My first rifle was basically OP with sightmark instead on a DPMS with the picatinny gas block my dad got me. Pic related is the first rifle I built a few years later.

My first was a yugo mauser. I don't have any pictures of it.

I got an SKS from a pawn shop when I was like 20 and it was pretty great, but I ended up selling it because I wanted an AK. I wish I held on to both. I still have my first firearm tho, a mossberg 500.

This was taken when I got back home to my shitty Baltimore townhouse. Notice the HBAR barrel thanks to Maryland gun laws. Sold to me for $650 which isn't the worst price for a complete rifle + the poortex red dot and a goyselle trigger pack.

mine was a Stag "Stag-15" with the retro furniture at 16". Bought on a whim during 2020 time (they were the only company that had any stock left) and was of good quality. Only thing that I would change is the phosphate BCG- maybe a different barrel profile too, but it ran thousands of rounds flawlessly.

The first rifle I purchased was a moist nugget, followed by a saiga in 5.45. As was a the style at the time. Both have since been sold.

Picrel was my first non piece of shit rifle, and first AR. I still have it. Want to say this is from like 2012

First AR-15, second rifle (Mosin was first duh!). Mix of a RRA lower and Bushmaster faux dissy upper with a knockoff red dot. Bought it from a guy off ARFCOM that was local in 2011. I still use the upper and lower receivers but the parts have been swapped out over time.

Some literal nigger at Gayslee was painting witness marks on fasteners and then AFTER doing so applying final torque, obviously not understanding at all what the fuck the purpose of witness marks even is. Gayslee then coped by saying it was there standard assembly SOP to do so, torque after witness markings.

>>
>>65335696
Witness marks might not be for end-user torque confirmation and for different manufacturing-step processes. There's a lot of dumb hyper-specific steps in manufacturing processes I've seen in the aerospace industry that are purely because of cost efficieny or FAA compliance.

I don't know the full details so I can't say either way, but yeah we shouldn't be so quick to assume the main function of those witness marks without context.

there was one machining process I had to do where I made .010 grooves in plastic fuel gauges with an ancient gauge checker for the lines that would end up all being laser-marked anyway. Why did I have to waste a full work day in labor hours scoring a few dozen plastic pipes before being lasered? I don't know man

I dunno what you wanna know but it was my grandpa's, he passed away in 2012 and it sat in the gun safe until grandma passed away in 2023 and then went to me. I've only put like 4 or 5 mags through it myself and I'm pretty sure he only took it out like a couple times.
It's front heavy as a bitch with the tri rail, gas system and barrel qd all up there. Trigger is standard milspec and nothing to write home about. The lower and upper mate up kinda loosely on mine, dunno if that's a common thing or just this one. The stock is as good as everyone says it is and the ergonomics are very comfortable, the bolt catch is an especially neat feature that I wish more guns had.
That's about all I've got off the top of my head. I actually literally just finished replaying the mw2 campaign today again (internet was out all day the other day and I went ahead and started that up to kill time) and it made me wanna trick this gun out. But since templar is the only company making anything at all for the ACR literally everything for it is expensive as fuck and I'd really rather put that money towards the stuff I actually use, otherwise I'd have this thing SBR'd with a short barrel and an aluminum lower. There have been a few times I've thought about trading it for something I know I'll have more fun with but then I take it out and know I'd regret that very much. I love it for sentimental reasons but I wouldn't recommend getting one unless you REALLY have the desire and the money to burn for a nostalgia piece.

Ah okay, fair enough. Idk you did a pretty good job answering my vague question lmao. It’s just such a cool rifle and I’ve always wanted to shoot one, but never meet your heroes yk.
If you don’t mind me asking, what’s your main squeeze? And how does the ACR compare to it in terms of shooting characteristics, handling, and reliability? Just so I have a metric for comparison I guess lol sorry for the flood of questions
>>
>>65335756
what's wrong with cutwater
>>
>>65335902
I'll be honest I'm not much of a rifle guy in the first place. Handguns and shotguns are more my thing, I only have one other AR and it's just a $200 PSA upper on an Aero lower with an lmb2s in it which I threw together for 2 gun and 3 gun use. Can't say much on shootability and reliability of the ACR since I've barely shot the thing, shoots like an AR I guess and it's gone bang every time. Haven't done any real drills or precision shooting with it if that's what you wanna know about. If you ever find one for rent or something then by all means give it a go, I just don't think it's all THAT great as a rifle due to the weight and parts scarcity/price.

Not the other ACR anon, but I do have one I traded a 551A1 for a while back. Basically agree with everything he said, especially the front-heaviness. I have since built out a set of URGIs that are far more pleasant to carry, and I use those as my go-to 5.56 rifles.
As much as I would also like to sell or trade it, I agree that it just wouldn't be right. Yes, it's heavy, obsolete, and has basically no aftermarket unless you have too much time and money to waste. But it's such an iconic piece that it would be a shame not to have that piece of firearms history in your own collection.
Prowl small auction houses if you really want one. A local one in TX had a black one go for $1200, I wish I bid on it.

How many of you guys with collapsible stocks keep it fully collapsed when shooting? The LoP is like 10" which is crazy short compared to pretty much any fixed stock rifle, so certainly that can't be a comfort preference, right?
>>
>>65335994
Just in my experience, I only ever fully collapse it for like transporting it around or in vehicles, shit like that. Besides that, I find the most comfortable length with my equipment and keep it at that. With fixed stocks, specifically the A2 stock, I find it extremely comfortable for any sort of shooting without armor. With armor on, or when shooting from less than ideal positions, fixed stocks kinda suck and I find myself having to physically move my face closer to optic and whatnot. Otherwise get fucked, should’ve gotten a red dot. That’s where collapsing stocks really come in handy, just having it adjusted perfectly to where it’s comfy with armor and I can just make it a little longer if without armor
