I love carbide dies so much I can just toss dirty ass range brass into my press and make ammo out of it
>>
According to Wikipedia, the standard French police .357 mag load

>was loaded with 161 gr (10.4 g) soft point bullets and manufactured by the SFM (Société française de munitions, based in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France)

How would I go about duplicating this?
>>
>>65488181
I don't clean my brass for my normal dies, I thought it was optional

this man is immune to stuck cases I kneel
>>
>>65488256
I just use Hornady case lube spray. Only ever got one stuck once and that had no lube, I was just doing a little test resize for some reason and it got pretty fucking stuck
>>
>>65488174
Could rant about how I received a Gew 88 front sling band (I'll Modify It) instead of the correct barrel bands for my 71/84 Parts Build, but I'm just going to be glad I got an original Ecuadorian Surp take off stock that isn't too terribly damaged nor terribly oversized like the movie takeoff that I overpaid for.
Anyway my parents were clearing out my grandparents estate and put a bold green letter PYREX 4 cup measuring cup and an abused but sandblastable Wagner Ware 1088 deep chicken frying skillet, at least I saved that from the Methheads in the area to deprive them of quality vintage cookware.
anyway Bertram brass is like 6$ a case but I have not the experience nor the tooling even in a cnc machine shot so that's Gay
>>
>>65488299
Just looked up that skillet, you done good keeping that in the family. Cast iron pans should be generational
>>
>>65488271
maybe I should switch to actual purpose made case lube instead of my destitute broke nigga lanolin rubbing oil
>>
>>65488332
Yeah I seen you mention that in the last thread. I'm a cheapskate and just give the cases sitting upright on their try a tiny spray at 45 degrees, rotate the tray 90 degrees and spray again at a 45 degree angle and it seems to work well and last for ages
>>
>>65488346
I wasn't in the last thread, must've been some other guy with similar woes

I saved a Griswold Number 11 Dutch oven With the Tite Top lid with the basting Ring Too (probably around (300$ Restored), I Ran away with the Good Pyrex Pie dishes even though I have an eye for Antiques and vintage valuables
Unfortunately, My grandmother was a Hoarder, and a saleswoman for avon, and an avid lover of anything as seen on TV. this of course Probably traumatized my mom and made her some sort of ardent MMinimalist even though she must have her ceramic snow village take up a (9x9) corner of our Dining room.

Grandpa's Guns, hunting gear, and Crossbow were Rabidy defended from others who hadn't been gifted by himself, My mom did shatter a vintage Bottle of Hoppes#9 I was hoping to save in her Cleaning conniption when she asked about the slowly disintegrating steel cabinet his coveralls Boots and blaze orange were in But my collection went up from probably 30 is to 40, and some deeply sentimental items are either stashed from my mom's Braindead Gen X Hotel core Wrath or Hidden away Properly.
RIP Big OAK chiseled Furniture from mid 00's

WHY THE FUCK HAS EVERYTHING HAVE TO BE SO STERILE AND REPLACEABLE FOR PROPERTY VALUE

It seems an extraordinary coincidence that some other anon is making his own case lube from lanolin

Absolutely, turning the abandoned 1931 Ford model A Pickup that my Grandfather's brother parked underneath a pine tree in the mid 70's after he brought it home from the UP or Canada and just gave me in trade for fixing up a boat trailer in his advanced age .
It, had been sitting since 1970, or at least long enough my mother remembered she had been in the bed with a keg of beer as a child heading to the baseball game in Glen Flora, WI. along with a few other stories, I kinda want to call it My albatross, I have at least a few thousand worth into sheet metal patches, drivetrain upgrades, brakes, axles, the rust and the dust and skinned knuckles
No wonder I'd Gladly spend A day Pinching wheel weights With Dykes to see how hard they were.

I think most other lubes will do the trick honestly
I use Lee and basically never clean cases except for the primer pocket or some big particles like sand

Use 158 grain cast load data and just sub a cast 160 grain pill.

Lanolin in alcohol works, if it doesn't you have bigger fucking problems than branded anal lube can fix.
It also leaves your hands Fairy-soft after a loading sesh.

>not wearing gloves
Am I being too wary of heavy metal and solvent chemicals leeching into my skin? But I dry tumble.

How much more worth it is it to wet tumble fellas?
>>
>>65490478
i have the larger franklin wet tumbler and i dont even bother with using the pins but they come out looking brand new save for the little bit of remaining carbon in the primer pockets and inside. pins get everything but getting them out while rinsing is just a pain for me. just make sure the container mouths are flat or youll leak bad

contender anon any progress on the 445 barrel?
>>
any BPfags in here?
should I be able to crumble the grains between my fingers or am I pucking the shit to way too low a density
doing the shit at 1.75 g/cm, but doing it dry instead of wet
maybe I oughta try it wet like youtube mechanic man says?

Pretty sure lube anon is in Germany.. as I understand it your limited on how much actual loaded ammo you can own at a time…. Which is a big part of why GRT was created…
>>
>>65490502
what do you do to get rid of wet tumbler water?
>>
>>65490949
for legal purposes in case my local water authority is watching i dont pour it down the drain. tho if youre conscious about that stuff i guess pour it in a large separated stock pot and boil it down to save space then store in a waste container to bring to your local heavy metal waste disposal
im not a chemist fag but if you want to process it yourself i guess make a vinegar and peroxide solution to dissolve the lead out of the waste water and then add in whatever metal is higher up on the reactivity chart (i think zinc) to then cement out the lead to filter out
>>
>>65490949
>>65490993
I leave it in a a paint can in the sun and let the water evaporate, leaving the crud. I dont know what im gonna do with the paint can, best guess is leave it on a rock in the desert? I dont know any toxic recycling in my area. The paint can is going to take decades to fill so im not too particular about how its going to get disposed. Its also clearly labeled "lead residue".

The cheap primed 7.62 brass Midsouth Shooters Supply is selling seemed nice, but I didn't realize how messy the extra sealant would be. It's cleaning up ok with my die cleaning spray, but it's definitely a new experience for me. It's what I get for going with the discount stuff, but this should all be useable.
>>
>>65492244
You can get some of the sealant yourself as I'm sure you know, but it's pretty tedious to do large batches that way
>>
>>65492287
I bought all of this purely for the price. It's military reject brass, from what I understand, because the stuff has excess sealant jizzed all over the primer and case mouth. Again, it's cleaning up, but it's messy.
>>
>>65492292
I mean if you aren't loading for accuracy or anything then hell ya. I've long since moved on from loading for the cost savings but you can get gobs for cheap that way
>>
The moment my case cleaner gets produced in the USA the lead will fully keep dissolved in Liquid. Trow in toilett and flushing gear and clean cases with water will fully remove it without having particles of solids absorbing into skin.
>>
>>65492335
lead chloride doesn't go in the toilet bro
are you really german or are you indian pretending to be german
>>
>>65492340
Stupid low amounts dont matter, you're not removing chemistry lab quantities in a toilett, just dirty water that contains some lead
>>
>>65492335
Bitchin'. Ought to sell well to the sonic cleaner crowd I reckon
>>
>>65492287
I hear a drop off clear nail polish works great for sealing primers, and leaving the projectile a little lubed helps seal that end.
Haven't tried it though.

What constitutes 'a little lead' in your mind, when you live in the land of recycled drinking water?
>>
>>65492310
It's for bulk target loads for now, but after one round of shooting with it I'm hoping I can put it in my ultrasonic to make them all squeaky clean. I may try doing finer, accurate loads with them after that.

Been shooting some 100gr American Eagle .327 through my SP101 and after cleaning the brass in preparation for reloading, I noticed all of the primers were flattened. Is that just normal for .327 because of how high pressure the cartridge is?
>>
>>65492995
That's getting up there, I don't reload for it but that's high for rifle
>>
>>65493014
Well I suppose it's a good thing I'm planning to mostly stick around "hot 32 H&R" loads for this.
>>
>>65492995
Yeah, that's really high, primer flow is bad and leads to piercing at the firing pin indent; those almost look pierced.
>>
>>65493076
Check on a chrono to see where you're at
>>
Fuck Winchester small rifle primers, these things pierce like crazy for no good reason. Shooting loads that don't produce any pressure signs with other primers will pop a Winchester.
>>
>>65493387
lots of sr primers are pretty much just pistol primers, on 223 you oughta just be using magnum primers by default

>Shoot my first .45 ACP reloads this past weekend.
>All shoot well, but a bunch of unburnt powder coated my forearm.
I loaded it with a low charge of HP-38. Would it burn more cleanly with a heavier charge?
>>
>>65493636
Generally yes. But don’t go crazy over book value unless you know what your doing.. higher charges being higher pressure and typically burn more powder off.. I’ve got a bunch of light loads in a few different calibers loaded on unique where it’s not uncommon to find unburnt flakes of it….
>>
>>65493636
100% yes
or a faster powder
pressure is what makes powder burn clean, the slower the powder the more chutzpah you'll need to load to to get a clean and consistent burn
>>
>>65492244
How bad is the crimp? Or I guess you're still loading them so you haven't had to fix the crimp yet.
>>
>>65492340
He's right in the sense that if you personally dump your lead waste in the drain it doesn't matter. If all households are dumping lead waste down the drain there will be a problem. It's up to you whether the firstie or thirdie mindset wins out.
>>
>>65493674
excuse me I run a vacuum filtration setup to safely contain and refine back into metal all of the burnt primer gasses from any target shooting
the cost is only about 400 dollars per round, but the environment comes first
>>
Any body ever had a case head separate? If so, damage report?
>>
>>65493689
Man I just hold my breath as I sift the dust off from dry tumbling…
>>
>>65493446
forgot to ask before but what dies are you using? regular 44mag dies set up for 445 or 445 specific dies?
>>
>>65493659
I've already fired them all off. I did not have any crimp on them. Again, this was just a hair over the minimum load and one of the first batches of .45 ACP reloads ever for me.
>>
>find free brass at public range
>finished cleaning, now sizing
>flattened primers galore
>case necks splitting in swager

I’ve heard a neck splitting can damage a chamber. Is that true?
>>

>>65494131
I had a bunch of Barnaul .223 that would split necks with some regularity. Good riddance, it wasn't even good ammo. But I haven't noticed any damage
>>
>>65494345
My understanding is that it's a big deal if you reload with a case with a split or weakened neck.
It's why annealing your brass with your magnetic heaters is all the rage now.
>>
>>65494643
I don't reuse mine more than two or three times
Annealing is probably for people who want to use theirs for ten loads each
>>
>>65494131
your gun will 100% blow up and kill you and you'll be erased from history
same as if you don't clean your brass to a mirror finish before unboxing your sizing die
it cannot bear witness to dirty brass
>>
>>65493763
I’m gonna give it a go with regular 44 mag dies. Depending on how it goes I might look at getting a .445 sizing die, but I don’t see any reason the belling, seat, and crimp dies won’t work….
>>
>>65493972
>>65494131
You can cut down .223 with split necks and make .300blk brass
>>
>>65494738
I've reloaded most of my brass 3 or more times, 30-06, 300wsm, 45-70, 303, 44 special, 300 black, the 44 mag about 6 times, and I've only cleaned it once.
>>
>>65495107
playing with fire, your chamber is doubtless now so worn that the headspace is at least 3/4 inch out of spec

I know it's not the ideal application, but would using 296 in a .45 Auto:
1. Work, as in cycle properly?
2. Be extra flashy? (Yes?)
I want to deliberately make flashy .45s for fun
>>
>>65500264
There's just not enough case room for 296 to be effective. Maybe in a rifle with a long barrel?
But if you're wanting that kind of power, which can be done, you need to upgrade your 45acp.
Barrel, springs, and a shock buffer in the least, plus special brass.
A norinco barrel is good enough (seriously it's one of the barrels rowland suggests for their 460 Roland upgrade), and shock buffs are easy to get, and wolf offers springs.
The cases on the other hand...
You need 45ACP+ cases AT LEAST to handle the pressures.
I have 308 cases that have been cut down and reamed and fire formed into 45ACP, known as the 45-08, that I plan on hot rodding when my hand is the only thing I have to lose.
>>
>>65500563
There's enough room, absolutely.
The problem is there's not enough pressure to burn 296 or H110 correctly.
If you were allowed 40kpsi and used heavy bullets, sure. Then it's not going to be much different than using it 357 Mag.

What about 35kpsi and 250-260gr bullets in a .45 Super?
In standard pressure .45 I've gotten 231 to flash a little, but I want fireballs.
>>
>>65500969

Power pistol might be worth looking at. 296 and h110 don’t like light pressure.. although I load 454 casull on h110 for my Alaskan (2.5 inch barrel) and it throws fireballs like no one’s business…. But that’s a very different case..
>>
File: 1746150851242.png (323 KB, 594x768)
323 KB PNG
>>65502344
>Power pistol
Slight flash with 45 Super, yes. More than Long Shot for sure.
Maybe I should work up 231 loads for Supers. I simulated Tightgroup for Supers and it burns way too fast. Autocomp +P load data per Sierra is at Super levels (Sierra CS is retarded, they disagree and then have load data for "revolver" .45 Auro which is at .460 levels...)
>>
>>65502457
I keep having to remind myself that 460 for you is Rowland… I’m used to thinking of 460 as xvr…. Wonder if you ran power pistol at 45 auto levels if you’d get more flash… burn efficiency goes up as pressure increases… weirdly 45 super is probably more efficient with the powder than 45 auto which would be at a lower pressure and burn amount out of the same length barrel..
>>
>>65488240
Well, IIRC the MR 73's claim to fame is being retardedly sturdy and taking loads that would have kept ol' Elmer Keith hard for a week. It's probably not very smart to do anything fancy unless stage 1 of the process is "obtain an MR 73 in very good condition".
It's going to be SP (i.e. jacketed) because it's loaded over 1400fps, which means they were going right to the line for CIP spec .357 with the BASIC load. Rolling your own is probably going to look something like pic attached.
>>
>>65500264
200gr and Blue Dot is what you want. 100% fill. Even the Joker isn't going to see the "95% burnt" line with that stuff.
Power Pistol will work but there's better things you can do with it.
>>
>>65502597
blue dot is kinda an oddball though
lots of people blow shit up using it, but there's a lot of bad .357 data out there for it so that might be a cause of outliers
dunno, I abandoned it for longshot after many years of using it
>>
>>65503490
You can't go far wrong with .45 ACP if you've got a modern (designed within living memory) gun and a supported chamber, I load "book" Supers in small primer brass all the time and while those cases can stay in the dirt after that shot they never show any bad signs, you really do have to do something very retarded to have problems. .357 is a prime candidate for people doing retarded things, right enough.
>>
>>65503490
Thinking on it's not really useful but Alcan shotgun powders used to throw some bitchin' fireballs in a pistol load. Huge flakes, complete bastard to meter.
