surplus in the first place.
>>65498879Who else makes pistols to import? SK I guess.
>>65498184>>65498371Thank you
>>65499446>>65499466Just a more interesting locations would be neat. Like from Africa or South East Asia. Though they're poor enough to keep using them so we won't be seeing them for a while.
>>65498879I’m gonna be the one that imports all the WW2 era 1911s from the Philippine military is still using.
How many surps could have been saved from being complete sewer pipes if non-corrosive primed ammo was introduced the same time that smokeless powder was? It pains me to see otherwise beautiful rifles have absolutely garbage bores due to how someone was negligent with corrosive ammo.

>>65488038Here is my Three step process of checking the bore on mil-surps1.) Open or remove the bolt2.) get a light source, like flashlight and shine it up the barrel3.) look down the barrel from the opposite endThe shinier the barrel and more unblemished the rifling, the better
>>65502142you got all the other ones already? cause it only gets a lot worse

Picked up picrel recently for a great price at my LGS. It's in amazing condition, all matching including floor plate and cleaning rod. Perfect condition below stock line. Only 10k of the 1935 carbines made. 7mm is my favorite caliber for mausers.
>>65502176Wow CAPTAIN MEGABRAIN that's literally what anyone who knows a gun from a pvc pipe does to check a bore.
>>65504349Great pick up /k/omrade. Jelly
>>65454897For FN-49 anon. From info in Goose's book ("The FN-49, The last old-world military rifle", 2nd Ed), looks like 6,160 imported by Interarmco in ~1966. Of these, approx. 2,200 were AFNs - select fire - so Interarmco notified the IRS, modified them to remove the select-fire capability, and evidently sold them as normal firearms once modifications were complete.Unless you're asking about the contract for the Luxembourg Gendarmerie? Which I think was a separate contract.
New Enfield!

>>65504695>>65504700Oh hi Mark.
>>65504737>MkI>1911Whew. I don't even know why they bothered making replacement MkI actions after they were making MKIIIs.Also, new Berthier too.
>>65504746Polish :3
>>65504746>don't even know why they bothered making replacement MkI actions after they were making MKIIIs.I think it was the RN. This one was probably thrown together as war emergency in 1914 based on the barrel date.
>>65505026Even that kinda doesn't make sense as at that time they were starting to convert Mk1 to MkIII with the charger bridge. The butt on my MkI is from a MkII**, which I think only the Navy used. I wonder if SNP is something naval.
>>65506336Probably just institutional inertia. We made like 100,000 Krags even after it was apparent that it would be replaced with a Mauser copy. Neat to have such an elaborate unit designation; mine just has some previous owner's initials scratched on it.
I have a MAS36 that shoots about 4inches to the right at 100 yards. It has a +8G4 rear sight. To confirm I'm not a complete mouthbreather I would need to locate a +8G8 rear sight to get closer to zero, right? Or do I need to remove the foreend with the special screwdriver and wiggle shit around?
Where would I go for set of front sights for a p14 in Australia?I should get the throat checked before spending time and money on bedding and sight adjustment.
>>65507379Don't worry about it. You aren't going to find any spare rear sights anyhow.Removing the forend will change the bedding and it's the reason why most don't shoot right in the first place. Assuming changes over time hasn't already messed with the bedding. The bedding on these is something that shouldn't work but it does. It's very French and I like that.
Rate my Lee Enfield stock repair. The whole middle section was destroyed due to the previous owner badly attempting (and failing) to remove the screw. I took the remains of the old screw out, repaired the damage with hardwood plugs, and replaced the brass screw with a new slightly bigger one. Not perfect but the rest of the stock isn't perfect either. It will be going on my currently stock-less 1917 Lithgow.>>65488072Based. Neither do I>>65488722>GasolineWould not recommend. 20 years ago I was soaking a Mauser bolt in gas. I grabbed it out of the bowl with my ungloved hand and instantly felt like my hand was on fire. I washed it as fast as I could but the damage was done. I had skin problems with dryness on that hand for the next 7 years.
Got around to loading up the 1822 Springfield I got back in January. This is my first BP muzzle loader and oldest surp. Its just good solid stupid fun to make a bunch of smoke and noise. But holy shit cleaning the fouling afterwords. I'll never complain about cleaning corrosive ammo again.
>>65509519Not a repro? It’s in absolutely gorgeous shape. Have fun scrubbing
>>65509039>Would not recommend. 20 years ago I was soaking a Mauser bolt in gas. I grabbed it out of the bowl with my ungloved hand and instantly felt like my hand was on fire. >>65488722I've seen references to cleaning guns with gasoline, what's the deal with that?
>>65510013boomer's houses used to be made of asbestos so there were no consequences for being retarded with flammable substances
>>65488038>without using a borescopeWhat separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom is our ability to use tools you luddite>but muh chimp poking shit with a stickDon't be pedantic
>>65510013Immerse a fully cosmoline caked nugget/sks receiver in a double capped and sealed 4” pvc tube full of gasoline for a month and the cosmo comes off like a stripper’s thong when it comes out. You will barely even be able to smell the cosmo anymore (which I now miss)WARNING: do this outdoors and/or on a cold day. Not because of fire hazard (wear a static discharge grounding wire) but because the fumes will have you hearing colors. Gas is expensive now though so do something less dumber instead
>>65488718Where the fuck do these fuckers get off with this shit?? Charging non-degraded non-corrosive boxer-primed brass-cased $$$ for that shit. Fuck

I was having a great amount of trouble putting an "m1907" sling on my garand, non of the diagrams looked right, and then I realized the slings in the pics had 2 hooks and mine had three. Turns out I have a BAR sling. It is marked JF-1964 but Google didnt turn up anything.
Should I be concerned if an old Springfield I'm looking at has a 2 inch semi-circle shaped cracked on the side of the stock and a half inch chunk missing by the upper tang?
>>65487895I kinda want to rechamber a MAS to 308. Lothar Walther will turn the barrels.
>>65514154>semi-circular crackEmanating from where? Would the seller remove the buttplate to see if it originates from a screw hole? Can you spread it by flexing the stock? If so, buy it with intention of making a repair>chunk missingCould be a bedding issue. When the recoil lug isnt tight the receiver will be sloppy and the tang will blow that chunk out under recoil. How is the overall condition of the stock?
>>65514154You mean a M1903 rifle, or one of the other “Springfields”? If the former, then >>65514479 is likely correct.
