It's as close to 100% safe as you can get carrying chambered, you get a hammer fired SA trigger most of the time, and the only knock against it is that it takes extra time to learn.>>65381139Getting to ignore magazines entirely is pretty nice benefit for revolvers. It's less shit to buy, store, and pack to the range every time, and only half of my lifetime of shooting has been at a real range with benches. If you're out in a field or on the side of a mountain, it's pretty sweet to go out with just a holstered gun, one pocket full of ammo, and the other for your empty brass.

Bit of a blogpost but whatever. I'm a nofuns who got a Glock 19 a couple weeks back I want to improve as much as I can early and I'm trying to make sure I get trigger pull right early cause I hear horror stories about people having to unlearn a bunch of bad habits. My problem is I see so many different opinions on it. Ben Stoeger teaches to do a full press each time after the trigger breaks and to NEVER prep a trigger just one motion stacking pressure as you goJJ Racaza teaches to release the trigger fully after the trigger breaks but quickly prep and get back on the wall to then break the next shot. And seemingly many others on both camps.Personally my observation is prepping the trigger feels a lot easier for me to do and maybe the difference for Ben is that he's using tricked out competition guns with 2-3 lbs (?) triggers that make it a lot easier to do the full rolling break style pull compared to my 5.5-6lbs stock glock. Though I have spent a couple days trying out the no prep full press style and have made progress on getting that down to approaching an acceptable level where I can do a relatively smooth pull without getting snagged on that heavier wall. Not as good as I shoot prepping though. So I'm at a bit of a crossroads here on which to pick and stick with and I'm wondering what you guys recommend?
They don't exactly fall under the handgun category but there's nowhere else to ask, how are TP9s now? I know they sucked some months/years ago but have there been any recent improvements?
>>65381752Prepping the trigger seems like a ND waiting to happen, my opinion is that you don’t want to make your “standard” trigger pull to be a fine movement. Just pull the trigger straight back (important to visualize the trigger itself going straight back). Ben obviously uses a few different Glock trigger kits, I think Apex is his usual go to but not 2-3 pounds, more like 4.5. JJ Raza I’m pretty sure shoots Beretta 92s so he has a nicer trigger than a Glock. Try doing that stacking pressure slowly, then slowly increasing the speed you do it until you’re pulling it as fast as you can without disturbing the sights.
>>65381752>I'm wondering what you guys recommend? Are you a tier 1 operator specials CIA seal, or just a regular person learning to shoot? Just pull the trigger straight back and release it fully. No prepping or whatever you call it, you are going to shoot your dick off by accident. Maybe after a few thousand rounds of safe handling you can release the trigger until it resets and hold it there for a quick follow up if you are in some life and death gun battle. You can shoot very fast pulling the trigger all they way in and letting all the way out.
>>65381765Tp9 canik or tp9 b&t? B&T USA was scamming folks including their brothers across the pond so it poisoned the well reputation wise. Swiss B&T just got control again so hopefully quality will return, but the TP9 was never a gun known for it's rock solid reliability at the best of times. Here is a very in depth interview on the subject with the CEO. https://youtu.be/Q9qcV59PFzg?si=RDfmCHo-ozhvuHp5For the canik tp9 they're just not a good enough budget option for the same price as whatever other ~$400 option you prefer given the rampant QC issues. Here is some variety of canik I shot, this one didn't jam but I didn't like the ergos or overall feel of the gun from grip texture to trigger.
>>65381601Word, thanks Burt. Probably just get some form of 507 comp for it whenever I buy one or the defender XL you seem to like for the price point. >>65381531>>65381538Lol thank y'all I think the series is neat
>>65381752don't overthink itdid you own airsoft guns as a kid?for every round downrange, you should be doing at least five dry-fires if you're a new gun ownerthat alone will make you better than a lot of peopledon't prep the trigger because that's a bad habit in itself, you shouldn't be applying pressure to the trigger until you're on target and firing. prepping the trigger feels better because you have no idea where the break is because you don't have enough trigger time.
>>65381801Agreed. I loved the green enough to buy 3 frames in it lol. They didn't put enough peanut butter in the FDE blend imo, it's more of a "sand" which is fine i guess. I'm not a fan of the psa hinged trigger and they're a bitch to work on with those proprietary pins, but every one of them that I've put together has gone bang every time I pulled the boom switch and that's certainly positive. With the exception of the micro. The micros are pieces of shit lol

>>65381847>Apx Count itDude the micros are terrible. I built one out earlier this year and was stoked about it. First range trip it was a stovepipe or ftf, or fte every round for three mags straight. I put it on the workbench and decided to yolo and get the best trigger i could for it. Bought a tactical pontoon trigger which cost more than the rest of the gun parts combined. Changed springs and extractor. Took it back to the range and that bitch continued to ftf. Ended up trading the project off for a bunch of ammo and some other components. Pic related

>>65381881Man that's so sad, you really seemed to have wanted to love that gun and it looks beautiful, shame they let you down. Love the slide serrations.>>65381887Given your limitations it's a fine choice but be aware springfield doesn't have the best QC so make sure you shoot it a bunch to see if your gun has problems outside of just something a 30 second extractor tuning could solve. >>65382908Just get one of their 578 pro fit holsters, the standard fits an insane number of guns
>>65381907Don't use any Loctite. Follow the instructions.
>>65382930The instructions say to use thread locker and even include a picture of glue.
>>65382945Then use the thread locker they provide in the manner they suggest. Or none, I don't use any unless a screw keeps backing out which is rareSomeone told you to use red Loctite. Don't do that.
>>65382956There was none provided. Honestly, I was thinking about using purple.
>>65381907The optic screws usually come with some dry threadlocker on them, so the first time I always just torque it with a fat wrench to what the instruction manual says. If I ever have to take it off or it comes loose I soak the screws and screw holes in acetone, scrub the threadlocker off, then use blue loctite 243 (or whatever blue loctite is included) and take like 2-3 inch lbs off the torque. I've done a lot of rmsc footprint optics that way with no problem.
>>65382964just use blue and witness mark it using a paint pen
>>65382956Is red impossible to get off or something?
>>65382964>thinking about using purpleI too have seen that recommended for tiny fasteners like those for pistol optic mounts
>>65382972if you ever need to get the optic off (which is more common than you think), you will strip the living shit out of the little shitty 0.6x8 3mm hex bolt or whatever the fuck is provided before ever getting it off
>>65382972Red 272 is supposed to be permanent and if applied properly >Removing Loctite 272 requires localized heating and high torque because it is a high-strength, permanent threadlocker. For small fasteners, strong hand tools may suffice, but larger bolts typically need to be heated to approximately 250°C (482°F) to soften the adhesive before disassembly. on fine threads like 6-32 or 4-40 it may not bond permanently but otherwise you'd need to use a soldering iron to heat up the screws to even try to remove it. Don't listen to Burt, use vibratite VC-3 which is an anti vibration thread locker better than blue 242/243 for optic screws.
>>65382964Don't need my permission, I'm just interjecting that it's usually an unnecessary complication when proper torque is applied. Purple is the least committal>>65382972Near as

>>65383235Because it's such a light caliber that it allows for some design variation that full power pistol cartridges don't. So naturally you end up with some funky cool ones purely due to variation. There's also a ton of 22s that kinda look like shit IMO, like the Ruger MK IV
>>65383226P30 and USP are really the go tos, HK45 and Mk 23 are just a USP but gayer and more expensive, respectively. I would probably just go by caliber, if you want a 9 get the P30, and if you want a 40 or 45 get the USP

Conventional wisdom is that a military surplus store would not sell much of anything useful to we greymen since camouflage on our attire or kit would draw attention. Also, it looks like that's supposed to be a Lahti-39 antimateriel rifle hung up above the patch display but I imagine it's mock up because it would be foolish to have a Destructive Device (rifled bores wider than 12.7mm are subject to the National Firearms Act) for nothing more than decoration near the entrance of a store with a documented history of being stolen from.

Off topic trolling
>>65381752>My problem is I see so many different opinions on it.>Ben Stoeger teaches to do a full press each time after the trigger breaks and to NEVER prep a trigger just one motion stacking pressure as you go>JJ Racaza teaches to release the trigger fully after the trigger breaks but quickly prep and get back on the wall to then break the next shot.>And seemingly many others on both camps.the goal is to pull the trigger without moving the gun.thats it.if you can do that it doesnt matter how you did it. you will hit whatever the sights were pointed at.you try a bunch of methods and whatever moves the least is what you stick with.just cause you found the perfect method with 1 gun doesnt mean its going to transfer over to the next just cause of handsize and ergonomics. you will need to mak minor changes say going from a 1911 to a berreta. unless its a glock learn how to shoot 1 glock correctly you can shoot every glock regardless of caliber.
Should I just remove the overtravel screw in my 1911 trigger, shit seems like a meme
>>65383463>>65383463Depends, if you have over travel it’ll make your trigger feel worse. You can use a few different triggers that have fixed over travel stops that you just file down with a file, the installation takes a while to fit it right but once fit it will never need readjusting or theoretically back out far enough to prevent the trigger from being pulled. Harrison Design and 10-8 performance make triggers with fixed stops. Delta Force staked the over travel screws in place. You can also red loctite it in place and then file it down to fit which is pretty sure how it is on 10-8 and HD triggers. There is no known occurrences of the over travel screws backing out preventing the gun from being fired on a 1911 but it has happened to the S&W model 15 and other revolvers with over travel screws.

>>65383226Do you want a gun hk makes or do you want an hk?
Someone has to say the truth:SA revolvers are better than DA revolvers>WhySA are more durable, more accurate at longer distances, lighter trigger pull, less recoil feeling, and if you know how to fan the hammer like a good wild west gunslinger, you can empty dump the entire wheel of guaranteed-death-anywhere-you-aim-per-bullet in a speed comparable to a semi (and maybe even faster if you get to be that legendary). Anything a DA can do better than a SA, which is mainly quick shooting and faster reload, a semiauto can do better. Even back in the day, people who knew their shit vastly preferred SAs over DAs.If you want to pussy out and be stubborn about revolvers being comparable to semiautos in the modern era, you get a DA. If you really believe you're as good as you think you are with a handgun, you get a SA (but always get a semiauto too if you can, for obvious reasons)

>>65383846They weren’t the hottest game around anymore with souped up berettas becoming mainstream + the berettas have more quality of life like being able to have a decocker only set up without a worse trigger
>>65383846because cz fans are all poorfags and hipsters.it was good when a 75 was 300-400 dollars and a glock/berreta was 500-600.now a 75 is more than a glock.theres a bunch of minor shit you are willing to forgive or just accept on a cheap budget gun.you raise the price bracket and standards go up. now all the minor shit that dosent exist on contemporaries like the roll pin issue, trs breaks, general rust and mid painted on finish. are not ok.when it was hundreds cheaper it was okay ehe you can fix that shit on your own for a few bucks.its not acceptable when your gun costs more and is worse. and the other options dont have those problems at all. nobody is complaining glock rollpins lock up the gun.(im aware glock doesnt have any rollpins)
>>65383463Okay well it's definitely not. An overtravel stop is part of what makes a great trigger phenomenal. But its usefulness is subjective, based both on the gun and the user. An overtravel set screw wouldn't do crap for a factory Glock. Or for someone who has gorrilla follow through. It's also actually detrimental the higher the trigger's pull weight, your straining muscles cause more movement when the shot breaks instead of lessening it like it does with a light triggerAll that aside I'm willing to bet that if you never adjusted the set screw from the factory, it was never doing anything in the first place so yeah you wouldn't notice a difference backing it off. Almost every factory overtravel stop I've come across has not been adjusted properly

>>65383906burp you put that trigger upside down...
>>65383846A bunch of stuff happened kind of all at once. Canada needed an official gun manufacturer to destroy all the handguns they seized and when no one else would do it preventing Canada from implementing their system CZ volunteered themselves. A lot of folks figured if they'll do it there they'll do it here. The guns prices went up, at $899 the shadow 2 was a steal, for $1200 the shadow 2 is spitting close to the $1450 kimber 2k11 or sig x5 or whatever other race gun which means it's flaws of dry fire breaking pins and certain parts needing replaced at lower round counts than alternatives aren't as easy to overlook. The cz 75 is about $650ish now days which is still competitive, but most people will upgrade it to allow dry fire and make the trigger better which puts it up by $700 guns which again don't have these problems out of the box. Besides the politics and pricing the CZ Nocturn was a dud. The trigger isn't as good as the CZ P10c or CZ 75 and iirc it had some qc hiccups at launch which held it back. It just all kinda lumped together and now folks often forget they exist when they reccomend folks pistols which further holds it back. For $50 cheaper than even the budget option /hg/ darling RXM the CZ P10c is still a hell of a deal.

DAs and semiautos are easier to know about than SAs no doubt, so for most people that don't spend time practising much, those two are better to use than a SA, and inside that category, a semiauto should always be preferred over a DA because it vastly outperforms it at what it doesIf you like revolvers, but aren't thinking about practising with a SA, then don't bother with them

Should I focus on getting good with the one gun I do have before buying another? Keep things consistent before adding other variables.
>>65384189>forced corpo posted memeSILENCE BRAND!FOR THIS INFRACTION I WILL NEVER, EVER PURCHASE YOUR PRODUCTS!
>>65384235That depends, do you really want another gun? As much as some people here will insist that you must spend all your money on ammo and training, it's a hobby, if you want more guns go for it. I have a dozen and half of them are wildly impractical. Is it optimal for training? No. Do you need perfectly optimized training? Almost certainly no. It's not going to ruin your skills or set you back or anything.
I want the flagship pistol for every manufacturer. Which is glock’s though?
>>65384235Depends, if you’re either in this hobby for shooting or for the guns themselves. Shooting different guns, guns that are particularly easier or harder to shoot will be good for your training in my opinion. I don’t think you can build a good of technique with just shooting 9mm, I think you should shoot heavier calibers to stress your grip. - don’t think about this as a noobie though, it’s something to think about way later.I think a cheaper gun to shoot would make a lot of sense like a 22 lr or a 9mm
>>65384235Depends what your gun is and what the new gun would be. If it's cool then I see no problem getting a new gun.
>>65380463I’m kinda bigun curious myself. Sometimes I hold my semi in my hands and think “yeah, I could really like this. Maybe shoot a few otters.”But then other times I feel the sweet curves of the revolver and think “oh yeah.. that’s pretty nice. The way it just fits in my hand; I could shoot a few otters with this.”It’s confusing anons.

I got an HK CC9 for my wife. She’s got small hands so its hard to find a gun for her but they make my cock look huge so its ok

>>65384307Use words, I don’t speak tranimeShe’s currently carrying an og shield 9 so this is a good upgrade. I’d prefer her to be off strikerslop completely but despite my efforts kitten’s hands are just too small to handle daddy’s da/sa guns

I know the grip on the P-10 series is polarizing but I actually like the grip it really feels like digs into my hands and locks it in to place the problem is the region I highlighted in pic rel its like the texture of a laminated school desk my support hand struggles to not slip during doubles/splits.Any recommended skate/grip tape I can DIY cut out and apply to this spot? Or any other solution I'm not thinking of. Thanks in advance : )
>>65384586That's a problem on a lot of pistols and I'm baffled why they just keep doing it. Anybody who takes handgun shooting seriously knows a good chunk of your recoil control comes from that exact area that most manufacturers intentionally leave smoovAnyway, unless you're gonna permanently glue silly cone car abide to your gun or permanently stipple it, appliques are the only option. You can go to a skate shop and get 20 guns worth of grip tape for like $14, in a ton of colorsDON'T USE YOUR MOM'S GOOD SCISSORS!

>>65384142>You from the Detroit area?I've worked a couple contracts over there, sayed on Joy Road by Rogue Park last time around and shot with a /hg/ anon from Detroit at Recoil Firearms which was fairly fuddy compared to my favorites Midwest Shooting Center and Center Mass but we had a good time. I'm in Pennsylvania for this next contract though.
>>65382972>Is red impossible to get off or something?See pic. If you use Red you are could snap a small screw trying to remove it. The different colors are for different size fasteners, sorta. For Loctite to work correctly the threads need to be totally degreased. The cleaner they are the better it works. Don't underestimate properly applied Purple for small screws. A small amount of Loctite goes onto the screw threads, assemble, torque, allow for cure time (overnight).
>>65384625>That's a problem on a lot of pistols and I'm baffled why they just keep doing itRecoil control isnt everything.Being able to pull the gun out of a holster/get a grip on it without being annoying is more important. Do i want my thumb to slide into place nicely? Or do i want it to hit sandpaper and not go where i want?

>>65383754I disagree with you. The reason why revolvers of any kind have bad prep is because they are a gun that need proper discipline to get a hold of. Of course, you only need a few hours with a semiauto and you're good to go. Most people are never going to handle an auto pistol, or god forbid, the greater leagues such as SMGs, shotguns, or ARs. Most people don't even practise, especially beat cops, they just mag dump and pray for the best, even despite semiautos aren't exactly known for accuracy by design. Sure the reason why semiautos are so used is that in a few hours yo learn how to shoot it at least good enough for a self defense situaton, the technology alone puts them that far, and of course if you are planning to kill a lot of people.. that you know that wont shoot back becuase they lack a gun. There are many reasons why revolvers, despite being obsoletish, are still fabricated to this day, instead of just abandoned like proper semiauto models like the FN 1900, the Mauser, the Luger, and what else. At the end of the day, skill beats everything, and a skilled shooter with a DA revolver, or a SA, doesn't need more ammo to hit their target. Emphasis on skilled shooter, not any fucker who believes himself to be John Waynen>B-but what about if I'm fighting more than one peopleIf those people are armed as well, then you're dead either way, unless you're one of the finest using your weapon. If you know you are going to fight a big group of people, a handgun is always a bad choice, which is why powerful gang members get SMGs for their business.
