I think this might be the final configuration of my SAM5, room for a magnifier and possibly a laser on the left side are the only other things I might do. Hate to remove the read tang but have to admit an AR stock would probably go hard

So after about 2 years straight of consistently shooting only AKs as my main rifle I finally caved and bought a DD M4A1 and I have sadly come to the conclusion that it's just way better. In two range sessions I can already put shots on target faster and more accurately, and I can reload the damn thing a full like 1.5 seconds faster than I can my AKs. At this point I have decided to relegate all my AKs to range toy status which quite frankly is a bit of a relief since I have been trying to get one set up in a way that it can be my "SHTF go to" gun for a while and just havent found a configuration I really like. Not going to stop shooting my AKs but definitely going to put the majority of my training time into the M4. My two favorite AKs currently are my WBP Jack with literally nothing on it but a sling, and my M85 with only a red dot on it. Maybe if 7.62x39 was still 32cpr I would try and make AKs work as a go to gun but at this point everything about the AR platform is better and cheaper except the vibes. I think if I was going to suggest an AK for someone to try and kit out to be roughly AR equivalent it would be either the Galil or just get a WBP jack and a set of barwarus/zenitco furniture, had a pretty dogshit qc draco so I am hesitent to suggest the WASR at this point. Zastava m70/m90/m85 with SLR furniture I suppose could also be viable, but by the time you are done buying the gun and the furniture and the files and hammers youre gonna need to get it all fit you're looking at the price of a g$ AR.This really isnt an AK hate post, if anything I feel pretty good now because I can just get AKs to be range toys, like the PSA krink.

How are Midwest Industries side rail mounts at maintaining zero? It seems impractical if I have to resight in my optic every time I choose to clean my gun.
