What's the best small gun for carrying? I currently carry a P365 but an even sick of its size and weight and often leave it at home. I was thinking a P-32 but that thing just looks cheap as fuck.

If you're getting annoyed at carrying a gun that's that small, it's probably a holster/belt issue, rather than a gun one. What holsters have you tried? What carry positions have you tried?

Since I do not reload, I can’t take it seriously. Any caliber that you cannot procure in large numbers easily is kind of moot, like buying something in .32 H&R magnum or .30 super carry because on paper and your mental gymnastics makes it the ultimate carry gun round. You now have a gun you can’t practice as regularly as a 9mm or a .380 even. Factory .38 Super is expensive and depending on the loading is basically 9 standard or 9mm +P. .38 Super +P can be loaded quite hot, nearing .357 magnum performance, and .38 Super Comp is even hotter while being dimensionally the same.

This all changes if you reload and have fancy progressive turret presses and can do hundreds of round an hour while drinking beer and watching nascar

There has always been .38 Super 2011s. It’s only a barrel swap from 9mm. .38 Super was the primary competition caliber since it could make Major power factor and the extra power ran huge compensators better. With the rebrand of STI into staccato and interest in 2011s as a normal gun instead of a purely race gun, 9x19mm has become the most popular caliber since its the most accessible. Why have a super expensive gun in a caliber you can’t shoot when you can have it in 9mm?

Kimber sells a .38 Super 2011 right now.

Bodyguard 2.0 is the current pocket carry meta. It shoots like a real gun while fitting into every pocket I've tried it in without printing. QVO makes a great holster for it with a claw that grabs your pocket material and pulls the holster free on draw. Whether you plan on carrying IWB or not get the clip, it breaks up the print just that extra bit better if you wear stuff like skinny jeans or tight shorts. Wouldn't be needed if you're a blue jeans and black graphic tee type of guy.

>>65442563
I really am loving my QVO IWB 509c holster man. The poppy of war pattern is neat and the holster does a great job. Planning on taking it hiking this sunday and see how it plays with that sort of physical activity, my ANR is a bit better than my Insane Kydex Creations holster for hiking, although that may just be the reality of a compact in a light bearing holster vs a full size in a nonlight bearing holster.
>>
For the competition guys, I'm looking at ordering a ANR Nidhog rig for mt OWB holster. Is any of this add on stuff necessary or should I just stick with a holster that clips onto my hanks belt I use for carry?

Well that's exciting. Does /hg/ have any recommendations for .38 special ammo, either for range training and carry? Standard pressure only since the gun's on the older side, I've heard wadcutters are pretty decent for carry.

If I'm trying to decide between two equally priced boxes of ammo I'll pick the smaller one so it packs easier. I just got these 50rd boxes of 9mm that are so small. I don't even care how it shoots this pleases me.
>>
>>65443125
148 grain standard load (so target load) wadcutters are great.
Accurate, low recoil and reliably penetrate through 4 layers of denim and 12-18 inches of ballistics gel. The flat tips absolutely rip and tear flesh compared to a FMJ, so they'll induce more bleeding than you'd think a non-expanding round would. An especially great choice for short barreled pistols that struggle to give hollowpoints the velocity necessary to expand reliably.
Some tests have shown they may have difficulty with targets dressed in VERY heavy winter clothing. This may or may not be a potential issue where you live.
Absolutely an extremely viable defense round when it's not arctic cold out.

I would get the bladetech mount if you're going to use it for competition and don't want or have a hanger system in mind. It will be simpler to put on and take off and the home pattern will work with most other mounting kits should you want to change it.

I started with a techlock owb mount then got a boss hanger because I wanted to adjust the cant and height and it all fit without issue.

The brass that I had been reloading since 2013 finally started cracking at the rims in 2022-23, then I continued reloading it until this year because you just crimp that shit down into the crimp groove on the bullet anyways. There's no harsh cycling motion to stretch the brass over time or mangle rims, the case isn't going to blow out from a rim crack, and it takes several more reloadings for that crack to go past where the brass is crimped.

NONE of the hollowpoint rounds, out of a 2 inch barrel, which your Liberty Chief has, both:
>expanded well all five times
>reliably penetrated significantly more than 12 inches through clear ballistics gel (which is easier to penetrate than FBI ballistics gel)
However, the 148 grain full wadcutters penetrated an average of 15.8 inches, with all five rounds clearing at least 14 inches.

/!\ BLOG ALERT /!\

For a while now, I’ve been having these first-round-of-a-magazine fliers, where the round I’d manually chamber would hit low, maybe an inch at 10 yards.
>>
File: asdf2.jpg (115 KB, 1024x769)
115 KB JPG
>>65443616
This has been mega annoying, especially during things like the challenges.

I tried everything to stop it, including chambering the round via slingshot, chambering using the slide lock, chambering from a fully loaded Barney mag, chambering from a Barney mag with only 1 in it, using new magazines, using old magazines, cleaning the magazine followers and feed lips, etc.

Nothing worked.
>>
>>65443616
This is normal phenomenon, it’s caused by hand racking the slide putting the slide + barrel in a slightly different location.
>>
File: asdf3.jpg (2.61 MB, 5712x4284)
2.61 MB JPG
>>65443617
I then thought that it might be a tired Recoil Spring Assembly, like the old RSA doesn’t quite have enough power to get the gun fully into battery perfectly by hand. My old RSA had about 7k rounds through it, and so even though it wasn’t giving me any malfunctions and still passed the RSA strength tests, I replaced it.

But after replacing the RSA, it was still happening, clearly (the top two groups are all manually chambered rounds, the middle group was all recoil-chambered rounds). The gun was still definitely hitting low when I’d manually chamber a round.
>>
oh fuck it maybe i should just get a glock
>>
File: asdf4.jpg (1.46 MB, 2797x2757)
1.46 MB JPG
>>65443621
I finally had the idea that maybe I should stop being a lazy fuck and clean my gun, because it had been several thousand rounds since it was last cleaned, and maybe the lockup surfaces were dirty. I cleaned a bunch of grime off the barrel hood, breech face, and feed ramp, and, lo and behold, the gun stopped hitting low from manual chambering!

I guess what I’ve learned is that having a seriously dirty gun can still affect your gun’s performance, even if it isn’t necessarily inducing reliability issues.

As always, thanks for reading my blog.

I have never experienced anything like this with a pistol. It's barely perceptible with a rifle even, a manual chambering might net a 0.5 MOA deviation

>>65443623
Gunk buildup at the shoulder of the chamber maybe? It doesn't make sense that buildup anywhere would affect manual chambering only, weird
>>
>>65443634
I hadn't ever experienced it either, at least not to that degree of predictability/deviation. I've heard of the first round in a mag being wonky and a little random, but never giving such a distinct point of impact shift that I could predict it. I was sick of using Kentucky windage every first round in a magazine, and so I wanted to get rid of the problem once and for all.

I did clean the shoulder of the barrel and the lockup surface of the slide, so that could have been it, but those two surfaces looked very well-mated together. They were worn in concert, and there wasn't really any unevenness to speak of. Who knows?

The only thing I don't like about single actions is that cartridges seem kind of prone to accidental/negligent discharge. But resting on an empty chamber doesn't change its functionality either.

What should I buy when I'm kind of just sick of everything? Seriously my interest level with this hobby is at an all time 15+ year low.

I don't like newer Glocks compared to the older gens, and pretty much every other polymer framed pistol besides maybe the M&Ps just look and feel like toys for competition larpers who think they're gonna be hot shit and then they realize that competition shooting and taking classes is an expensive ass hobby with a toxic culture of whores and influencers. Seriously every gun on the shelf at my LGS these days is basically just an optic ready pie of dogshit with light blue aluminum grips and gold cerakoted 2lb triggers with a magwell attachment the size of a bakery funnel.

On the other hand of the spectrum, the surplus market is dogshit and has been since like 2015, so there's really no cool old guns left to buy anymore, and anything you find on the used market is usually being sold by some "I know what I have sonny" faggot. To add insult to injury, the gun manufacturers who are known for making cool classic stuff have some of the absolute worst QC issues so you can't even buy a Python or a Government Model without likely getting a turd made by $18hr brownoid wage slaves.

Relatively retarded shooter here. I have a lot of experience with CZs. Got the 92x because I really wanted a frame safety beretta and the steel was just a bonus. I've been looking into the grips a lot lately because it just hasnt felt right in my hands.

Specifically, when the trigger is pulled all the way, there's a strain on my middle knuckle joint of my pointer finger. It's hard to explain but basically it feels like the trigger is physically too far back. I don't need a shorter distance if that comes at the cost of a shittier trigger. It's already fairly far forward vs my CZs and I don't want to alter that either. I have the backstrap grips on and the swell is great, but it doesnt extend high enough I don't think. Any advice on other grips? I know LOK and Hogue have some but LOK seems to be the only other one that does wraparounds. Already planning on a Langdon Tech Tips visit eventually so if whatever their general work covers would fix this as well lemme know. Thanks!
>picrel is my general grip, albeit the hand sorta angled to make it more clear. I dont wrap the finger around/through but try to keep it on the pad if possible, inb4 skinny faggot hands yeah i make no claims to being anything but a lanklet, the long middle fingernail is for tailoring/sewing/picking stitches

this is why vertec is gay. hogue makes some much thicker and higher swell grips for vertec frames. Specifically, there's a black wood one that's super thick, worst case scenario you can hit it with a dremel and refinish it to fit the safety
also why is the web of your thumb not choked up all the way into the beavertail? That's an insanely low grip
Try the volker straight trigger, it might give you slighly more reach at the back end of the single action versus the curved one

No you don't but it's weird how mad people are about reloaders. Me picking up my own trash should not bother you in the slightest. Me picking up your trash should bother you a little because deep down you know you should have picked it up yourself.

Also stomping on it does nothing. I can run some absolutely mangled cases through a sizing die and they come out fine. Worst case I'll just throw it out and not think twice about it.

I think the XC was hovering around 4500 2 weeks ago, now its 4300. If $200 was what was keeping you from buying a staccato xc you make some strange financial decisions.

Me personally? I'll be buying a kimber 2k11 pro comp in November.

They're 3D-printed grips I bought from a guy off R*ddit that are based off of Nambu M60 grips. Had to do some minor fitting for them to fit, so there's a little bit of wobble. Still need to test them at the range.

Before I was using a BK grip adapter on top of the stock grips. It helped with filling the hand more, but not enough for my tastes. I'd still recommend them though. If you want a holster, Detective Special holsters seem to fit the Liberty Chief pretty well.

Anons, I went by the pawn shop today. They marked down that 32-20 wfc Colt police positive from $399 to $299.
The finish was very worn. I came close to holding it, but thought “nah, I don’t need it.”
If I ever go back and it’s like $199 should I get it if it checks out?

The glass has better clarity/less tint than a regular RMR, and the automatic brightness adjustment is the best I’ve seen. The reticle is more crisp than a regular RMR, but the 65moa doughnut is useless, so I just use it in “single dot mode.” The larger window is great; however It’s a tad bulky, and the overhang can cause ejection issues with certain guns.

I really like the original RMR, and wish Trijicon would introduce a new version with some of the HD’s improvements. Though they do have a green dot model now, which has better glass than the classic red dot model. But the HD’s brightness adjustment is way better than the regular RMR (or anything else), so I wish they would add it to a more compact model.
