is this bullet just a meme?
is there any reason to use this instead of 5.56 or 6.8?
>>
>>65376691
It's decent for quiet hunting with the right projectiles
>>
>>65376691

A meme round for meme people. It's designed to appeal to people who think they're above owning a Draco but are really the other side of the same coin
>>
It's really only cool because it uses common diameter projectiles which is why handloaders loved it first (300 Whisper) before the tactifags got a hold of it. If you don't handload I would avoid.

It has two main competitors, 338 ARC that has limited bullet support (with not a single plated bullet available), and 350 Legend that has too slow of a twist and uses handgun bullets, and should've been 358 legend using rifle bullets.

It doesn't make sense in a full size rifle but in a suppressed 8" gun it's neat.

It reliably kills anything on the North American continent that isn't bear, bison, or cervid.

>>65376691
Its point is a heavier and/or subsonic bullet while still:
- maintaining semi-compatibility with an AR-15. This second point is important and part of the point.
>>
>>65376759
>semi-compatibility with AR-15
>so similar you can chamber and blow up your face if you mistakenly grab the wrong mag
>>
Sucks at piercing rifle armor
>>
>>65376691
Good for shooting home invaders at short distances. Not good for targets with body armor. If there are nogs regularly breaking into homes and coming prepared with plate carriers, then you should probably just move.
>>
>>65376691
Yes, just buy 7.62x39
>>
>>65376829
Plates are now mainstream gear (they're a huge topic on all but the fuddiest forums) and you can't run from the hood indefinitely.
Shoot them in the dick.

As with anything firearms related, just don't be a retard and you'll be fine.
>>
>>65376691
It's a meme. Conceptually a good idea but it was made to be compatable with AR's so they made all the compromises that entails for market appeal

I thought it over penetrated like a mother fucker? I have mine stored for this reason, I had it as my bedside gun and ended up getting a stribog in 9 and suppressing that one too as my bedside gun.
>>
>>65376691
It's just 7.62x39mm reinvented. Complete meme.

5.56 stays winning.

45acp for subs honestly
>>
Genuinely better and more reliable as a suppressed subsonic loading in a full auto platform than the AR9 which can be a legit bitch to get running reliably cyclic with subs, buffers, different flavored mags, BCGs, springs....you get the idea.

Subsonic in full auto only, and that's about it.

.300 BLK is best understood as a cartridge optimized for the 7-10" barrel regime, not as a replacement for either 5.56 or 7.62×39. Velocity loss from 16" to 9" is comparatively modest because the cartridge uses fast-burning powders and reaches near-complete acceleration early in the bore. By comparison, 5.56 benefits substantially from additional barrel length, making it more dependent on 14.5-20" barrels to realize its full ballistic potential. A typical 62gr M855 produces ~1,300 ft-lb from a 20", ~1,200 from a 16", and ~900-1,000 from a 10.3". A 123gr 7.62×39 delivers roughly 1,500 ft-lb from a 16" AK and remains around 1,250-1,350 ft-lb from 9-10". Supersonic .300 BLK (110-125gr) generates ~1,350-1,450 ft-lb from 16", ~1,250-1,350 from 9", and still approaches 1,100 ft-lb from 7-8", illustrating how little it gives up in the barrel lengths it was designed around.

The other defining characteristic is dual-regime operation. Supersonic loads provide conventional intermediate-rifle external ballistics, while 220gr subsonics at ~1,000-1,050 fps produce ~500-540 ft-lb of muzzle energy. Newer heavy offerings such as 238gr and 242gr projectiles remain in the same energy envelope (~520-580 ft-lb depending on velocity) but increase sectional density and momentum while maintaining subsonic velocity. No other mainstream AR cartridge transitions between ~1,300 ft-lb supersonic performance and ~550 ft-lb subsonic performance with nothing more than an ammunition change. That flexibility, combined with short-barrel efficiency and standard AR-15 magazines and bolts, is the primary engineering advantage of .300 BLK—not higher peak energy or longer effective range than competing intermediate cartridges.

Through drywall yes, but 9mm also overpenetrates more than 5.56 and is extremely unpersuasive against armor.

.300blk is better than 9mm but worse than 5.56 versus armor. Best it can do without specialty ammo is busting all soft armor. Meanwhile 5.56 can beat Level III plates with the correct loads, M855A1 beats a lot of basic Level III ceramics, and specialty AP above M995 can clear Level IV / ESAPI.

Beating anything but level IV and IIIA is a meme. Level IV and level IIIA are orders of magnitude, likely multiple, more common and likely to be faced than pure level III or similar special threat rated plate CONUS.
>>
>>65379367
>>65379441
You guys really seeing crackheads breaking into homes with level IVs? That sounds wild and not at all what I'm seeing around me.
>>
>>65378471
AR9s are trash. There's so many dedicated 9mm PCC/Submachine guns out there. But people insist on the AR9 for some reason.

B&T APC9 or SPC9
H&k MP5 clones
JP5 roller delayed

But bubbas want to continue using the inferior AR9

Hideous waste of meat and hide. Judging by your hand, you are well fed, and so killed a magnificent animal completely needlessly in a very disrespectful fashion. This is not enlightened behavior, and you will pay a heavy price for your bloodlust.
>>
>>65379479
And even if crackheads were breaking into homes with plates, everyone nowadays can afford cheap plates good enough to stop any 5.56 round that we are likely to own. Very few people, if anyone here, owns hundreds or thousands of AP 5.56 rounds to train and fuck with

High flesh damage still wins

You're 10-100x more likely to see a crackhead with Level IV plates than you are to see said crackhead with level III or some other special threat rated plate.
Crackhead and nog/ghetto kit/gear is generally downstream of genuine 2A/LARP community gear, either because it is stolen in the case of crackheads, or it just trickles down in the case of ghetto/nog

All it takes is a quick browse on forums, Tacswap, reddit, here etc to see quite easily that level IIIA and level IV are considered, purchased, and "run" 10-100x more often than level III or special threat plates.

The tripfag is correct. Level IV is FAR cheaper than IIIs or SRTs, especially used.

Defeating special threat plates is a meme, even more so in the context of what is already a niche discussion.
The fact that 300blk subs defeat level IIIA is kinda cool IMO since IIIA is very common (police surplus vests etc etc) and subsonic rounds that defeat IIIA actually are not common (9mm etc)
>>
>>65376691
It's the alternative to a shotgun for home defense that you can simply buy a complete upper set for a rifle you already own.

But its been memed into muh subsonic suppressor for the great SHTF that will never happen
>>

>The fact that 300blk subs defeat level IIIA is kinda cool IMO
This is starting to not be the case with panels from guys like Omniprotex, just saying.
>>
>>65380508
It is not a meme. Suppressed 220 monolithics in a properly gassed full auto are scary quiet. You will not hear the beta c-drum filled with them magdumping at you from 100yds away. "Le boog that will never happen" has nothing to do with giving yourself the capability to do spoopy criminal-adjacent shit at night while looking like a homeless crackhead at the drop of hat because you need to.

Sounds more like they're talking about the cops.
>>
>>65384705
Is that why they're talking about them affording second hand market shit? Because I don't think they are and they genuinely believe burglars are breaking in with ceramics. If it's cops then they don't have to worry about that either considering a swat team will fold any /k/ cum cookie eater.

Sometimes the cops blow all their money on new patrol cars
>>

its just 7.62x39 for standard AR mags
