what are some of the most bonkers technology to come from weapons development?
I watched a video on this thing:
Advanced Inertial Reference Sphere

it is the most advanced inertial guidance system ever developed and was for the Peacekeeper MX missile.
It had an independent all internal mechanical guidance and was good to launch from anywhere on the planet to anywhere on the planet within 8 meters
it floated in a thin film of beryllium liquid that was recycled through internal pumps and had gyros that spun so fast (hundreds of thousands of rpm) they used gas bearings which required 0.00005" tolerances, done with 1970s era machining.
>>
Because the question those advancements are answering is "Will my nation survive without this?"

The internet was invented when they tried to create a digital interface to communicate with spy dolphins

I fucking love Alexander's videos.

How do they get that degree of accuracy when the planet has uneven gravity due to it being a imperfect sphere?
>>
>>65335723
They didn't, it had like a 50-100m CEP not 8m. And that's part of the reason why.

The flight control computer is programmed using the input of an exquisitely accurate gravity map of the Earth.

Thanks to Al Gore.
