Looking at my HKs and Walthers the new USP does seem to have an abnormally white laser engraving, it's almost silver where all the others are either burnt-yellowish or black. The black ones are much deeper cut

Maybe it's a surface treatment difference? I know the P8 has a different finish than regular USPs but that doesn't explain youse guys white engravings. Different batch treatments producing hardness variances maybe?

>>65337023
Yeah a compact is probably the way to go then, because a little tiny pocket or subcompact is going to be too unpleasant to shoot for a beginner to stick with it and we don't want him to get discouraged early on

I really don't shoot my 3 single action revolvers at all.

The Pietta Colt black powder is cool but you spend way more time loading that shooting.

The Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 mag, also cool, but it's just a pig, not especially accurate, slow to load/unload, and expensive ammo.

The NAA mini revolver is for holing shitbulls when I need to rectum carry and only fun as a novelty.

None of them are really for "collection", I just bought them when I had different tastes or opportunistically and they aren't really worth enough to bother selling.

NOT Wilson Combat’s true zero. Fucking garbage

I grade plates by how low the BUIS are. So Nighthawk’s IOS and some combinations score high.

Nighthawk’s IOS is super low, can swap plates in 30 seconds without removing the optic screws, advertised as perfect return to zero but I don’t have a ransom rest to test it but shift has been imperceptible to me. You can revert to a Novak rear iron in seconds. Only issue is that front cantilever optics like RMR HD or SRO cover up the IOS’s set screw so you have to remove the optic to swap plates for those optics, unless you cut a slot in the SRO’s lens housing to reach the set screw.

Staccato/DPO cut has been good to me. Very wide aftermarket for plates, if properly torqued and vibra-tire’s the plate won’t come loose for a long time if ever. I’m using an Eleven 71 design plate with a 10-8 Glock suppressor rear sight for the EPS plate. Perfect combat zero with a .180 front sight.

I haven’t had personal experience with DW’s CZ cut but OEM plates were very hard to come by and they expected you to fuck around with Glock rear sights and finding the right height for your gun.

I just bought a Springfield AOS cut gun so I haven’t got any real experience with it yet but from reading online the issue is that if you use CLP or other solvents, since they drill the optic screw holes through the entire slide the CLP can work itself up those threads and ruin any loctite.

No experience or research
>Trijicon’s RMR
I don’t recommend this one since it’s old and lacks any sort of recoil lugs for the plate itself. Not many options for other plates. Super tall BUIS. The staccato cut and plate system is cheaper
>CHPWS cross cut
My Kimber 2K11 I think uses it. Really confuses me why they used this cut when they have their own plate system that the Warrior DS uses. Newer Kimber 2K11 have this 7 hole cut that can use multiple different plates I think.
>>
>>65338194
>>65338241
>Atlas
Seems to be a very very robust plate and mounting system. Must be good since ATLAS uses it. Sits tall though.
>cabot
No idea, don’t like their guns but ACW uses it but they’re weird.
>Colt cut
No idea at all. Seems very tall and they have no option for BUIS. Seems to be they’re like 15 years behind the curve.

I think Nighthawk IOS cut is the best but it doesn’t have a lot of plate options (no forward iron for DPP optics for instance) and probably no possible way to mount the COA.

A direct mount COA is probably one of the best options. But Colt’s new MRS-1 optic is promising and it would be nice to have that on a Colt 1911 (using a DPO or IOS cut of course), or direct mount ACRO.

There is also the COP optic plate
(Charyn Precision Optic Plate (COP)) that was designed by Charyn Precision and Eleven 71 design, Charyn Precision is a 1911/2011 custom builder that has a 10 year wait list for a gun. Pic related. The only way to get this optic plate/cut is from Mercier Pistol works which is also an exclusive custom shop but he focuses only on custom work instead of complete builds.

There are some other options out there as well, infinity makes some direct mount slides where they enlarge the rear of the slide. They also don’t use a traditional internal or external extractor to get in the way of the screws. Stealth Arms platypus also has a great system too.

https://twosee.us/
These guys also do some crazy direct mounts and plates, their SRO direct mount is so low they have to trim the slide for the front cantilever. I looked into it and it was just as expensive as getting a NHC IOS cut either from Nighthawk or Dual Hammer (dual hammer is 100 bucks cheaper than NH but no iron sight cover plate which NH includes).

There are only 6 or so guns here that I regularly shoot, but I try to put at least 100 rounds through each handgun every year. The only exceptions are the MAC 11 and the Tokarev, but those right two columns are inherited and I don't take them out much except for the 22/45.

The front sight on my new P-10C Ported seems to be slightly off center I'm pretty sure. Can't tell if it's noticeable with this lighting. After a quick search this seems to be a common-ish issue with these.
I'm not sure how much of an issue it could even be for actual handgun effective ranges, but it's still triggering my autism pretty hard. I already ordered the vice tool to try to correct it, but I've never done it before. Is it at least trivial to do?

I've pretty much owned them all full size 4", full size 4.5", compact 4", and for USPSA I was using a steel frame 4.5" with various upgrades.
My steel frame is having extraction/ejection issues which was the impetus for going Glock. Now that I've used the Glock I don't even care about my polymer ones that are functioning.

Just to addon to what Burt said at the end of the last thread

Handguns are fucking awesome. I'm a bit longer in the tooth than some of you and I've had many, many hobbies in my lifetime. Absolutely nothing compares to handguns. Sure /trv/ is great (when you're young) and /ck/ is probably one of the most important skills for a person to learn but all the other boards are mostly boring or some fag bullshit. There are infinite things to do and learn in handgun ownership. There are always new cartridges to try, new changes to your gun, new things to learn by taking it down to the last piece etc.

Even other types of guns can't compare because I can carry my handgun nearly everywhere. Sure I love my long guns but they sleep under my bed for 360 days out of the year whereas my pistol almost never leaves my side.

My point is that sometimes when you're buying your tenth handgun after being in the hobby for years and that rush just doesn't hit the same it's important to step back and realize how great of a position you're in. If someone picks up an Ultra Rare 1976 topless Dolly Parton stamp, I'm sure they'll enjoy looking at it. But that stamp is not going to blow a hole in some carjacker's frontal lobe when you're stopped at a redlight on the way home; my SP101 Match Champion that I slid onto my belt 7 minutes ago at the LGS will.

>>
I think before handguns become your personality you need to know how to work on a car. You don't need to know how to rebuild an engine but you should be able to check adjust valve lash, replace a timing belt, rebuild a dif, change a clutch, swap every suspension component, replace an alternator, radiator, etc. if you don't have the tools to do those jobs it's probably a better purchase than a 10th handgun
>>
>>65339779
Do you know why exactly it's having those issues?
>>
>>65339894
This is how the issue presents itself
Gun goes off
Extractor grabs casing
Slide moves back
Casing fails to eject
Slide goes forward
Casing is jammed behind new round

One of two things is happening here
1) extractor spring tension is too high
2) slide does not have enough velocity to eject the round

Neither of these reasons make sense because I have an OEM spring in my extractor (replaced after the original got wore out).
So if the slide doesn't have enough velocity with a fresh spring then basically this is implying factory ammo doesn't have enough power to cycle the gun which is silly.
Did Walther send me a lemon extractor spring that has too much tension? Idk maybe.

>>
>>65339932
The aftermarket option is from ZR tactical and is an extra powered spring compared to OEM I believe. The reason for this belief is because my rate of failure increased from 1 in 100 round failing to eject to 3 in 100.

Soo fix it if it bugs you. Or shoot it first so you don't ruin the zero. It's not an "issue" and it's not odd, there's no reason to nanometrically align the sights, either by the factory or personally. And you may do more harm than good (good being subjective) trying to "fix" it. If you ding the sights how's your tism going to fare then?

>>65339821
You can't restore it, it's laser etched into metal. Only the stuff on the plastic frame is paint, that you might be able to clean somehow or certainly lay over a new layer of crisp white, but you aren't gonna make burnt metal whiter down in those little tiny letter channels without acid or something that will harm the finish just as much. Or you could be like one of these wierdos who rubs crayon wax or paint into the slide engravings yuck

>>
>>65340490
Because that straw yellow color is already bare metal, that is the color of heat-tempered steel, cut through the black nitride finish into white metal. The only way to make it brighter would be to remove more metal and expose white metal beneath, without burning that into straw color in the process

I think the ones that are whiter are just shallower, so that is the ash color of the nitride layer or something. Just a guess. Because on my guns, the ones with very shallow engravings I can barely feel with a fingernail are white (on black nitride) and the yellow ones are very deep and catch a nail easily

>>65340501
That one's weird because the Rhino comes with a rail on the top for an optic in that exact location... so he got the rail-less version, and then added a plastic printed rail to put an optic where a factory rail would have been lol

Gonna ask about this here as well. I recently got a Colt M1917 and the brass is deforming like this, bulging out a little only on one side on the upper half of the case, can't figure out why. Half moon clips are fully seated against the cylinder, ammo is Blazer FMJ. My current assumption is that the chambers are a little on the loose side, but in that case shouldn't the brass be deforming in a more uniform way with a full 360 degree bulge? Either way if it's deforming brass like this and it's fine, oh well. I just don't want it to explode on me

I struggled to hit paper at 20 feet when I first started shooting a 9mm compact without any other pistol experience. Now I'm putting in 5 inch groups at 75 feet

Shooting a handgun is actually very hard but it is very rewarding to learn how to shoot properly

It also makes watching movies and TV very annoying since how garbage actors are at shooting

Xzibits a through f
a, ca. 1996, deep and yellow
b, ca. 2004, extremely shallow and yellow
c, ca. 2011, average depth and gray/black
m, ca. 2016, average depth and white
e, ca. 2017, average depth and yellow
f, ca. 2021, shallow and extremely white

I see no pattern. It must be to do with surface treatments and how the lasers interact with them. For instance when I had one of my SBRs engraved they couldn't get any depth at all. They ran the laser 8 times with the same program and it was just reflected off the steel. Those engravings are mirror polished letters with zero depth

That Walther has a tennifer finish, same as Glock used to use before they cucked to environMENTALists its pretty much as good as a single finish gets. The newer one is a more standard nitride finish

idk something about environmental impact due to harsh chemicals. Germany has been falling over itself to cuck for 80 years, finding more and more retarded ways to performatively self-castrate
e.g.
https://www.heckler-koch.com/en/Responsibility/Environmental%20Protection/ESG%20Management

Walther also used to manufacture their own tritium capsules which goes hard. Until 2011 anyway

many vortex defenders were released with loose connectors where the flat battery goes, so it'll some times just randomly die due to poor connection.

I wish I could have fun with rifles like I used to, but the ammo costs are ridiculous now and they're so easy that it's hardly rewarding to hit the target. I still don't get that 2010s shit where everyone was hosing down targets with a semi auto rifle at <25 yards.
>>
>>65341361
Rifles are the bicycles of guns. Inc eyou learn how to shoot one you never really forget. Add in that all rifles are just AR variations and you can pick up and shoot all of them well now. Only shotguns and handguns can provide a challenge

I didn't keep the target paper. But it felt like the bullets didn't once go to where I was aiming, I thought I had the sights lined up but I don't know what went wrong. Doesn't help I was a little shaky and didn't know if I was supposed to have both eyes opened or the non dominant eye closed or even the proper stance.

>>65341693

Don’t think of shooting to be a full body thing, you should be able to do it from left or right leg forward, them equal, leaning, etc

Isosceles is the most intuitive stance and also the best.

The IOS cut is basically impossible to do for most machinists, the dovetail's angle is so fucking fine and its in a trapezoid shape. They are probably using very custom jigs and an EDM to get them all exactly the same. Genuinely incredible optic cut but not feasible at all for conversions.

Atlas is probably the best for that reason alone. Honestly I don't know why 2011 people are so afraid of frame mounted optics, there's already an incredible ecosystem of parts to do that.
>>
>>65341845
Does it have a particularly good trigger? Some interviews with marketing guys claimed it had Shadow internals but others claim it's more or less a regular 75 with a short rail, which is still a good thing of course.
>>
>>65341702
Thanks man I'll watch more videos. I guess I need to start dry fire practicing too
>>
>been dry firing at home to practice both eyes open shooting
>feels super easy, focus on the target across the room, sights are obvious and there's no double vision
>go to the range today
>trying to look down sights with both eyes open is a nightmare, feels like there's 3 sets of sights, can't get the picture clearly
Is this just a lighting issue? Is it because I was wearing eyepro? Has anyone run into this before.
>>
>>65341915
I don't understand how people struggle with this. I mean, quite literally, it has been an intuitive natural way to shoot since I picked up a gun.
>>
>>65341878
A few high end shops are now offering IOS cut and also dual hammer is now doing conversion cuts for it. They even can cut a CZ75 for it
>>
>>65341903
I think its fine, nothing super crazy (but I'm used to Berettas that I have polished up and Walthers). I have never shot a Shadow, so I can't compare it to that, but from what my understanding is as well, it has Shadow internals and no firing pin block. It does have a forged and milled frame like the original short rail, not cast like the rest of the 75s. I'll probably get a shoulder holster and carry it a little in the winter.

>>65341915
I can't do it easily either. When I try I can feel my eyes desynchronizing and going different directions trying to stabilize it. But that's one of the reasons dots are superior
>>
>>65341915
You know what your eye dominance is, right? If I try indexing with my non dom eye I get all sorts of fucked up. But like Burt said, dot makes it a whole lot easier
>>
>>65341915
Most likely the target is further away than the wall at home. There may also be the issue with difference between how the sights and target are illuminated. Get the dot.
>>
>>65341915
Turn the gun around and look down the sights from the front so you are looking straight at the front sight, then pull the trigger.
>>
>>65341915
>>65341953
>trying to look down sights
Focus on the target, not the sights. You can see the sights align without actually focusing on them. Just trust me bro.
>>
>>65341973
Doesn't work that way for everyone, sorry. One eye or another takes over dominance and throws the other eye into chaos. It's also a nightmare with the extremely shallow depth of field my glasses force on me in exchange for obviating ligmatism

You're lucky.
>>
>>65342003
Can you try occluding the sight on your optic next time? Both eyes are supposed to be open, and your eyes work to superimpose the dot onto the target, regardless if you see the target or not.
>>
>>65342019
That's a different thing. If it's occluded there's nothing to focus on and it's relatively easy for my brain to switch over to the other eye, even the non-dominant eye. If there's visual clutter, not so. Both eyes independently try to focus on things and binocular tracking steals focus from the other, and the miscommunication makes them both wig out. This doesn't happen with a dot because you're just looking at the target not your hands, everything exactly on the same plane with the same light transmission. Doing that with irons and shallow depth of field glasses = nothing but blur at hand-distance. No sights, nothing to aim with, or at least nothing clear, crisp and distinct. So my eyes go hunting for data and the trouble starts. It's made much worse by front sight focusing with both eyes open, the cross-eye exacerbates the effect and then the target is blurry and indistinct

I've tried without glasses and it's significantly easier, still not intuitive or easy, but not difficult. But then everything is btfo from ligmatism so that's not a good trade
>>
>>65341973
I think the issue is the front sight keeps drawing my left eye focus, which really fucks me up. I need to keep them both focused on the target but it's pretty hard to force your eyes to do that.
>>
>>65342053
You're overthinking it. when you shoot you should be focusing on the target not the sights. Sights are there as like a cross reference. And realistically with a handgun if God forbid you ever NEED to shoot it, it's gonna be a dude like 6-12 yards away where you can just point and click without using them, assuming you've shot enough rounds on the weapon to have a feel for where it's going to hit
>>
>>65342071
It happens whether I think about it or not anon

>>
>>65342071
>You're overthinking it.
This. I like shooting because it's one of the few times I can turn my brain off.
>>
>>65342087
You're gonna be good. The fact that you are actively trying to improve and learn to aim... you're already in the top 10 percent of shooters.
Most "threats" are African Americans with stolen guns who don't even use the sights and shoot sideways. They've never shot a 2 liter of red soda like Harrel because EBT doesn't allow them to buy soda.
Keep practicing. Go to your range or the woods and pop off 100 rounds
>>
>>65342146
>EBT doesn't allow them to buy soda.
If that's the case then why are ebt people always so damn fat?
