>seems a little above my pay grade
>Oh I just want a tool that’ll perform to a high standard and be reliable
you have a few options at around $1000USD range. Some notable names:
>IWI Zion-15 11.5" Pistol
>Springfield Saint Victor 11.5" Pistol
>Bushmaster Zulu 10" Pistol
>Sig Sauer M400 Tread
If you want to save a bit more sub <$1000USD, these brands are also good budget-friendly, pre-made builds. It has some manufacturing liberties (like not CNC'ing the upper/lower receiver to be 100% smooth or flat), but if you just want a reliable tool, these would be perfectly fine for milspec grade:
>DPMS 11.5" AR15 Pistol
>Radical Arms RF15 Pistol
>Radical Arms "Forged" Pistol
>Andro Corp Industries ACI-15 Pistol
>Rock River Arms DS2144 LAR-15M
If you want to spend just a bit more for more quality sub <$2000USD then these are next:
>Harrington & Richardson TIA AR15 Pistol
>Colt M4 5.56x45mm NATO Pistol 11.5"
>CMMG Banshee Mk4 Pistol
>Battle Arms Development Workhorse
Why "pistol" AR? So you can legally play around with barrel length- compared to a "rifle" registration on the pre-build where you cannot legally shorten the barrel later, in terms of US law. Also, don't be afraid of Palmetto State Armory. Their QC is adequate and will get you in the hobby. Later when you have the money, you can think about upgrades or custom builds.

Well money isn’t really a huge concern. I’d rather not get raped by an overpriced mediocre product but still. Also for the record I’m not against putting together an AR, I just don’t wanna fuck with changing out barrels and gas systems myself just yet yk. But yeah thanks for the recs, I was looking at a few decently priced colts at a gun store, so I may go in that direction, at least for a lower or something. Would you recommend for or against LE trade ins?
>>
>>65328880
What do if barrel is angled 1mm off center to the left of where the handguard is pointing (16" BA Hanson barrel, 15" inch Expo HG) , and no one in town does reciever lapping. She holds groups but the gas block touches the left side of the handguard easier than the right. Functionally fine but the rear irons windage has to be dialed all the way to the right.

Recently bought a LEO trade-in Colt 6945 CQB upper for shits and grins. Other than being fucked if I ever want to replace the barrel and the fact that the QD sockets are not anti-rotation; its good stuff. usually they're equipped with a 1990s setup with the front sight post and clamshell handguard. They're reliable, but you'll be spending the same to update the accessories to modern day.
>Also for the record I’m not against putting together an AR
my one real advice is that I should have built my own AR instead of buying a pre-built. Its the same argument for custom gaming PC's. You can choose exactly what parts you want and save money that would otherwise be lost to a brand's profit margin.

Agreed, I'm a BCM shill normally but imo for an 11.5 PSA is perfectly fine. I know last thread someone was talking about stretching out their 10.3s to 500 yds but is that really the primary purpose you know? PSA will do for 100 and in at paper/steel larp targets (or quantavius entering your home)

11.5" is my ideal SBR barrel length but a 14.5" would be interesting too. Either way spare barrels are pretty much unobtanium.

Deflection is occurring between the nut and rail interface. If your barrel nut is shifting around on your receiver, you are fucked long before deflection becomes an issue.

People are telephone game hearing
>The mk2 receiver is more rigid

>The mk2 receiver is more rigid, thus less barrel deflection
A mk2 or a big ass billet upper is truly more rigid and capable of better accuracy than a forged receiver but it has nothing to do with the rail.

They're not as slim/slick as USGI, but are less bulky and PMAGs. If you're trying to stuff 3x in a pouch that just barely fits 3x USGIs... probably won't fit. If it is a pouch that fits USGIs comfortably, they'll probably stuff.

well, sure. But that's why I said there's budgeting. Under $2KUSD, maybe you would want a BCM or FN or SOLGW if you can get a good deal. But if you are a newbie- who would inevitably play with modifications anyway, there's nothing wrong with a sub $1KUSD rifle. A used Colt or similar can be had for that price if you prefer the nicer brands. If people were honest about brands, they would talk about how some of the cheaper ones even use Colt internals. Some come with Toolcraft BCGs. Some use barrels from other brands. It's up to the buyer to determine which prebuild is right for their budget.

I don't think recommending PSA with out the prerequisite knowledge to check their QC is not good advice.

Buying a prebuilt always means you're playing odds, and people recommend brands with good QC to better those odds to basically guarantees. PSA on the other hand is a much larger likelihood of QC issues that aren't immediately obvious but will limit longevity.

It isn't advisable to recommend them to novices who do know how or don't have the tools to QC it themselves >>65330985

>we’re going to bump our gun sales for one quarter by eliminating an entire market forever
Where did you get your business degree from, BOFA University?
>>
>good advice build recommendations based on price point
Which is not the best possible advice. Your PSA suggestion essentially is telling them to buy 2 guns. One shitrod now to learn the ropes, and a good one later.

They need only the good gun.

Once they have a good gun they will now have a proper refrence point for quality.
>but not everyone can afford
If you can save $500 you can save $1000, and then not have to spend $1000 later.
>but PSA jusasgud if you fix it
Guages, tools, postage, time... the reason good guns start at $1000 is because it costs $1000 to get a good gun in the customers hand.

The difference between my holosun 507c and my T2 under nods is irrelevant.
Assuming both are at the appropriate level of brightness both are completely adequate.
I can only speak for me but I don’t know how far people are shooting with passive aim for whatever differences may exist to become meaningful.
I think people really major in the minors on night vision performance with a dot.
The best thing about a T2 and NV is that it uses a dial so it’s very easy to adjust with gloves which matters when you live in a place with winter or if you just wear gloves for the LARP.

Even ignoring nods, one range trip in mixed lighting and you'll change your tune. Holosun optics just don't pass light as well. You still have your field of view and other eye of course, but precise aiming will really suffer. Reticle brightness is not the issue.

I learned this 10 years ago with a comp m3 next to a holosun 503c at about 8pm. Sun was almost down, trying to shoot a steel target at 100 yards. It was too bright out for a weaponlight, too dim for a holosun. The aimpoint still worked.

Even if we did kill 250k Insurgents, arguably the Holosun's in Ukraine on both sides have been undergoing more rigorous environments in peer to peer application. Yes it is annoying and gay that Holosun doesn't just stick with a handful or SKUs over a longer period of time, but perhaps that standard is an outdated one anyway with improvements in MFG processes, quality control, and consistency even when new designs are spun up.

Word. I have two YHM kurz adapters atm so I'm a believer in them. I have the Ti on a Polo K to help keep the weight down but I opted for the steel version on a Fireteam 556 since its an inconel can that potentially could see multiple mag dumps so thermal expansion won't be an issue.

Eh
I get where you're coming from but I had chat run the numbers real quick
over a 1/2" characteristic length (say the length of threads on the mount itself), for a ~room temp to 500deg F delta... the differential thermal expansion is ~13um or about 0.0005" so half a thou... this is less than most of the machining tolerances in the threads and the can and is comparable to the preload/stretch of the threaded section to begin with when you tighten the mount into the can...
I'm not an engineer... but I've easily run north of 15k rounds through Ti YHM Kurz mounts inside of various inconel and stainless cans (NO Ti cans at all), and I've never had a mount come loose or any issues. Just saying!

>>
>>65333454
The 4x ACOG comes in 3 varieties.
One uses tritium for illumination, this is the most classic option.
Another uses no illumination, idk its designation.
And the TA02 is battery powered for illumination while also having a forward mount for an RMR whereas the other two are rearward.
>>
>>65333666
I believe the TA02 is the model that I'm settling on since it allows a forward mount for RMR or other dots.

Consider those 75 bthp. ~300y frag range on a 14.5 (2000fps threshold versus 77's 2250) and dramatically better against the environment than ball ammunition. It'll show when shooting 200+ across field across mounds/gullys against left, right wind, but also help fight lift and up and down drafts. It's not true match for velocity deviation but its a whole lot better than ball stacking deviation on top of poor BC. You can vertically miss shooting 6" target up/down a ridge at 200 yards with m193

>>65334017
Better then worse. Not sure what the question is.
Ball being ~50cpr and 75 frontier ~70 cpr makes the difference in performance a lot more worth it than it used to be when you look at costs/volume ratio. If you're trying to hit exposed head or animal vitals to 300 you probably are doubling+ your chances depending on environment. Yeah, ball will generally do a full sized broad side torso at 300 but that's a really low bar. At one time match-lite+ started at double the cost or more and now it's only 50% more. It starts making sense as a general concept to zero with match, keep 1k reserve, practice LR only occasionally with match, and then maybe practice 50 yards and in with ball.
I haven't written down field performance differences but if you seriously test ball on head/vitals sized targets across different fields on different days for first round hit performance and expect your AR to be 300m capable then you'll be pretty disappointed and it has almost nothing to do with glass.

Duals are better optically, but when you take them off during the day you're left with a fucking heavy counterweight in the back. Pvs 14 barely needs a counterweight.

So now I'm saving up for some new tubes that will be transferred into the duals and one mono is going to be gone.

Lightweight glass sucks for the most part, and you'll want to use sac lenses front and back to prevent scratches. The plastic scratches much easier than milspec

The only benefit to using duals is having your hand eye coordination enhanced and seeing past your optic with your non dominant eye. I call that a skill issue though. Nods are awesome, high recommend dude. Magic in a tube.

Only time you'll feel like night vision is bullshit is when its a new moon with overcast and then you cant actually see shit, or if you are in deep woods and branches are raping your eyeballs because you cant see those while bushwacking.

no I like getting use to this kinda stuff before I need to + some low light conditions have not been conducive to good reticle illumination. It was doable but I kinda make a note of the conditions when I can't immediately lock on the Chevron due to blending in with the lighting of the environment and the low illumination of the reticle.

I imagine in *most* real life booger picking scenarios this would be a non-issue with a WML to light em up, I know that ninja silent sentinel killer that would necessitate shooting em without using my WML and in that scenario idk how realistic it is to grab a sliver of tape with a tiny glow stick stuck to it from my grip and slapping it on my gun. Although it sounds like it would work.

What is the drippiest A2 grip someone can buy? Were only A1 grips made of they cool fiber-polymer bakelite-esque stuff?
