NFA STATES WHAT ARE YOU GETTING FIRST A SHORT DOUBLE BARREL OR SOME BREACHER TYPE SHORT BARREL?

I’m thinking about picking up a 590 Mariner. Would I be better off just picking up a standard 590? I think the Mariner looks absolutely beautiful, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the extra money.
>>
>>65422889
Do you live in the ocean?
You can let a mav 88 rust to nothing 3 times for the price of a mariner
And it takes years to wreck an 88 with surface rust.
>>
>>65422919
>Do you live in the ocean? No, I just like stainless, and this is the closest I can get with a mossy.
But if it’s not worth it, I’d consider getting a standard 590. I have a shockwave, but seeing as I’m in one of the states that still require a form or whatever, I cannot SBS it. Plus I feel like a normal size shotgun would be more useful.
>>
>>65422933
>I just like stainless,
its not
its a paintjob
if your okay with that get it
you can pay extra for the color you want. nothings wrong with the gun its fine just pay more money for a color you like
>>
>>65422889
The receiver is aluminum, doesnt rust
Smoothbore, so barrel pitting doesn't actually matter
The navy and shit have 30 year old salty af m500s, and they work just fine
>>
>>65423925
>>65424007
So basically the Mariner finish isn’t worth the price difference? Would a standard 590 hold up even if you took it out in the rain and stuff?
Oh yeah- and what are the actual advantages of my 590 shockwave if I ever did an SBS?

I've read that the 590 mariner's finish is ass, if you want a mariner worth a damn your only real choice is the 870. Still upset that I hesitated on an 870 police mariner I saw a couple months ago at the local police supply shop, those are so hard to find at a decent price these days.

Thanks for the input. I kind of want a general use shotgun. Honestly I might just fill out a NFA thing (I live in one of the states not included in the recent change. Georgia). If I decide to keep the memewave I mean. I’m just not sure how much more velocity, and fps I could get out of a 20” barrel as opposed to the shockwave’s 14”. Or if that would affect in any way how close my shot would stay together.

Real fun. I built it from scratch, started with one spring and kept adding pieces from there. It's a straight pull, combined the receiver for a semi with the barrel from a pump, has no gas system. Can fire it as fast as a pump with practice. 4+1+1 capacity.

I can buy *some*, but I can't take it to any range, nor carry (let alone shoot) it outdoors. Lead is banned near "wetlands" and that includes pretty much any body of water, natural or otherwise (and I live in rain country).
>>
>>65439064
ahh that thing. did some countries actually implement it in legislation? most have exemptions for shooting ranges(because the lead gets collected and lead levels are monitored) and such

Steel buckshot is very rare probably because it doesnt work. And even those heavy steel waterfowl loads kinda suck for anything that isnt a bird. So for defensive load you're not going to shoot much after testing it I'd go with expanding slugs.

None have caught on for the most part. They're either less reliable, more expensive, or truly meant for auto rather than semi auto. Add on the mags have to be xbox huge and not hold that much more, and it's just meh.

The only place you'll see mag feds get some serious use is in 3 gun, and that's only by the dudes who are willing to compete in open. I've seen a couple guys with Veprs modified by Dissident and a Gen 12 at my local 3 gun.
I have a vepr myself but I don't think I'm willing to invest as much if not more than I paid for the gun itself to get it up to speed like that so I just kinda have it as a novelty. My 1301 is far less picky with ammo (mag feds need shells with solid hulls like winchester AA or federal action shotgun to feed birdshot/target ammo reliably) and doesn't need obnoxiously huge and expensive mags.

What "up to speed" changes do you think a Vepr would require?

>What "up to speed" changes do you think a Vepr would require?
An ALG trigger would probably be the biggest upgrade and that's a couple hundred bucks right there. A new handguard would be an ergonomic improvement since the factory one is a slippery brick with grooves in it. A proper AR stock would be great for getting an actual cheek weld and some adjustability but unfortunately mine's a fixed stock so it requires precise drilling of the rear trunnion to change it to a stock adapter so that's an extra pain in the ass + more cost. One of those rear sight rail replacements could be cool for putting my optic on but I don't really have much of a problem with mine way in the back, that's more of a "maybe nice to have" I guess.
>Molots don't need tuning. Neither do Pufguns.
Molots are retardedly expensive especially 10 rounders. Pufguns are fine, I have two of them. But the real meta play is the SGM coupler kits since that's basically no reloading on any stage and they're more reliable than the drum (mine is a piece of shit that doesn't work if it's more than half full) but that's also almost another couple hundred bucks.
It's a cool gun in stock configuration and I'm certainly not even good enough to push it to its limits, but since you asked, if I were to go all in on race gun shit and chase course times those are what I'd do to it as far as qol upgrades go.
Webm related I'm really glad I brought my 1301 as backup because that was only the second time I'd even shot my vepr, the first was the day before that where I just zeroed my optic with some slugs and then did some breaking in magdumping cheap spicy buckshot through it which it handled perfectly but I wasn't aware it would have feeding problems with plain ass winchester white box birdshot lol. That's where those other two guys I mentioned recommended federal action and then another friend I told about it afterwards said he had the same problem with his saiga and winchester AA is what worked for him.

My pump shotgun has front and back movement in the forend and bolt when it is locked, which is incredibly concerning (or is it not?).
So when it is locked I can jerk the pump handle back about half a centimeter and the locking lug visibly lowers a bit as well, although the gun seemingly remains locked.
Anyone else has this with their shotgun or are they "rock-solid"?
I've never fired mine and am afraid to do so because of said issue.

I was considering buying this model in the gray color:
TTI 3G Dracarys Gen-12 Shotgun: https://tarantacticalinnovations.com/tti-3g-dracarys-gen-12-shotgun/

And these magazines:
- GEN-12 5-round magazine: https://genesisarms.com/5rnd-magazine/
- GEN-12 15-round Drum Magazine: https://genesisarms.com/15rnd-drum-magazine/

>Why not an SBS?
I wanted to use it for whatever and after reading forever it seems an SBS isn't as good for that purpose.

They do have shorter models though, such as this one, which if I did change my mind and buy it, then I would get the gray color with the Adaptive Tactical EX Performance Stock:
TTI Dracarys Gen-12 7" Shotgun: https://tarantacticalinnovations.com/tti-dracarys-gen-12-7-shotgun/

They have other options on their website, but most of them I didn't like:
https://genesisarms.com/shop-all/firearms/

I was going to put a suppressor on it too, which was going to be the CAT Coin Toss whenever it is released, and if it turned out to be good (if it actually worked to suppress a 12 gauge shotgun really well).

For the optic I wanted to use an Aimpoint CompM4s, but they told me they only recommended the EOTECH EXPS3-1, even though I see tons using the Aimpoint CompM4s, Aimpoint Micro T-2, and other optics, etc. I am not sure what mount to use though (I noticed the shorter TTI one uses a Reptilia mount for the Aimpoint Micro T-2).

I hear they're good, but for an all around use shotgun I don't know, which is why I never bothered, and I just currently use my old Remington 870 if I need a shotgun.

$129, but sure. I've never felt the need for it personally and I have a couple AKTs sitting in a parts bin.

RPK wood will fit (with some minor fitting) $35 from Apex
$16 sheet of griptape, could also work.

Gross, but I get it.
Fixed tubular isn't ideal and I don't know how I'd "fix" it, if at all.
Mine folds and I really don't utilize it that much if I'm being honest. Shotgun is fine.
>One of those rear sight rail replacements could be cool
Whatever works for you.
>Molots are retardedly expensive especially 10 rounders
$150 is steep, but they've been banned for almost a decade and they've only fluctuated up 20%. In comparison, other Russian mags have skyrocketed.
You only need one or 2. If nothing else they'll help in resale if you end up not liking the gun.
>the real meta play is the SGM coupler kits since that's basically no reloading on any stage
I don't do comps, so that's irrelevant to me. Those goofy 8ft long mags have been a thing long before SGM too. Kinda retarded but understandable in the instances of penalty for reloading or whatever rule it's meant to skirt, I guess.
>mine is a piece of shit that doesn't work if it's more than half full
I'm going to help you get that drum to work, because I know it can.
Mine's filled with 25oz of Federal slugs right now, so I know they are the "right length" of 2 3/4 shell.
Federal 00 buck won't, it jams in the feed tower.
There's apparently a fix of rounding off the transition from the drum into the feed tower.

shotcards or some kinda satchel or large pocket full of loose shells.
shot cards are ok if you are running them as a sidesaddle but it gets weird if you are holding multiple of them.

Bandoleer isnt for carrying shells to feed your shotgun, its for being able to carry extra shells to restock your carrier in a lull.

>>
>>65474258
Depends on your activity. If you're hunting, just carry them in your pocket or a bag. Various types of competitions will require different setups, of course, so there isn't really one right choice. For home defense, anything other than shotgun cards or some other sidesaddle shell holder is retarded. In the unlikely event that you are the victim of a home invasion, it is extremely unlikely that you will need to reload anyway. A chest rig or bandolier will just distract you and slow you down when you put it on.
For cool points, use one of those old-fashioned leather shell holders.

dont go nuts with the shotcards. 1 on the gun and maybe another in a pouch/pocket just to make shells easier to carry.
do not treat them like mags and think you need to fill out every mag pouch with shotcards.
the other thing is they degrade cause its elastic and velcro. you get a couple years of good use. a couple years of ehh its ok probably. then a decade later oh this is trash that wont hold a damn thing.

If it's only going to be used for LARPing purposes and durability doesn't matter, you can get a cheap one on ebay, such as https://www.ebay.com/itm/252471507653. Seconding this question.
I'm curious about hunting and I might want to give skeet or trap a try at some point down the line.
The only shotguns I own are tactical ones with 18" barrels. How much of a problem is that going to be?
I know I saw 24" barrels for Turknellis somewhere online somewhere, but I don't remember where.
Any suggestions for a decent cheap-ish semi auto for that? Preferably gas operated. Money isn't really an issue for me, but I don't want to drop $1,000+ to try something that I'm not sure if I going to like.
>>
>>65476972
>The only shotguns I own are tactical ones with 18" barrels. How much of a problem is that going to be?
if its causal use or i just wanna try trap/skeet just use what you have. you will miss more but if its your first time you were going to miss some shots anyways. you can still hit with an 18 its just harder.
after you felt if you like it or not then buy a new gun.
>>
>>65476972
>>65471326
I've done it on some of the easier/shorter range courses using a red dot just fine. The issue you may run into are some skeet/trap places having a barrel requirement. One really nice place over near KCMO is like a golf course, but for trap, requires 24" barrel minimum. So to solve that I bought a suppressor for my a300 UP so I can bring it next time.

Yes.

>Also use the cylinder choke so you don't fuck your gun.
In most cases this is absolute fuddlore. A Foster slug is designed to safely swage through even a full choke without any problems. Do you think all those old guys who hunted ducks and deer with the same fixed full choke barrel for decades blew up their shotguns? No, of course not. In fact, many people find that they actually get better groups shooting slugs through an improved cylinder or modified choke. Some slugs and sabot ammunition specifically tells you to only shoot that ammo through a rifled shotgun barrel, but most of the standard Foster slug ammo you see won't hurt a choked shotgun at all. It's why Foster slugs have that deep hollow base, so they'll swage easily through a choke as designed. Now, obviously (I hope) you don't want to shoot slugs through a turkey choke. But, the reality is that all large steel shot and large tungsten shot is markedly more dangerous to shoot through a full choke than slugs are unless the manufacturer specifically says otherwise.

Will shooting non toxic shot actually damage my old Remington 1100?
>>
>>65487425
With modern factory steel and tungsten loads, it would be generally safe EXCEPT if you have a full choked or extra full choked barrel AND you're shooting steel shot size BB or larger, or larger tungsten shot like the kind loaded for non-toxic predator loads. Most TSS shot you see in waterfowl and turkey loads is under size #5, and safe. You can shoot #BBB and #T safely through an 1100 with modified choke or wider (it will pattern better, too).

You can shoot non-toxic bismuth of any size through any choke. However, be sure that it's not a bismuth/steel duplex load - in the mixed or blended loads, avoid shooting it through a full choke.

Occasionally you'll see brass shot. I think it's probably fine to shoot larger brass shot through a full choke, but I'm not sure.

People shoot large steel shot through full chokes frequently and think everything is fine because they haven't had a problem. But, no one who has split the end of their shotgun barrel shooting large steel shot has done so with a modified choke. It's kinda like shooting Bubba's super pissin' hot handloads in a gun - you might get away with it for awhile or you might not, but if you keep doing it eventually something WILL kaboom. If you have interchangeable chokes and if you're lucky you'll just stretch your choke tube threads until one day you shoot your choke tube out of the gun. This problem is exacerbated by high velocity large steel shot loads (1400fps and up).

Remember though - smaller steel shot (and TSS) is generally safe to shoot through full choke. It patterns like shit, but generally it's safe. And if you have a modified or improved cylinder choke, shoot whatever size steel shit you like.

Depends on what your choke is and how old it is.

From Remington:
>We do not recommend the use of steel shot through any barrel manufactured before 1963 or through any barrel having a fixed Full choke. If you have barrels, manufactured after 1963, with fixed Modified or Improved Cylinder chokes, you may shoot up to size #2 steel shot. The use of steel shot larger than size #2 is only recommended in modern barrels with the Rem Choke system.

>If you have the Rem Choke system, you may shoot any size steel through the Improved Cylinder and Modified choke tubes. The Full choke tube must state "For Steel or Lead" to be capable of handling steel shot.

So there you go.

Are you still crying about this?

The original comment:
>Why use a cut shell when you can buy slugs? Also use the cylinder choke so you don't fuck your gun.

This sure sounds like "Use slugs and also use a cylinder choke." In fact, these two anons:
>>65486813
>>65487205
...demonstrate that the only person who failed reading comprehension here was you.

If the original comment was:
>Why use a cut shell when you can buy slugs? But, if you do use a cut shell then use a cylinder choke so you don't fuck your gun."
...or...
>If you shoot cut shells use the cylinder choke so you don't fuck your gun. But why bother when you can just buy slugs?
...or even...
>Why use a cut shell when you can buy slugs? Anyway, use the cylinder choke so you don't fuck your gun.
...then your crybabying would make sense. But that's not what you said. Don't get pissy because you expect people to read your mind instead of the words you typed.

I eagerly await your continued bitching about this, by the way.

I have an old ithica sxs that belonged to my grandpa. The stock is cracked, and has a big chunk missing. I'd like to clean it up, maybe take saw about a foot off the barrel. Idk, I'll probably never do it, but is this a retarded idea? I have this weird fantasy about getting some brass shells and running my own black powder loads.

Regardless of that retard complaining with you, I appreciate the info and I checked with my manufacturer's chokes because of what you said about full chokes with steel etc. Thanks for the heads up and I'm probably going to get an over/under for skeet soon. If you're a retard. So let me spoon-feed you. He should use the choke to not fuck up the threads when firing anything at all. He should also use slugs instead of cut shells because cut shells suck ass. There, are you happy now you window-licking third-world retard?

I've never owned a shotgun. What's the caveat with the Maverick 88, it just looks like a 500 but cheaper. Why the hell would I buy a 500 unless I really, really didn't like the thought of a Mexican touching my gun
>>
>>65494219

It is 2026 CE, if you still think the 88s are made in Mexico you need to do some actual homework (and I don't mean reading shitposts on reddit or whatever bullshit the AI tells you).
>>
>>65494219
Maverick 88s are about as cheap as you can get while still turning a profit so try to think about how many corners are being cut. The obvious ones being a different safety and fixed magazine tube. They aren't drilled and tapped so you won't be getting any optic on there either.

Also, pot metal with the worst bluing imaginable (the 500s are no better)

>>
>>65495540
Shotguns are fun.
>>
>>65494675
Well I never knew my grandpa for one. It’s also my understanding that range and pattern of shot has more to do with shot cups than length.
Besides all that, the stock has that chunk missing, therefore the stock wiggles up and down a little. I mean it’s not pristine or anything. I’ll probably just keep occasionally oiling it up and continue to never shoot it. It’s a fun idea to cut it down to about 20” from the current 30” and fix the stock though.
>>
>>65495614
Hell yeah
>>
>>65495673
>. It’s also my understanding that range and pattern of shot has more to do with shot cups than length.
this is not true on doubles.
they are regulated at the front and the back to be parallel you cut the front 3-6 inches off a double now both barrels are pointing random directions. instead of being held together at the front and in the rear its only in the rear now.
if its a single barrel it doesnt matter if you cut off the choke in regards to accuracy and pattern.
if its a double the guns fucked.
