Tempted to buy an A300 or 940 for my birthday.

The 1301 is a little outside of my price range and once I start thinking about spending ~$1500 on a shotgun I may as well just buy a Benelli instead.

Versatility; with my single shot shotgun, I can have a rifle (slugs), shotgun, muzzleloader (adapter), and carbine (9mm and 22lr adapter).

With just one shotgun you can have a fantastic hunting weapon and it's just a simple barrel swap away from being a fantastic home defense weapon.

Not him, but I just want ONE shotgun to do it all. And a Benelli M4 seems like the most durable for home defense and blasting shit in the desert. I always wanted to get into clays but I dont feel like dropping 2k on a silver pigeon
>>
>>65496558
many gun clubs and trap & skeet ranges will turn you away at the door for showing up with an M4, because they’re retarded boomers that should be put into work camps at gunpoint
>>
>>65496558
Benelli M4 is not the shotgun to do it all in the slightest, in fact it only does one thing well, blasting trash in the desert. You’d be better off with a Beretta semi. Shotguns with only 18 in barrels available for them are ass and a gimmick.

It also has 14" barrels available :^)

Jokes aside, that is a good point... why is there no long barrel available for the M4?

Correct
>>
>>65496686
Shotguns don’t really benefit from long barrels unless you’re doing something specific like sporting with a bead sight
An M4 is perfectly fine for sporting clays and trap/skeet, I do it all the time
>>
>>65496772
No clays or trap range I have been to would allow it, the minimum barrel length is 24in for most and the longest M4 barrel is 18in. Why they don’t make an extended sporting barrel is beyond me, my buddy has the opposite problem with his Browning Maxus 2, spare barrels are like 2/3 of the gun’s price and he would like a shorter barrel for field work in brush hunting doves, doesn’t exist. Nice shotgun, very soft shooting but I couldn’t recommend it for a non-hunter, overheats too quickly for range use.
>>
>>65496763

>>65496820
>No clays or trap range I have been to would allow it, the minimum barrel length is 24in for most and the longest M4 barrel is 18in
yeah this is a private gun club and they fudge the rules slightly for some people
I doubt it'd sell well enough to make it economical especially when 90% of the M4's features aren't really relevant to sporting and would cannibalize some of benelli's other shotguns' market share anyway

Most shotguns made after like 1900 use a stock bolt instead of tangs, but as long as you measure and make sure you cut it off past the head of the bolt you'll be fine. Yeah just keep scouring gun shops and pawn shops until you find a beat up old stevens or no-name hardware shotgun. Protip: dont use a 12ga they kick too much IMO. Honestly 28 gauge would be ideal if you dont care about ammo availability
>>
>>65497503

You can call it fuddy, but it's a legitimate sport with rules. Fucking FITASC even has a dress code along with barrel length and ammunition restrictions.
>>
>>65497450
Huh, all this talk about minimum barrel length made me look up the local rules.
The very serious club I'm a member of allows all shotguns that meet rules of the sports they practice.
There are lots of odd rules about the shotguns allowed, but funnily enough only one of the four nationally recognized clay shooting sports specifies a minimum barrel length, set at 66cm (26").

As far as I can tell, that means a gun like (pic rel) is 100% allowed for most forms of clay pigeon shooting over here.

Which means that someone who owns a shotgun explicitly licensed for sport shooting would be legally allowed to hacksaw the barrels down to like 10" (or less) without filing any paperwork of any kind.
Pretty fucking wild. I've never personally seen short-barreld shotguns used outside of dynamic "tactical" shooting sports over here.
But apparently it's super easy to get an SBS on a regular sporting license.
I need to dig deeper into this. If it really is this easy, I might just buy some shitty old double-barrel and cut it down to a coach gun, just as a range toy.

Those rules apply to any organization sanctioned event. Even if the governing boy has no rule, the club where the shoot is held might.

I've been shooting competitively at the national level since I was 12. I'm 34 now. I have seen people bring out camo'd ~20" barreled mossies to shoot trap a handful of times. Never stubby double barrels.

Autos only get a pass because of the longer receivers

which I don't disagree with in principle, but if I throw a choke on my 1301 tac, I will be able to do everything you want me to on a course perfectly fine and safely

I don't understand, is your argument essentially that because I can't make intermediate caliber rifle-range hits with birdshot, I can't use my 1301 tac to shoot trap and skeet in the 16-50 yard range?
I'm losing maybe 100ft/sec of muzzle velocity with 18 inches and no meaningful accuracy

or, in golf terms, because I can't hit a bryson dechambeau 430 yard bomb drive, I can't bring a shitty driver to the range to hit balls for the love of the game?
>>
>>65497819
Sure you can.

I used to shoot an 1100 and a girl on the university team shit trap with a camo mossy. But when you get to higher tiers of competition (with any sport) people use equipment that is tailor made to the sport.

I switched from the Gold Hunter because it was malfunctioning too much. In NSCA you get 2 gun/ammo malfunctions. After that, each other malfunction counts as a lost target.

>>
>>65497858
No you cant bozo. Thats the whole point of the retarded rules. And lots of ranges wont allow you to use a 18 inch shotgun even if its just you practicing at their range, they wont let you use the facility. And noise complaints cant possibly be it either when the range is in the middle of nowhere, not that 18 to 26 inches makes much difference in noise anyways. I had to buy a retarded boomer nigger cheap shotgun, inferior to my low recoiling reliable semi auto, just to take my kids to shoot clays. But I kinda get it. They dont want rednecks or inner city nigs/beaners with mossberg 88s there. I guess its a small price to pay to keep away grown men who wear sneakers and shorts

There's no evidence to suggest a 12 gauge does any more tissue damage than 5.56. Clint Smith boomerfuddery aside, 556 will also physically remove a chunk of flesh at the right distance with the right ammo, but also with nearly zero recoil and a 30 round magazine. And with some armor penetration. Even a 12 gauge slug can't pen 3a.

I shot my 870 from the hip yesterday, and the stock is basically shaped like a birdshead grip. It was extremely comfortable with 8 pellet buckshot, but accuracy was nowhere to be seen. I have trigeminal neuropathy, so getting a cheek weld on a 12 gauge is basically impossible for me. If people like Bob munden can be so accurate shooting pistols from the hip, surely a 12 gauge is doable with enough practice.

None of the ranges I've been to in New Jersey have really cared beyond a "you're probably not going to do too well with that, but have fun" when I would bring my 18" 870. There was one time where an official came over to check to make sure I was using target load because I had a visible fireball out the end of the barrel because we were shooting at dusk. Once he saw my ammo was fine and it was the barrel length he was cool.
Clays with a no choke 18in is kinda fun it turns into a game of reflexes more than the aim/form of normal trap shooting.

I love the thing just for the aesthetic and the family history. It's got the hammers on it too, so double cool. Not about to shoot it any time soon though. I've never dealt with a side-by-side before and there's a good deal of wiggle when the thing is locked. Maybe some day when I have the money I'll take it to get looked at. I'd love to get some old style brass/paper shells and go shooting with it.

I need a little more firepower than that, that's why I got the 12 gauge

>k-mart shotgun
Same here, I got a 3" wingmaster for like, 225 or something way the fuck back in the 90s from k-mart.
>>
>>65507515
I want one of these then I realize I've never seen 10 gauge for sale in any gun or sporting goods store I've ever been in even though I (albeit rarely) see 16 and 28 ga from time to time

This thing is Elmer fudd incarnate.

>>

It came with one box of ammo. I only take it out for turkey hunting so it will last a while. I don't recommend 10 gauge but I like the absurdity of it
>>
>>65508122
I'm actually building* a 10 gauge muzzleloader, so the only 10ga specific stuff I would need to buy is wads. I just wanted le xbox hueg big fuckoff long gun
*I haven't made any progress in over a year

>Shooting a drone divebombing you at 90 mph is just like shooting a clay pigeon

clay shooter here. sometimes at events a group will bring an R/C plane they call the "Gnat." it has little explosive cups on it that pop and smoke when hit. they dive it 25 yards from the shooting pads and we shoot. they clocked it at 100mph+. me, my brother, and a buddy destroyed the thing on the first pass of 5, all with O/Us

i believe it can be done.
>>
>>65508190
It absolutely can, there's footage from undertrained neverhunts nevershoots in eastern europe doing it under combat stress. The dude is just here to shit up the gen. Don't take him seriously
>>
>>65508190
Probably because you aren't in a war zone and you know it's coming. You Probably even know where it's coming from. In a shit ton of drone footage, nobody even sees it coming.

Trying to draw and I needed an 1887 ref pic, so I might as well bring out all my fudd guns.
I love them.

I need a big bore shotgun with a yard long barrel, one day hopefully.
>>
>>65508356
I'm sure it's doable, maybe even reliably doable, but probably not without an m4 or some such semi auto, with anti drone ammo, which i believe benelli has patented, along with a barrel that they claim increases velocity. What people here fail to realize is that you have to be ready to fire before you even fucking hear it coming, by then it's already within 150 yards. You're also shooting at something that will kill you if you miss, and 9/10 times, you're better off trying to dodge behind something. I wouldn't trust my anti-drone gunner with my life. I fly freestyle fpv drones, and you can't even hear some of my 4" prop drones until they're within 200 yards or so. Add all of the wartime confusion on top of that, the fact that your shotgunner may have his weapon slung on his back or something, and the fact that he knows missing = certain death, and that hiding is way safer and easier. It's easy for a fudd to say he can shoot a drone at the gun range when he knows exactly when and where it's coming from, and that he won't die if he misses. And also consider that probably most Ukrainians don't shoot skeet every weekend, and probably are not that good with a shotgun. The people here that claim they never miss are also the people claiming they shoot at an Olympic level.

Fair point

You'd have to always be ready and/or develop some early warning/sighting system.

Beads good enough. Even on tactical shotguns, but people get ghost ring sights because they look cool.

I know it’s a little Clint Smithy, but most people don’t walk away from solid buckshot or slug hits. And yes 5.56’of various flavors can be just as good or better. That’s why I have an SBR with 75 gr. Gold Dots and an M1 SBS next to the nightstand.

I only went to one range when I lived in NJ and my 870 at the time had a folding wire stock and they were big no on shooting from the hip. But the owner was a notorious crank.

Hoping that the Mossberg 990 SPX factory SBS comes choke compatible and is reliable both when fired from the shoulder and hip.

+1
Picture related. Other than maximizing kinetic energy on target, longer barrels really serve little to no purpose IMO.
